True humility is the heartbeat of the Christian life.
This sermon exposes the danger of spiritual pride — the “super‑Christian” mentality that creeps into the church and blinds believers to their own need for grace. Through Scripture, we are reminded that no one is more holy, more special, or more deserving than another. All stand equal before God.
We explore:
✨ Why spiritual pride destroys
✨ How Christ modelled perfect humility
✨ Why intention matters more than outward acts
✨ The difference between true believers and false confidence
✨ The danger of abusing spiritual or governmental authority
✨ Why believers must not put their hope in this life alone
✨ How pride mirrors the fall of Lucifer
✨ Why the humble receive grace while the proud are resisted
From the widow’s offering to the repentant publican, from Nathanael’s sincerity to the Pharisees’ hypocrisy, this message calls every believer to examine their heart. Pride is subtle, deadly, and deceptive — but Christ invites the humble to find rest, acceptance, and transformation.
“Work out your salvation with fear and trembling.”
Not in terror, but in humility — knowing that everything we are is sustained by grace alone.
If you desire a deeper walk with God, free from self‑righteousness and spiritual comparison, this message will challenge, convict, and encourage you.

00:06Beggy News a sermon on the peril of spiritual pride and the call to humility various texts
00:13James 4 6 Matthew 5 20 Matthew 7 21 23 1 Corinthians 10 12 I introduction the bad news
00:24No one wants to hear beloved I come to you today with news that will offend some disturb others and
00:30if the Lord is gracious save a few
00:32Have you in Christendom met those who consider themselves super Christians those who walk as though they have attained a
00:40height of holiness beyond the reach of ordinary believers
00:43They esteem themselves better than others forgetting the apostolic command let nothing be done through strife or vainglory
00:51But in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves
00:55Philippians 2 3 I have bad news for such persons we all file in line before the 24 elders none
01:03special
01:04John the beloved saw heaven opened and round about the throne were four and twenty seats
01:09And upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting clothed in white raiment and they had on their
01:16heads crowns of gold
01:18Revelation 4 4 These elders represent the whole redeemed church
01:23Patriarchs and apostles Old Testament saints and new
01:26They sit on thrones yes but what do they do with their crowns
01:31They cast them before the throne crying thou art worthy O Lord to receive glory and honor and power
01:37There are no super Christians in heaven only the redeemed all equally dependent
01:42All equally unworthy all equally covered by the blood of the lamb
01:47T the false divisions we create
01:49A the pastor's reward versus the chastisement of sinners
01:53What of those who will receive the pastor's reward and what of those who have sinned and will receive chastisement
01:59Scripture speaks truly of different rewards
02:02Paul wrote every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor
02:071 Corinthians 3 8 The faithful pastor when the chief shepherd appears
02:12Shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away
02:161 Peter 5 4 But hear me well such as these we are to rescue with fear
02:21Lest we also be consumed in the same sin with them
02:24Jude the servant of Jesus Christ warns us
02:27And of some have compassion making a difference
02:31And others save with fear pulling them out of the fire
02:35Jude 22 23 Why with fear
02:38Because we are all so prone to fall
02:41The same apostle who received the crown of glory could also write
02:45But I keep under my body and bring it into subjection
02:48Lest that by any means when I have preached to others
02:52I myself should be a castaway
02:541 Corinthians 9 27
02:56How can you tremble and be haughty at the same time
03:00It is like serving God and mammon
03:02Impossible
03:03For God resisteth the proud and giveth grace unto the humble
03:07James 4 6
03:08Be the leader and the least
03:10What of the leader?
03:12Yes, gifts are given according to the demands of office
03:16The apostle Paul wrote
03:18And he gave some apostles and some prophets and some evangelists and some pastors and teachers
03:24But these same leaders are told to humble themselves and subject themselves to the least in the church
03:31Our Lord Jesus Christ settled this forever
03:33You know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them
03:37And they that are great exercise authority upon them
03:41But it shall not be so among you
03:43But whosoever will be great among you
03:45Let him be your minister
03:46And whosoever will be chief among you
03:49Let him be your servant
03:50Matthew 20 25 27
03:52And you wonder, where are the least?
