00:00When there's a fatality or a serious collision, I need to establish how and why are the fatals occurred.
00:10Confirm fatality.
00:14This is all quite confusing at the minute.
00:17It's the same as a murder investigation.
00:22Your story was credible until you started telling lies.
00:25When collisions are fatal...
00:27You pronounce the deceased.
00:31...or life-changing...
00:34The crash team is called in.
00:37We're dealing with the worst day of somebody's life.
00:40A split second, that's it. Everybody's life has changed.
00:43You only get one chance at a collision scene.
00:45Once that road reopened, there's no going back.
00:48Police!
00:50He knows very well what's happened here.
00:54The story doesn't stack up.
00:56Using forensic detective work.
00:58The answers are there.
00:59It's just knowing where to look for them.
01:01The tiniest detail could solve a case.
01:03And the latest technology.
01:05Technical data does not lie.
01:07Dash cam, CCTV, it's everywhere.
01:09The driver's travelling 127 miles per hour.
01:13These are the people who look for answers.
01:16That damage is possibly a deliberate act.
01:19Are you the person that has killed this pedestrian?
01:21No, I'm the man.
01:22If there's an offending driver, you want justice to be saved.
01:26The collision investigation is very much like a jigsaw puzzle.
01:44It's only at the end, when you've put the jigsaw together in its entirety, that you fully understand what's happened in a collision.
01:51If you're not passionate about the investigations we deal with, it's a really tough job to do.
01:58It's just being knocked off the bike on the 857.
02:12Is the patient breathing?
02:14Is he breathing?
02:16Is he breathing?
02:17Is he breathing?
02:18Is he breathing?
02:19He's breathing just.
02:20Only just though.
02:21Is the patient awake?
02:22No.
02:23Are you awake?
02:24He's not awake.
02:25No, he's not awake.
02:26No.
02:27Okay.
02:28Does his breathing sound noisy?
02:29He's stopped breathing.
02:31He's stopped breathing.
02:32He's stopped breathing.
02:33Okay.
02:36Right, tell me exactly what's happened.
02:38A car's come speeding up and knocked him off his bike.
02:41And he's late in the middle of the road.
02:44There's an ambulance in the queue that's just put his lights on.
02:47I think it's coming up to us.
02:49Right.
02:50Okay.
02:51The ambulance is there.
02:52Are they with the patient now?
02:53They are.
02:54Yes.
02:55Yes.
02:56They are.
02:57She's doing CPR.
02:58We're just getting a team leader coming.
02:59Okay.
03:00All right.
03:01Yeah.
03:02We're getting that sorted.
03:03Okay.
03:04Medics are fighting to save an 81 year old man hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.
03:09near sheffield as traffic officers arrive medics are fighting to save an 81 year old man hit by a
03:26car at a pedestrian crossing another closure please toddy roundabout 857 towards m1 and if
03:38we can request hard closures please at an early early stage also request forensic collision cpr still
03:43in progress yes sir it's a fail to stop RTC this the car that has hit him has made off towards toddy
04:04roundabout yeah Roger with a suspected hit-and-run South Yorkshire crash investigator Joe binley
04:18is called in from roots report of a failed stop road traffic collision which has taken place on
04:26the 857 just off of the M1 motorway the reports are they've got a seriously injured pedestrian at
04:34this time or cyclist we're not sure who has been worked on by ambulance staff potentially a golf
04:44R see if I can get your color stand back do you know what what color car it were dark blue so one
04:54apparently it's a dark blue colored golf R that's actually collided with the cyclist and then made
05:01off with a description of the suspect car control dispatches a force-wide alert
05:07there's a number of reasons why people decide not to stop at scenes of collisions sometimes it is out
05:24of fear so they've driven off because they're scared of stopping or they've not stopped on purpose and
05:29it's an intentional act on their part of not stopping because they want to flee the scene because there is
05:33something to hide from us as Joe responds there's an update from the scene so on that's like pronounced extinct at
05:501535 when people die regardless of circumstances we need to answer the questions to the family who why and how it's the same as a murder investigation
06:17yeah just confirm this is now a fatal fatality can I get the number for the coroner's please
06:25Joe will now lead a manhunt for the casualties killer that's the only two witnesses what have
06:34you seen then basically we're coming up here we were coming to a stop because we were behind this
06:40fan yeah that's been I've seen him fly up in there and that golf shooter I think golf slowed down then he
