00:00the build for off-road adventure ride is charging towards its epic finale after battling the brutal
00:12trails of Johnson Valley we point our rigs east and set our sights on Kingman Arizona the journey
00:19includes a special stop at the Route 66 Museum for a one-of-a-kind Jeeps and Java gathering
00:27followed by a run through Moss Wash where a hidden mansion waits for us deep in the mountainous
00:33terrain from there it's full throttle onto the adventure ride finish line the annual SEMA show
00:40in Las Vegas all right so day three build for off-road adventure we are at backdoor in Johnson
00:48Valley and I'm with Brad level who is with us all week and this you understand this as well don't
00:53you yeah absolutely we've gone up in the race we've come down in the race and there's always
00:56drama since you've been on it so often what's what's the level line well the level line during
01:02the race is winch it yeah when we're out here having fun I think the idea is get your driver's
01:06side tire kind of in the crack skirt around this boulder here and crawl the front up slap the rear
01:10end and then you know if it starts coming around to the left get off the throttle back down before
01:15bad things happen try it again because you we don't want to be this way we want to be this way right
01:18all right yeah if we if we go over here you know it's not that bad maybe you can back off but it's
01:23pretty much a one-shot slap the rear end and go yeah it's gonna be a one-shot make it or don't make
01:27it yeah that's my plan at least attempt number one on backdoor this is one of the toughest obstacles
01:39on the west coast a near vertical waterfall ledge pushing eight feet tall my only goal simple keep the
01:48tires on the ground there are a few different lines up back door but I decided to commit to the line
01:54that Brad and I had talked about earlier spirit around this boulder here and crawl the front out
01:59slot the rear end it's possibly the most popular way to do it after a couple attempts it was clear this
02:08obstacle doesn't reward hesitation it's all gas or nothing next up was Adam Lovell in the Amsoil
02:26Race 4 Ranger he leaned on the advice of his Hall of Fame off-road legend father Brad carefully choosing
02:34his line Adam wasn't shy with the throttle but the brutal climb pushed the rig hard temps started to
02:41climb and it looked like they got a little air bubble in the radiator line so he made the smart call to
02:46back off park it for a minute and let it cool down but Adam he's not done yet then it was Nate's turn in
02:56his power stop equipped diesel samurai while most drivers attack backdoor with speed Nate went the
03:03opposite route slow crawl at first the big tires just dug into the dirt spinning and heating up against
03:11the rock add a little bit more boost and suddenly the samurai found traction inch by inch Nate crawled his
03:24way right up over the ledge three different rigs three different strategies man when we saw your
03:32rig going big cogs turning you look like you were so excited almost like a little nervous when you
03:38stepped out of that truck bro oh yeah I had the jitters big time it's it's been a long time since I've
03:43gotten that much adrenaline on an obstacle but it wasn't necessarily too scary I just wanted it so bad yeah I
03:49just really wanted it because I've been eyeing this for 10 years and now I finally got tires on
03:54it and finally made it up I've never seen anybody crawling Bobby did a great job spotting me once we
03:59got the tires just on the right spot we were able to let it crawl up which is so rare congratulations
04:04dude that nurses feels good to get out of the system oh dude absolutely I'm gonna sleep like a baby
04:08tonight riding with Ian was an amazing experience obviously that dude is super talented super experienced
04:15and so I got my adrenaline fix for the week for sure there's a couple sticky situations that were
04:20pretty exciting and thank God Ian was my driver for those now it was Pierre's turn to take on backdoor
04:27strapped into his own duplicolor buggy for this run all week long he'd proven this rig could pretty
04:33much go anywhere and handle any rock I stepped in to help spot him up the rock guiding him through one of
04:40the nasty setups on the trip you want the back end to like bounce over there to crawl if you come this
04:53way shut it down back up but that's the spot right there stay a little bit driver and then because what
05:05we're trying to do is to get that tire to catch into this notch right here that's where but the
05:10problem is is your right tire is hitting that side it's throwing you off Pierre had to fight his way
05:15out of the massive hole left behind by the rigs before him once he found the right wheel speed and nailed
05:21the bounce everything click Sacrebleu Très bien Pierre next up it was the carbon off-road guys
05:40they came so close to clearing the obstacle
05:44but the big jeep just ran out of steam no shame here this obstacle is no joke they broke out the
05:56carbon off-road winch pulled themselves up over the ledge and joined the rest of the crew on top
06:01then came Adam back for another shot after watching who made it and who didn't he dialed in a smarter
06:10more aggressive line this time he committed letting the buggy do exactly what it was built for the
06:17rig screamed up and over the obstacle clean and easy so you made it up and you were very excited about
