01:33this is detective tony godwin and his team is the predator hunters
01:42detective tony is on a case that stands out he's hunting a predator with a good job a family and

01:49house in the suburbs but this all-american dad is living a double life and what tony uncovers
01:57leaves him speechless i'm like at a loss for words this is like the absolute first time i've ever seen
02:04this he sends tony some of the most disturbing images he's ever seen first unit's out we need
02:11someone to get on the front of him all right guys and the deeper the team looks the darker it

02:24sometimes a case comes along that really hammers home just how destructive a predator's behavior
02:30can be take this guy jeffrey tough his actions leave his family in ruins
02:43this case takes place in 2010 chat rooms like yahoo chat were all the rage if you're a predator
02:50these are the places you want to hang out if you're a predator hunter it's an even better place to
02:54hang
02:56out catfishing is simply posing online in an undercover capacity with a fake identity the secret behind
03:02catfishing is to have a really good developed profile so this particular profile i'm a 14 year old
03:08girl and my name is alicia photographs used come from co-workers and they have given me permission to
03:15use their photographs for these types of investigations the only thing i require is that
03:19the photographs are actual photographs from 12 to 14 ish the ages that i'm purporting to be online
03:28when i enter the yahoo chat rooms i enter into a room called romance typically i go into rooms that
03:34are heavily populated i immediately get a private message from a user named jt hey alicia jay here i'm
03:40a 54 year old male from texas what about you hey i'm 14 year old female j replies back what
03:47you doing
03:47getting in trouble lol a normal guy who has no interest or preference in children would have
03:55never even messaged i got red flags waving all over the place with this guy
04:01within days he messages me back do you have a computer in your room or is it a public computer
04:10i'll bet your mom would not approve your chatting with an older guy
04:13really typical predator behavior what kind of seed is this guy planting in my head right he's trying
04:19to just keep this thing a secret all about manipulation of this kid
04:25i'm really concerned that he could be currently talking to other kids i'm really just going to play
04:31into the role of this 14 year old i just ask him what does jt stand for he responds back
04:38and says
04:38jeffrey's my first name but jay is my nickname jay doesn't have a picture in his profile
04:50he sends me three photos of himself he looks like the average middle-aged man
04:58when i've been talking to jay for a little over three weeks and he sends me this message
05:02i've collected some fun things for you to see lol
05:08you have to save it to your desktop and then delete it afterwards okay
05:13now i'm really curious now i'm thinking what the heck is this guy gonna send me
05:23what he sends are three very sexually explicit photographs i'm looking at the faces of the girls
05:30in these photos and what's happened is he has superimposed my alicia girl profile onto these
05:37images to make it look like alicia is engaged in these sex acts and i'm like at a loss for
05:45words this
05:45is like the absolute first time i've ever seen this jeffrey is trying to just totally desensitize
05:51me playing this profile to the thought and idea of having sex with someone like him
05:59this guy is revealing his absolute true colors what a predator he is plain and simple
06:05what he just did is a felony in texas
06:10tony needs a positive id to move forwards he calls in detective clint mcnear
06:17tony and i started the academy together about 30 years ago spent our whole career together raised
06:24our kids together he's been a brother i've never had for the last 31 years this is the subpoena that
06:32was sent to yahoo trying to identify jt and what we get in return is whatever blanket information
06:40in this case yahoo has on that person the results aren't great not a lot of useful information in
06:46there we get an ip address and we get a location that he is in austin however the name on
06:52the subpoena
06:53came back as mr jt for all we know that's a made-up screen name they may have been using
07:00we know where he is but we're no closer to finding out who he is
07:07knowing how these cases lay out in court i know i have the elements but what i really need is
07:11for
07:12him to set up a meeting in person then he pops this question on me what's your schedule like on
07:17thursday
07:22okay i'll be driving through dallas on thursday
07:26bam we got this this guy wants to meet in person we're confident in where he's wanting to go with
07:34this communication he's having with alicia he sent pornographic images he's sharing about
07:40his sexual fantasies with all that has taken place so far clearly uh he intends to harm a child
07:46we need to bring the guy in
07:53i decide i'm going to push one of my favorite takedown locations it's kind of a u-shaped driveway
07:58which gives us the tactical advantage it's one way in and one way out there's a lot of team members
08:04and i have to place them strategically from an outer perimeter to an inner perimeter so that when
08:09the target jeffrey arrives we know that ahead of time we see him at a time and then it gets
08:15passed
08:15off to clint sitting close by yeah you staged me just outside so no matter which angle he approached
08:22from he was going to have to drive right in front of me and then i could pull out and
08:26trail him right
08:27inside the reason we want to be able to control it is that he doesn't get out and harm the
08:32public or if
08:33they see another child to harm them or it turns into a car chase so this is the best ability
08:39for
08:39us to control a very dangerous situation just days before the takedown jeffrey starts to back off
08:50i really think the gravity of what's going on is kind of setting in with him and it's kind of
08:54weighing
08:54on his shoulders because he says i'm a little nervous and i respond back me too i'm really nervous
09:02so then jeffrey hits me with this i could land in jail i have visions of the police scooping me