06:46shot and he went that way yeah that went up in there and then that just kept going all right that's fine
06:54we've got two witnesses who were near to the traffic lights at the time of the collision and we know that
06:58the deceased was believed crossing the road from the left-hand side into the central island it's now
07:03important for us to start working and piecing together and confirming that vehicle and trying
07:07to locate it and and the driver of that vehicle just making sure that you're aware part of that goal
07:13that you're being with the vehicle is reacted to one of my lost wayside about probably an hour ago
07:20reports of a golf are before the collision could provide key evidence for Joe dash cam CCTV so
07:40crucial to our investigations now someone's version of events can always have a spin on what happens
07:47whereas a video doesn't lie technical data does not lie yeah it will be may we think it might be
07:56this club the finding of this vehicle and the suspect is paramount importance not only for the
08:02evidence that the vehicle can give us to assist us with the investigation into the collision but also
08:06there's a risk to the public we know how the vehicles being driven from witnesses we know what it's
08:11just caused to the deceased so there's a risk to the public that it may do something of a similar
08:16nature so it's crucial that we take the vehicle get the evidence from that vehicle and identify the
08:21suspects I've not been made aware this potential job just keep an eye out on border and also I know
08:28am PR we're doing some kind of work they managed to do anything yet police are checking automatic
08:36number plate recognition cameras for the golf that fled the scene while we've been in process of
08:42securing the scene and closing the road a number plate has been found at the bottom of the A57 on
08:48the roundabout itself that number plate comes back to a golf we've now got some CCTV footage of a golf
08:57with damage to the front end of it without a front number plate going round Todwick roundabout
09:01heading in towards Kiviton Park area it's now a matter of trying to trace that vehicle to where it
09:14is its current time with forensic work underway at the scene debris in the road may also provide a vital
09:24link to the golf it's always concerning that someone has been in such involving such an incident like
09:33this one and showed disregard to you know anybody or anyone who's injured and left the scene with no
09:39reasonable reason why you would do that things do happen mistakes do get made but then to leave someone
09:47on the floor with no way around him is unacceptable with Joe and the forensic team leading the
09:55investigation the hunt is on for the cyclists killer
09:58it's three hours since an 81 year old cyclist Graham slim was fatally injured at a pedestrian crossing
10:25after being hit by a speeding blue VW golf okay so properties from this point on then Joe in terms of
10:34where we are with that CCTV footage has been found showing the car speeding away after the collision
10:42obviously we're happy that we know it's the the golf that we suspected being although on the false
10:49plates South Yorkshire collision investigator Joe Binley is leading the case and updates
10:55inspector Matt collings the footage that we've got from just after the collision at the bottom of
11:00the road we've now established the number plate which falls off it which we know is is being used
11:07on that vehicle you can just say as the vehicle tries to push its way through traffic trying to get
11:13away from the scene the number plate falling just to the line so we're satisfied that we know the
11:17vehicle as well as showing the identity of the car the CCTV reveals other key evidence when the vehicle
11:25that manages to squeeze its way onto the roundabout you get the first clear view of the damage to the
11:30front end of it see the damage to the front bumper the headlights and the wing mirror the police have
11:42intel that this car is regularly used by a pair of brothers who live in neighboring Derbyshire
11:47Derbyshire I'll crack on guys thank you everybody for coming short notice 11 hours into the hunt for the
12:07suspects Derbyshire officers working with Joe and his colleagues in South Yorkshire planned to arrest the
12:13two brothers in an early morning raid we're going to go to two addresses in Chesterfield first one where
12:21we've got confirmed information that Cain Byrne is tagging to that location now that was checked probably
12:2820 minutes ago now there's only finite amount of officers that we have available to an investigation so to
12:34have the support of another force and that the officers they bring is actually paramount to this
12:40investigation Adam can you be the arresting officer for Cain if he's located as far as I'm concerned we
