Venezuela and EU set out roadmap for renewed ties amid political thaw

00:00The European Union and Venezuela have taken steps to re-establish their political relations
00:05as they hold a high-level meeting in Caracas, where both parties agreed on a working agenda
00:10aimed at mutual cooperation.
00:13The meeting was headed by the President of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez,
00:18and set in the Federal Legislative Palace.
00:21On the European side, Deputy Director General for the Americas of the EU's External Action
00:27Service, Pelayo Castro-Zuzu-Aregui, chaired the delegation, and was joined by the bloc's
00:32chargé d'affaires in Venezuela, Maria Puerta.
00:36The meeting comes in addition to other talks held this week with Venezuela's interim president,
00:41Delce Rodriguez, aimed at restoring cordial ties.
00:45Earlier this week, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank announced that they
00:49were resuming their ties with Caracas, suspended since 2019 due to government recognition issues.
00:55President Rodriguez described the move as very important for her country's economy and thanked
01:01all countries and institutions for their rapprochement efforts.