09:08as i walk out what they're doing is obviously a crime they know that they're coming to meet a child
09:16and so they get cold feet i try to reassure him at the end of the day i've still got

09:25we're about to put our hands on him now i just need him to show up
09:34so april 22nd at 9 30 a.m i text him and i let him know what the address is
09:41of where he's coming
09:42this guy potentially could be armed my number one priority is that nobody gets hurt i'm setting up
09:48on surveillance waiting for a traveler to come in he's identified himself as jay or jeffrey if it
09:55goes accordingly he will pull in on the east side of the complex which is this location that i have
10:00on
10:00video you're sitting out there then you start thinking okay this guy's not going to show up
10:05is this going to really go down or are they they're going to get nervous and bail i'm getting a

10:09message right now said he's caught in some construction taking a little longer than expected
10:14we don't know if he's gaming tony we don't know if he already may be there doing a heat run

10:20looking for us i just received this a few minutes ago this is just all okay about 45 minutes outside

10:25dallas and walks a hatching i responded back okay i'm getting excited and he sent back me too
10:34all i want to hear is one of my spotters say i have eyes on him 11 18 a.m
10:39i just received a text
10:41from the suspect who said he is 10 minutes away
10:47tony's team is ready to take down a child predator in a north dallas apartment complex i'm setting up
10:54on surveillance waiting for a traveler to come in he's identified himself as jay or jeffrey these
11:00operations take a huge amount of resources because i have to have covert vehicles covert detectives
11:05uniformed people there's a lot of moving parts and a lot of risk that is involved he's in front complex
11:14right now stand by i got a visual on him this is him
11:24he's parking come in come in come in first unit's out we need someone to get on the front of