12:47know he's in there so we'll just go straight and put the door in Ned can you be the arresting officer
12:51at the second dress please just be aware that both suspects have got warning markers for escape
12:58Cain has extensive history with the police from mine and motoring offenses failing to stop driving with
13:08no licenses dangerous driving and not stopping for police it's disqualified from driving and shouldn't
13:18be driving so it's time that now get processed for the full extent of the law these brother they've been
13:29about the block a long time they will do absolutely anything stop us catching them just feel unique when
13:41we pull up at the address would yourselves be able to come back for us please the crucial evidence police need to find is the
13:48blue golf yeah that's it could contain forensic proof of which brother was driving
13:55one of the brothers is on tag and he is definitely at the address according to his tag that gives us a power of entry under
14:05law to go into that address and get him multiple officers including firearms are called in for the raid
14:35police police police police is Cain in where is he upstairs can sit down there for me please look
14:48can sit down there put some clothes on Cain yeah right at this moment in time you're under arrest on suspicion
14:58of causing death by danger what what clothes we'll grab some my colleague will grab clothes for you
15:02is that your phone on the side Cain yeah that's my mum's you're where's your phone I ain't got one
15:11you took my phone a couple of days ago welcome to car with an incident like this speed and time is of
15:20the essence it takes an amount of time to get through it all in somebody's property and in that time they
15:27can be disposing the phones trying to delete evidence trying to hide or dispose of things
15:33at another address in Chesterfield a second team is closing in on the other brother
15:45yeah alright chap hey what mate you gonna come tip door cheers
15:49his come in tooth coming in now his coming in here
15:55what's called arms you under arrest on suspicion of causing death by danger to drive here
16:07really? necessary for a prompting infective investigation
16:11sort of a ferry top stairs all right they know police tactics so the reason that we needed to
16:19deal with these robustling quickly is that they will not hesitate in disposing of evidence they
16:24will not hesitate in trying to run i will get boarding up range but any issues give us a call
16:37all right with both brothers under arrest police assess the evidence found at the first address
16:44by his bed where he's located found a vw key i can't see any vw parked outside at the moment
16:52obviously it's vw involved in the incident and the kill me matched with the vehicle to see if it is
16:58same key for the vehicle
16:59the keys could be vital in linking the brothers to the hit and run car just watch your stats mate
17:19these are one of the most serious incidents the police investigate it's on the same level of a
17:24homicide investigation in this collision the suspects are a true risk to the public so it's
17:30important that we investigate it and prosecuted them to the full extent of the law to reduce that risk
17:40so i've just come to speak to the final sergeant that's enforced on this address
17:45scott arrives to oversee the investigation at the second address
17:49there is still no sign of the blue gulf
17:57be nice to get the car now no what would be nice is if one of those car keys yeah either either
18:04yours or ours because they're both feedable keys we just need one of them to open the car then
18:09i think they've got enough help it's on the hope so yeah it's got you just all you'd have is that
18:14that they've not gone so far as to burn it out or put it in a garage mentally could be enough lockup
18:19somewhere couldn't it
18:26the priority for us is not letting them get to the vehicle to burn it out destroy the evidence before
18:35we get to it and we can get our forensic teams onto it
18:38with the two brothers now in custody the clock is ticking to prove who was driving
18:50investigators scott and joe need to gather enough evidence for a charge before the suspects are released
18:59we've got the two labs but we've not got the car and we've really got that that 24 hours
19:05whilst they are in custody with us to try and locate that vehicle the first priority of continuing
19:11the tracking of that vehicle and to hopefully find it nearby so this needs to be a lead us to where
19:17it's parked up now and then we can get that vehicle recovered and look at examinations of that vehicle
19:22both mechanically and forensically for inside which will be able to place the driver and the suspect in
