00:06:28Jordan got a platinum ticket.

00:07:5530.
00:07:56We only get one platinum ticket to give away.
00:07:59So let's see if we all agree.
00:08:04I don't know how I'm going to vote like everyone's.
00:08:07Me either.
00:08:08One person going home from this group, let alone ten people, is just like...
00:08:11And it's heartbreaking.
00:08:12It's going to raise my heart on my chest.
00:08:17We have Mary Jo and Chloe duking it out.
00:08:21Who wants to go first?
00:08:23Hollywood week, I had to do singles.
00:08:25That was hard for me.
00:08:27Oh, you did so good.
00:08:28Chloe, you're in our top 30.
00:08:31What?
00:08:31You're in our top 30!
00:08:3330!
00:08:33I feel pressure for this cut because I can't stop here.
00:08:37I've already made it to this point.
00:08:41Hey, buddy.
00:08:42Hey.
00:08:43Good night, Mama.
00:08:44I miss you.
00:08:45When I think about Ohana, I think about Kifton.
00:08:49And when I get home, we're going to play with all your trucks.
00:08:52Yeah.
00:08:52I miss him.
00:08:53I just miss him.
00:08:54I wish he could be here to see all of this.
00:08:58I don't know.
00:09:01Good night!
00:09:04Today I'm going to sing Hello by Adele.
00:09:08I'm dedicating this to my son.

00:09:25Hello.
00:09:26Hello.
00:09:28It's me.
00:09:30I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to me, to go over everything.
00:09:43I think I've forgotten how we felt before the world fell at our feet.
00:09:51There's such a difference between us and a million miles.
00:10:03Hello from me, hello from me.
00:10:08Keep going, keep going.
00:10:12Come on, come on, come on, come on, keep going.
00:10:13She's got to start controlling her emotions.
00:10:20I'm dedicating this to my son.
00:10:23And a million miles.
00:10:30Hello from me, hello from me.
00:10:35Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
00:10:38Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
00:10:39Yes, I can say that I tried to tell you who I'm sorry for breaking your heart.
00:10:49But it don't matter really.
00:10:52Clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore.
00:11:02Anymore.
00:11:05Yeah.
00:11:06You're all right.
00:11:08You're all right.
00:11:11You're all right.
00:11:12You're all right.
00:11:12You're here because we love your voice.
00:11:15It is not about the little things that can go wrong during the performance.
00:11:20It really is how you shove it aside and finish strong.
00:11:25That's it.
00:11:26Because you got back on that horse and took off real quick.
00:11:29There you go.
00:11:29Way to finish strong.
00:11:35I think I just got lost in myself a little bit.
00:11:38You were so good.
00:11:40Baby, congratulations.
00:11:42Baby, you did that comeback, honey.
00:11:45I'm so glad I got to meet y'all.
00:11:46You should be proud of yourself.
00:11:48Yes.
00:11:48You should be proud of yourself.
00:11:49Here we go.

00:12:09My parents are here tonight.
00:12:11And they're who really built me.
00:12:14This one goes out to my family.
00:12:21You know they say you can't go home again.
00:12:28Oh, I just had to come back one last time.
00:12:33Ma'am, I know you don't know me for matter.
00:12:39But these handprints on the front steps are mine.
00:12:45I thought if I could touch this place, oh, I'm feeling it.
00:12:51This brokenness inside me might start healing.
00:12:57You leave home and you move on and you do the best you can.
00:13:02Yeah, yeah.
00:13:03I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am.
00:13:14I thought if I could touch this place, oh, I feel it.
00:13:21This brokenness inside me might start healing.
00:13:26Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:13:27I can't hear it till I come to someone else.
00:13:30I thought that maybe I could find myself.
00:13:38If I could just come in, I swear I'll leave.
00:13:43Won't sing nothing but a memory from the house that built me.
00:13:56Won't sing nothing but a memory from the house that built me.
00:14:02Oh, my God.
00:14:09Thank you for touching the end.
00:14:09Now that was something.
00:14:12That's a true vocalist.
00:14:13I mean, you're so in control of your instrument.
00:14:17It's kind of mind-blowing.
00:14:19Thank you very much.
00:14:19And you have a really beautiful, just soft, sweet spot in your voice
00:14:25that I feel like just draws everybody in.
00:14:28So I would love to hear more of that.
00:14:31Yes, ma'am.
00:14:32There you go.
00:14:33That was amazing.
00:14:34Amazing.
00:14:37That song is just, it's such a sweet song.
00:14:40And it means so much.
00:14:41And yeah, it was, it was beautiful.
00:14:45Just knowing that his parents are here, hearing it.
00:14:48This is really special.
00:14:50I know.
00:14:50I can't.
00:14:52All right, folks.
00:14:52Here we go.
00:14:53Take your lockups, please.
00:14:54Stand by.
00:14:57What's up, guys?
00:14:58My name is Keilah Richardson.
00:15:00I'm singing A Thousand Years by Christina Perri,
00:15:03dedicating it to my lovely son.
00:15:05I want to let him know no matter how grown he gets,
00:15:08I'm going to love him forever.
00:15:09And every day we're getting one step closer to where we want to be.
00:15:20Heart beats fast, colors and promises.
00:15:28All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow.
