00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30Hello, 25 goals tonight on a busy match of the day.
00:00:54Seven games from Saturday and one from Friday night.
00:00:57Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy are raring to go.
00:01:00They've watched every second of it.
00:01:02League leaders Arsenal booked their place in the League Cup final this week with victory
00:01:06over Chelsea.
00:01:07Visitors Sunderland have never won away at Arsenal in the Premier League.
00:01:11Commentary comes from Robin Cowan.
00:01:14Arsenal still fighting on four fronts, but the Premier League remains the competition
00:01:18they covet the most.
00:01:19It's been 22 years since the Gunners held the title.
00:01:23The supporters' understandable anxiety will only be relieved with victory this afternoon,
00:01:28for another few days at least.
00:01:30It's two changes from last weekend's win over Leeds.
00:01:33Calafiore comes in at left back.
00:01:35Gabriel Jesus makes just his second Premier League start of the season.
00:01:39Kai Havertz keeps his place as an attacking midfielder.
00:01:42He scored two in his last three games, including the winner that sealed Arsenal's place in the
00:01:47League Cup final.
00:01:48Sunderland keep the same eleven that beat Burnley.
00:01:50Brian Brobby has three goals in his last six.
00:01:53He got the last-minute equaliser against the Gunners at the Stadium of Light in November.
00:01:57That preserved their unbeaten home record, one that still stands today.
00:02:01A new initiative has been launched this season, Premier League with pride.
00:02:06This is the first weekend dedicated to celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ plus community,
00:02:11as well as highlighting the work that still needs to be done to make football fully inclusive.
00:02:16So no win ever in the Premier League for Sunderland against Arsenal.
00:02:22Their last victory against Arsenal in any competition came all the way back in February 2012
00:02:27in the FA Cup at the Stadium of Light.
00:02:29Mikel Arteta was in the Arsenal starting eleven that day.
00:02:37Trossard manages to get the cross in, it's an early opportunity!
00:02:42Trossard managing to dig out the cross.
00:02:47You've got to say Kai Havertz should be getting that on target at the very least.
00:02:53Accused of being slightly wasteful at times, Arsenal sometimes forgets that they start the weekend six points clear
00:02:59at the top of the Premier League.
00:03:05The foul is eventually given.
00:03:07Late from Calafiore.
00:03:19David Royer hasn't claimed it and Brobby!
00:03:21That shot was on target.
00:03:23Kai Havertz has had Arsenal's best opportunity in front of goal.
00:03:27He's managed to keep Sunderland's best opportunity out of his own nets here.
00:03:31Sunderland's captain Granit Xhaka denied a reunion on the pitch today against his former club due to an ankle injury.
00:03:40Here is Landreau Trossard.
00:03:43Rice!
00:03:52Robin Roos looks fairly confident that this was flying wide.
00:03:56Didn't quite get enough curl on it, Declan Rice.
00:03:58Buffet.
00:03:59Brobby.
00:04:00Zubamendi has stayed down.
00:04:01The referee took quite some time to decide that was a foul, and not only that, he's going to give a yellow card for Brian Brobby.
00:04:10The on-field decision is confirmed.
00:04:26A natural motion in the foot.
00:04:31Zubamendi.
00:04:32Calafiore.
00:04:33Now Trossard.
00:04:34Sets it!
00:04:35Oh, it's there!
00:04:36A beautiful strike!
00:04:37Martin Zubamendi fires the gunners into the lead!
00:04:41Wonderful play from Trossard, a perfect set for him, crying out to be hit by Zubamendi.
00:05:01Oh, cuts across it beautifully, in off the post.
00:05:06Sweet and true from Zubamendi.
00:05:09His sixth goal of the season.
00:05:18Robby wins the header.
00:05:20Trossard finds Havertz.
00:05:23Through for Gabriel Jesus!
00:05:25The flag has stayed down!
00:05:26It's Jesus!
00:05:28He's brought down, surely penalty!
00:05:33The flag is up.
00:05:35Gabriel Jesus might be offside.
00:05:38Now, is he still in his own half?
00:05:41I think he's just about offside.
00:05:45Really not by much.
00:05:48Opportunity from the penalty spot is going to be taken away from Arsenal.
00:05:56Trossard leading the charge once again.
00:05:58Declan Rice was an option and said it's the reverse ball for Calafiore.
00:06:05And he's giving it away to Robby.
00:06:07And there's an overload on the right for Sunderland.
00:06:10This could spell danger.
00:06:12It's Diara.
00:06:17Very difficult chance from that sort of position.
00:06:19And now Sunderland.
00:06:20And now Sunderland.
00:06:21A little light.
00:06:24Havertz on the charge.
00:06:28It's Havertz!
00:06:32He missed a very good chance early on in this game.
00:06:36No one in a blue shirt was engaging.
00:06:39It opened up really nicely for him.
00:06:40And sends it wide.
00:06:41Now Hume.
00:06:42Le Fay.
00:06:43Broby.
00:06:45Oh, David Reier!
00:06:46Forced into a stop.
00:06:47It was Talby with the effort.
00:06:48Hume in the way.
00:06:49The scampering Trossard.
00:06:50It's towards Broby.
00:06:51Great ball in.
00:06:52Really well worked.
00:06:53Bouncing the ball off each other.
00:06:54Siddiqui knew there wasn't a clear path to goal.
00:06:55He has a grip on the left.
00:06:56He's a good goal.
00:06:57And he's a good goal.
00:06:58And his拍子 said to D'Orland.
00:06:59And so he's put it on the left.
00:07:00And he said, we've got a really good point for that.
00:07:01It's a good point for him.
00:07:02It was Traulberg.
00:07:03It was Traulbers.
00:07:04It was Traulber.
00:07:05And he's putting the good point for the one.
00:07:06So you can see the first ball.
00:07:07And the first ball, he's putting it on.
00:07:08To this ball.
00:07:09And then he's putting it on.
00:07:10A big pass on the left.
00:07:11And he's getting ready for the other.
00:07:12A big pass, he's looking for a grip around.
