A political prisoner in a cell with the guy who got locked up for public indecency. That’s the setup: Valentín shares space with Molina, a window display decorator who should not be allowed to have free time. But Molina does what he does best. He turns the gray, cramped reality into something you can almost smell. He starts telling a Hollywood musical plot, starring Ingrid Luna, his favorite on-screen diva. And suddenly the cell feels like a stage with bad acoustics and excellent storytelling.

Is it a flawless masterpiece? Probably not, and even the scores are split. But it’s engaging in a very specific way. The movie leans into the absurd contrast between confinement and showbiz melodrama, and it mostly commits. If you like your dramas with a little theater kid energy, this one might just stick to your brain.

Zwei Männer, eine Zelle und die Frage, wer zuerst den Verstand verliert. Valentín sitzt als politischer Gefangener ein und teilt sich den Raum mit Molina, einem Schaufensterdekorateur, der wegen öffentlicher Unanständigkeit einsitzt. Klingt nach „ernst“, wird aber ziemlich schnell zu „warum fühlt sich das wie Kino an?“. Denn Molina rettet sich mit Geschichten: Er erzählt ein Hollywood-Musical, in dem Ingrid Luna die Hauptrolle spielt. Kein trockenes Lagerdrama, eher ein freundschaftlich schräges Kopfkino über Flucht in Fantasie. Dazu gibt’s diese Mischung aus Knast-Alltag und Bühnen-Übertreibung, die manchmal wunderbar trifft. IMDB ist lauwarm, Rotten Tomatoes findet’s besser. Ich auch: solange man bereit ist, sich vom Charme dieser ungewöhnlichen Freundschaft mitzerren zu lassen.