00:15:36One step closer
00:15:43I am dying everyday waiting for you
00:15:48Darling don't be afraid
00:15:51I am loving you for a thousand years
00:15:56Sing it then
00:15:57I love you for a thousand more
00:16:06One step closer
00:16:13I have died everyday waiting for you
00:16:18Darling don't be afraid
00:16:21Cause I love you for a thousand years
00:16:26I love you for a thousand more
00:16:32And all alone I believe that I would find you
00:16:38I would find you wrong too hard to be
00:16:40And I love you for a thousand years
00:16:45I love you for a thousand more
00:17:05To have the gift of watching you and getting to watch him
00:17:11Like when I'm on stage and my boys are out there
00:17:13I don't know what they're doing
00:17:14And I feel like I just got a glimpse of what they might be doing
00:17:17When I'm on stage
00:17:18And it just made my mom's heart so happy
00:17:21Your talent is limitless
00:17:24Thank you
00:17:25Thank you guys
00:17:31Every time I see him lay eyes on him while I'm singing on that stage
00:17:34Man that gives me an extra boost
00:17:36If God willing I hope I make it to the top 20
00:17:39This is too hard
00:17:43It's difficult
00:17:44People really stepped it up to you know superstar level
00:17:47Everyone is amazing
00:17:49Sometimes before you can watch someone fly
00:17:52You have to let them hit rock bottom
00:18:01Hello everybody
00:18:02My name is Braden Rumfelt
00:18:04I'm 22 years old
00:18:05And I'm from Murphy, North Carolina
00:18:17When I was a baby
00:18:19My dad would sit musical instruments
00:18:22At the bottom of our cribs
00:18:24And he felt like you know
00:18:25That was going to give us like these abilities
00:18:27Right
00:18:27Which it might have
00:18:28Who knows
00:18:29Will the circle be unbroken
00:18:34Growing up in a family where it's cool to sing
00:18:37You know that's got me to this point
00:18:39If it weren't for them I wouldn't be here
00:18:41Much less going to Hawaii
00:18:44For you to get here is
00:18:47It's powerful
00:18:49You let your light shine before the world
00:18:53And the sky roll in the sky
00:19:05Some people live for the fortune
00:19:10Some people live just for the fame
00:19:15Some people think that the fears are cool things
00:19:23Define what's within
00:19:27I've been and I've been there before
00:19:32And that life's so poor
00:19:35So full of the superficial
00:19:39And some people want it all
00:19:44But I don't want nothing at all
00:19:47If it ain't you baby
00:19:50If I ain't got you baby
00:19:53Some people want time to reach
00:19:56Some just want everything
00:19:59But everything but everything means nothing
00:20:02If I ain't got you
00:20:05Oh yeah
00:20:10Oh yeah
00:20:12Oh
00:20:13Oh
00:20:13Oh
00:20:14Sing it
00:20:15If I ain't got you
00:20:40If I ain't got you
00:21:00I feel like I just had the biggest smile on my face the whole time
00:21:07Your voice is just velvety and big
00:21:11You've got a lot of power in there
00:21:13And in all the right places
00:21:15Thank you
00:21:15It's good to see y'all again
00:21:16Love you boys
00:21:21You know what I like seeing this family
00:21:23And the connection is exact
00:21:25That's exactly what I wanted to see
00:21:26I thought he had really great control
00:21:29And power to his voice
00:21:31But he hit a couple of rough notes
00:21:33Here we go
00:21:36Performing in front of the editor of Rolling Stone
00:21:39Jeez Louise
00:21:40There's so many other eyes on us
00:21:42Who get a say in our future
00:21:44It's a little frightening
00:21:45Oh come on barefoot
00:21:49I'm Hannah Harper from Southeast Missouri
00:21:52And I'm going to sing a country classic
00:21:53That my grandpa used to sing
00:21:54To honor his musical legacy
00:21:56I'm really excited about the Ohana Round
00:21:58To have the chance to honor my grandpa
00:22:00He was a patriarch
00:22:01So many branches of talented people
00:22:04That came from him
00:22:05He played music until the day he died
00:22:07Good music that we can all relate to as a family
00:22:11And we all play together at it
00:22:12And everybody likes it
00:22:14Bluegrass and gospel
00:22:15That will keep us together
00:22:17The legacy that he left was such a strong impression on my life
00:22:21I want to do the same for my kids
00:22:24I wish my grandpa was here to hear it
00:22:25My grandma's going to be here
00:22:26And she's going to be so thrilled
00:22:27Because it was his favorite song
00:22:29I know your life
00:22:34On earth was troubled
00:22:38And only you
00:22:43Could know
00:22:45The pain
00:22:46You weren't afraid
00:22:50To face the devil
00:22:55You were no stranger
00:23:00To the rain
00:23:03Go rest high
00:23:09On that mountain
00:23:11Son, your work
00:23:17On earth is done
00:23:20Come to heaven
00:23:38Go rest high
00:23:42On that mountain
00:23:45I love her tones this morning
00:23:48Son, your work on earth is done.
00:23:55Go to heaven, there shall be love for the Father and the Son.
00:24:27Gosh, there are so many parallels with your voice and Dolly and just, it's just so beautifully
00:24:35country.
00:24:36But just remember that key that you got to at the end and really live in that space because
00:24:40your voice really opened up there.
00:24:42You've got the goods and that was, your voice is so beautiful to me.
00:24:46Appreciate it, thank you.
00:24:48You've got that straight, authentic mountain voice, boy.
00:24:53You can definitely see that she was missing something because she usually plays the guitar.
00:24:58But, I don't know, I think she really delivered it and she felt like she was herself.
00:25:03I mean, obviously everybody can sing because they're here.
00:25:06But there's going to only be a handful that can make it to that star quality, you know?
00:25:10Say that again.
00:25:11What did you, what did you just, no, what did you just say?
00:25:13It was important.
00:25:14I said, would you go for the best singer or would you go for someone who you know would
00:25:19sell tickets, has a look and has a voice?
00:25:22These are the questions we have to ask ourselves.
00:25:47These are the questions we have to ask ourselves.
00:25:52But for right now, I'm just going to start with a song.
00:25:54Aw.
00:25:58It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside.
00:26:07I'm not one of those who can easily hide.
00:26:14I don't have much money, but boy, if I did, I'd buy a big house where we both could live.
00:26:31If I was a scolder, but then again, no.
00:26:37Or a man who makes potions in a traveling shot.
00:26:47I've lost that choice.
00:26:48Wow.
00:26:49That was so unexpected.
00:26:50That's the best I can do.
00:26:54My gift is my song and this one's for you.
00:27:00Oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:27:03And you can tell everybody.