00:07:13great ball in really well worked bouncing the ball off each other Siddiqui knew
00:07:20there wasn't a clear path to goal Talbi took it Raya spilt it but no one in a
00:07:26blue shirt to follow up Niall Quinn a guest at the Emirates to observe two out
00:07:35of the three clubs who represented at senior level with distinction
00:07:41nice idea towards Havertz and Kiele cuts that ball out
00:07:48gives it straight back to Leandro Trossard now Havertz, Jokeres
00:07:57and that should be that
00:08:01Arsenal were patient winning it back high up the pitch pinning Sunderland in
00:08:08Trossard again at the heart of it Havertz finding Jokeres on the stretch as he
00:08:17slipped finding the back of the net they all count and this one means that those
00:08:22Arsenal supporters can rest a little easy now Arsenal two Sunderland nil
00:08:27Ballard couldn't take it down or Ranildo stuttered and Arsenal are in here it's Martinelli Jokeres
00:08:41at the double rounds off a very productive afternoon for Arsenal it was a tired ball in
00:08:53all guards clearance fell to Martinelli Reynaldo didn't know whether to stick or twist
00:08:59and Gabriel Martinelli playing in Jokeres unselfish to tee up his teammate
00:09:07routine comfortable very few moments of jeopardy from an Arsenal perspective
00:09:15exactly what was required playing every three days we just played a huge semi-final
00:09:21here a few days ago and and to go again in that manner with our commitment every
00:09:26single player it's just great to watch and and the other thing is is the
00:09:31quality that we can bring and the intensity and how prepared the players are
00:09:35to go on and impact the game I think we showed character and personality in with and
00:09:40move out the ball and we I think we even were dominant the beginning of second
00:09:44half with a couple of opportunities we didn't see those opportunities and we if
00:09:49we don't catch those ones I think the game is over the result helps when we're
00:09:541-0 up and they try to chase a equalizer and then yeah it was of course nice to take
00:10:02the chances and to help the team so it's a good Saturday today we saw the lineup I told
00:10:07him you're gonna come in you're gonna have a big impact in the game and he was
00:10:11ready for it and that's a joy because that means that we can change the game
00:10:15in different ways and this has only made the difference when they come on well
00:10:19they're enjoying a lot at the Emirates this is Arsenal's home record and no
00:10:23surprise that the team who are top of the table do have the best home record
00:10:27but when you look at what that's built on that incredible defense is there as
00:10:30well with seven clean sheets and an XG of less than eight across their home game so
00:10:35far this season this looked like another comfortable victory for them Alan what
00:10:39did you make of the performance I thought they were very professional
00:10:41without being brilliant and also using their squad strength really really well
00:10:47in terms of the subs that they they brought on they had a couple of players
00:10:51out into but I thought Sunderland did really well and caused some problems for
00:10:55for Arsenal and frustrated them at times that should have been in the back of the
00:10:59neck there with a mistake from Raya probably should have put it in but this is
00:11:04what Sunderland did really well I thought they got men behind the ball and
00:11:07at times they frustrated Arsenal and made it very difficult for them and as I
00:11:12said could have scored one or two them themselves and it took a summer signing
00:11:16that cost 60 million it took a piece of brilliance because Sunderland again they
00:11:21had that many men behind the ball that that's what it was gonna take just
00:11:25something to unlock that defense and it was it was it was a brilliant strike from
00:11:29Zubomendi but again you can see the yeah that the numbers behind and then all
00:11:34of a sudden I said using their squad strength they bring on Jokeres they
00:11:38bring on Martinelli they've got no Saka who's out injured or Odgaard who's who's
00:11:42out injured and the same thing again they've got men behind the ball and
00:11:45Sunderland were always in this game they were always in it and making it
00:11:49difficult for them but then the clearance doesn't work them find themselves in a
00:11:52good position Jokeres comes on he gets his first goal there and then the ball
00:11:57comes into the box and then another substitute plays a huge part in the goal
00:12:01in in in Martinelli it's a game Arsenal had to win but as I said there was
00:12:06nothing spectacular about them but they were very very professional and he puts
00:12:11it on the plate for Jokeres and there was no coming back from there from that
00:12:14so and that is three big big big points for for Arsenal you can see Jokeres there
00:12:19most goals in all competitions in 2026 so the goals are starting to flow for him as
00:12:25well but they've got so many options yeah so many attacking options for for
00:12:29Arsenal and as Alan said it's a really big three points that takes them nine
00:12:32clear of Manchester City you've still got the game at Anfield against Liverpool to
00:12:36come this weekend but anybody waiting for these Arsenal nerves to kick in is
00:12:41having a longer and longer wait Danny yeah well it's a must win for City but
00:12:44you have to say since they lost to United Arsenal they've won four on the spin in
00:12:48all comps yeah they're in a League Cup final they finished top of the
00:12:51Champions League group doesn't look like a side that's nervous we've got good
00:12:55competition for places they can win games when they don't play very well
00:12:58they're the best team at the moment and then they if they if City don't win
00:13:01tomorrow you've got to say it's game over I think I'm from looking nervous that
00:13:07they almost composed Alan no but I think there's so many people waiting for a
00:13:11slip-up that when you see a performance like that today and that that's fine they
00:13:15don't have to be brilliant every game they just have to find ways to win games and
00:13:19they've done that today so there's nothing from I don't think from their
00:13:21side there's no panic at all and no set plays today yes every goal came from open
00:13:26play as well for Arsenal and Manchester United were looking to make it four wins
00:13:30in a row under Michael Carrick they faced a Spurs side that had gone six
00:13:34Premier League games without a win commentary comes from Guy Mowbray on behalf of their
00:13:40clubs Michael Carrick and Thomas Frank lead the commemorations for the Munich air
00:13:45disaster which happened 68 years ago yesterday claiming the lives of 23
00:13:50people including 11 Manchester United players and staff it is the foundation
00:13:56for everything this football club became and is today
00:14:03the United team is the same one that started against Fulham last Sunday and that
00:14:08means a 100th appearance in the Premier League for a rejuvenated Casemiro for Spurs
00:14:14three changes from their proper game of two halves against Manchester City Mickey
00:14:18van der Ven returns after injury and starts two for Papp Matassar and Wilson
00:14:22Odubair Dragasin Bissouma and Colin Mouane all dropped to the bench
00:14:29it's a lively enough game down in North London when these sides came together in
00:14:34early November 2-2 and it all happened late in that one as well it could happen early for
00:14:41Manchester United today with Bruno Fernandes leading the charge and finding Embermo
00:14:45who couldn't find the net but it certainly laid down a marker for the rest of the early afternoon
00:14:53and Embermo just got his head down and hit it hope for the best
00:14:57Embermo of course today up against his old boss Thomas Frank
00:15:01Simmonds
00:15:06That was Gallagher trying to sweep it past Lammens it's a good opportunity
00:15:15Lammens was ready for it and he didn't really connect with it
00:15:18Coolhead Carrick feet on the ground let's not get carried away was his message this week
00:15:25and perhaps as much if not more than anybody he's mindful of the fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
00:15:29had a terrific start as Manchester United boss as well
00:15:34Dalot to Cunha
00:15:36I think Vicario had a feeling it was going wide lovely first-time effort though
00:15:46it was the referee's view of Mateus Cunha's bending effort it wasn't far away from giving United the lead
00:15:55Bruno Fernandes on the run missed by Romero
00:16:00he was ready for whatever Cunha was trying to do Romero then goes into Casemiro both players hurt
00:16:08and it's a red card for Cristian Romero
00:16:11Casemiro is down and stayed down
00:16:15Romero goes again for the sixth time in his Spurs career
00:16:21Casemiro was getting there Romero was getting there come what may he took everything but look at that challenge
00:16:30there isn't a video assistant referee in the world who'd overturned that
00:16:34and you just wonder what's going on in that head he's had so much to say this week he's brought so
00:16:39much attention on himself and then he does that and that's the Tottenham Hotspur captain
00:16:46it has to be different when you wear the armband
00:16:50what was it Thomas Frank said after that roller coaster game against Manchester City last week
00:16:55I prefer it going more smooth but this is football
00:16:59it's out again Thomas
00:17:02Martinez
00:17:05nice taken turn from Cunha
00:17:07Siemens had read the pass good challenge from Cunha
00:17:10I think that was deflected it was it's going to be a corner
00:17:13Bruno Fernandes once again not hanging around in his ambitions to
00:17:20beat Vicario
00:17:23Bruno Fernandes with a flat one to Menuh here's Embermo
00:17:28brilliantly worked
00:17:31and passed into the corner by Brian Embermo
00:17:36Embermo into double figures of goals as he united forward
00:17:39Menuh made the move nobody went with him
00:17:43how about this though for a slot from Embermo
00:17:47if it was fully intended did he catch it as he wanted to
00:17:51oh let's not quibble about it I think he did
00:17:55tucked in
00:17:56Michael Carrick's plan comes together it's Manchester United won Tottenham Hotspur nil
00:18:05with a whole lot of reorganizing to do
00:18:07and we can only presume that he said something inspiring and made
00:18:11some really useful changes last weekend he's going to have to do it again
00:18:15there's Cunha
00:18:17turned behind by Palina
00:18:19by the time Frank does give those words at the interval it's imperative for Spurs
00:18:23that the gap's only still one
00:18:26Embermo goal scorer now corner taker
00:18:34soon to be crosser
00:18:36that's Casimiro and it's tipped over the top by Vicario
00:18:42mightily close to two
00:18:44sure
00:18:56that was a risky one a curious one here's Xavi Simmonds
00:19:03must have been close judging by his reaction it's a proper good go that
00:19:08Thomas Frank is a non-stop bundle of energy and instructions
00:19:16Casimiro
00:19:18now Luke Shaw there'll be cries of shoot and he does
00:19:26let's see how much this was moving in the air
00:19:30looking at the way that Vicario contorted his body to save it
00:19:33I'd say plenty certainly traveled
00:19:37now a United corner
00:19:40Vicario stays back Maguire trying to hold his ground he's claimed that he was being fouled
00:19:48here's Dalot he's gonna have a crack another one repelled by Vicario
00:19:54both Manchester United full backs have their eyes on the jackpot
00:19:57this is what Maguire was asking about well he's got a case hasn't he
00:20:04Van de Ven just wrapped his arm around no sense of challenging for the ball play went on for
00:20:09Dalot to try that well watched by Vicario who's been busy and might only get busier before the afternoon is out
00:20:17he may well have sealed it really nicely finished and I think the game is as well
00:20:37it's a really tough one for the Manchester United captain because it came over Shesko and two Spurs
00:20:43defenders who you might have thought one of them would have got it and Bruno Fernandes kind of caresses
00:20:50the ball with his shin I think he knew how that was going to arrive and got the contact he needed
00:20:57it's the goal that Manchester United have needed for quite a while it's 2-0
00:21:01Vissouma
00:21:11up towards Ahmad Ahmad has Bruno Fernandes with him and will try and time the pass to his captain
00:21:19Shesko's in the box unmarked oh had to score it's the last touch of the game and it really should have
00:21:27finished 3-0 to Manchester United instead of the two that it is it won't take any of the shine away
00:21:35for Michael Carrick though the former Spurs man who became a fully-fledged Old Trafford stalwart
00:21:42has made a flying start in his time as the head coach here Manchester United 2, Tottenham Hotspur 0.