19:29that vehicle it's a real racing time to try and get to the vehicle before two suspects get back to it themselves
19:46hey mate how are you 24 hours after the arrest of the two brothers scott receives an update from south
19:54yorkshire they've just been interviewed um and they're gonna get bailed shortly i knew you'd say
20:01that damn i know mate i know with no trace of the vw golf officers are forced to let the men go
20:09our task is to try and find my car trying to get the word out because as of when they come out of custody
20:16they're i think their main goal is to destroy my car it's so frustrating they're gonna get bailed but
20:24evidentially what have we got i know it's always frustrating when you know you're so close to
20:29something but you're not close enough we only have a finite amount of time we can deal with someone in
20:35custody so it was decision to release them with strict bail conditions to keep an eye on them so we know where
20:41they are with the brothers out on bail the race is now on to find the missing golf
20:53that's what's going on to find out on bail the race is now on bail the race is now on bail the race
21:09crash investigator joe binley is leading a case of a hit and run collision that killed an 81 year old
21:15cyclist graham slain who was killed in this devastating collision was a man who was just
21:22about to celebrate his wedding anniversary with his wife he had a son a daughter and grandchildren
21:28and although retired was fit as we know a cyclist still had so many more years left to live and it's
21:36the family members who now have got to come to terms with the loss of graham in such devastating
21:40circumstances i met graham who 64 years ago when i was only 15 and we were cycling all the time because
21:52he was in sheffield racing club and i was in the bait and wheelers when i saw him i knew that's what i
21:59wanted we got married in 1965 and we've been together ever since so something must have worked in our favor
22:09he was very friendly i mean he could go anywhere and find somebody to talk to
22:14it was a very outgoing chattery box
22:23changed my life totally it's just such a shock just yeah just not expected at all we're expecting to
22:31have another few years together doing things making more memories but uh gone
22:38the most challenging part of the job is that we're dealing with someone's lives being cut short and
22:48lost unexpectedly no build up to it someone going about their normal daily business doing nothing
22:54wrong at all and someone else's actions has caused their death i don't know what i felt i just could
23:01have screamed really i felt so helpless you think that shouldn't have happened it should not have
23:08happened yeah never want that for tonight again no it's horrible thinking about it it's absolutely awful
23:22so where are we up to with the footage then four days after the collision there's still no sign of
23:36the suspect's car but there is a breakthrough we've done a lot of extensive tracking and we now know it
23:41goes in towards the killer marsh area joe's collected a large amount of cctv and dash cam footage showing
23:49the movements of the golf before and after the collision so we've got the full timeline now then
23:54yeah so we've got a timeline starting from 10 a.m on the morning of the collision the 4th of april
24:01the footage is vital evidence to prove which of the brothers was driving it's one thing getting the
24:07vehicle but it's trying to put that driver in the driver's seat and so we know that kane leaves his
24:13address via his tag about 10 o'clock they send some movement with the golf in the morning of the 4th
24:22through to the early afternoon before the collision where and they ended up in roderville country park
24:29and we can see into the vehicle very slightly through the sunroof of the vehicle
24:34joe's identified 20 year old kane burn the younger of the two brothers as the driver it all goes to
24:44show that it's um kane being the driver rather than his brother even though we know he's within the
24:49vehicle and we can see that they use still using the uh cloned plates on it so they've been on this
24:55vehicle all day and then they've left for a valley back in towards killer marsh it then ends up back
25:00towards the a57 where we start picking the dash cam up of the vehicle heading towards the collision site
25:07and we've then got the footage where the collisions now happened and they've continued
25:18dash cam from another car and more cctv clearly show the blue golf speeding away from the pedestrian
25:25crossing with smoke coming from it followed by the aftermath
25:38we've then got the footage where we've already looked at the number plate coming off yeah absolutely
25:43but i know it turns right and it goes towards the hearthill area and we can clearly see now at this