00:27:06That this is your song.
00:27:10It may be quite simple, but now that it's done.
00:27:17Hope you don't mind.
00:27:19I hope you don't mind.
00:27:21That I put down in love.
00:27:27Sing it.
00:27:28How wonderful life is while you're in the world.
00:27:45What a boy.
00:27:47Identity is hard when you sing such an iconic song like Elton's.
00:27:51But for you to hang on and keep in control of that is amazing.
00:27:56Way to come out here and box, all right?
00:28:01Thank you, guys.
00:28:07I loved her.
00:28:08Listen, I always go for the rocker girls, and she nailed it.
00:28:12I really liked her energy.
00:28:14I loved her grit.
00:28:16I, like, honestly am, like, not an emotional person, but, like, I thought about my mom and dad and just,
00:28:21like, how they've literally been there for me since day one.
00:28:24Well, it's okay.
00:28:28Those parents are having to be extra parental today.
00:28:31Oh, my God.
00:28:33Hi, everyone.
00:28:34My name is Abayami Lewis, and I will be singing Rise Up by Andrea Day.
00:28:38I'm doing this song for my mother.
00:28:41She is a single parent, and life is not easy being a single parent.
00:28:45She has taught me to rise up against all things that I'm dealing with, and it inspires me.
00:28:51I know I can rise up.
00:28:53We will rise.
00:28:55We will rise.
00:28:57We will rise.
00:29:04We will rise, yeah.
00:29:09We will rise, yeah, we will rise up.
00:29:11We will rise like the dead, oh, rise up.
00:29:15We will rise upon thefraid.
00:29:18Oh, rise up.
00:29:19And I'll do it a thousand times again
00:29:25For you, for you
00:29:32For you, for you
00:29:37For you, we will rise
00:29:51Thank you
00:29:53Thank you
00:29:57Guzi
00:30:00She's freaking 16 and she's like a Disney star, you know what I mean?
00:30:05And for singer to have like that big belt and a beautiful head voice like that is so rare
00:30:11If the tide takes California
00:30:16I'm so glad I got to hold you
00:30:20My family has always been by my side throughout my entire music journey
00:30:24So it's really exciting to do this Ohana rap
00:30:28Till forever falls apart
00:30:33Till forever falls apart
00:30:37My parents have always sacrificed so much time and everything for this
00:30:41And it means so much to me that they're here right now and doing all this
00:30:44It really means a lot
00:30:45If the tide takes California
00:30:50I'm so glad I got to know ya
00:30:55And if the sky falls from heaven above
00:30:59Oh, I know I had the best time falling into love
00:31:09And for a while, for all mine
00:31:14I've spent a lifetime giving you my heart
00:31:18I swear that I'll be yours forever
00:31:20I'll be yours forever
00:31:22I'll be yours forever
00:31:29I'll be yours forever
00:31:29Till forever falls apart
00:31:36Till forever falls apart
00:31:36I'll be yours forever
00:31:38What about that?
00:31:38Thank you so much
00:31:40Thank you so much
00:31:42A breath of fresh air
00:31:47How many are we getting rid of tonight?
00:31:49So there's 30 and we have to get down to 20
00:31:52Oh, ten, oh God
00:31:53Yeah
00:31:54Here we go, close by
00:31:56I'm worried. There's a lot of talented people that are in this group
00:32:00Let's please give it up for Brian Thomas.
00:32:06I can't point a finger at anyone I don't think is going to make it to the top 20, which
00:32:10makes it so scary.
00:32:12This next song goes out to all the people that we've had to leave behind in order to pursue our
00:32:17dreams.
00:32:18For this round, I'll be singing Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.
00:32:20This song is kind of about change.
00:32:23I just recently moved to South Florida in the pursuit of love.
00:32:27I hardly see anyone now. I kind of lost my family.
00:32:30It's just one of those seasons of life.
00:32:34Hey, bud. I'm super proud of you.
00:32:38I know how you've been dreaming about this your whole life.
00:32:42Having you here and just getting to spend the time.
00:32:50I miss you.
00:32:52I miss you. I miss being home.
00:32:55I love you with all my heart.
00:32:57I love you too.
00:33:06Well, I've been afraid of changing
00:33:12Cause I've built my life around you
00:33:19Great. I'm praying for you.
00:33:21Jay.
00:33:22But time made you older
00:33:25Even children get older
00:33:29And I'm getting older too
00:33:36Ooh, so take my love
00:33:40Take it down
00:33:45Caught the mountain and turn around
00:33:50And if you see my reflection in the snow-colored hair
00:34:03Maybe the Landslide will bring it down
00:34:09Oh, the Landslide brought me down
00:34:21Oh, the Landslide brought me down
00:34:39I remember
00:34:40I got a song to deliver
00:34:41And I got to make sure
00:34:43I'm knocking this thing out
00:34:44Start to finish
00:34:45Now, you're one of my favorite voices
00:34:47But it got a little screamy a little bit
00:34:50So just curb down some of that over-raspy gravelly stuff
00:34:55Thank you so much
00:34:58I was trying my hardest to get through this song
00:35:00And that just wasn't what the judges were looking for this round
00:35:03He was trying real hard
00:35:04Yeah
00:35:05He doesn't need to
00:35:05He did a really good job
00:35:07I'm so proud
00:35:08I'm glad my dad got to see it
00:35:10Cause it might have been my last performance of the Idol, so
00:35:18Welcome back to Idol's Ohana Round
00:35:20Where Ray is hoping to make it to America's vote
00:35:23I was looking at the camera and I was like
00:35:25This is so giving Love Island confessional
00:35:27It is
00:35:29Hi everyone
00:35:31My name is Ray
00:35:32I'm gonna be singing I'll Be There by The Jackson Five
00:35:35Yes
00:35:35I wanted to dedicate this song to my sister
00:35:39My heart, my soul, everything
00:35:41My sister Jamie is one of the most important people in my life
00:35:45She's the only person that really understands me
00:35:48And what I'm going through
00:35:51I just love you so much
00:35:52And this is for you
00:35:53My promise to you that I'll always be there for you
00:35:56So sweet
00:35:57A sister's love
00:35:58Ain't nothing like a sister's love now
00:36:01You and I must make a pact
00:36:06You and I must make a pact
00:36:07We must bring salvation back
00:36:13Okay
00:36:14Where there is love
00:36:17Where there is love
00:36:19I'll be there
00:36:23Oh my God
00:36:25I'll reach out my hand to you
00:36:30Come on girl
00:36:31You and I must make a pact
00:36:32I have faith in all you do
00:36:36You better sing the song then
00:36:39Where there is love
00:36:43I'll be there
00:36:49Oh, I'll be there to comfort you
00:36:54Build my world of dreams around you
00:36:57I'm so glad I found you, baby
00:37:01What is going on?
