00:00John Mayer, what was that like growing up with him?
00:02Did you know that he was going to be John Mayer,
00:05this kind of megastar when you guys were growing up?
00:07His parents, they lived too close to the school to get bussed,
00:11so they ended up spending every single day,
00:12him and his two brothers, spent every morning with us
00:15and every afternoon with us taking the bus with me and my brother.
00:18And so I actually think the first time he picked up a guitar
00:21was my dad's guitar, because we were just bored after school,
00:24hanging out, and I was, and we joked that when we,
00:27we lost touch a little bit around like when I was in college,
00:31and then we kind of rekindled it after I saw his performance
00:36and he saw my performance at the U.S. Open,
00:37and first thing we said was how crazy is this,
00:39that we were together in our basement, he was playing guitar,
00:42I was hitting tennis balls off the wall,
00:44and now that's what we do for a living,
00:46and since then I've gotten to see him at Madison Square Garden,
00:49I've seen him in London, he's seen me play at Wimbledon,
00:51he's seen me play at the U.S. Open,
00:53and it's just been so cool to see,
00:54because he genuinely, as soon as he picked it up,
00:56it was one of those things, you could see it happening,
00:58you could see the passion, as soon as he picked up a guitar,
01:02it's that, you know, the play till your fingers bled,
01:04and that kind of, he was doing that every single time,
01:06every moment he got, he was learning about it,
01:09and that's why, I mean, I'm extremely biased,
01:11but like that's why now he's one of the greatest of all time,
01:14because of that passion, and I mean,
01:16obviously there's some talent involved too,
01:17but his passion for music was just off the charts,
01:21and it was a ton of fun,
01:23and now getting to see his career,
01:25and him getting to see my career has been a ton of fun.