11:36they do a textbook takedown they approach jeffrey they've got him he does comply here's our suspect
11:47when the police are running up banging on the window i think it's just an overwhelming surprise
11:53these people are so focused on this fantasy that they think is going to play out when we click the
11:59cuffs on is really satisfaction today this person won't harm a child
12:11they search him and his car the team finds a webcam a digital camera a laptop and a bottle of
12:21lubricant
12:21so i'm not shocked but i wasn't anticipating finding that at all they recover his driver's license
12:29which identifies him as jeffrey blaze toff i do a search on him and determine that jeffrey is married
12:38with two children toff is transported to the police station where he's booked in for online solicitation of
12:52a minor what most people don't understand is there's an interview and there's an interrogation
13:01and during an interview is when i'm just building rapport but once i feel like i'm in that zone is
13:07when i will trigger and switch over to an interrogation i want to ask you jeff why are you here
13:13today
13:14i am here today um because i agreed to meet a girl um who on the internet claims she was
13:24okay he opens up and makes admissions jeffrey has no idea that i played the role of alicia
13:35i want them to believe the entire time this was a real child i do that because i want to
13:42have success
13:43in the interview i want them to be very very transparent and open with me and oftentimes
13:47when these predators believe that it's a real child it puts them in a different mindset how long ago did
13:55you meet this girl how did it get from a couple months ago meeting to where you are here today
14:08well i started with your doubts i made the mistake of inviting me to lunch but you were arrested at
14:14her
14:14apartment complex that is correct because she wanted me to go there i don't necessarily believe you is that
14:22your purpose for coming and going to the apartment complex was not to have a sexual relationship
14:27because i do believe that was the case you kind of see a little deflection in his demeanor he's like
14:33i know i know like the head nod the acknowledgement that yeah i really screwed up he also understands he
14:40is in deep trouble yeah i pretty much up my life is the way i look at it well i
14:47would have to agree with
14:48you there yeah i'm probably gonna get i'll probably lose my job i would definitely lose my wife
14:56officers take talk to jail after his interview with tony taut then calls home please continue to hold
15:05while the operator attempts to connect your call hello i'm in jail i have been charged with
15:13online solicitation of a minor they're going to have a search warrant for the house
15:19so i will search the house and they will find things okay i am so sorry
15:27i don't yeah there's nothing i can tell you honey i'm an idiot and i could be in prison for
15:34life as far as i
15:41know i have a problem when i hear the call i feel so much empathy for his wife because her
16:03world
16:03literally just shattered and so it's a bittersweet moment i'm super grateful that he's never going
16:10to have an opportunity to harm another kid but i know it comes at a price for someone else the
16:16next
16:16day a team from austin pd searches jeffrey toss home it seizes over 150 000 images of child sexual abuse
16:25material the size of this collection is unbelievably large it's unfathomable that somebody would have
16:36this much every one of those are real victims somewhere this guy had everything going in his
16:44life like he had wealth and a family and he threw it all the way
16:59it's 2012. tony is tracking a man who used facebook to target an underage girl
17:09to catch him tony must take over the identity of a real child
17:16and switch takedown locations when the predator throws a curveball
17:22okay i got eyes on him
17:26when tony finally sets the trap the predator walks right into it every once in a while we get notified
17:34that there's a predator that has contact with the child right now that's what the scenario was with
17:40this guy andrew mckee my team and i we had to act really fast on a developing situation
17:55april 23rd of 2012 i got a phone call from one of our school resource officers this guy's job is
18:01to
18:01keep middle school students safe so the sro tells me that a 14 year old student had come to him
18:06at the
18:07school and told him she got some really unsolicited messages on her phone
18:14so the messages were really sexual in nature really troubling to this kid while she came to
18:19the school to report it there's a real sense of urgency because i'm a father and i have daughters
18:24i tend to put that victim in the sense of being my own child if something like this happened to
18:31my
18:31daughter i'm going to flip the world upside down to make it get right