00:37:02I'll be there with the love so strong
00:37:06I'll be astray
00:37:08You know I'll keep running on
00:37:14I'll be there
00:37:17There you go
00:37:19There you go
00:37:20I'll be there, yeah
00:37:28I'll be there
00:37:47There you go
00:37:48Sing it, baby!
00:37:49I think America's gonna be there
00:37:51I think so
00:37:52You always just command the stage so perfectly, such confidence
00:37:58And I tell you, you are one of our exceptional voices that we have
00:38:03It's just really awesome to watch you be able to tell your sister how much you love her
00:38:10And you are a serious contender
00:38:12That was a great performance
00:38:14Thank you so much
00:38:17I love my sister so much
00:38:18I'm just seeing her just gave me all the nerves went away
00:38:22She came out, hand breaks off, no stops, just went in and I loved it
00:38:26Love it
00:38:27So good
00:38:30Thank you guys so much
00:38:33I'm Jake Thistle from New Jersey and I'm playing a song called Sleep On Me which is an original
00:38:37It was really important for me to play an original during this round because my parents and my family have
00:38:41always been really supportive of me writing songs
00:38:44When I was really young, a family friend played guitar and he gave me one because I was a toddler
00:38:50and it made noise
00:38:52I started gigging when I was nine years old and my parents drove me to every gig until I could
00:38:56get my license
00:38:56It meant a lot to have that foundation
00:38:58They're not here physically with me in Hawaii but my parents do know that I'm dedicating this song to them
00:39:03It's gonna be really special
00:39:06These hours aren't meant for conversation time
00:39:10Well, I'm confident
00:39:11Yep
00:39:11It's too soon for tomorrow and too late for tonight
00:39:16That's why I'm shaking and pacing like I forgot my life
00:39:23And I wrote the show and I've lived the life
00:39:29The sky looks so vacant on these kind of nights
00:39:37It's gone when you're placing your cautious head and mine
00:39:49Forever maintaining the illusion that we are gonna be alright
00:40:00So sleep on me, sleep on me, one day I'm gonna get it right
00:40:06So sleep on me, sleep on
00:40:08I'ma make it up to your kind of guy
00:40:12Trying to be, trying to be
00:40:15Someone who you like
00:40:17Oh, sleep on me, sleep on
00:40:20I'm a stranger back to sight
00:40:24Hey
00:40:26Wow
00:40:27Thank you so much
00:40:28I appreciate it, thank you
00:40:29I felt like I was at his show
00:40:31I love it
00:40:32Yeah
00:40:32Alright Jake, so you know you took a big chance
00:40:36Keep those vocals just as you started out at the beginning strong
00:40:39Keep it all the way through
00:40:42But as a songwriter to a songwriter, you did well
00:40:45Thank you so much, really kind of you guys, thank you
00:40:50You could hear him in a studio and like
00:40:54Lock him right there
00:40:55It's like watching young Bruce Springsteen
00:40:59There you go
00:40:59Paul Simon
00:41:00There you go
00:41:01I don't know, he ain't the artist
00:41:02He's an artist
00:41:04Sleep on me, sleep on me
00:41:07Da da da da da
00:41:09Catch me, I liked it
00:41:22I'm Brooks, I'm from Bel Air, Maryland
00:41:24I'm gonna be singing Everywhere Everything
00:41:26Because family is everywhere
00:41:28And they mean everything
00:41:31Aw
00:41:32Yeah
00:41:37I love this song
00:41:38Mmm
00:41:42Two bodies
00:41:43Riddled with scars
00:41:46From our pretense
00:41:48And intertwined in a car's dirty bike scene
00:41:53Stare at a driving screen now
00:41:59It's been a long year
00:42:02And all of our books pages dog year
00:42:07We write out the ends
00:42:09Of our wrong steer
00:42:12And forget to read
00:42:16This is one of the most unique voices I've ever heard in my life
00:42:20Yet the sun was collapsing
00:42:26Until the seas rose
00:42:28And the buildings came crashing
00:42:37Everywhere, everything
00:42:38Everywhere, everything
00:42:39Everywhere, everything
00:42:40When I love you to work food for the worms to eat
00:42:43Till our fingers decompose
00:42:48Keep my hands in the right
00:42:52Keep my hands in yours
00:42:53Keep my hands in yours
00:42:54Try slowly
00:42:56Know every route in this county
00:43:00Maybe that ain't such a bad thing
00:43:05Tell you where not to speak
00:43:13Everywhere, everything
00:43:15Love, it's your word, food for the world to eat
00:43:20Till our fingers decompose
00:43:25Keep our hands in yours
00:43:32Keep my hands in yours
00:43:39What did that happen?
00:43:41What did that happen?
00:43:43Oh, bruh
00:43:46Every time you open your mouth and sing, I want more
00:43:49I feel like we've seen you already like kind of stepping in
00:43:53Getting a little more confidence in yourself
00:43:55Just keep leaning into that
00:43:57And it's so fun to watch and it's so fun to listen to
00:44:00Thank you so much
00:44:07It's like, thanks, thanks, bye
00:44:10Charlie
00:44:12Like
00:44:14I'm obsessed with her
00:44:15So unassuming
00:44:16And I watch this crowd over here, they weren't expecting that to come out
00:44:19What kind of alien, unexpected, crazy voice was that?
