00:00Urgent weather alert. April 12, 2026. A powerful late-season winter storm is slamming the Sierra
00:05Nevada. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the west slope of
00:09northern Sierra Nevada and western Plumas County. In effect until 11 p.m. Sunday, expect 1 to 2 feet
00:19of snow above 4,500 feet, with 3 to 4 feet possible at the highest peaks and passes like
00:24Donner and Echo Summit. Strong winds up to 50 to 90 mph will create whiteout conditions and blizzard
00:29like visibility. Travel on Interstate 80 Highway 50 and mountain roads will be extremely dangerous or
00:34impossible. Chain controls and closures are likely. Snow levels are dropping as low as 4,000 feet,
00:39bringing heavy wet snow even to lower elevations. This is life-threatening weather. Stay off the
00:43roads if possible, prepare for power outages, and delay all non-essential travel. Stay safe,
