00:02:28All I have is, like, bait money.
00:02:30They have the tracker, and I give that to them.
00:02:32That way I can track them.
00:02:33The bait money?
00:02:34Yes, the bait money.
00:02:37I have a lot of fun at work.
00:02:39Fun is what makes the day go by.
00:02:41If we can't have fun, then I don't want to work with you.

00:02:57So this whole family is a singing family, yeah?
00:03:00We have this saying, there's a difference in singing and singing, and we believe she can
00:03:05sing.
00:03:05She can sing?
00:03:06We can sing.
00:03:07Oh, you can't sing?
00:03:08No, we can't sing.
00:03:09What about you?
00:03:10I sing, and I play the drums.

00:03:33Oh, you got the charm, you simply disarm me every time.
00:03:44As long as you drive, I'm along for the ride your way.
00:04:15Oh, he's gone.

00:08:10I feel very proud
00:08:17Think about their church on Sundays
00:08:20The church must be rockin', boy
00:08:22Every day of your life
00:08:36Our own Macaulay Mustafil has been granted a golden ticket to go to Hollywood
00:08:44And we all know that she's going to be representing us
00:08:48And we all know that she's going to represent us

00:09:01You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors
00:09:04I think you're a racehorse, man
00:09:08I love what you did
00:09:09You're crazy talented, crazy unbelievable

00:09:22You can hallowed the bad boys any day of the week
00:09:25I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet
00:09:34I wonder do we have any valedictorians in this class
00:09:37Where did you rank in your class, Carrie?
00:09:39I was salutatorian
00:09:42But the only reason I wasn't valedictorian
00:09:44Is because two of the classes I needed
00:09:47Were at the same time
00:09:48So you could have been it
00:09:50Yeah
00:09:50And I remember talking to the counselor like
00:09:52This isn't fair
00:09:53What were you?
00:09:54I was not in the running
00:09:57You didn't qualify
00:09:59I was known back then as Lionel Who
00:10:02I didn't even know I was in the class
00:10:06Oh, God
00:10:07How are you feeling?
00:10:09Good, I'm excited, I'm nervous, happy to be here
00:10:11Finally here
00:10:12Oh, it says idol
00:10:14Today's the day
00:10:16Feels incredible to have my family here

00:10:22And I don't know who I'd be without them
00:10:24Love you so much
00:10:25I've just been trying to think all the positive thoughts
00:10:28Manifest all the things
00:10:30But the fact that it's all today
00:10:31I think it's kind of stressed me out a little
00:10:33Oh, my God
00:10:34I don't know why I'm so nervous
00:10:35I'm sorry
00:10:37Come on in

00:11:14You got it
00:11:16I see the parties and the diamonds
00:11:19Sometimes when I close my eyes
00:11:20Six months of torture you sold
00:11:22Some forbidden paradise
00:11:24I loved you truly
00:11:25Gotta laugh at this stupidity
00:11:28I made some real big mistakes
00:11:31You made the worst one look fine
00:11:35I should have known
00:11:37It was strange
00:11:39You only come out at night
00:11:42I used to think I was smart
00:11:45You made me look so naive
00:11:48The way you sold me for parts
00:11:52As you sunk your teeth into me
00:11:55You made me a blood sucker
00:11:58Dream crusher
00:12:00Bleeding me dry
00:12:01Like a damn vampire
00:12:06You said it was true love
00:12:08But wouldn't I be hard?
00:12:10You can't love anyone
00:12:11Cause I wouldn't mean you had a heart
00:12:13I tried to help you out
00:12:15Now I know that I can't
00:12:16Cause I think it's the kind of thing
00:12:18I'll never understand
00:12:24I made some real big mistakes
00:12:28You made the worst one look fine
00:12:31I should have known
00:12:33It was strange
00:12:34You only come out at night
00:12:37I used to think I was smart
00:12:40You made me look so naive
00:12:43The way you sold me for parts
00:12:47You stuck your teeth into me
00:12:50Oh
00:12:50Oh
00:12:52Wow
00:12:53Plot sucker
00:12:55Dream crusher