18:38tony is tracking a predator who used facebook to target an underage girl
18:43the question really is why is this adult reaching out to a kid who he doesn't know
18:48on any level whatsoever so i tasked one of my teammates david galvan to start this investigation
18:56this is a file on the victim so tony we met in the academy in 1994 and he's a great
19:03cop
19:03he's one of those guys that you could depend on on the street definitely one of the best in his
19:08field
19:10when it comes to the sexual abuse any type of abuse of a child
19:13takes a toll on you because you carry the weight of the children in your heart and what has happened
19:19to them
19:22i go to the school and i do talk with the young girl she's just taught about it she feels
19:27like
19:27of course like she's done something wrong uh like she's in trouble for this when actually she's the victim
19:35so what she tells us is that 10 days earlier she got an unsolicited friend request from this guy
19:40named andrew mckee which she did accept and then he immediately sends her a message says hey how are
19:45you but she ignored this online kids will friend everybody whether they know them or not and they're
19:53divulging information that shouldn't be divulged about themselves where they live phone numbers and
19:59things like where they go to school it's a very dangerous place mistakes will be made this child
20:04happened to have a lot of information on her facebook page one of which was her phone number
20:08so a week later the student's in class and she gets this message from her phone that says this
20:13is andrew from facebook so what girl do you know that will want a hundred dollar
20:19he sends a third message to her and this time he sends a picture and this is a picture of
20:25a man and
20:25woman's genitals that are touching so now this student like she's totally confused he's offering her a
20:31hundred dollars to go find another girl to have sex how disgusting is this guy so when you have
20:38somebody that uh is that up front about things like that especially when it comes to money and other
20:42other children it's very concerning we need to do something quickly we need to figure out who this
20:49person actually is to get more information on them more intelligence on that person
20:56i have to figure out if this is a real guy or this is a fake profile so i do
21:01some database searches
21:03on andrew mckee i get some dmv information from oklahoma and included in that is a driver's license
21:10photo and that photo matches up a hundred percent to the photo that was used on the facebook profile
21:21we've got to find him and i've got an idea the victim in this case along with her parents gives
21:27me
21:27permission to do a takeover of this facebook account to become that child use her phone use her accounts
21:36and target mr mckee it's a really dangerous area to operate in but i don't have any other alternatives
21:43at this point i send a text message to mckee i just play along with him at this point
21:54so i give him some details of the girl i've allegedly found
22:00so britney is me right i'm playing now my undercover role and so i give mckee
22:06the phone number i use on my undercover phone so that we can keep things going
22:13and he replies back immediately your friend gave me your number how old are you so i just confirm
22:19with him well i'm 14 is that cool he tells me yeah i'm cool with that this guy is a
22:26big problem and
22:28he could really harm a real kid
22:35so on april 24th i text mckee as britney and we talk for hours and it gets really pornographic i
22:43mean
22:43some nasty stuff starts happening the majority of the things that he sent were so highly sexually graphic
22:50and disgusting that we're not able to show that type of material we're not willing to expose other
22:56people to his depravity he's a sick guy in order to make this case a more solid case in court
23:05he has to
23:07offer up or make a substantial step for a meeting in person for a sex act eventually mckee does suggest
23:14a meeting in person and we are on so i give mckee an address to the apartment complex where britney
23:21lives
23:22i'm going to use that to lure him in
23:31mckee says he's traveling on the train and he wants britney to meet at the station the idea that we
23:35could
23:35do a takedown at a public train station is not something that would get even approved up my chain
23:40there's too many people innocent bodies they have no idea what's going on we have no real control
23:45tactically so as britney i just asked him to stick to the plan just come to the apartments like he
23:51suggested so i post two people at the train station both are covert their job is just to blend into
23:59the
23:59crowd and wait until they get a visual on mckee and notify us on the radio that he's arrived
24:09so that's what's going on tony lies in wait for andrew mckee the predator thinks he's about to meet a