00:21:49I thought the boys got the balance right you know you can see that they're playing with confidence
00:21:53and the expression side of the game is certainly there and we need to keep that
00:21:58these things we can work on and keep improving you know we've been together three or four weeks so
00:22:03we want to keep striving for more but it's great you know the excitement part of the game and
00:22:07goal malfunction is what we love can I ask you about your goal off the shin but I reckon you meant it
00:22:14yeah because I think that if you go with your feet the probability of the ball going very very high
00:22:20is big because he's bouncing in front of you some people will say there was not meant it but it
00:22:24it was actually meant it because I knew the ball then would have gone straight into the floor and
00:22:28Vicario there has to move with the ball so I just tried to go across him to make him not able to
00:22:33to jump and get the ball there and he almost got it the red card is is the big incident after this week
00:22:38of all weeks it's the last thing you needed your captain needed the club needed do you have an issue to
00:22:42solve with him now I just think it's the it's the perfect storm of course of course it was today
00:22:49it should happen uh it is what it is I think it's clear that the situation is you have now seen it
00:22:56through five times just to be absolutely clear you know it's clearly tried to tackle the ball ball just
00:23:00left and then it's a follow-through and then 14 is a red card well since thomas frank mentions it
00:23:05let's talk about the red card before we get on to manchester united's performance and series of
00:23:09performances christian romero and we heard guy mention it there to thomas frank posted after
00:23:15the the game last week where he had to come up at half time ill that it was disgraceful that spurs
00:23:19only had 11 fit players to to select from now they have won fewer for the next four matches because
00:23:25he got himself sent off correctly in your opinion yeah absolutely michael oliver gets it uh absolutely
00:23:31right um you can't tackle like that in today's game um and he's got to show better leadership and he can
00:23:38he's said what he said in in whatever post he's uh he's done on instagram or whatever it was on but
00:23:43leaders are the ones who perform for the team and makes other players around them better and now
00:23:49he's going to be missing for four games and just top just do not need that but absolutely it was a red
00:23:55card danny yeah thomas frank can't be blamed for this today he's to blame they were in the game when
00:24:02he was on the pitch and when he's gone off and give the team a mountain to climb and uh you know i'm sure
00:24:06one or two of the lads at half time went in and said the piece well i hope they did anyway because
00:24:09it makes it makes life really difficult and it's the captain this record of most red cards in the
00:24:14premier league since he's made his debut in august 2021 how concerning is that how worried should
00:24:19should tottenham be about that very concerned yeah well i mean you you said it he's gonna have four
00:24:24games because it's his second red card this season so yeah um from manchester united's point
00:24:30of view it's another win under michael carrick nothing changes except maybe it did a little bit
00:24:36danny well you'd have been forgiven for thinking he'd just put the same team out same formation
00:24:41and he didn't he made a great little tweak and it worked perfectly 11 v 11 united are opening spurs
00:24:47up and and making chances he played bruno and cunha as two tens or two false nines whatever you want
00:24:51to say he moved in bumo has been playing center forward out to the left and ahmad was on the right
00:24:57and what it did with two intelligent players like these two it gave this tottenham center-halves a real
00:25:01problem do we go in and follow him or do we drop off does the midfield three any two of the three
00:25:06tottenham players drop in this is the first minute look at the space bruno's got he's playing some of
00:25:11the best footballers of his career and surely the game plan was to try and stop him getting on the
00:25:15ball that's an early warning here again one coming to feet in space the other one no one picking him up
00:25:20of course as i said they're talented boys they are really special footballers but you have to set a
00:25:25plan to stop the best players when the ball eventually comes to bruno here again you expect him to
00:25:30score but how can he be in that much space and this is the little tweet karik made that i thought i
00:25:35was really impressed with and he's obviously a you know really football thinking man and tries to find
00:25:40different ways and cunha again asking for the ball because he knows he's in space i think it's paulini
00:25:45trying to get back in there no communication and time and time again this is all 11 v 11 by the way
00:25:51ahmad's got two options here look he can play bruno is free center-halves are too deep
00:25:55midfielders aren't coming back quickly enough cunha was free the goal instigated by bruno of course
00:26:02little clever move little clever corner set playing and bruno fires one into the bottom corner now that's
00:26:07against 10 of course you expecting them to go and dominate the second half but similar things
00:26:11happened clever players getting in intelligent positions linking up together starting to enjoy
00:26:18themselves getting lots of the ball it's only a great block here stops bruno getting another shot off
00:26:22uh cunha had gone off at this point but bruno got his goal with a wonderful finish and topped off a
00:26:28brilliant performance considering actually had one of his poor performances last week i did the game
00:26:32against fulham and uh he wasn't at his best but at the moment he's arguably the best number 10 in europe
00:26:37and because of that these stats that michael carrick is putting on the board don't look like a flash in
00:26:43the pan do they look sustainable i mean it'll be hard to keep going with these numbers these are
00:26:49phenomenal numbers he'll be much happier seeing those after 10 games let's say but he can't have
00:26:54asked for a better start they're playing good football the fans are on board the players look
00:26:57confident are enjoying themselves not fun is it it is if you're a manchester united fan
00:27:04now having gone three without a win in the premier league newcastle welcomed this season's
00:27:09surprise package brentford to st james's park commentary comes from martin fisher
00:27:13remarkably this is newcastle's only home match and a challenging eight game spell they've been
00:27:22strong here this season i need to pick me up after wednesday's disappointments in the carabao cup
00:27:28brentford have been excellent on the road recently but their last success here was in 1934
00:27:35bruno grimmer ish is back for newcastle after missing the last four games with an ankle injury
00:27:40joan wisser starts against his former club for the bees keen lewis posse replaces the suspended kevin
00:27:47shader there's never been a goalless draw between these two in fact in the premier league there have
00:27:55been a glut of goals 37 scored in nine games let the fun commence bottom got his head to it it might drop
00:28:05invitingly here for lewis posse was he held back by trippier andy madley not impressed
00:28:13keen lewis posse made the most of it but there's definite contact there from trippier as he grabs hold
00:28:18of the brentford man's jersey checks and clear intelligent ball into space for willock
00:28:27agger across for brentford wisser and murphy are in the box skimmer is just arriving so to his hall but it's
00:28:34turned behind before it can reach the left back
00:28:36in by gimmer ish keeper can't get to it and he's headed home
00:28:50sven portman on his 100th appearance for newcastle has his first ever goal at st james's park
00:29:00dutch delight newcastle in front and he's done it in front of the gallegate
00:29:09trippier what a beautiful ball that is for barnes
00:29:15hall saw a gap burst through it great ball in
00:29:20and wisser stabs it goalwards and it's cleared off the line by yad elks
00:29:25it looks in all the world as though it was going to be number two for newcastle
00:29:30but yanel was in the right position at the right moment
00:29:35in the premier league newcastle boasts the third worst record of holding on to winning positions
00:29:42so brentford shouldn't be too demoralized just yet
00:29:45batara having a run at trippier
00:29:52a cross and headed home at the back post vitale yanel makes it one one great response from the bees
00:30:01magnificent delivery by dango watara and vitale yanel is the beneficiary
00:30:07his first goal of this season but it owes so so much to this ball in
00:30:13from dango watara it's a gem and yanel steers it home
00:30:20and brentford are level thanks pal newcastle one brentford one
00:30:27oh that's careless gimarais quickly on to tonali
00:30:41disappointing center but it's not the grace of the balls from henderson that lewis potter had to get a
00:30:46move on to clear towards tiago who's helped it on to coyote here's the danger man watara on the left
00:30:54foot puts trippier down on his backside and teasing up for jensen what a chance shout for penalty given
00:31:04jacob murphy yellow carded for handball and referee andy madley could not have had a better view of that
00:31:13it's a poor effort in the end from matthias jensen and in this day and age that is a penalty every day of the week
00:31:20it's tiago for brentford and a 2-1 lead
00:31:28terrific spot kick
00:31:30and from one behind brentford have turned this around
00:31:35and jacob murphy's handball punished with a perfect penalty from igor tiago
00:31:41brentford will look to see this through for their fourth away win in their last five trips
00:31:51botman
