00:00Over the past few years, the US tech giant has won big, lucrative contracts with the
00:03Ministry of Defense and the NHS. But the government is now coming under increasing
00:06scrutiny over those contracts, not least because of Palantir's ties to the Israeli military
00:10and US immigration enforcement agency ICE. Basically, it sells software that can analyse
00:14massive amounts of data and identify patterns. Its clients include governments and militaries
00:19who can use that information to make decisions. In 2023, a group of companies led by Palantir
00:23won a seven-year contract with the NHS to help manage patient data. But last June, according
00:28to documents seen by The Guardian, the Department of Health warned West Streeting, the health
00:31secretary, that Palantir's controversial ties with the Israeli military and ICE would make
00:35NHS organisations reluctant to use its platform. A spokesperson for Palantir said that its software
00:40was helping to deliver better public services in the UK. That includes delivering 99,000
00:45more NHS operations and reducing hospital discharge delays by 15%. In December, Palantir signed
00:50a contract with the Ministry of Defense to continue its existing data analytics relationship.
00:54The contract is believed to be worth ÂŁ240 million, that's three times more than the previous
00:58agreement signed in 2022, said the Financial Times.