06:26it I was that's a big deal I've put the truck up there but it's been about a decade so really proud
06:31of you thank you ordinarily I'm billed for off-road Pierre is not allowed to speak but today I got with
06:37the producers we've got an exception because you've earned it today dude congratulations on that
06:42you conquered the back door yeah and everything else dude like a champ yeah I've been looking
06:46forward to getting out to these trails for a long time so getting to hit them and actually make them
06:50with Ian and with Brad is if I told 15 year old me I'd be doing this he'd slap himself just steps away
06:56from the backdoor obstacle Jimmy and the crew from Dometic we're back in action rolling out their Ford
07:02overland pickups and firing up the grills it was a game-changer to be able to wash our hands in the
07:09desert with the hydration station before we hit the road again pointing our rigs towards Kingman Arizona
07:15day four build for off-road adventure we are now in Kingman Arizona and today we're kicking things
07:37off a little bit different I love a good meet and greet in the morning so we're gonna roll on down
07:42to the Route 66 Museum here in Kingman we're gonna post up all of our rigs so everyone can come look
07:48at them sponsors have a bunch of goodie bags they're gonna hand out we've even got some t-shirts
07:52to give away to some fans we're gonna do that in the morning and then this afternoon we're gonna hit
07:56a trail today's trail Moss Wash it's not that difficult of a trail it's pretty scenic it's pretty
08:02nice it is rated 7 on the Onyx off-road apps that means it is one of the harder trails in the area
08:08but the reason we're doing it is because of some pretty cool gold mining history
08:17it was about a four-hour drive from Johnson Valley to Kingman Arizona and now keep in mind we're in a
08:23big SUV with ice-cold AC it hasn't always been like that and that's one of the cool things about this
08:29museum it shows you really what people went through and it tells a lot of stories about the exploration
08:34out here towards the west specifically on Route 66 and the things that everybody had to deal with
08:39and there's a lot of cool displays like this like that would have been a vehicle you know that they
08:42would have used years and years ago if you come to this museum it's all about Route 66 and all the
08:48cool stuff over the years of exploration and it's a great place for me to spend a little bit of time and
08:53really learn some stuff it's like a car show broke out all of a sudden this is the Jeeps and Java event
09:02it's cool we brought all our rigs in even the Aussies are here Johnny's here everybody's having a good
09:07time a bunch of locals brought their Jeeps in everybody's socializing and you know who gets
09:12to do what I get to work on vehicles but I'm okay with that because we're doing something cool
09:16we're going to put a pedal commander on the revolution gear and axle Jeep pedal commander is
09:20really cool it's most of you are familiar with it but if you're not there's four modes right
09:24so you got eco city sport and sport plus within each mode you've got nine different levels of
09:30adjustability and we're talking about throttle response just what is it going to be slow or is
09:34it going to be instant you've got 36 different levels to where you can customize it to whatever
09:38you're doing in the vehicle the thing I want to do today is I want to test this on off-road
09:43applications traction is the name of the game they don't want to spin the tires you spin the tires you
09:48lose traction you slide off of things bad things happen we want to keep these guys going and I know
09:53they don't want to bang these vehicles up so we're gonna put it in eco mode and dial it way down and
09:58you just do that from the little controller it takes seconds you know so you simply unplug the
10:02plug under the gas pedal and then this just tethers right in and you run this little controller up to
10:07wherever it's comfortable and then they can just do it with their thumb they can control all of it you
10:11can also do it with the app on your phone if you're one of those guys that likes to use your phone to
10:15control everything we'll put it in eco mode and see how it does on the rocks I'm looking forward to
10:20that we got Steve here from Pete performance and I gotta tell you man this has been exciting
10:26oh it has been all right what'd you think give me a summary in your opinion of Johnson's Valley
10:30what'd you think of it unbelievable uh you see all the trails that people do during King of the
10:34Hammers and stuff like that but actually going up and doing them firsthand and seeing how big those
10:38rocks are and all the obstacles that everyone's got to go does not you hit this all the time it
10:42doesn't do it justice we walk up the back door and the ledge is that tall and photos it looks like
10:47it's that big and why can't anyone make it but you know super cool to see everyone go attempted and see
10:51everyone that actually got up it just super impressive or the guys that just you know that
10:56tried it and didn't get up it that's okay a little shout out to us we're going really slow through all
11:00these rocks so having the right coolant for these vehicles is really important overheating is really
11:04common especially in a lot of the older jeeps so making sure the proper coolants in there on the