00:44:24Whee! Where'd that voice come from?
00:44:26I've never heard a tone like that
00:44:32Welcome back
00:44:34As our Ohana round continues
00:44:36Lionel checks in on the families
00:44:38I love watching this, boy
00:44:40I don't
00:44:41It's just agonizing as parents
00:44:43Who might be struggling with tonight's decision to award one platinum ticket
00:44:48I don't know what y'all are going through, but hang in there, y'all
00:44:50Wow
00:44:51I know
00:44:52They're all doing so incredible
00:44:54Yeah
00:44:54Everyone's doing amazing
00:44:57Lightfully
00:45:00Lightfully
00:45:04Lightfully
00:45:05Lightfully
00:45:06Lightfully
00:45:08Lightfully
00:45:10Lightfully
00:45:10You better sing it, you better sing it
00:45:13Thank you so much, thank you
00:45:14Great, big boy, love you
00:45:15Well, we are keeping tabs on everybody on that piece of paper
00:45:18Yeah
00:45:18We're gonna vote based on our notes
00:45:21We're very serious
00:45:22But it's
00:45:23I'll tell ya, it's very difficult
00:45:25And the second platinum ticket decision belongs to the industry experts
00:45:30The truth is, everybody deserves a shot
00:45:32The talent is so high that everyone literally deserves this
00:45:35But who are we gonna give it to?
00:45:37It ain't about how fast I get there
00:45:41It ain't about what's waiting on the other side
00:45:50It ain't right
00:45:53Yeah
00:45:54Yeah
00:46:00The third platinum ticket will be chosen by the idols themselves
00:46:04I just see exceptional talent
00:46:07And I just don't know how I'm gonna narrow that down at all
00:46:11I don't, I don't know
00:46:12When everything's meant to be broken
00:46:16I just want you to know who I am
00:46:21I just want you to know who I am
00:46:27I just want you to know who I am
00:46:34I just want you to know who I am
00:46:44I just want you to know who I am
00:46:48It feels insane to be in the top 30
00:46:52There's a lot of pressure knowing that 10 people are gonna go home
00:46:55One, two
00:46:56Yeah, sounds good
00:46:57my dad for this round suggested photograph by ed sheeran ed sheeran has always been one of my
00:47:02favorite singers he had a stutter when he was younger and he's been super open about it it's
00:47:07crazy it's like the perfect song i relate to it in so many ways i'm dedicating this song
00:47:12to my grandpa um he passed away six years ago but he was a photographer and he spent so much
00:47:19of his life capturing the most important moments of other people's lives
00:47:25i just felt like i could really be myself around him and we could laugh with each other
00:47:33even though he can't be here taking pictures of me uh i know he's watching right now looking back at
00:47:39photos of him reminds me of the love that my whole family shared with him i'm going to be thinking
00:47:44about him and just reminding the world of how how great he was
00:47:55loving can hurt
00:48:00loving can hurt sometimes it is the only thing that i know
00:48:13it is the only thing that makes us feel alive
00:48:23we keep this love in a photograph we make his memories for ourselves when our eyes are never closing
00:48:35hearts are never broken time's forever frozen still so you can keep me inside the pocket of your
00:48:47ripped jeans holding me closer until our eyes meet you won't ever be alone
00:48:59wait for me to come home
00:49:03wait for me to come home
00:49:08wait for me to come
00:49:10wait for me to come home
00:49:11wait for me to come home
00:49:40Wait for me to come home.
00:49:46Oh, my God!
00:49:49Oh, my God!
00:49:51Oh, my God!
00:49:52Oh, my God!
00:49:54Ugh.
00:49:55I mean, it's honest, and it's real, and it's believable,
00:50:00and it's just beautiful.
00:50:02Thank you so much.
00:50:03Thank you, guys.
00:50:07Dude, it's insane.
00:50:10Insane vocal.
00:50:11I love listening to them talk about it.
00:50:14He was so consistent, start to finish.
00:50:15He went viral already, and I can see why, you know?
00:50:19You can tell when somebody's humble, the way he's standing up here.
00:50:22I think that matters a lot.
00:50:23It now comes down to who cuts through.
00:50:26Yeah.
00:50:34Hello, hello, everyone.
00:50:35My name is Sheldon Riley, and I'm from Australia.
00:50:37I just want to quickly say how beautiful it is to me to see all of you family here for
00:50:43this God-given talent over this side.
00:50:45I know what the sacrifice is to be here.
00:50:48Unfortunately, I don't have family here with me today.
00:50:52I actually haven't had family with me in a long time on this music journey of mine.
00:50:58Sorry.
00:50:59We got us!
00:50:59We got us!
00:51:02Sorry, sorry.
00:51:05Sometimes in life, when you are not handed the right cards and put in the right family with the right
00:51:11people, you have to build your own family and your own home.
00:51:16And that's what Ohana is to me.
00:51:18So, I'm really grateful to be here.
00:51:21Thank you for having me.
00:51:22And thank you for being my little family here with me.
00:51:25Yeah.
00:51:29I'm singing To Build A Home by Patrick Watson.
00:51:33It's about building that home for yourself, that place where you don't feel alone.
00:51:38I think a big reason why I've come to American Idol is that I've found that for myself.
00:51:42You know, I've built my own Ohana, so it feels like the perfect song to celebrate everyone that's made that
00:51:46happen.
00:51:47There is a house built out of stone.
00:51:54Oh, this is a place where I, I don't feel alone.
00:52:05Oh, this is a place where I, where I feel at home.
00:52:18Oh, the business was looking for fun.
00:52:29Oh?
00:52:38Oh!
00:52:40Oh!
00:52:42Ah!
00:52:43Oh?
00:52:45Oh!