00:31:53waltomada was slacked on his heels but it will run through for wissa a chance to turn this right for
00:31:57trippier got a lot of room far side alanga waltomada and barnes were in the middle was that hand ball by
00:32:03henry strong shouts from trippier the arm behind the back and the ball touches the top of his chest
00:32:12on the field decision confirmed
00:32:15chow
00:32:26he's going to have a blast here he is great save by gallagher
00:32:32that's a firm strike that from the german and well dealt with by clevin gallagher
00:32:38coyote won that well but now a chance for asula on the counter for newcastle
00:32:48can he get his head up here bruno gimraish away to his right he's come left instead for alanga
00:32:54bodies falling in the middle gimraish down asula down coyote down
00:32:59and the referee has called a halt to proceedings has var checked for a possible penalty
00:33:05just keep your eye on bruno gimraish in the middle here coyote is the defender coming across
00:33:11and he just appears to catch his trailing leg with his leading left leg
00:33:20after review there is a careless trip by the blue 33
00:33:27penalty given
00:33:28bruno gimraish accepts the responsibility but kelleher with three penalty saves out of six this season in
00:33:38the premier league will take some beating but he is beaten and we're level at st james's
00:33:45and the returning skipper is the local hero again
00:33:52it's 2-2 with everything to play for with 12 to go
00:33:57what a ding-dong battle this one has been
00:34:08well that's a lovely ball from jensen watara is in and watara thumps it home for 3-2 brentford
00:34:15well he scored a screamer to win at villa park a week ago and dango watara has silent st james's park
00:34:24and this is a magnificent ball from matthias jensen and watara took aim fires and brentford are back in
00:34:33front and on course for their first win at st james's park since 1934
00:34:45you're making this a bit of a habit winning on the road what's the secret a very good question
00:34:49i think we just put the workout in every single week and i think we all know how difficult it is
00:34:54to to play against newcastle especially at this ground um we said the same last week villa way um
00:35:00now we've got six points i think everyone is buzzing and yeah we have to keep going
00:35:03dango watara magnificent ball in for that equalizer and then a really calm collected finish yeah he's
00:35:10growing all the time speak about him um being being part of the group and been a disjointed season
00:35:17because he went to afcon started on the right went to the left your right the cross was sensational
00:35:21and then the the finish was just outstanding and he's concentrating behind he's constantly evolving
00:35:26this game and he's a big part of our group strange game because i think it's 2-2 you think we're the
00:35:32team that's going to go on and win that game um we had ascendancy in the second half thought it was
00:35:35much better but the game got away from us with a really poor third goal possibly could be europe next
00:35:41season i'll certainly be going there on holiday in the summer and that's the only way we'll um
00:35:47we'll speak about that word for the foreseeable future it was a really enjoyable end-to-end game
00:35:52unless you're watching from a newcastle united perspective that's 11 goals they've conceded in
00:35:58the final 10 minutes in the game in the in the premier league this season nobody has conceded more
00:36:04in that time and brentford were able to take advantage of that through dango watara who had a
00:36:11fantastic game yeah he was uh he was outstanding um actually did he was right he started on the right
00:36:17hand side but then they shifted him to the uh to the left hand side i mean this cross oh my god into
00:36:21jan out who was also superb in the game that is an unbelievable cross and a fantastic header and
00:36:28he was a constant threat for uh for brentford today everything he did i thought was measured great
00:36:34skill pace ability to run with the ball and he did this so many times the check and we will we'll talk
00:36:41about this uh this penalty uh in a minute but it was him that played a huge part in in getting there
00:36:46whether it was right left he gets his goal here he strikes it so well port perhaps should do better
00:36:52but he he catches it superbly well on the half volley the power he gets behind it and the direction
00:36:59um yeah and newcastle couldn't really handle him he's back on the right hand side on this one again
00:37:05and we saw see him again the little chop again as if to say i'm going to shoot with the left but comes
00:37:09back in on the right perhaps should do better but he was absolutely outstanding and what a job
00:37:14andrews is doing with that brentford team he's rinsing every bit of ability out of his players
00:37:19and doing so so well yeah sitting in seventh place in the table at the moment a penalty award in that
00:37:24game for handball um let's tee up alan by setting up the the situation danny yeah i mean i think that
00:37:33when when we saw it we felt it was a penalty and then you look at it a bit more and you think well his arm
00:37:38comes down to a more natural position so maybe it's not but looking at it he's bringing it down
00:37:44towards the ball so it would be fair to say that the officials think that he's gone from unnatural
00:37:49towards a natural but it's one of those things under the handball law we've they've got it right
00:37:55let's say i think the officials have got it right but it's it's a difficult one to keep seeing players
00:38:00get penalties given when actually you can't get your arm out of the way but that's the problem with the
00:38:05law al isn't it i probably it's probably a penalty yeah and under the law but the law is just terrible
00:38:11i mean there's so many things that natural unnatural proximity i mean it's just absolutely
00:38:17ridiculous just go back to is it deliberate handball or not so much simpler and you think that one
00:38:23wasn't deliberate handball because that's where the sort of gray area i don't know he's just trying
00:38:29to get his arm inside and the balls hit his arm under the law yes it's probably a penalty but
00:38:34they've just got themselves in such a mess with with so many wording over the year i think what
00:38:39they could say it's gone down as a um undeliberate handball accidental handball sorry but you could
00:38:46argue that bringing it towards the ball is a deliberate act and if he'd have moved his arm up
00:38:51it had it had gone through so i get why they've given it but i agree with that i'm not a big fan of
00:38:57the law i'd like to go back to deliberate but the problems are deeper than that at newcastle at the
00:39:04moment nine goals conceded in their last three we looked at the goals they're conceding in the last
00:39:0710 minutes of games anyhow probably under the most pressure that he's been since he's been in charge of
00:39:13of newcastle are they mitigating circumstances or is it justified yeah he's having a really tough time
00:39:17the toughest time since he's been at newcastle but i think it was a tough situation in the summer we know
00:39:22with these with the isac situation and with no sport and director but there's no doubt there
00:39:28summer signings or other than malik chow uh haven't worked as yet they've spent an absolute fortune on
00:39:35on four players and they're yet to get anywhere near the heights that they did it other football
00:39:40clubs and that is a huge problem for eddie and for newcastle and until they solve that i'm not sure
00:39:46it will get better next there's a big game at the bottom of the table at turf moore a win for host
00:39:52burnley would reduce the gap between them and visiting west ham to just two points conor mcnamara
00:39:58watch this one for the last 11 league games there has been no movement to the relegation zone wolves
00:40:07bottom and these two side by side above them burnley in 19th place starting today five points behind west
00:40:15ham in 18th scott parker was vocally critical of his site's performance losing 3-0 at sunderland
00:40:21he makes two changes today with hannibal mebrey coming back into the midfield and joint top scorer
00:40:27zeon fleming leading the attack up front nulo espirno santo makes three changes from west ham's
00:40:33defeat at chelsea interestingly there's a change in goal mads hermanson preferred to alphonse ariona who's not
00:40:39injured but dropped to the bench axel de sassy on loan from chelsea makes his west ham debut in place of
00:40:46the suspended to depot and callum wilson joins the attack last time these sides match was back in
00:40:54november it was a thrilling game with two late goals west ham won by three goals to two in the end
00:41:01somerville it's an attacking team that nulo espirno sent to his league today somerville takes
00:41:09on kyle walker goes down in the penalty area now the referee darren england points for a goal kick
00:41:16he's managed to just about stay on the right side of the law here it has been checked and cleared that
00:41:22is deemed to be a normal coming together of two players jostling for the ball
00:41:25apparently haven't won any of the last seven premier league games against west ham
00:41:32and this victory over today's opponents was back in the behind closed doors summer of 2020
00:41:41esteve looking for jayden anthony
00:41:45the sack a little bit uncomfortable but he dealt with it well
00:41:48calum wilson allows the ball to roll for mateš fernández
00:41:52and now christencio somerville and he's nicked it over the goalkeeper to score
00:41:57it's an early lead for west ham in this crucial game in the relegation battle
00:42:06he's now scored in five games in a row in all competitions
00:42:13newnos brinosentos team who have scored more goals in the opening 15 minutes of premier league games this
00:42:19campaign than any other team in the top flight burnley who've conceded more than their fair share of early
