00:00Did you know that it's physically impossible to cross from North America to South America by road?
00:05It's all because of this piece of land, the Darien Gap, one of the most dangerous places on the planet,
00:10that breaks even the longest road in the world, and an attempt to cross this section can be deadly.
00:16But what's the reason behind it?
00:18The thing is, there are about 160 kilometers of dense tropical forests, swamps, and mountains,
00:24located on the border of Panama and Colombia.
00:26The difficult terrain, humid climate, and constant rains make building a road almost impossible and extremely expensive.
00:34That's why the Pan American Highway Project failed in this section.
00:37The Darien Gap is the only land route for migrants who, in search of a better life, try to cross
00:43these impassable jungles.
00:44But not all of them reach their destination.
00:47The danger is not only due to the difficult terrain and wildlife,
00:50but also because the lack of government control makes it home to a large number of criminals, smugglers, and armed
00:56gangs,
00:57significantly increasing the risk of kidnapping.