00:52:45It's actually really kind of, that one face.
00:52:52Oh
00:52:55Oh
00:52:58Oh
00:53:01I've been
00:53:02Yeah
00:53:03Home
00:53:07For you
00:53:09For me
00:53:11Yeah
00:53:12And now
00:53:14It's
00:53:16Time
00:53:18To leave
00:53:20Yeah
00:53:22Yeah
00:53:24Oh
00:53:28The time
00:53:29I built it out
00:53:39No
00:53:41I
00:53:42Build
00:53:43A home
00:53:55So sorry
00:53:57You good?
00:53:58Yeah I'm good
00:53:59I'm good
00:54:01You have so
00:54:03Much
00:54:04Talent and range
00:54:06And power in your vocals
00:54:08I feel like your brain just gets in the way
00:54:12I feel like you're kind of
00:54:13Building up some walls
00:54:16In front of us
00:54:17Every time you sing
00:54:19But you don't need to do that
00:54:21Because you're enough
00:54:23Thank you
00:54:23You're here
00:54:26That was some words of wisdom right there
00:54:29It's just going to be a mind game
00:54:30I have to kind of work through
00:54:33I don't know the industry's been really nasty to me
00:54:36I've had to put walls up for a long time
00:54:40I think
00:54:41That what is going to come out of this
00:54:43Experience for him
00:54:45He'll actually find himself
00:54:47Yeah
00:54:48Carrie that was good
00:54:49You better preach
00:54:49That was so good
00:54:51That was, that was deep
00:55:02My name is Julian Kalel
00:55:04I'm 19 years old
00:55:05From El Paso, Texas
00:55:06And I wrote this song called Surrender
00:55:09I auditioned with this song
00:55:10For my very, very first audition
00:55:12My family was there
00:55:13Feels like it was only yesterday
00:55:15That I was in that room with those judges
00:55:17When I wrote the song Surrender
00:55:19I was really, really down
00:55:22So I went to my dad
00:55:23And he told me
00:55:24That anxiety
00:55:25The fear
00:55:26Whatever's out of your control
00:55:27Let it stay out of your control
00:55:29It's not worth your fear
00:55:31He was the one that said
00:55:33Surrender
00:55:34Surrender those feelings
00:55:36Not only were we able to help him
00:55:38Reach lighter place
00:55:40It actually turned into a song
00:55:43I don't know why
00:55:48To see him arrive on this stage
00:55:52This is everything that we've prayed for
00:55:55I just want to dedicate this song to you, Papa
00:55:58Thank you for always being by my side
00:56:01Through my absolute worst and my best
00:56:04And I love you
00:56:04Love you, Mikko
00:56:05Thank you
00:56:06Bye
00:56:06He kissed the cross
00:56:08He kissed the cross
00:56:09He may always do that
00:56:13Bye
00:56:25There's a hole in my chest
00:56:30Knock me down
00:56:31Lay me to rest
00:56:33Knock me down
00:56:33Lay me to rest
00:56:35Drown my thoughts with kerosene
00:56:40Bring my fears to my soul
00:56:45Tired of fighting
00:56:46Tired of keeping up the side
00:56:49Now I'm a couple ties in
00:56:51Memories of flooding by
00:56:53So I surrender
00:56:57If it's more than I have waged
00:57:00I'll raise a fly
00:57:01But fate is innocence
00:57:04Oh, I'm tired of death
00:57:07So I'll let it go
00:57:10I know my soul
00:57:11And all that slip
00:57:12But I hope I pass your test
00:57:16I'll be gone without a sound
00:57:19When my heart fails me
00:57:21And I'm not around
00:57:22Floating on the paths I used to cross
00:57:27Something stops me
00:57:29Guess I found
00:57:30The stories end
00:57:31It's all clear now
00:57:32The only feeling bigger than love is lost
00:57:36So I surrender
00:57:40If it's more than I have waged
00:57:43I'll wave a fly
00:57:44But fate is in his hands
00:57:47You know I'm tired as ever
00:57:49Oh, I'm tired as ever
00:57:55Oh, I surrender
00:58:00Oh, I surrender
00:58:02Oh, I surrender
00:58:03Oh, I surrender
00:58:07Oh, I surrender
00:58:10That's an artist
00:58:11That is an artist
00:58:12Bravo!
00:58:14Bravo!
00:58:16You're so solid, I mean, I've heard you do that song before, and the fact that you've
00:58:22written that song, just even some of the changes in the chord progression are so mature and
00:58:29far beyond your age, and you just got the star magic, one of my favorite performances
00:58:34of the night.
00:58:35Yeah.
00:58:36Love you.
00:58:36Thank you so much.
00:58:38To get the opportunity to even play that song on a stage like this, I'm just glad that I
00:58:43never gave up.
00:58:43It's come full circle, for him to share it with his sister, just made it all the more
00:58:48special.
00:58:49It just makes me so, so thankful to be loved by my parents and my family, and I'm just
00:58:55so grateful.
00:59:02Just beeping, hold on one second.
00:59:04Takes me back to the construction days.
00:59:08Back it up.
00:59:09My name's Cutter Bradley, I'm from Florence, Alabama.
00:59:12Florence, Alabama, I know where you're from.
00:59:14I used to be a welder and a machinist, so I went to college for that.
00:59:17I've worked many jobs, from carpentry, welding, to construction.
00:59:23But music, ever since I did music, something was just poking at me like, I gotta see how
00:59:28far I can take it.
00:59:29I'll be singing some Jason Aldean, Amarillo Sky.
00:59:32And the reason I picked that song is because it's a song about hard work, dedicating it
00:59:36to my parents right here, because they showed me what hard work is, and it's rubbed off
00:59:41only because I'm hard working for my dreams right now, so.
00:59:44Thanks.
00:59:45That's right.
00:59:48This is that low tempo I was hoping for.
00:59:51I love it.
00:59:51It gets up before the dawn, packs of lunch and thermos full of coffee.