00:42:26goals feel the sting the weight of the pass into his path a key element there as christencio
00:42:34somerville continues this wonderful run that he's been on
00:42:45somerville nice touch malichu
00:42:49civil points to wait for including tati castellanos who celebrates his first premier league goal
00:42:57it's been a whirlwind of an opening 25 minutes for west ham and already burnley look to be in big trouble today
00:43:09nero spirosentos team who gave away a two goal lead to lose last weekend
00:43:17surely lightning's not going to strike twice in that regard
00:43:22all about the delivery here
00:43:23well hadji malichu given the time and the space
00:43:28to lay it onto the forehead of christianos burnley nil west ham united two
00:43:39still in play for kyle walker
00:43:40hannibal mabry
00:43:47edwards
00:43:50trying to get the ankle worth the goal
00:43:53marcus edwards
00:43:56he had the bend he had the whip he just needed a little bit more of both there
00:44:03and here is lucas perez
00:44:04bashir humphries who continued the run from central defense
00:44:09fleming got up well they appeared that it came off an arm the on-field decision is to play on
00:44:15it came off the upper body of de sassy
00:44:19but i don't think his arms were in an unnatural position if in fact it hit the defenders arms at all
00:44:28probably seeking some positivity on a day that has very much gone against them so far
00:44:34it's dead
00:44:37to schloren
00:44:39fleming might get another chance
00:44:42now for palace hesitates and edwards can't turn it in
00:44:47this town fortunate not to can see there marcus edwards still going
00:44:51now mavro palace puts it out for the corner
00:44:56three chances in one there
00:45:04sent in by jayden anthony
00:45:06bashir humphries on the back stick fleming threw himself at it
00:45:10barely just can't squeeze it in
00:45:14it was a great effort here the flying header from zion fleming
00:45:18bravely throwing himself at it but west ham's rear guard stands for
00:45:23humphries bowen's done really well to steal in behind and then he flashes it in front of cosencio
00:45:34somerville
00:45:36west ham united so close to a third
00:45:40bashir humphries completely outfoxed and on another day that would have been laid on a plate for somerville
00:45:47no premier league team has dropped more points from winning positions this season than west ham but
00:45:54the way this day has panned out the visiting fans feeling very confident now that the three points are going their way
00:46:02west ham complete a premier league home and away double over burnley this season
00:46:07this is an important victory for luno espiro santo it is now 15 games without a win for burnley only
00:46:15three victories in the premier league all season it was tough today and certainly the the first half was tough
00:46:24i don't think there was a lack of desire or a lack of passion um we're in a difficult moment i think
00:46:29you can feel that i think the stadium felt that to be quite honest with you and i think you see a team
00:46:33that are fragile at this present moment in time for sure and we give ourselves a a mountain to climb
00:46:39second half we we have numerous chances and we don't manage to to maybe crank up the the pressure
00:46:45and we we just fall a little bit short today for for many reasons really so hugely disappointing
00:46:50obviously we spoke before about how important this game was um i thought it was a totally different
00:46:55reaction to the the performance we had against sundern but in this current environment and i include
00:47:00everything around the place in terms of that it was it was edgy and it felt it and i think that
00:47:04reflected at times on on the players we were solid we were very very strong in our box um axel dino's
00:47:12aaron malik skulls after i think they did a good job on on containing burnley we are still in the same
00:47:18situation we have to focus on ourselves um try to get this energy to the london stadium with our fans
00:47:25like the like you see today was was was so nice to see helping the team and even when the on the
00:47:29second half when burnley puts us against the ropes you can see our fans singing and supporting the boys
00:47:35is so important three wins in four now for west ham they've taken 21 games to get three three wins
00:47:41before that and it's the first clean sheet since august how have they turned it around i think there's
00:47:45been a huge shift in attitude a month ago i thought they were gone i thought there was no coming back from
00:47:50that performance and result against wolves but i think after that in terms of how positive they've
00:47:55been particularly they've gone into forward positions today it was a good old-fashioned 4-4-2
00:48:01if you like with two wingers two center forwards and they played on the front foot they were always
00:48:07positive always first thought can they can they go forward always having three four five players in
00:48:13the box and he's been a huge part of that somerville and another goal today that was a fantastic finish
00:48:19but that's what i mean by committing so many men forward and we we saw a brilliant crossing from
00:48:25the tower not so long ago this is equally as good from juif i mean but you've got two center forwards
00:48:30in there castellanos gets his first premier league goal if he doesn't get it then wilson's in there
00:48:35behind him so everything was on the front foot everything was positive and another great example of
00:48:40that of winning the ball back high up high and then all of a sudden you've got three four five players
00:48:45who prepared to to get into the into the box and that was the difference somerville again okay the
00:48:51burnley lucky to get away with that but they were asking so so many questions second half that didn't
00:48:57really change again it was that guy somerville but just look when he wins it there it's how many people
00:49:03are getting up there and are already up in there but that comes from being being positive and another
00:49:08big big win for for noon and for west ham uh it's another defeat though for burnley that's 11 defeats
00:49:15now this season they're one short of their league record number of defeats in one season which was set
00:49:20in 1888-89 they haven't won in their last 16 as we heard and as scott parker said the fans have turned
00:49:28yeah there's no positives they've got they've gone out with a whimper haven't they decent start to the
00:49:32season they were competitive now they've got no confidence the fans have lost you know all hope
00:49:38it's going to be a difficult end of the season for them but we'll have to wait and see what happens
00:49:41with scotty two games for you in sunday's match of the day
00:49:46and you can follow all of sunday's action from midday on five live and bbc sounds and to remind
00:50:11you that individual highlights of every premier league game available on the bbc sport website

00:50:23and there's live wsl from 2 15 a spurs take on chelsea now another side trying to make it four
00:50:31premier league wins in a row under a new manager at chelsea liam rosinia's side made the trip to
00:50:36bottom of the table walls your commentator is mark scott
00:50:39rob edward says wolves transfer business both in and out has given his squad a nice refresh and their
00:50:48two new arrivals both make their debuts today which starts for angel gomez and adam armstrong
00:50:54in an attacking lineup matt doherty also comes in with agpadu sold andre injured and rodrigo gomez
00:51:01benched chelsea are too different from the league cup loss at arsenal cole palmer and petro netto
00:51:07replacing gerald harto and liam de lapp there's no reese james in the squad
00:51:11doherty looking for mate who's crowded out but has done really well very well manet's still going
00:51:23shrugging off a couple of challenges and that's looped behind for a corner kick
00:51:30after magnificent stuff from matthias manet
00:51:32well he really has impressed since getting his first taste of premier league action
00:51:42in december great industry and endeavor here to earn wolves an early corner
00:51:48sanchez has stayed it's a tricky one to deal with
00:51:52and chelsea just about do deal with it encouraging start for wolves here
00:51:58well they're up against the set-piece masters in the week of arsenal dealt with those dead falls
00:52:05okay but nearly made a right mess of it against the bottom club
00:52:11for farna
00:52:14nice idea from pedro netto and he's got clear of hugo bueno as well plenty of white shirts up there
00:52:21shall pedro collects controls but can't quite offload
00:52:26oh but then goes over and chara gillard has given a penalty
00:52:31what a clumsy foul that was on xiao pedro to gift chelsea a spot kick
00:52:38they have barely done anything so far but the wolves captain has tripped ciao pedro to give away a penalty
00:52:47it will be cole palmer with the duties here from 12 yards
00:52:52palmer perfect and chelsea are in front
00:53:00his last goal was a penalty against brentford last month and he rolled this one in
00:53:07very calmly to wolves nil chelsea one
00:53:14here's netto
00:53:19gustow after it here decent looking ball kukurea
00:53:23and kaisedo enzo fernandez went for the rapona fernandez again sar is there wolf survive
00:53:35enzo fernandez improvised really cleverly here and saw made the save would have been some goal
00:53:42for farna netto
00:53:52good ball that from andre santos gustow
00:53:55good save from josé sar
00:53:57gusto who scored his first ever senior goal in the home win over wolves in november almost netted here
00:54:05with a fizzing hit
00:54:07chelsea starting to assert the kind of dominance that you would have expected them to have done
00:54:12good job pedro has gone over and it's another penalty well initially i thought it looked a bit
00:54:22soft but jara gillett has decided that the shove from mosquera merits another penalty kick i do just