00:13:40Really really incredible

00:14:06Here singing for my family and my community
00:14:11In January of 2025
00:14:13There was a wildfire that destroyed a lot of our community
00:14:19So much of our community burnt
00:14:21Like my preschool
00:14:23The first theater I ever performed in
00:14:25The home that I lived in until I was five
00:14:28My childhood best friend's homes
00:14:38It was a really
00:14:40It's been a really hard time
00:14:41Seeing the town that I grew up in completely gone
00:14:47After the fires it was really hard to just find joy in the little things
00:14:51But it's taught me a lot
00:14:52It's taught me when everyone comes together
00:14:55It can be so strong
00:14:56Well sorry for all of that
00:14:58I know the pain that that community is going through
00:15:01And to have such a bright spot like you to come in and represent is fantastic
00:15:05Thank you
00:15:07I want to vote
00:15:09Please
00:15:09Luke, Luke, calm down
00:15:10I want to vote
00:15:11Calm down
00:15:11Talk about it
00:15:12What do you want to do, Lionel?

00:15:46But I've learned that I can keep powering through and the light will keep on shining
00:15:50Hollywood week is upon you

00:18:43I'm still not quite clear
00:18:45On that element of it
00:18:48Yeah

00:18:51But it's a real optimistic no
00:18:52Okay
00:18:53You have a good voice
00:18:55I would love to like
00:18:56Hear more fire in there
00:18:57It's just crazy
00:18:58I know, I know
00:18:59But if you can find that sass
00:19:02And push your voice
00:19:03Yeah
00:19:04I think you deserve a chance to do that
00:19:06Thank you
00:19:07So it's a yes for me
00:19:08Cool
00:19:09I'm going to work my butt off
00:19:14I'm a no
00:19:14Okay
00:19:16Thank you
00:19:16Before I go
00:19:17Can I sing it with you
00:19:18Let's do it
00:19:19Okay
00:19:21That's so cool
00:19:22That you would ask
00:19:25Okay
00:19:27Can you start
00:19:28Or do I have to start
00:19:29Did y'all plan this?
00:19:31No
00:19:33Alright, I'll go
00:19:34Okay
00:19:47I was hoping that the saying no part would get easier
00:19:57And it did not
00:19:59It's a no for me
00:20:01And it's
00:20:02I was like 15 years old
00:20:04And I had a chance
00:20:07And it didn't work out
00:20:08And if it had
00:20:09It would have been the worst thing
00:20:10That had ever happened to me
00:20:11So just
00:20:13Keep at it, girlfriend
00:20:15I don't want to BS these kids
00:20:17I don't want to fluff them
00:20:18You know
00:20:19I want to make sure they understand
00:20:21They're not ready yet
00:20:22I would really like to see you
00:20:24Spend more time
00:20:25Working on your
00:20:26On your vocals
00:20:27Yeah, it's a no for me
00:20:30It's a no for me, bud
00:20:31Thank you for being here
00:20:32Thank y'all
00:20:33Thank you
00:20:33Thank you, man
00:20:35Still the no
00:20:36You always just want to
00:20:38Really reassure them
00:20:40That
00:20:41It's not their time yet
00:20:42I'm going to give you
00:20:43An encouraging no
00:20:44I want to push you
00:20:46And I want you to find
00:20:47Some fire in there
00:20:48Thank you
00:20:48And for them to go
00:20:50Continue their path
00:20:51In the music business
00:20:52Sweet home
00:20:56Tonight, tonight
00:20:58I'm on my way
00:21:02I'm on my way
00:21:06Sweet home
00:21:10There you go
00:21:11It was like
00:21:12One of the best moments
00:21:13Of my life
00:21:14Aw, thank you
00:21:15Thank you
00:21:15Lionel, they rehearsed that
00:21:17Some way
00:21:18Of course they did
00:21:19Thank you
00:21:19I'm on my way
00:21:23I'm on my way
00:21:25Oh, no
00:21:26I finally sang that piece of pepper
00:21:27Out of my throat
00:21:28Oh, God
00:21:28Luke, be careful
00:21:31Tonight, tonight
00:21:32No
00:21:33Yeah
00:21:34It's okay
00:21:35I got to sing with Carrie
00:21:36You guys are heartless
00:21:38We are not heartless
00:21:39We are heartless
00:21:40I'm 1,000%
00:21:41Going to keep singing
00:21:42It's my whole life
00:21:43It's what I believe