01:00:00It's another day in the dusty haze, the burning rays are wearing down his body.
01:00:09The pace is worth the price of gold, it's the cheapest thing he's ever sold.
01:00:15Come on now.
01:00:17He's still holding on.
01:00:21He just takes a tractor another round, pulls a plow across the ground.
01:00:28He sends up another prayer.
01:00:31He says, Lord, I never complain, I never ask why, please don't let my dreams run dry.
01:00:41I don't know if it's gonna drive hard.
01:00:48Come on.
01:00:48You're right now.
01:00:49He says, I keep listening.
01:00:49He gets up for a minute now, who's a girl.
01:00:50Pick a man.
01:00:50He says, I think it's gonna be a little bub.
01:00:50Oh, I'm a little bub.
01:00:50It's gonna be a little bub.
01:00:51And He takes a tractor another round, another round, another round.
01:01:02Come on, Lord.
01:01:03I never complain, I never ask why, please don't let my dreams run dry.
01:01:11Go to me, go to me,
01:01:14this Samarillo sky.
01:01:20Thank y'all.
01:01:25Great song choice for you.
01:01:27And I tell you, rocking overalls in Hawaii.
01:01:30I tell you what, that's pretty amazing.
01:01:33You really impressed me with where you went vocally.
01:01:36I enjoyed it. Great job.
01:01:38Thank you so much.
01:01:38Thank y'all.
01:01:41Taking the part, playing it, slinging it around,
01:01:43and then going out to the audience,
01:01:45I was like, hey, I see you, I see you.
01:01:48A lot of crushing down there?
01:01:50Yes.
01:01:51Carrie, Carrie's crushing too.
01:01:53I said, no.
01:01:54I see where you're coming from,
01:01:57and you are correct, ma'am.
01:02:00With the added pressure of not only the judges,
01:02:02but also the industry experts deciding their fate,
01:02:06the weight of the moment
01:02:07is getting this up.
01:02:09The industry experts are going to be voting for us,
01:02:11which is scary.
01:02:13She was missing, was a little bit of confidence.
01:02:15You can tell she's one of the younger performers.
01:02:17She doesn't have the experience.
01:02:19There'll absolutely be more pressure.
01:02:20I thought she was a superstar.
01:02:22I agree.
01:02:25Oh!
01:02:26That's a steal wrong.
01:02:27It's super scary to know that they're going to be watching and judging.
01:02:30It looked like she was a little bored.
01:02:33Oh, what are you talking about?
01:02:35Oh, my goodness.
01:02:36That was storytelling.
01:02:38I wish she would have looked over here,
01:02:40but I thought she brought the power to the song.
01:02:43That was beautiful.
01:02:44The way she said it sounds better than you said.
01:02:48That's what you said.
01:02:49Definitely got to bring my A-game.
01:02:51I got to, you know,
01:02:53I got to do something.
01:02:54You got it, Mike.
01:02:56Bring me the song.
01:02:57Oh.
01:03:22You're just a baby.
01:03:25It just felt like it was, something was a little off.
01:03:28Maybe it wasn't his best performance.
01:03:30I was seeing, like, a country Bieber with the, you know, the little hair flip.
01:03:37Yes!
01:03:37Yes!
01:03:39That's exactly right!
01:03:41Shirley, the co-editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone, is going to be here.
01:03:45I am, like, freaking out.
01:03:48Hello, duck.
01:03:50Hi, everyone.
01:03:51My name is Kendall,
01:03:52and today I'm actually singing a song that I wrote.
01:03:55It's called Woman of Me.
01:03:57I wrote it for my mom.
01:03:58I can't look at her too long, or I will immediately cry.
01:04:01My mom is my favorite person in the whole entire world.
01:04:04She has been a backbone and just a rock in my life.
01:04:11But growing up, we had a tendency to clash.
01:04:14I was a pretty rebellious kid.
01:04:16Like, I started hanging around with the wrong people, dropped out of school,
01:04:19moved all the way to the other side of the country in L.A.
01:04:23I needed to go and explore the world and learn and fall flat on my face.
01:04:28And I'm sure that, like, I'm sure that really broke her heart, you know?
01:04:37Whoa.
01:04:39I think that sometimes before you can watch someone fly, you have to let them hit rock bottom.
01:04:45And it was the hardest thing that I've ever done.
01:04:48She was 18 years old, and she needed to go.
01:04:51She needed to figure it out.
01:04:55Having a mother that loved me enough to let me go, but be standing there with open arms when I
01:05:03ran back
01:05:06is a gratitude I can't fully even express.
01:05:09And so I tried with this song.
01:05:11And I just, I really want to honor her with this.
01:05:14I really want her to understand just how special she is to me.
