00:00These are the three styling mistakes I see all the time and once you see them,
00:03you can't unsee them. I'm Miad, your Design Lab stylist and let's break them down.
00:11Scale is everything. Pieces out of proportion make a room feel unsettled and disturbs the
00:16visual balance and harmony of a room. Designers think in terms of visual weight. Sofas anchor,
00:22rugs define zones and key pieces should relate to one another in size. It's more about how a room
00:27reads as a whole. Start by choosing one or two grounding pieces like a sofa and a rug and then
00:33build everything in proportion around them. The room instantly feels more intentional and balanced
00:38and small adjustments can make a huge impact. Also, a room doesn't have to match perfectly. In fact,
00:44a little mix is fun but every piece should feel like it belongs in the same story.
00:48Designers today create cohesion with repetition across sight, tactility and materials so each
00:54piece feels intentionally connected. It's the little things that throw off a space. The trick
00:58is alignment to repeat shapes, textures and color across the room. So if your sofa has curves, echo
01:05that in a rug pattern, in a mirror or small objects, the space will feel considered and playful. And that
01:11brings me to the last mistake that I often see and that is treating lighting as an afterthought. One overhead
01:17lighting might be enough to see but it hides all your styling and it also flattens the room. Here,
01:22designers think in layers of lighting. Table and floor lamps and dimmable sources create depth and
01:28mood and it allows the room to change throughout the day. Think of lighting as atmosphere and not
01:33just illumination. You can place lamps where they highlight key pieces and add soft glow in corners to
01:39make the space feel more effortlessly styled and inviting. And if you've spotted any of these mistakes in
01:44your space, it's rarely about adding more but refining what's already there. And if you're still struggling,