03:55We are all equally saved
03:57Equally subject to the blood
03:59Equally yoked
04:00And all accountable before the Lord of hosts
04:03Yes, leaders give account of their office
04:06But each also gives account of themselves
04:08How they conducted themselves
04:10And how they spent the talents entrusted to them
04:13And talents came from God
04:15None can boast of having sourced them by themselves
04:18For who maketh thee to differ from another
04:21And what hast thou that thou didst not receive?
04:24Now if thou didst receive it
04:26Why dost thou glory?
04:27As if thou hadst not received it
04:291 Corinthians 4 7
04:313. Christ's pattern of humility
04:33How Christ loved the lowly
04:36Consider how our Lord Jesus Christ moved among men
04:39He extolled Nathanael saying
04:41Behold an Israelite indeed
04:43In whom is no guile
04:45John 1 47
04:46A man of simple honesty
04:48Not a scholar or a priest
04:50He spoke particularly to the humble in spirit
04:52To the publican who would not lift his eyes to heaven
04:55But cried God be merciful to me a sinner
04:58Luke 18 13
04:59He brought down Herod in disgrace
05:01When Herod Agrippa arrayed himself in royal apparel
05:05And accepted the people's cry
05:07It is the voice of a God and not of a man
05:09The angel of the Lord smote him
05:11And he was eaten of worms
05:13And gave up the ghost
05:15Acts 12 23
05:16So perish all who exalt themselves against the living God
05:20He brought Saul of Tarsus to repentance and repose
05:23Channeling his misguided energy
05:25For the good and edification of the church
05:28The man who once breathed threats and slaughter became the apostle who wrote
05:32I am the least of the apostles
05:34That am not meet to be called an apostle
05:36Because I persecuted the church of God
05:39But by the grace of God I am what I am
05:421 Corinthians 15 9 10
05:44B. The widow's mites
05:46Our Lord particularly singled out the widow
05:48Who gave her all
05:49Two small coins worth less than a penny
05:52He praised her
05:53Of a truth I say unto you
05:55But this poor widow hath cast in more than they all
05:59For all these have of their abundance
06:01Cast in unto the offerings of God
06:03But she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had
06:08Luke 21 3 4
06:10Then the lordly Pharisees
06:12Giving their large sums in view of all
06:14They had their reward
06:15They received the admiration of men
06:17And that was all they would ever receive
06:20Verily I say unto you
06:21They have their reward
06:23Matthew 6 5
06:24And so do these who flaunt their faith
06:27Rather than work it out with all due diligence
06:29IV
06:30The root of pride
06:31The devil's own sin
06:33Do we not know that the devil fell for pride?
06:35How art thou fallen from heaven
06:37O Lucifer
06:38Son of the morning
06:39For thou hast said in thine heart
06:41I will ascend into heaven
06:42I will exalt my throne above the stars of God
06:46Isaiah 14 12 13
06:48Pride is not a minor fault
06:50Pride is the original sin
06:52And when we exhibit that in Christ's kingdom
06:54We stick out like a sore thumb
06:56We become more like the adversary than like the saviour
07:00Who made himself of no reputation
07:02And took upon him the form of a servant
07:05Philippians 2 7
07:06Those who claim betterment wear a Pharisee's robe over their heart
07:10They must remember Christ's exhortation
07:13For I say unto you
07:14That except your righteousness
07:16Shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees
07:19Ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven
07:22Matthew 5 20
07:23The Pharisees were the super-Christians of their day
07:26They tithed mint and cumin
07:28They wore enlarged phylacteries
07:30They loved the uppermost rooms at feasts
07:32And what did Jesus say of them?
07:35Ye serpents
07:35Ye generation of vipers
07:37How can ye escape the damnation of hell?
