00:00Listen, I'm not one to criticize clerics and religious leaders.
00:06We defend free speech and we certainly defend the right to the free exercise of religion
00:09and you know, a pontiff or any religious leader can say anything they want, but obviously
00:14if you wade into political waters, I think you should expect some political response
00:19and I think the popes received some of that.
00:21You know, I was taken a little bit aback, just honestly, frankly, by something that
00:26was said, I think he said several days back, that something about those who engage in war,
00:31you know, that Jesus doesn't hear their prayers or something.
00:34You know, it is a very well settled matter of Christian theology.
00:38There's something called the just war doctrine.
00:39There's a time to every purpose under heaven.
00:42I think what the president's comments, what the vice president's comments reflect is their
00:46understanding deep in the, you know, the SCIF and the classified briefings of the stakes
00:51that are so high and the situation that we're facing and the fact that you had the nation
00:55that was the largest sponsor of terrorism, now having had that ability taken away from
01:02them.
01:02That means potentially millions of innocent people will be able to keep their lives and
01:09not be killed by terrorists.
01:10That's a good thing.
01:11That's what's come out of this, okay?
01:14So I don't want to engage in a theological debate with the pope.
01:17I certainly respect the pope.
01:18I would just say that these are matters that people of good faith and good sense can debate
01:23and think through and I think that's what that reflects.
01:25Yep.
01:25Speaker, not speaker.
01:26Speaker, not speaker.
01:26Speaker, not speaker.