00:54:31wonder if it was outside the area and that might be what they're protesting about here well var have
00:54:38double checked and they say that it was inside the box so it will be a second penalty kick for chelsea
00:54:46so cole palmer who's already netted from the spot steps up once again
00:54:54different corner same outcome and chelsea double their lead and chelsea are well on course for another
00:55:04victory under liam rosinia in the premier league it would be four in a row kind of run that ento
00:55:13mareska only managed once across this season and a half in charge
00:55:19pedro netto
00:55:20touched on here for cucarere chelsea looking for a third palmer hat-trick for cole palmer
00:55:34the high school celebration but he's red hot this afternoon so much talk about how to get the best
00:55:42salad of palmer well he's got a first half hat-trick this afternoon this was far too easy slice down
00:55:50that left-hand side of the wolves defense and nobody was picking up cole palmer and you knew when he got
00:55:56there what was coming next it's wolves nil it's chelsea three and it could get very very ugly for the home side now
00:56:04the test man a rodrigo comez has made the offer
00:56:20man a
00:56:23rock otari on the rebound can't do anything with it
00:56:26almost lifted the gloom a little here matthias manet
00:56:32with a lift towards the far corner out of the reach of sanchez but not quite curling enough
00:56:42manet's corner flicked on oh it's in
00:56:45the rock otari gets wolves on the board
00:56:47and it was flicked on handily in the near post by armstrong and that caused problems for chelsea
00:56:57a rock otari on hand to react quickest to stab home it's a clever flick from armstrong
00:57:04not so clever defensively from chelsea and tolo a rock otari was there to profit
00:57:11to make it wolves one chelsea three
00:57:17mascara's throat
00:57:25stoppage here malo gusto
00:57:30didn't see a great deal in it
00:57:34gusto down and it was actually his own teammate who caught him here an arm from mostly for farna
00:57:40we will resume with a drop ball here
00:57:49angel gomez oh good chance
00:57:53and the header over the top from mascara
00:57:57excellent leap but just a bit too high
00:58:00it is a fourth straight league win for liam rosinia thanks to a treble from cole palmer
00:58:10obviously cole delighted for him there's been a lot of talk around him about how happy he is
00:58:15he looked happy today with three goals but we could have scored more in the first half and we need to
00:58:20keep improving i think we made a couple of ludicrous decisions in the penalties
00:58:23um yeah and you can't give a team like that with the quality they've got that sort of head start in
00:58:30the game anyway it wasn't a good environment or a place to sort of play for for up until half time
00:58:35then it was important and we just had to get in and and the challenge then was the players was to
00:58:39to show some characters some belief life under liam is amazing you know he gives us
00:58:42all confidence um him and all the stuff you know on the training pitch with his strategies the way we
00:58:48playing stuff so let's just be ourselves playing free so i'm sure when i'm when i'm back proper fit
00:58:54then you'll see the best of me clearly delighted cole palmer there no doubt that he was you know the
00:59:00standout player in that game but where did they get the most joy on the pitch do you think danny
00:59:04definitely wide areas they really focused on getting down the sides of wolves um from all
00:59:09for all areas of the pitch i mean i could show you 10 12 different examples there's the back four
00:59:15netto obviously is a wide man kept his width well and he's always dangerous anyway this was a good
00:59:20play that led to the penalty but that space they left him behind time and time again chelsea um
00:59:26utilized it i mean it's it's a ridiculous challenge in the end on gel pedro and it is a penalty
00:59:32but they've got good numbers in the box and it's a fantastic result for chelsea and uh liam sorry it's um
00:59:41it's another good momentum builder and players playing with confidence getting used to his system
00:59:46here you can see again gusto this time making a run in behind losing his runner should have scored
00:59:52and xiao pedro into outrun that big space of the leaving there's there's not really a decent back
00:59:57four line there from wolves and i don't know what he's thinking pushing him in the back there he's not
01:00:02going anywhere but it's that space they keep leaving and for the third goal of the hat trick
01:00:10it's a good move overload down the sides again and by the time they get down into the
01:00:17final third the quality of the pullbacks brilliant and palmer's not going to miss that
01:00:22and if that's him playing what 60 fit a few players just a few teams should be worried when
01:00:29he gets 100 but we know his quality he's a wonderful talent he's calm he's end products
01:00:34gay he's a game changer but he does need to carry on this form and stay fit till the end of the season
01:00:38if he wants to get in that england squad i think i tell you what it's one level when you remember the
01:00:42fathers of players it's another level altogether when you remember the fathers of managers
01:00:48it's a new level to move on to but it's been fantastic for liam rosinio nottingham forest
01:00:52and crystal palace uh still to come for them quick word on the the start he's made alan brilliant yeah
01:00:57leeds and burnley at home next as well so that'll be another opportunity to do to kick on again
01:01:03now fulham and everton face each other on the same points having both accrued 34 from 24 games but who
01:01:08would break the deadlock chris wise was at craven cottage it feels like summer playing musical chairs
01:01:16for those final european places fulham and everton without a seat at the start of the day and yet a
01:01:22win would have them feeling quite cozy by the end of it marco silverside have been on both the right
01:01:28and the wrong end of late goals recently he's made one change from the defeat at man united
01:01:33setting on preferred to robinson at left back and that's the same position that everton have altered
01:01:38michelenko returns with brandthwaite having his minutes carefully managed david moyse serving a
01:01:44touchline ban after he passionately celebrated that dramatic everton equalizer of brighton
01:01:52not just side by side in the table with the same points but even the same goal difference as well
01:01:58these two i think the paths of fulham and everton could be intertwined right to the very end of this
01:02:05premier league season everton get it up and forward towards barry who at the moment is alone and
01:02:15in a difficult spot with anderson coming into a tackle like that but armstrong's helped him out
01:02:20and everton have got it again and harrison armstrong goes over and wins the free kick as well
01:02:26chiquese just leaning into the youngster
01:02:29so ghana with the free kick and this potentially is where everton can come into their own on a day
01:02:37like this ghana's gone for goal leno saw it and flicks it over the bar for a corner
01:02:46everton corner that is a good one and their head has hit the post and armstrong can't get on the
01:02:52follow-up that certainly was a scare for fulham it's the head of jake o'brien at the far post
01:02:58amongst that cluster of bodies and he's serving his touchline band today david moyes who he is
01:03:05watching very high up in the riverside stands it's a foul on smith row but they've still got the ball
01:03:14and then suddenly awobi's got it in everton's box and here's jimenez and in it goes from rao jimenez
01:03:21and it took a while to deflect and bobble and eventually nestle in the everton net but it made it
01:03:32well that's really unlucky it's the save by pickford and then it's bounced back in off the defender
01:03:37so that will go down as a vitaly michelenko own goal and here they come again sweeping forwards
01:03:45well it's a brilliant save by pickford that full stretch that was probably creeping in
01:03:58harry wilson with pace towards jimenez headed away by tarkovsky
01:04:02taken back by sessignon chikwese trying to change direction smith row how unlucky is that
01:04:10mightily close to a second for marco silva's team
01:04:13what the confidence to take it first time emil smith row
01:04:21sessignon you can see why he's been selected by marco silva today ahead of anthony robinson
01:04:26don't know how he said that he then relinquishes the ball it's won back by chikwese it's smith row
01:04:32jimenez
01:04:36inches away from a second for fulham
01:04:40that one certainly would have been his had he found the corner
01:04:4560 games in charge of everton marco silva had his
01:04:49final game a 5-2 defeat in the merseyside derby just over six years ago
01:04:56chikwese slipping it in smith row and pickford very quick off his line to block the angle
01:05:07so swift to recognize the danger there pickford
01:05:11more work for everton to do right before half time here wilson's delivery
01:05:16armstrong ahead of cuenca chikwese oh my words off the top of the crossbar
01:05:23that would have been a hit from the heavens from samuel chikwese
01:05:30here he is he's almost close enough to us in the match of the day commentary position to
01:05:34hear everything we say today but we've only got good things to say about thomas tuchel
01:05:41chikwese can't keep it in at least in his attempts to do so presents the ball to o'brien but
01:05:46fulham have it back with sesignan and harry wilson with the room and chikwese with even more
01:05:53and somehow everton have scrambled it away
01:05:57and there's couldn't quite get the final telling touch to the ball
01:06:02since his return to the club everton have drawn more games than any other premier league side including
01:06:08three of their last four and i think from here he may very well take a draw today
01:06:17this is tyrik george michelenko good spin from him michelenko jutsby hall