07:39Matthew 23 33
07:41The terrifying rejection
07:43The world teems with those who overestimate themselves
07:46Especially those deluded that they serve the Lord
07:49For them is reserved that resound in rejection
07:51And then will I profess unto them
07:53I never knew you
07:55Depart from me
07:56Ye that work iniquity
07:58Matthew 7 23
07:59Lest any man think they will be able to appeal that statement
08:04Let it be known
08:05This is a command and a judgment
08:07The Greek word for new is genosko
08:10Intimate
08:11Relational knowledge
08:13Christ will say to many who prophesied in his name
08:16Who cast out demons in his name
08:18Who did wonderful works in his name
08:21I never had a relationship with you
08:23I never knew you
08:24And to whom shall we go
08:26When the Lord of life judges us
08:28Whom except we recede back to our tormentor
08:31Whose desire is that we languish with him
08:33In the bottomless pit
08:34It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God
08:38Hebrews 10 31
08:40Vizier
08:41The abusers of office
08:42Now there are also abusers of office among us
08:45Whether leaders in so-called churches
08:47Or rulers
08:48Who govern according to their whims and falsehoods
08:51Rather than the sincere judgment
08:53And clear command of scripture
08:55They ignore that they are there at the Lord's bidding
08:58To be removed at his will
09:00For promotion cometh neither from the east
09:04Nor from the west
09:05Nor from the south
09:06For God is the judge
09:08He putteth down one
09:09And setteth up another
09:11Psalm 75 6 7
09:13The Lord exhorts Christians that we pray for kings
09:17I exhort therefore
09:18That
09:19First of all
09:20Supplications
09:21Prayers
09:22Intercessions
09:23And giving of thanks
09:24Be made for all men
09:26For kings
09:27And for all that are in authority
09:291 Timothy 2 1 2
09:31Sadly that is one of the least offered prayers in Christendom
09:34And we wonder why things are so dire
09:37How can a mere man rule
09:39Regardless of knowledge
09:40Education level or wisdom
09:42Unless he be guided from above
09:44Solomon trembled
09:46When imbued with the burden of ruling
09:48He cried to God for wisdom
09:50Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart
09:53To judge thy people
09:54That I may discern between good and bad
09:571 Kings 3 9
09:58He started well in that path
10:00But when the wisdom became riches and affluence
10:03Which he himself warned about
10:06Asking in Proverbs for enough
10:08Not too little lest he be cursed
10:10Nor too much
10:12Lest he be overcome with pride and lustful pleasure
10:15Indeed the very things he warned against overcame him
10:19The wisest man who ever lived
10:21Fell into idolatry
10:23Because of women and wealth
10:24Who then is sufficient for these things
10:27No man without constant prayer
10:29So men ought to pray
10:31And faint not
10:32And peradventure the Lord will look favourably upon us
10:36To grant temporary relief
10:38The better to see heavenly things
10:40Through the darkly glass
10:41Until he comes to rescue us
10:44From the world of great tribulation
10:467. BAD news
10:48For those with hope only
10:50In this life
10:51Bad news
10:52If you have all your hope
10:54In this life
10:55If in this life
10:56Only we have hope
10:57In Christ
10:58We are of all men
10:59Most miserable
11:001 Corinthians 15 19
11:03Do you even see this tribulation?
