00:15What's my first and last name?
00:17Hi, my name is Steve, last name Torres.
00:19I've been working as a server and bartender for the past 11 years.
00:27And I've been working as a supervisor here at Samurai Sushi in East Rutherford for the past two years.
00:33How did I get started?
00:35So two years ago, I came in to Samurai Sushi and I had lunch and I talked to the owner,
00:40his name is Walter,
00:42and we had a great conversation, which then led to an awesome opportunity of working here.
00:48My favorite part of working here is, of course, the food.
00:52I think we have great food, but also our staff.
00:56Our staff is a very eclectic mix.
01:00Traditionally, you have Japanese people working at a Japanese restaurant,
01:03but I think it's very cool that you have a mixed pot of workers at a sushi restaurant.
01:10What are some of the challenges?
01:11So we do tend to get very busy, especially on the weekends,
01:15so sometimes it could be a very stressful environment.
01:18And a part of that is trying to remain calm and finish one task at a time.
01:26So that could look like shifting from helping to-go orders to helping the staff with the tables
01:34and making sure everybody's getting proper service, making sure the kitchen has what it needs.
01:40So it's definitely going from station to station, keeps you busy, makes the night go by very fast.
01:46I think it's important to be able to understand your customers,
01:50because you will definitely have customers that want to be right.
01:54And everybody's theory of the customer is always right is definitely different.
01:58But I like to think customers should be happy.
02:02What are some words of advice or inspiration to those first starting out?
02:07I would say practice honesty and integrity,
02:14because no matter where you work or whatever industry you work,
02:17I think it's important to practice honesty in the sense of
02:22if you don't know something, it's okay to ask for help.
02:25I think it's better to be safe than sorry.
02:28Any advice for anybody who wants to work here or have my position?
02:32I would say come in and be yourself.
02:35I think the coolest part about our industry is that you get to sell yourself
02:39and your personality shines through when you get to engage with customers.
02:45Anything else I want to share?
02:46Yes, come check out Samurai Sushi.
02:49We have great food.
02:50I've learned a lot about Japanese cuisine and you won't regret it.
02:57For me also, the whole industry should go true.
03:01My baby loves you, my girl.
03:05The whole house I'll give you someowymness,
03:06You don't get home, it's okay I should come to cry.
