00:00Want to make your tulips last longer? These are the four things I always do. So the first thing
00:05to do when you get your tulips home is you want to remove these lower leaves. You don't want any
00:09of these lower leaves below the water level so you can very carefully peel them back like that
00:16and you might find that that's the easiest way. What you don't really want is for this to sort
00:20of tear the inside of that stem so you could just carefully with your scissors snip along the edge
00:30and just remove it that way like that and then you get quite a neat little edge there as well.
00:37Second thing is just to give the ends a really simple straight cut and put them into water.
00:44When you get your tulips home they'll be really thirsty they won't have drunk for quite a while
00:49and that is often the reason why they droop so what we will do is leave them in the water
00:55for about
00:55three to four hours for them to rehydrate all that water goes straight up the stems it makes them a
01:00lot more turgid and then we can start to arrange with them. The third thing to do is fill a
01:05vase with
01:06some clean water and then lastly we take the stems that we've already cleaned and we're going to make
01:16a 45 degree cut on the end of each stem and then we arrange into the water.
01:24Just remember to change the water and re-cut the stems every two days to stop these ends from going
01:31mushy and from any bacteria from building up in the water. Now a fun fact about tulips is they're
01:37phototrophic which means they will continue to grow in the vase and they'll grow towards the light so
01:44you can use this to your advantage at home in your arrangements because you can create some really
01:49delightfully curved shapes from your tulips as they continue to grow. All you need to remember to do is
01:56turn the vase every so often to allow the tulips to then grow towards the light and you'll see that
02:03they just create these incredible shapes as they continue to mature and to open. Follow these steps
02:08and your tulips should last up to two weeks in a vase at home.