11:05I recall once praying
11:06To be delivered
11:07From the woes of life
11:08And someone quietly corrected me
11:11Saying that was
11:12Excessive language
11:13But I tell you
11:14The apostle Paul
11:15Groaned under the burden
11:17Of this present evil age
11:18And cried out
11:20To be delivered
11:20I have seen so-called brethren
11:22Unequally yoked
11:24With the children of Belial
11:25With unbelievers
11:26And at peace with them
11:28Living just like them
11:29If they are saved
11:30They are severely backslidden
11:32But if they tarry long
11:34In this state
11:34Without any pang of conscience
11:36Their salvation is questionable
11:38Be ye not unequally yoked
11:41Together with unbelievers
11:42For what fellowship
11:43Hath righteousness
11:44With unrighteousness
11:45And what communion
11:46Hath light
11:47With darkness
11:482 Corinthians 6 14
11:50Some follow a sect
11:52Or listen to foolish pastors
11:53Who refrain from rebuking sharply
11:55As Paul exhorted Timothy
11:57Preach the word
11:58Be instant in season
11:59Out of season
12:01Reprove
12:01Rebuke
12:02Exhort with all long-suffering
12:04And doctrine
12:052 Timothy 4 2
12:06These pastors
12:08Refrain from rebuking sins
12:10Of separating
12:11And non-separating
12:13Kinds
12:14And therefore
12:15Heap unto themselves
12:16The spewing out
12:17Of Christ's mouth
12:18For their lukewarmness
12:19So then
12:20Because thou art lukewarm
12:22And neither cold
12:23Nor hot
12:24I will spew thee
12:25Out of my mouth
12:27Revelation 3 16
12:28We are to encourage
12:30One another
12:30No doubt
12:31But not to pander
12:33To the congregation
12:34For filthy lucre's sake
12:35Because we want to keep
12:37The purse strings full
12:38Oh that the Lord
12:39Would help such
12:40Whether they be abusers
12:42Of office
12:42Or pulpit
12:43We pray
12:44Though the Lord
12:45Has commanded
12:45To allow us
12:46Peaceable times
12:47So that his word
12:49Might have free course
12:50And yield
12:50Even more peaceable times
12:52For we all fail woefully
12:54In prayer incessantly
12:56The few
12:57The pseudo-Christian delusion
12:58That we are pseudo-Christians
13:00Is bad enough
13:01Deluded
13:02Thinking we will make it
13:04When in reality
13:05Our actions scream
13:06Worldling
13:07We have reached a state
13:08Where we no longer
13:09Appreciate purity
13:10And have returned
13:12To wallowing in the mire
13:13Let me give you
13:14The illustration
13:15Of the cat and the pig
13:16For believers
13:17And non-believers
13:18Take a believer
13:20Who falls into the mire
13:21Like a cat
13:22Once freed
13:23Even without the means
13:25To clean itself
13:26It will lick itself dry
13:27It cannot stand
13:29The filth upon its fur
13:30The nature is for cleanliness
13:32But take a pig
13:34Washed and cleaned
13:35At the nearest opportunity
13:36It will flee back
13:38To wallowing in the mire
13:39The dog is turned
13:40To his own vomit again
13:41And the sow
13:42That was washed
13:43To her wallowing in the mire
13:442 Peter 2.22
13:46So are these so-called Christians
13:48Usually in the later part
13:50Of their lives
13:51Though some are honest enough
13:52To depart earlier
13:53They return to their youthful sins
13:55With gusto
13:56Some have likened this
13:57To an iron cage
13:58They never truly left it
14:00It only grew harder
14:01Over the years
14:02As they deluded themselves
14:04Thinking they are in the kingdom
14:05Deceiving themselves
14:06They are enjoying both worlds
14:08Whilst in reality
14:09They are stark worldlings
14:11Thankfully
14:11There is a glimmer
14:13Of backslidden hope
14:14Where a person is saved
14:16But misguided or willful
14:17And the Lord drags them back
14:19We pray it may be so
14:21The silver lining
14:22And the eternal darkness
14:24Every cloud has a silver lining
14:26Every night ends in day
14:28For those who are lost
14:30They may get temporary relief
14:32In this life
14:32But darkness eternal awaits
14:35So why stay in that state?