25:48point that the front number plate's missing we can also see the damage to the front of the car
25:52and we can also see the driver holding in his hand a yellow balloon balloons are often used to inhale
26:00nitrous oxide or laughing gas it's illegal for recreational use it wasn't just a one-off thing
26:07this was a continued use of balloons and nitrous oxide throughout the course of the day which
26:12seems to be proven which can only make your driving worse
26:16and then travels along ekington way towards the waterthorpe area then enters into waterthorpe
26:25on harwood drive and this is all post collision yeah so this is that the last bit of footage we're up
26:30to is about 28 minutes post collision and we were still working on where that vehicle then goes from
26:37that point we'll carry on with the cctv tracking and start doing street by street search to see if we can
26:43locate the vehicle cctv evidence linking the brothers to the blue golf is stacking up but police still
26:52need to find the car
27:09at the roundabout in a minute first exit it's this way it's day six of the case and the brothers are
27:16still out on bail if we've got any traffic able to assist the vehicle has been abandoned derbyshire
27:25police has received a call from a member of the public about the whereabouts of the blue golf
27:32we were on nights when we assisted our colleagues from south yorkshire police locking up some offenders
27:37for a fatal incident outstanding was a golf r police hope the car will provide crucial dna evidence
27:46linking it to the brothers ideally there's still evidence that we can get from the vehicle so it's
27:53key getting an early uh center crime officer up there joe is en route to the vehicle from sheffield
28:01along with a forensic investigator it's key to us to be able to put that vehicle to the scene cctv's
28:09brilliant and shows what we needed to show we know the registration of that vehicle and it's crucial
28:15that if it is that vehicle that we need to get there as soon as possible to secure it and to get
28:20as much evidence we can from it i imagine it's down there because there's police tape
28:33it would have been a very nice car as you can see it's got extensive damage to it it's going to be
28:50quite difficult to get any forensics because it's melted and been destroyed from obviously the fire
28:55and the water that fire service use despite the car being destroyed your cap looks like it's out
29:03does it a forensic officer arrives to photograph and collect evidence
29:08well the fact that that's been removed it was there i don't know whether they put a rag in or
29:17something because you'd have thought if that was the origin of the fire then that rubber would have
29:23gone yeah but the back the back doesn't look it's damaged does it compared to the front
29:30joe and scott are now at the scene yeah
29:33were there arrested yeah any jewelry at yeah he's got a crammed which one it's got a massive thick
29:41gold chain looks like a dog chain yeah like down to his because all we got is belt buckle right okay
29:48and they've both got like diamonds yeah
29:54though it may seem disappointing that the vehicle has been burnt out and yes we have lost some of our
29:58internal forensic work however the dents to the front passenger door the wing and the bonnet and on the
30:06roof are all very much consistent with that damage that we've seen throughout on the cctv so although
30:13we might have lost forensic evidence in terms of dna and fibre and that type of evidence and we can
30:19still say with a lot of confidence that that vehicle is the vehicle involved in that collision
30:25that'd be interesting do you reckon you get any dna anything off of this
30:31the officers spot a towing strap attached to a tree and the car because they've clearly put that
30:36on a big to stop the car rolling down with it being a rope there's been friction on it when they've
30:42been pulling it and that can also result in cellular dna being transferred onto the exhibit
30:47and hopefully we'll be able to get something from that because we've now we've got sort of two crimes
30:52someone's brought that vehicle here and someone's set fire to that vehicle so i hope that we'll be
30:57able to get something from that strap to be able to say who's moved that vehicle
31:03while the forensics officer continues to look for evidence
31:08even though it's burnt out you're still getting a bit off it then yeah joe and scott spot something else
31:16do you think it could have been dropped off on a low load of it
31:19it may point to a bigger conspiracy to cover the suspect's tracks
31:25that's perfectly positioned with the recovery truck yeah well you can see you can't you do
31:29know when the when the bed of the roller goes down it's not rolling right it it it does that doesn't
