00:00Is the European Union reliant on trade with China?
00:07In 2025, trade between the European Union and China remained strong.
00:12The EU exported 199.6 billion euros worth of goods to China,
00:17while imports reached 559.4 billion euros,
00:21creating a trade deficit of 359.8 billion euros, according to Eurostand.
00:28Compared with 2024, EU exports fell by 6.5%,
00:32while imports from the Asian giant rose by 6.4%.
00:37But over the longer term, since 2015, EU exports to China have grown by 37.1%,
00:44while imports have surged by 89%.
00:47EU exports to China are led by machinery and mechanical appliances,
00:52making up 22.7% of the total.
00:55They are followed by electrical machinery and audiovisual equipment at 14.5%
01:00and vehicles at 8.2%.
01:02On the import side, just five categories account for nearly two-thirds of all goods.
01:08Electrical machinery and audiovisual equipment alone represent 29.5%,
01:13followed by machinery and mechanical appliances at 19%.
01:18Despite global tensions and the 2025 Trump tariff war, trade flows proved resilient.
01:23Both European and Chinese exports continue to grow,
01:26according to Brussels-based think tank Bruegel.