01:05:25I'm a daughter of a God-fearing woman
01:05:29Countless nights she probably laid there awake
01:05:34To her surprise I did everything I shouldn't
01:05:40On a way both hearts would break
01:05:46From time to time
01:05:48There's a look in her eyes
01:05:52She didn't think she did it right
01:05:54Oh, God
01:05:55She was the light when there was no light I could see
01:06:01Gave me a reason to fight
01:06:06She wiped my eyes when the world turned its back on me
01:06:12Taught me all my wrong from rights
01:06:17Couldn't fit all of my thanks in a bottle
01:06:22It'd break before it drifted into a sea
01:06:27She was a girl
01:06:30She was a girl before she was a woman
01:06:32Now she's made a woman of me
01:06:36Very good
01:06:38She wiped my eyes when the world turned its back on me
01:06:44Taught me all my wrong from rights
01:06:48I couldn't fit all of my thanks in a bottle
01:06:54It'd break before it drifted into a sea
01:06:58She was a girl before she was a woman
01:07:04Now she's made a woman
01:07:07She's made a woman
01:07:10She's made a woman
01:07:14Of me
01:07:19Thank you
01:07:20Thank you
01:07:21That songwriting is incredible
01:07:24Oh, Kendall
01:07:25I just want to hear more of your songs
01:07:29You're such a great storyteller
01:07:31Thank you
01:07:31And you have the voice to back it all up
01:07:35Wow
01:07:35So if this was truly a moment meant for you right now
01:07:40Thank you so much
01:07:41Thank you
01:07:47Perfect, no complaints
01:07:48That's my American Idol
01:07:50I can't even
01:07:50I'm so proud of her
01:07:53I couldn't even look at my mom
01:07:54Like I knew I would cry
01:07:55But she was right there on my heart
01:07:58And I just like felt her
01:07:59And that was such a special moment
01:08:01I wish I could do it again and again and again
01:08:16I'll be singing all I want by Kodalon
01:08:18Dedicated to my great-grandmother
01:08:21Her name was Mama Rice to me
01:08:22But to everybody else
01:08:23She was Nancy
01:08:24The song that he picked
01:08:25It means a lot to the family
01:08:28She was a huge supporter of me
01:08:30And this is one of the songs
01:08:32This is one of the songs
01:08:33This is one of the songs
01:08:34She loved for me to sing to her
01:08:35I sung it in hospice
01:08:37Just unfortunately before she passed away
01:08:39So hopefully y'all like it
01:08:42All right
01:08:43All right
01:08:44All right
01:08:45All right
01:09:11Wow
01:09:11Yeah
01:09:11I feel happy
01:09:13I feel happy
01:09:13I'm sure
01:09:14But if you love me
01:09:19Why'd you leave me?
01:09:24Take my body
01:09:27Take my body
01:09:31And all I want is
01:09:35And all I need is
01:09:40To find somebody
01:09:42To find somebody
01:09:44I'll find somebody
01:09:48I'll find somebody
01:09:49Like you
01:09:54If you love me
01:09:58Why'd you leave me?
01:10:03Take my body
01:10:05Take my body
01:10:09And all I want is
01:10:14And all I need is
01:10:18And all I need is
01:10:19Find somebody
01:10:21Find somebody
01:10:23I'll find somebody
01:10:27I'll find somebody
01:10:28Like you
01:10:29Ooh
01:10:29Ooh
01:10:37You
01:10:57Ooh
01:10:59Ooh
01:10:59Wow
01:10:59to feel intense and then on the soaring notes you kind of took us to this whole other place where
01:11:05we could just kind of feel that swell that's a gift great job thank you thank you so much
01:11:12i realized this voice could go that high for that long to be able to take a song that is
01:11:19usually
01:11:20taken in a completely different direction and bring it here was magic so proud of it
01:11:26i can't talk right i can't even breathe that was amazing to make it to the top 30 it feels
01:11:34like
01:11:35incredible you are meant to be here thank you i'm just enjoying it and soaking the knee in every
01:11:42which way you looking for me for the old home around i picked stand up by cynthia revo i will
01:11:48dedicate
01:11:48this song today to my lovely mother that's in the audience over here to the side my mom she is
01:11:55always stood up for me she has always paved the way for me been there every step of the way
01:12:01i had
01:12:03micaiah when i was at college single mom and so there were times where i didn't know how i was
01:12:11going to do some things we would come home from school and then we would go to my grandparents
01:12:15house and eat dinner i didn't know then as a child that was solely because we didn't have food
01:12:21everybody hits rough spots but i had a rough one it was a really dark time for her to allow
01:12:29me to solely
01:12:30be a child and have no worries she never let us see her suffer
01:12:39when my mom hears me perform this song i hope she feels that i will always be here for her
01:12:46through
01:12:47every step of the way same way she was there for me and that one day this all will pay
01:12:51off i've been walking
01:12:56with my face turned to the sun
01:13:13it's about to get dirty it's about to get dirty
01:13:15watch the clouds roll back and the stars fill the night that's when i wanna stand up
01:13:26take my people with me together we are going to a brand new home
01:13:39and i know
01:13:43what's around the bend
01:13:46might be hard
01:13:48to face cause i'm alone
01:13:51and i just might know
01:13:55but lord knows i tried
01:13:59it's about to get my people with me
01:14:11together we are going to a brand new home
01:14:17far across the river
01:14:20and you hear freedom calling calling me
01:14:26calling me to answer
01:14:27we're gonna keep on keeping on
01:14:30i can feel it in my mind
01:14:36i can feel it in my mind
01:14:43i can feel it in my mind
01:14:59my kia came here to kill
01:15:02it was so emotional it showed everybody what you can do
01:15:06it had southern moments it had southern gospel moments it had uplifting moments and uh really way to
01:15:13step out there and show us a whole nother level of what you can do thank you so much thank
01:15:18you
01:15:23you guys just left it all out there on the stage but i feel really good and
01:15:28hopefully i get a platinum ticket tonight what a way to close the show
01:15:31she took me to church honey she took me to church i loved every second of it
01:15:44coming up this is crazy who will survive to sing for your vote
01:15:49find out after the break really don't want to go home
01:15:54welcome back to american idol's brand new ohana round all 30 of our idol hopefuls have performed
01:16:00and now it's time to whittle them down to the top 20 who get the chance to sing for america's
01:16:06vote
01:16:06i am nervous because everyone was impressive i know you see a lot of voices out there i don't
01:16:12know i don't know but first there are three platinum tickets up for grabs and each one secures
01:16:18one of those spots but for the first time ever it's not the judges making the final call
01:16:25the first will be chosen by the industry tastemakers stuff y'all the second by the ohana the family
01:16:32members a lot of powerhouses and the third platinum ticket by their peers are idol hopefuls this is crazy
01:16:40now the ohana cannot vote for their own family members and the idols cannot vote for themselves
01:16:48it's really about whose performance moved them the most it is a gut-wrenching decision to have to
01:16:56make whatever hit me in the heart that's who i want it's difficult i mean i think just people that
01:17:01really stepped it up to you know superstar love as someone who's watched the show for so many seasons
01:17:07who's written about it who's covered it being on this side is it's really stressful seeing a baby