14:37Come join the rejoicing in the Lord
14:39Look forward to the Lord's day
14:41And his coming
14:41We are children of the day
14:43Blessed for our God is the Lord
14:45Not the dumb idols
14:46You worship in the world
14:48The gospel is here
14:49It is preached
14:50Some partially
14:51Some forcefully
14:52Whatever the motive or style
14:54Christ is presented
14:56We have his word
14:57That has been the cleanser
14:58And converter of many
14:59Over the years
15:00Christ came into this world
15:02To save sinners
15:03Of whom the majority
15:04But also all in the kingdom
15:06Were chief
15:07This is a faithful saying
15:08And worthy of all acceptation
15:10The Christ Jesus came into the world
15:13To save sinners
15:14Of whom I am chief
15:151 Timothy 1 15
15:17The heart-wrenching claim
15:19It is a heart-wrenching thing
15:21When a person claims
15:22I was never that bad
15:23This indicates
15:25They were never changed
15:26Nor saw the need for change
15:28These usually manifest this trait
15:30Sooner or later
15:31So clearly
15:32That even the blind will see it
15:34I am come
15:35Said the Lord
15:36To seek and to save
15:37That which was lost
15:38Luke 19 10
15:40And also
15:41For my thoughts
15:42Are not your thoughts
15:43Neither are your ways
15:45My ways
15:45Saith the Lord
15:46For as the heavens
15:48Are higher than the earth
15:49So are my ways
15:50Higher than your ways
15:51And my thoughts
15:52Than your thoughts
15:53That is already bad
15:55So if your thoughts
15:57Haven't really changed
15:58All your life
15:59If your habits
16:00And outlook
16:00Are the same
16:01As when you were unconverted
16:03If you have always wanted
16:05To be rich
16:05And never really were
16:06And you are in your late 50s
16:08Still chasing riches
16:10In Christendom
16:10You are deluded
16:12Pure and simple
16:13And the Lord
16:14Will call you out
16:15If he does
16:16Do not resist
16:17Succumb
16:18And it will be well
16:19Pray
16:20For he has the resources
16:21Made the sacrifice
16:22And has love enough
16:24To bring sinners
16:25To their knees
16:25Before the final assays
16:27When every knee
16:28Shall bow to him
16:29Though some of those knees
16:30Will be bended in hell
16:32That at the name of Jesus
16:33Every knee should bow
16:34Of things in heaven
16:36And things in earth
16:37And things under the earth
16:38Philippians 2.10
16:40Conclusion
16:41The call to humility
16:42Beloved
16:43Let me leave you with this
16:45Work out your own salvation
16:46With fear and trembling
16:48Philippians 2.12
16:49Not with pride
16:51Not with comparison to others
16:53Not with a super Christian badge
16:55Pinned to your chest
16:56But with fear and trembling
16:58Let him that thinketh
17:00He standeth
17:00Take heed
17:01Lest he fall
17:021 Corinthians 10.12
17:04Humble yourselves
17:06In the sight of the Lord
17:07And he shall lift you up
17:09James 4.10
17:10The bad news is this
17:12You are not special
17:13You are not better
17:14Than the weakest believer
17:16In the pew
17:16You stand only by grace
17:18The moment you think you stand
17:20You are in the greatest danger
17:22Of falling
17:23But the good news
17:24The glorious gospel
17:26Is this
17:27The same Christ
17:28Who resists the proud
17:29Gives grace to the humble
17:31The same Lord
17:32Who casts down the mighty
17:34Lifts up the lowly
17:35The same Saviour
17:37Who said
17:37I never knew you
17:38To the workers of iniquity
17:40Says to all
17:41Who come to him
17:42In poverty of spirit
17:43Come unto me
17:44All ye that labour
17:46And are heavy laden
17:47And I will give you rest
17:48Matthew 11.28
17:50Do not neglect God
17:52Do not trust
17:53Your own righteousness
17:54Do not boast
17:55In your gifts
17:56Your office
17:57Your knowledge
17:58Or your experience
17:59Come as you are
18:01Poor, needy
18:02Dependent
18:03And desperate
18:03For such is the kingdom
18:05Of heaven
18:06May the Lord
18:07Grant us grace
18:08To humble ourselves
18:09Before him
18:10Lest we hear
18:11Those dreadful words
18:12And to seek him
18:14While he may be found
18:15That we may hear instead
18:16Well done
18:17Thou good and faithful servant
18:19Enter thou into the joy
18:21Of thy Lord
18:22Matthew 25.21
18:24Amen
18:25Soli Deo Gloria
18:27I love you
18:27I love you