01:06:23one one
01:06:27he was in brilliant form before his injury and he's back on the score sheet now
01:06:32and david moore's team are back in the game and vitaly michelenko give him a whole heap of credit
01:06:41unlucky with the own goal in the first half but a super play of creativity to make that for
01:06:48jewsbury hall who slides everton level at craven cottage
01:06:54a foul by castanha which again is going to give everton the opportunity to send tarkovsky forward
01:07:05sent keen forward has gone short to jewsbury hall fulham weren't quite alert to that jewsbury hall with
01:07:12a cracking ball was there a touch on the way through there was assistant referees seen it corner to
01:07:19everton yeah just got his fingers to it that's an excellent spot by the official
01:07:26so a change for fulham two changes in fact oscar bob on for his debut having joined from
01:07:31manchester city for 27 million pounds and i'm just hoping that double change is going to disrupt the
01:07:38flow of the everton corner and there is some everton flow oh how's that gone in
01:07:43leno has made a right mess of it the fulham goalkeeper and everton have stolen the lead at
01:07:51craven cottage this manic in the away end it's messy inside that six yard box jake o'brien in front of
01:08:00leno who just couldn't get around the everton center half and it is going to be an own goal from leno it
01:08:06is his touch and everton for the first time in 12 years have a premier league double over fulham
01:08:15look we might have been a little bit fortunate in little bits but we were unfortunate on the goal
01:08:20our goalkeeper made a made a couple of really good saves in the first half but uh look i thought for
01:08:25certainly for most of the second half i thought we were the better team good first half from us the
01:08:29game at half time should be decided to be honest it should be four or four zero or four one really um
01:08:35at this level when you create so many many chances you have to be clean and ruthless to to to to kill
01:08:41the game and and second half um was completely the opposite ourselves we have just to blame ourselves
01:08:47to be honest i don't remember them having a passage of play in the whole second half we won the ball a
01:08:53lot and that's how we need to start in the first minute you know um because we've definitely got the
01:08:59players to do that and to do it for 90 minutes as well so um i'm hoping we can start doing it from minute
01:09:05one rather than 45. i'm glad i was up there because there's a problem running on the pitch when we
01:09:09scored that second goal well actually i noted the fact you had quite a lot of room up there to run up
01:09:13and down if you wanted to in the stands the concrete's not good for knee slides though i've got to tell
01:09:17you although if you've been on the pitch it would have been a different story look just the second
01:09:22time everton have come back to win an away league game across the last three seasons but we have seen
01:09:27these improved performances in the second half from them before alan yeah not for the first time it's it's
01:09:32happened with uh with everton i mean fulham should have scored two or three at least in that uh in that
01:09:37first half um but then what what was different is they played with more courage they committed more
01:09:42men into the box played with more freedom more pace to their game that should be hit first time
01:09:48and then they pressed higher and forcing um fulham into mistakes playing the ball exactly where they
01:09:53wanted them to uh to do it they set the trap michelenko's higher up to higher up on the on the pitch but
01:09:59then oh you see how many players they've got when they actually win that ball and getting into
01:10:04forward positions and goal scoring opportunities michelenko again is a lot further forward and um
01:10:10fulham couldn't couldn't handle it and that was a brilliant win in the year in the end and that's a
01:10:14again look but that's the same thing that that didn't necessarily happen in the first half
01:10:18views be whole finishes off really really well and then they get the yeah the the little bit of
01:10:23luck that they need good ball in but surrounding the yeah the goalkeeper leno and a big three points
01:10:28again for forever but much much better in the second half rather than the first half yeah much
01:10:32improved second half performance from everton now despite beginning the day in third place
01:10:37aston villa's league form has wobbled of late they lost three of the last six
01:10:41they traveled to inform bournemouth and steve wilson was there
01:10:47bournemouth are hoping to complete an impressive hat-trick of home wins having seen off spurs and
01:10:52liverpool here in their last two one change today to the eleven which won at molyneux last weekend
01:10:59it's a first start for the 19 year old brazilian forward ryan signed from vasco da gama adam smith
01:11:06misses out villa make four changes to the side which lost to brentford including a first league start
01:11:12since september for tyrone mings who once upon a long ago was a bournemouth player ollie watkins needs
01:11:19one more goal for 150 in the league
01:11:26taken up by alex jimenez
01:11:30evanielsen's touch off kroupi good effort and evanielsen oh he should have scored
01:11:38well martinez made the save from junior kroupi but pushed it straight out to evanielsen who just
01:11:46couldn't get the leverage on the header
01:11:55jaden sancho is in a nice spot of the middle sancho's drifting inside and he's found rogers
01:12:02who drives the ball into the roof of the net and puts aston villa in front
01:12:06and an unerring finish from morgan rogers
01:12:16such a confident finish
01:12:21that's a great goal he's absolutely lashed that into double figures for the season
01:12:28morgan rogers raston villa
01:12:37evanielsen turning
01:12:42scott good hit martinez patting it down and then denies evanielsen
01:12:47well very similar to evanielsen's early opportunity really
01:12:54in that it was emi martinez dealing with a powerful drive this time from scott
01:13:01but patting it straight to evanielsen and then recovering
01:13:06in comes the resulting bournemouth corner kick
01:13:08well it's at the bar ryan his home debut but if this had gone into the back of the aston villa net
01:13:18it would have been an inadvertent assist for morgan rogers
01:13:21here's buendia good save petrovic
01:13:38that's a little bit of a coming together the maintenance of buendia buendia felt he'd been fouled
01:13:43the var chris kavanat has agreed that there was no cause for a penalty here it's a good save by petrovic
01:13:54and there's not a lot is the man is on buendia
01:14:00well anthony taylor sorted it out fairly quickly
01:14:07and both have been booked alex jimenez and emiliano buendia
01:14:13easy to forget in the excellent season that villa are having a game
01:14:18that they didn't score a goal in their first four premier league games of this season
01:14:32really good run
01:14:37oh it's an outstanding individual goal on his home debut
01:14:41from the 19 year old for bournemouth
01:14:49and they absolutely love that here
01:14:55and he really did it all himself
01:14:57away from luca dean so easily mings didn't get across and he's just slotted it
01:15:09in the near post it's one each and that's one he'll remember for a long long time
01:15:15sancho
01:15:27sancho to matty cash
01:15:29well petrovic has got a touch on this it's a corner kick to villa
01:15:39really sweetly hit by cash petrovic with a little glancing touch on this
01:15:44three minutes to go
01:15:51it's been the promise of goals almost from the off here
01:15:57hill into evan nielsen he'll reach this martinez thought about coming changed his mind evan nielsen
01:16:03ryan christie tremendous effort brooks
01:16:11cook
01:16:13smith
01:16:13onana for villa brooks for bournemouth goal kick for villa
01:16:24ryan christie didn't even have to break stride to volley this goalwards
01:16:31anthony taylor blows this whistle and it's finished all square at the vitality
01:16:35format from villa one i think it's not enough for us before the game probably you take a point or
01:16:43is a decent result after the the game i cannot be feel completely satisfied because i think we
01:16:51we were the better team today easily and and we couldn't win the game good evening yes good point
01:16:56good point difficult and the first half we we fight it we dominated sometimes we needed defense
01:17:04as well but offensively we created the chances and we score and one was equal much the first half
01:17:12but the second half maybe we we needed more and we didn't achieve it but of course happy with
01:17:17the respond on the field the players they did still a bit disappointed obviously going one nil ahead
01:17:21and you want to try and see the game out and even add to the lead and i think we had chances to
01:17:26do that i think it's a very open game in a sense so i think both teams could get into the box and
01:17:31could get chances but they were miles better than the second half and deserve to get back into the
01:17:35game so yeah we'll take the point and move forward and ryan got a goal on his home debut he took it
01:17:40really well yes it's amazing play i think ryan can go inside can go outside it's really difficult for
01:17:45the defender no and has finished it also really well he's still young player still needs adaptation he
01:17:52needs to improve some some things but if he does it with the assist the other day with the goal today
01:17:57with numbers is always easier well look the the points were shared in this game but bournemouth
01:18:03in terms of the numbers were absolutely dominant much higher xg much more shots shots on target
01:18:10touches in the opposition box everything they were ahead of aston villa on yeah they grew into the game
01:18:16second after i mean second of the really good villa were decent in the first half rogers sancho