11:09OET side of stuff making sure that it's the right additive package for the engine that's in the
11:12vehicles just to make sure that they stay cool on the trail with blue death we all have to get these
11:16vehicles out there somehow make sure that your tow vehicle is good that it's not going into lint
11:21mode blue death's triple filtered it's guaranteed pure so you know that you're putting the best
11:25stuff in your truck to make sure that you can go out to these trails be able to go out and enjoy
11:29it so we're gonna pack up here in a little bit we're heading up the moss wash trail have you heard
11:33about the mansion i have all right super excited to see it and the fun continues we have a boy
11:40matt here from eton i gotta tell you so these guys have been part of us since day one what'd you
11:44think of day one oh it was great it was great yeah it's always a good time man luckily the weather
11:50was awesome couldn't ask for anything better uh luckily the rain didn't wash away a lot of the
11:53stuff so still a lot of obstacles there i had a lot of fun with these guys yeah it was great
11:58this thing's a nasty rig what you got done here uh well it's got our e-lockers in it it's got
12:01revolution gears in it okay it's got a few other upgrades as you could tell winches bumpers a little
12:06bit of a lift and things like that uh but i put those e-lockers in the front of my rig those things
12:10are sweet are you excited about today oh it's gonna be great yeah today it's old mining roads exactly
12:15historical routes it's gonna be awesome day four of the build for off-road adventure ride
12:36and we're deep into one of the most incredible landscapes in the southeast we've just dropped
12:42into the moss wash trail in the woolipi mountains just outside kingman arizona this trail it's rated
12:49a 7 out of 10 on the onyx off-road map moss wash dishes out deep washouts punishing rock sections
12:57and steep technical climbs that demand focus from start to finish this turned out to be the toughest
13:05section of the moss wash trail a massive boulder bypass that i tried to squeeze through
13:11and it locked me in hard i was completely stuck i broke the rock it's falling down it's wedged me
13:18in here i can't go anywhere luckily i got this little magic thing on the front of the jeep called
13:23a winch from my good friends at carbon off-road we're gonna figure out if maybe we can winch
13:27ourselves out of this we hooked up my front winch to a huge rock and pulled straight but it still
13:32wasn't enough the earth wants all this metal back i think that's when it became clear that we needed a
13:38second winch to swing the rig around the corner with both winches working in tandem the rig finally
13:45broke free and clawed its way up
13:47pierre made it look effortless smooth controlled right up through the obstacles
13:58earning a well-deserved round of applause when he came out the other side
14:06before we head up to the mansion matt caught up with brooke in the revolution gear jeep to see if the pedal
14:14commander we installed earlier at the route 66 museum was making a difference out here on the
14:19trip so it's been a couple hours since i installed the pedal commander back at the jeeps and java
14:23thing a little bit earlier today i've been looking forward to catching up with you again to see
14:26you know how you like it well you know coming out of the parking lot i had to put it on sport plus
14:30and four and see how it went of course you didn't even in city mode it had a little extra pep so
14:34that's what i'm using out here on the trail get a little bit extra bump up the rocks i love it
14:37okay so are you you're not dialed all the way down then you're no kind of in the middle on that
14:41yeah sport plus seemed to be a little much you don't want sport plus when you're trying to
14:45climb up and down the rocks at all no
14:47the gold king mansion built in early 1929 was designed to impress it served as a place
14:59to entertain wealthy investors and as housing for the foreman of the nearby gold king mine
15:05constructed from reinforced concrete the mansion features thick walls arched windows and upscaled
15:13details rarely seen in mining camps of the era its time however was short-lived less than a year after
15:20it was built the gold king mine failed a direct casualty of the october 29 stock market crash leaving
15:28the mansion frozen in time as a striking reminder of boom and bust in the world of mining
15:34so we're here at the gold mansion and this is kind of the end of our trail so you took a walk
15:39through it what do you think it's kind of got some weird vibes right a little haunted vibes a little
15:44i think you had mentioned like world war ii france maybe italy how are the revolution uh gear and axle
15:50jeeps doing i think they're doing great yeah and i'm happy with uh willie b cj yeah because it's got a
15:55lot of our product down there and he's had a couple pickles along the way just this power steering return
16:01got hot it it blew a seam in it not with our product so there we go that's always a good thing
16:06we got a little bit more trail to run and then back to town it's last day of the build for off-road
16:12adventure ride headed over closer to a place called bullhead city now over there there's another trail
16:17that i scouted out using onyx off-road it's called sleeping princess the crew is knocking out some quick