24:16year old girl april 26 2012 the current time is 10 0 6 a.m this is detective god we
24:24are set up to meet a
24:26traveler in a online solicitation of a minor case the suspect we are looking for is identified in this
24:34photograph his name is andrew dale mckee he's a 35 year old male at 10 16 a.m my covert
24:43officers at the
24:44station tell me that mckee has arrived but mckee is lost tony steps in to keep the takedown on track
24:57so i come up with a plan to shift everything by over a half a mile
25:04i send him a message to say hey there's a store about halfway between you and me i'll meet you
25:07there the fact that we have to move from plan a to plan b it elevates the risk level because
25:16the traffic concerns the public safety concerns logistically it's a nightmare for me
25:26we have changed the takedown location to the s and k
25:30food store next door to this tire shop we do have undercover officers inside this location right now
25:40is that him at travis
25:43the first thing that was coming up sounds not him
25:46i thought man i i lost this dude and all of a sudden i get this message back
25:52coming up travis right this second
25:56okay i got eyes on him
25:59i'm expecting mckee to sort of bolt in a direction it's not like he's not going to see these cars
26:05and squad cars screeching up on him
26:10so i give the team the order to take him down 10 55
26:18this is the arrest of mr mckee who arrived to have sex with what he believes to be as a
26:2614-year-old child
26:44i realized he suffers from a hearing loss a very significant hearing loss
26:49why do you think you're here today the only thing i think that is i've been talking to this girl
26:59which i didn't think none of she was under eight but that's not really the case here because the
27:06girl you met on facebook told you she was 14. or that one uh 10 or 14 times
27:13mckee says he's been talking to a girl but she didn't really let him know how old she was
27:17i need him to know i know everything about this case now i'm going to give it to him
27:22so if the first girl is 14 and you know that then you have to assume the girl she goes
27:27to school
27:27when you're 14. i don't think about that either yeah but you really said some pretty horrible things
27:34to this girl right and you know she's 14 and that's against the law yeah you know that you're
27:39you're smart enough to know that you offered to pay the first girl from facebook a hundred dollars
27:44to have sex with her well i didn't i just i just said that but no no really because i
27:51ain't got
27:51the money and wanting me to believe that if the police never were involved today that you wouldn't
27:58have gone to her apartment i think if we wouldn't have been involved you would have taken that
28:03old girl back to her apartment and had sex with her andrew you did a grown-up thing here you're