31:33it yeah it scratches all that it scratches there it's not possible that that vehicle's been there
31:40since the time of the offence so it's clearly been taken on a low loader and
31:44uh dumped at that location where it's been burnt out that's fresh fresh no that's fresh
31:48because you can see where mud is there's some scrape markings on the road which could be consistent
31:53with a bed of a truck going onto the road so again i'm going to be asking for any sort of paint
31:58transfer any marks anything like that which might have been used just so we can try and identify
32:02what's being used to move that vehicle to where it is now police think that after their release it was
32:10arranged for the gulf to be taken to its current location and torched there's been some real thought
32:17as to how to dispose of essential evidence into a fatal road traffic collision where the vehicle is
32:23at the minute i would have suspected if it would have been there since saturday people would have
32:27called us it's on a footpath it certainly looks out of place so for my eyes that has been moved this
32:33morning and being sat on fire immediately for me it's what they're going to do next yeah exactly
32:41they're not going to stop to put in prison these two idiots
32:49hopefully there's forensics opportunities on the car
32:53they've got a lot more cctv just all little pieces of the jigsaw that are coming together
32:59nicely to close the net on these two individuals the important thing for us to focus on is that
33:07there's a victim a victim family that all need justice for for what is a horrendous fail to stop
33:13incident justice is if someone is at fault then going to court and those being sentenced to the
33:20full extent of the law and being able to provide that closure to the family that
33:25someone was at fault for this collision and they have been dealt with
33:32when this all happened it was on a run that we did on a redler basis she did exactly what he
33:38should have done he got off his back he waited till traffic lights had turned red there was nothing
33:44he could have done because he didn't know that there were going to be a nutcase come past and
33:49straight through the traffic lights off his head and what my main concern at the time was was
33:59did he suffer you don't know i don't know were it instantaneous that's the only comfort i've got
34:06that he didn't know anything about it wouldn't have known anything about it it would have been a
34:10split second of apps yeah terror yeah they would i have been out on my bike since he's gone and it was
34:21so not very good because i'd never been out for a long long time without him on the back i mean we
34:32never went out even with doug we just did everything together and it's been so hard to
34:37it's been so hard
34:51police one week after 81 year old graham slinn was killed in a hit and run near sheffield
35:11they're not going to stop to put in prison these two idiots a joint investigation by south yorkshire and
35:16derbyshire police has identified kane burn as the suspected driver
35:25so obviously we suspect that it's the burns who are driving the vehicle and we're obviously working
35:30in the area where they're known to hang around and where they used to live before moving over into
35:34derbyshire area after further cctv searches there's another breakthrough in the case
35:40crash investigator joe binley updates inspector matt collings about where the golf went after the
35:47collision we found the address purely by the tcv tracking we've got it going down the first street
35:53and then going into this call the sack the cctv is crucial it's an address that's linked to the
35:58bed the address where the vehicle's been parked at is footage shows the blue golf reversing up the
36:04cul-de-sac and parking on a driveway just 15 minutes after the collision it's that first opportunity
36:11where we can see the rear number plate is the same number plate is that what was being was found on the
36:16street crucially the footage shows who was driving we see kane get out of the front driver's seat and
36:26walked around to the front of the vehicle and his first thought is he appears to be inspecting the
36:30damage to his vehicle what we do see as well is when his brother gets out of the front passing seat
36:35the door doesn't open fully because of the damage to it and then we see kane trying to rub off a mark
36:41from the roof of the vehicle with this new evidence joe and his team are confident they have enough
36:49to re-arrest the brothers
36:51okay this interview has been audio and visually recorded and may be given an evidence if your case
37:02is brought to trial 20 year old kane burn has been re-arrested for further questioning
37:0981 year old graham slinn was struck by a vw golf at 15 15 hours whilst crossing the a 57 and died at the scene