01:18:21but bourbon's been on a good run recently and and ryan the new sign in who they've brought in to
01:18:26replace some menu he look he's young he's 19 he goes both ways his final ball sometimes didn't work
01:18:33but his positivity and his willingness to beat people and try and make things happen is always
01:18:38refreshing you know he was sometimes coming in and playing and passing and making the right choices
01:18:42and then when he had the space he'd try and beat his fullback go one-on-one here he gets a chance
01:18:49he's going to be good in the air as well he's a big lad he's taking nearly gets his nearly gets a goal
01:18:53there and this is the bit i'm talking about instead of we see so many wingers come back and go inside
01:18:58and pass and straight away bomb he's in he's trying to make things happen and maybe a bit of a better
01:19:04ball there but he grew into the game in second half more and more starting to get on it and try and
01:19:08dominate as the whole team did actually i mean they've got another 19 year old in croupy who's a
01:19:12wonderful player uh their recruitment seems phenomenal they seem to have ready-made replacements all the time
01:19:17and um you have to give them credit for that because the amount of players they've sold and
01:19:21still to be in the position they're in i mean this is really bad defending but still the pace the power
01:19:27the positivity and the finish there on his so-called weaker foot will do him the world of good to score
01:19:33on your first full game for your club and get the fans on board he he looks a super talent having had a
01:19:40chance at the title aston villa now have only one win in their last five is that a worry no i still
01:19:47still thinking they're punching well above their weight and i think if they can get into top five
01:19:51and perhaps get champions league football that way that um that will be a very very good season for them
01:19:57let's go to friday night's game now a relegation six-pointer leeds took on nottingham forest at ellen
01:20:01road alistair mann watch this one leeds boss daniel farker estimates that his side need 12 more points
01:20:10to stay up with results here at ellen road likely to be pivotal his side have lost just two of the
01:20:16last 11 games though an injury to the industrious anton stack is a blow noah okafor deputizes like
01:20:24leeds nottingham forest are in their best form of the season and are searching for a third straight away
01:20:29win they'll pursue it with a debutant goalkeeper in former matchda city player stephan ortega who's one
01:20:35of three changes with murato and zach abbott the others the latter making his first premier league start
01:20:453-1 winners in november nottingham forest are seeking a first league double over leeds in 12 seasons
01:20:53and padu that's a little lax and here's sangare
01:21:02and go jesus and hudson adoy
01:21:08that's too firm i think no gives white will get there i think it might have hung in the breeze
01:21:12dominguez and that's tipped away by darlo well there is a strong wind inside ellen road
01:21:19and it held the ball up and dominguez eventually the beneficiary
01:21:24and they were on five points from eight games when he took over 21 points from 16-6
01:21:30up before that's a nice touch you get away from anderson
01:21:38brings in goodmanson
01:21:41who wins the corner
01:21:44this needs fourth corner
01:21:48do much for the previous three
01:21:51more with that one
01:21:52what about the second ball that's much better and against the bar by calvin lewin
01:22:01well it's the first chance he's had in the match dominic calvert lewin
01:22:05and he has crunched it against the bar terrific header so unlucky you cannot believe it
01:22:12if you want to throw it
01:22:18towards
01:22:21who's onside
01:22:24and they're scored
01:22:27and everyone stops
01:22:29the nottingham forest players in particular
01:22:32grueb's ball forward
01:22:33and Vogel is onside, and there's the proof.
01:22:38He just steals in, unnoticed, and puts it beyond Ortega.
01:22:44Vogel, Justin, Aronson.
01:22:50Good play, and Justin's shot saved, and Okafor!
01:22:56Two-nil leads!
01:22:58Oh, it's Bedlam.
01:23:03Two goals in, ran about three minutes,
01:23:07and Leeds are suddenly in control.
01:23:11They've won all their four previous night games
01:23:14here in Elland Road this season.
01:23:17It looks as though they might be on their way to a fifth.
01:23:20The momentum all with them.
01:23:23It is Leeds 2, Nottingham Forest nil.
01:23:27In a pivotal game, in battling relegation.
01:23:32Anderson, Gibbs-White.
01:23:36He's overdone that, but he suddenly gets it back again.
01:23:40And tries the shot, which deflects, and Darlow pushes it away.
01:23:45Darlow had to make two movements here to make the save.
01:23:49He's already going down for the first attempt, and then it just flicks the defender,
01:23:54and he has to go again.
01:23:5919 of Leeds, 26 points have come here in Elland Road.
01:24:03And they're on course to adding another three this evening.
01:24:07Good ball, Gruev, now Okafor.
01:24:13Works an angle, hits the shot.
01:24:15Bogle couldn't quite get the ball up from out of his feet.
01:24:20And Anderson emerges with it.
01:24:23Good header by Ampadu, here's Gruev.
01:24:28And turned it in by Calvert-Lewin!
01:24:32He's chested it in!
01:24:37What a start to the second half for Leeds.
01:24:40Gruev's ball in, and Calvert-Lewin with the improvisation
01:24:46to use his upper body and lever the ball beyond Ortega.
01:24:53And it is double figures for the season for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
01:24:59He doesn't want them to go out with a whimper if they're going to lose today.
01:25:03Hutchinson...
01:25:07Teasing ball, Luka!
01:25:09Forrest pull one back.
01:25:11It was a great ball in, and that's what they've brought Luka for.
01:25:16To dominate aerially.
01:25:19And on his Nottingham Forrest debut,
01:25:22he has just given the visitors a little bit of life.
01:25:27It's pretty much their first attempt of the second half.
01:25:30And they've made it count.
01:25:32Anderson.
01:25:36Sangare ticks over by Darlow.
01:25:39Well, he made a couple of saves in the first half
01:25:42when the game was a lot more in the balance than it is now.
01:25:45And he's reacted well to Denei Sangare.
01:25:49Another Forrest goal.
01:25:51It's a sign of a great mentality, a great spirit.
01:25:54It's also a winning mentality when you are asked to deliver,
01:25:58and you deliver also in this way.
01:26:00Emphatic fight for my boys.
01:26:02Great, great performance.
01:26:03I would say over 80 minutes.
01:26:05And also showed the other side of us,
01:26:07also the fighting edge and the steel.
01:26:09So overall a perfect, perfect win, perfect night fast.
01:26:12You can't get done with a straight ball at the top
01:26:13with a unit or staring at the ball.
01:26:15That, for me, is nowhere near acceptable.
01:26:17And they know that.
01:26:18Then we give away a second goal, which is not great,
01:26:21just from doing the basics.
01:26:23And then you get to halftime and you still think you're in it.
01:26:25I actually thought we were still in it at that point.
01:26:27And then the third goal and you just go, well, you know,
01:26:29you're scratching your head because I've looked back at them all
01:26:31and they're miles off what we normally do.
01:26:34As a unit, by the way.
01:26:35Not individuals, but as a unit.
01:26:37Danny, that result, plus the win for West Ham,
01:26:40means it's looking a lot tighter at the bottom
01:26:42than we thought it might do.
01:26:44Yeah, I mean, me and I were just talking about,
01:26:45it's very difficult to predict too.
01:26:47West Ham are, out of all the five teams, you'd say,
01:26:49up to Tottenham, who are in the relegation battle,
01:26:52West Ham are in the best form and Palace are in the worst form.
01:26:55They haven't won a game since early December.
01:26:57I think it could go right to the wire.
01:26:59Yeah, I mean, when you look at Palace and the form that they're in,
01:27:03Tottenham, I mean, surely Tottenham can't be pulled
01:27:07into that relegation battle.
01:27:09Well, they're in it.
01:27:10Yeah, they're going to have to start winning games
01:27:12and rather sharpishly.
01:27:14West Ham, I still think, if you're going to ask me,
01:27:17I know you're going to ask me, so I'll probably just say West Ham just.
01:27:20Yeah.
01:27:21I can hear the West Ham fans screaming at me now.
01:27:24Yeah, but the idea of momentum
01:27:26and the idea of those runs of form that you're talking about, Danny,
01:27:29are going to be so important at this stage of the season.
01:27:31And any of these teams could be streaky.
01:27:33Yeah, I think confidence is a massive thing down there.
01:27:36West Ham now are looking up and everyone's buzzing and training it,
01:27:38whereas the other teams who aren't winning any games,
01:27:41training's harder every day, the confidence is dropping.
01:27:44I've got a feeling with Forrest European tilt,
01:27:47that might hamper them a little bit.
01:27:49I think Leeds will be all right, I think, because of their home form.
01:27:53Be strong at home.
01:27:54Let's take a look at the whole Premier League table then.
01:27:57Arsenal end the day nine points clear at the top of the table.
01:28:00That's the first time they've done that since their last title win in May 2004.
01:28:04Excellent starts Manchester United and Chelsea have made under new management continue.
01:28:08They both won for the fourth game in succession.
01:28:10Brentford's bid for European football gathers pace.
01:28:13They're level on points with Liverpool.
01:28:15West Ham with a third win in four closed the gap on Nottingham Forest.
01:28:19So for the first time since before Christmas,
01:28:21three points separate the teams in 17 and 18.
01:28:24And that is all from us.
01:28:26Thank you, Alan and Danny.
01:28:27On a very busy day, Arsenal made it all look so easy.
01:28:31Good night.
01:28:34Good night.