28:10have to man up and talk about it man yep dude you don't even have any tears in your eyes

28:50media platforms to protect their kids parents need to police their kids privacy settings themselves
28:55kids really shouldn't have their full names their direct cell phone number or anything about their
29:00address on their social media to lure the next predator tony uses one of his officers as a decory
29:09that's when the the nerves kicked in this case is about grooming control and the long game
29:22but when this predator lands in custody he denies everything i don't understand man you know he
29:28contacted me you know i depend on my co-workers to help me bring predators to justice that was the
29:36case
29:36with this predator marty taylor i had to think outside the box to catch this guy
29:47this case took place on the website back page back page was a unique place you can buy and sell
29:55you
29:55can apply for jobs find a house of rent but there's a really deviant side to back page in the
30:00personal
30:00ads and that's where we tend to focus our attention because that's where we see predatory behavior
30:06i navigate over to the back page dallas area for men seeking men what i'm looking for is those ads
30:14that appear to be a little ambiguous looking potentially for kids versus a consenting adult
30:21i've only been on the site for just a couple of minutes and sugar dad looking for his son really
30:26catches my attention looking for a younger guy for companionship you must be 18 to 30 ish
30:33he wants love in return he's offering up a nice place three meals a day this ad in my experience
30:40tells me that this is someone who's got some wiggle room and what they're looking for meaning
30:45most likely younger knowing they can't put that onto that ad without getting it flagged or removed
30:52this is a predator that's looking for a kid
30:58tony devises a plan to lure in the back page sugar daddy
31:04he creates a profile for a 14 year old boy named brian
31:09the email address i set up is brian boy curious and i'm painting the picture that he is curious
31:15about where he is in his sexuality i reply to the ad on 14. i'll be 15 in november any
31:22adult that saw a
31:23response like this would know immediately hold up this is a kid this is illegal and they would walk
31:28away i get a reply and it says no i'm not okay with it you can be absolutely gorgeous but
31:36it isn't
31:36worth jail to be with a hot young stud sorry i'm marty by the way on one side of this
31:42he's acknowledging
31:43i know this is wrong i know this is illegal i could go to jail but on the flip side
31:48of it he's very
31:49interested when you see the messages from these predatory types they know it's wrong and they
31:55know they have to be very cryptic in what they say marty brings up that he wants to transition from
32:01email over to text messaging and that is absolutely a home run for me and now i've got his phone
32:08number
32:08he fully believes i'm a 14 year old boy and we go from there
32:16as soon as we start texting marty sends me a picture of himself and knowing what marty looks
32:21like or is purporting to look like is a big advantage for me the flip side to getting a picture
32:25from marty is that within a few hours he wants to know what brian looks like and he needs validation
32:31that this is a real kid tony enlists officer bobby taylor to bring the character of brian to life
32:39i first met tony in the academy he came to teach us about the internet crimes against children unit
32:46during that time is when he asked if any of us would be willing to work with him once we
32:52finished
32:53training i was 23 i still looked pretty closely to what i did in high school and so i took
33:00him some of
33:00my pictures uh from when i was a kid so the profile picture that i send him of brian which
33:07is actually
33:07bobby at that age is a really big hit with marty right off the bat he escalates things
33:19marty's tone and what he's saying is his way of trying to normalize the deviance that he wants
33:25to interject and that's just another example of the grooming process and his power and control
33:33tember 17th of 2014 marty sends me a message he says to me we'll only do what you feel up
33:39to
33:39i don't think kissing is illegal we can go back to my place and kiss and talk
33:44he wants to come across like it's innocent but it doesn't really emphasize what he's really wanting
33:49to do and how wildly inappropriate something like that would be between a guy in his 50s and a 14
33:54year old
33:55kid marty's really clear in the messages about meeting to make sure that i don't tell any adults
34:01your mom will never find out about me but he's still nervous and he messages me okay i have to
34:07ask this to protect myself you're not a cop and you don't work for the police right because i'm not
34:13a cop
34:14and i don't work for them i just reassure him
34:19i mean this is really classic predator behavior right this guy is scared obviously he's having
34:25some very rational thoughts but that doesn't deter him
34:32so i need to get marty identified i kick off legal process to the cell provider and while i'm waiting
34:38for that to happen marty messages me just after six o'clock the next morning good morning my boy i
34:45hope
34:45you slept well i thought about you a lot last night and this morning when i woke up and just
34:49really
34:50out of nowhere he sends me a picture of his white chevy silverado there's this gotcha moment because
34:55his license plates in the actual photo i run this plate through the dmv and i come back with a
35:00full
35:00name jack marty taylor 59 year old male from dallas texas so taylor's not married he has no criminal
35:06history i can find and he has no access to kids that i can find in order for this case
35:12to move forward
35:13in me to put a charge on to taylor i need a couple of things to happen one i need
35:18him to set up a
35:19specific date and time for when this meeting will happen and then two i need him to show what his
35:25intentions are does he want to have a sexual relationship with this child and if so it's game on
35:33it takes about three months but eventually marty gives me exactly what we're looking for
35:40marty's message reveals his true intentions towards brian
35:48this guy's a real danger to minors i need to lock in a date for him to meet so i
35:53can arrest him
35:54and charge him and eventually get him convicted and put in prison
36:02tony prepares to take down predator marty taylor using a fellow police officer as bait
36:09the use of a live decoy is not such a hurdle to get over because the person that we're using
36:15is a police officer the biggest threat to that is if our bad guy shows up and kind of realizes
36:20wait a
36:20minute that's not a real kid marty needs validation that what he believes in his mind right now which
36:27is he's got the pot of gold which is why i asked bobby to help me in this case
36:35tony tells me he needs me to decoy and he's going to need me to dress up as a kid
36:40because this this guy is very eager but very cautious
36:47this is the spot where i tell marty to come over and meet brian my intention is to put him
36:52right
36:52out in the middle of this field you wanted me on this side of the field uh so there was
36:58distance
36:58between us where you thought he was going to park the advantage of having marty meet brian over here is
37:03is a bunch of things the drive to come in just a one way in and one way out we
37:08have good coverage
37:09for surveillance units if marty starts to freak out he has nowhere to go the moment you said hey
37:15he's in route that's when the the nerves kicked in right and all i could think of was i'm the
37:22most
37:22junior guy in this operation i can't mess this up marty's pickup pulls in at 4 15 pm
37:38marty starts flashing his lights at me to let me know it's him and i remember freezing
37:44tony tells me pretend you're texting as i'm walking towards him i get about halfway and at that point
37:50as i see red and blue lights i take off running and i hide so i give the team the

37:56down two squad cars race across the parking lot to block marty's escape
38:11i think he's in a degree of shock at that moment because of everything that's happened the culmination
38:18of this the gravity of this now he's in handcuffs he's been back in the squad car
38:23and so his mind is racing a million miles an hour i don't understand man you know he contacted me

38:31he said he needed somebody as a mentor as a father figure all they got to do is look back
38:37on my cell
38:37phone conversation with him and and i told him all he was going to do is just talk and go

38:45when marty gets into custody he's sort of pleading his innocence and that he's a nice guy just trying
38:52to help nothing's happened the reality is he knows full well what he was doing when this