37:18we now believe that you are the driver of that vw golf in as much detail as you can please tell me
37:29about your involvement in the death of graham slinn no comment are you responsible for the death of graham slinn
37:37no comment i want to show you some cctv i will explain it as as we go through prior to the hit and run
37:48witnesses report seeing a blue golf driving at high speed through a red light witnesses described that
37:54golf traveling at speed approaching a crossing it did not slow it didn't falter
38:02they then see a male and a bike are being launched into the air the golf hits this male and sends
38:12this male at least 15 feet into the air are you aware of that no comment are you the male responsible
38:21for that no comment the cctv footage shows the cyclist lying on the ground just seconds after the
38:29collision and the blue golf speeding away the car then arrives 10 miles away at the address linked
38:41to the brothers you can see here the vw has now pulled onto the driveway
38:51do you recognize any of these people no comment are you one of those people on that cctv no comment
38:57is this male here in this blue track suit kind of inspecting some damage to the roof is that you
39:05no comment
39:08the damage is from the collision with the cyclist
39:14covering this car up is that something that would normally be done or is this only being done
39:19because of what has just happened no comment police suspect that soon after covering the car up it was
39:29taken away and hidden have you got anything you want to say about those clips of footage that you've now
39:34seen no comment further cctv reveals more evidence it shows the plates being changed the morning before the
39:43hit and run typically this is done to hide criminal activity
39:51and other footage appears to show the driver inhaling laughing gas from a balloon immediately before and
39:58after the collision you can clearly see that um the males that you're present with
40:07are inhaling balloons police suspect kane was inhaling laughing gas a powerful drug
40:16do nitrous oxide balloons do they have any impact on you no comment is it appropriate to use them
40:23whilst driving a vehicle no comment
40:25having not passed a driving test would you consider yourself capable to drive a car no comment have you
40:35received any training at all to drive a car no comment the victim's family pay a tribute
40:43they describe graham as a husband a dad and a granddad and his family describe him as a gentle
40:53funny and kind to his core how does it make you feel hearing that about graham no comment are you the person
41:08that's killed graham slim no comment
41:22you
41:28eight days after killing 81 year old graham slim kane burn is charged with causing death by dangerous driving
41:37it's the selfishness i can't get over the only thing that is important to them is not being caught
41:45they've seemingly got no care or responsibility for anybody else that they hurt
41:56there's always a feeling of what else could we have done with investigations i always operate on the
42:01would i be happy if that was a family member of mine who had been killed would i be happy with how the
42:06investigation was run would i be satisfied that all the lines of inquiry is being completed
42:11and that's how i run my investigations
42:13at court kane burn pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving driving whilst disqualified and
42:29with no insurance
42:33the passenger faced no charges in relation to this incident
42:39one of the most important investigation we'll ever look into is how someone's died
42:43they're not just the thing that's someone's loved one
42:46it's my investigation i'll always deal with it the best of my abilities but
42:49i will never feel the same way that the family feels about the loss of graham
42:56graham slinn's family was in court to see kane burns sentenced to prison
43:03he's got a sentence of 16 and a half years with 11 and a half years behind bars and he won't be able
43:10to even apply for parole for at least seven years
43:15it seems harsh because he's only 21 but he's been given chance after chance after chance
43:26at some point you have to face the consequences and now that's that time is now
43:36when i go to church i light a candle for graham and at the same time i pray for him
43:46and i know some people probably won't understand but i pray for that
43:50young chap as well because he is only a young chap and i pray for his children because he's got two
43:55children what sort of life have they've got with his dad in prison you can only hope that it will
44:03change his behavior and come to realize that what he has done is wrong and he didn't need to do that
44:15he's gone in a puff of wind
44:28so
44:54you