16:23parking lot prep before we hit the road bill's loading up the dometic coolers with waters and snacks i'm
16:28going to top up my rig with some peak antifreeze to keep everything running cool as the temperatures
16:33climb and to wrap it up pierre breaks out the dupli color wheel coating touching up the battle
16:38scars on the beadlock wheels and getting the rig looking fresh for the final day of wheeling there are
16:45two ways to run this trail and today we are technically running it backwards the goal today enjoy the views
16:53conquer the rocks and if all goes to plan keep trail repairs to a minimum
17:02we've had a lot of issues out here a lot of breakage this week with power steering lines a lot
17:07of just drive shafts and all this at the other but one thing we haven't had a problem with is the crown
17:12performance brake lines a lot of guys are out here running those and we haven't had any issues with
17:16those this week dude so next we roll into the final and toughest section of the sleeping princess trail
17:23hell's half mile yeah then we'll pack up load out and point everything towards las vegas nevada and the
17:31start of this year's sema show the finish line for an unforgettable build for off-road adventure
17:46of the sleeping princess trail hell's half mile the trail immediately turns tougher this is where the
18:03big rock ledges show up and the terrain really bears its teeth
18:21one of my favorite things about these types of trips is how everybody comes together and turns into
18:25like a well-oiled machine you know if somebody doesn't have power steering fluid they ask around
18:29they find the power steering fluid it's been awesome to see the group come together i think
18:34a lot of us have made friends that we'll continue to talk to after this what were some of your
18:38highlights what were some of your favorite parts out here i always like meeting new people and finding
18:42out their background you're riding in the bed of my truck and find out that uh oh that's the guy
18:47that owns trucks gone wild and it brought like memories back from nearly 20 years ago special thanks
18:52to ian for having me out and being able to carry you know as a support vehicle and you and some of the
18:57other camera people and i'm very grateful to be a part of the off-road community the winching that
19:02we saw this week was a really great example of having a winch on your vehicle can actually provide
19:08in terms of capability when you're out here you're super remote and get into some pretty tricky
19:13situations that you might not foresee you did not back down from a single obstacle and man without you
19:18guys it would have been a rough week thank you so much for coming along i was really looking forward to
19:23this adventure ride coming out here but it ended up being a heck of a lot more fun than i thought
19:27all the miles we did in jv all the different places that we've seen and a great team an excuse
19:32to get out and see some of these places that we've never seen before awesome week great time all the
19:37trails that we got to do and really iconic spots things i've only seen on tv things like back door
19:42when i went over back door i've only seen that on tv getting over at the end that was amazing super
19:48cool week super cool people to be around here i'm really really grateful it's cool to come out here in
19:53our daily drivers and run with big buggies there's some challenging trails out here didn't know where
19:57we're gonna get into but some awesome rock gardens to climb through and just had a blast you know you
20:01have buggies you have just insanely built tjs and ours are a little bit more kind of in between with
20:07daily driving but they're still very capable of some of these pretty intense trails us being a gear
20:13company we kind of just have a little bit different thought process of maybe what line to take on a trail
20:18minor things here and there but everyone came out unscathed we didn't have a single breakage of our product
20:22which is always a good thing when you're out here the community of wheelers is like the community
20:27of racers if you break or something happens they're gonna do everything they can to make sure you're
20:34okay because they want to see you in staging lane or they want to see you on the trail the difficult
20:39thing here is getting through the trails and challenges and we were able to do that so i thought
20:43it was great i'm ready to do it again man i'm ready for adventure ride part three
20:46and that wraps up our time in the dirt at sleeping princess outside kingman arizona now it's time
20:56to load up point the rigs towards las vegas for the annual sema show most of the vehicles showing up
21:02to the sema show will be spotless ours will not still wearing every mile of dirt from the trail you're
21:10used to the mud truck big truck kind of life how was it living the rock crawler kind of life i dug it man
21:16you know what what i like about it is is people's passion it doesn't have to be anything that i even
21:21know about but if it's full of passionate people i just sit back and watch them and it's infectious
21:25you you become a fan of it so it was really cool man and the guys were awesome awesome that is a wrap
21:31on this year's adventure ride we'll see you guys on the next adventure ride coming again i hope so dude
21:38i'll do that every year