00:21:44I was put on this earth
00:21:45I've got to do
00:21:45And I'm going to keep doing it
00:21:47All right
00:21:48I'm on my way
00:21:50I'm on my way
00:21:53Home sweet home
00:22:00My name is Michael Garner
00:22:01I'm from Palestine, Arkansas
00:22:03And I'm a sophomore
00:22:04In high school
00:22:04Hey, y'all
00:22:05What's up?
00:22:06All right
00:22:06Hey
00:22:06Gosh, how old are you?
00:22:08I'm 16 years old
00:22:10That's great
00:22:12When I found out
00:22:13I was going to be able
00:22:14To audition
00:22:14I started busting out crying
00:22:16Me and my mom
00:22:17My dad
00:22:17We're going to give you a shot
00:22:18Are you serious?
00:22:20Yes, I am serious
00:22:21I feel like this audition
00:22:23Could definitely change my lives
00:22:25And my family's lives
00:22:26But you're a long way
00:22:29He's going to do great
00:22:30We all believe in him
00:22:32We're behind you
00:22:33We love you
00:22:35I've watched Idol
00:22:37With my family
00:22:38For a long time
00:22:40This has always been mine
00:22:41And their dream
00:22:42I always said that
00:22:43I was going to be on there someday
00:22:45And here I am
00:22:46But what do you do in Arkansas
00:22:48Other than music?
00:22:49You know, deer hunt
00:22:50Duck hunt
00:22:51The only thing there really is
00:22:52In Arkansas
00:22:52Is football games
00:22:53And back roads, you know
00:22:54A little bit nervous
00:22:55Going in there?
00:22:55Yeah, I think so
00:22:56This is the biggest stage
00:22:57He's ever been on runs
00:22:58It's a big one
00:22:59Yeah
00:22:59What kind of music are you into?
00:23:01Country
00:23:02All right
00:23:02This man says what he says
00:23:04And he says what he says
00:23:05I like it
00:23:06Man a few words
00:23:07What are you going to sing?
00:23:08I'm going to sing
00:23:08I'm Still Fine
00:23:09By the Red Clay Straits
00:23:10Perfect
00:23:11All right
00:23:11Let's hear it
00:23:14I'm on display
00:23:18I've lost my way
00:23:21Oh God, I pray
00:23:25Let this pass over
00:23:28I lost the note
00:23:32I rocked the ball
00:23:35I've lost my composure
00:23:41People here living it up
00:23:44I think they're blind
00:23:46I think they're out of their mind
00:23:50Like one of them has had this
00:23:56God's not giving me up
00:23:58No, I'm just fine
00:24:01No, I'm just fine
00:24:02It's just a matter of time
00:24:05No, I can't feel my sadness
00:24:09I know that it should be there
00:24:12Baby, I'm just too tired to care
00:24:16Cause I'm still fine
00:24:22All right
00:24:23Thank you
00:24:28Where's he going?
00:24:29Boom
00:24:30Boom
00:24:30There you go
00:24:32Boom
00:24:32I wish you were like 20 years old
00:24:36I mean, I believe I'm ready
00:24:37You know, I'm willing to give y'all everything I got
00:24:40Yeah, you are
00:24:41You're really good
00:24:41Whatever happens today
00:24:43You're on the right path
00:24:45Yes, ma'am
00:24:45What you do with your voice
00:24:48Is definitely beyond 16
00:24:50Like, I feel like you have a control
00:24:51And a composure about yourself
00:24:54I think I'm gonna
00:24:55I'm gonna be wrestling over here
00:24:58I think your opening was just nerves
00:25:02That look has not caught up
00:25:03To that matured voice
00:25:05I have to think about this
00:25:07While Luke is talking to you
00:25:09If we say no to him
00:25:10What are we doing here?
00:25:12Yeah, yeah
00:25:12I know what you're saying
00:25:13In my opinion
00:25:13I mean, I know he's young
00:25:15But we're all saying that he sings great
00:25:21She's just playing guitar great
00:25:23And he's singing pretty daggone good
00:25:26So I look at you
00:25:28And I see my son
00:25:31And I would not throw him in the middle of it
00:25:36Where you are at 16
00:25:38So that's where I'm coming from
00:25:41A no for me
00:25:46What do we do with this young prodigy?
00:25:54It's a yes for me
00:25:55Nice
00:26:07Tears
00:26:07Ticket
00:26:11Congratulations
00:26:12Come over here young man
00:26:13Was that terrifying?
00:26:15I mean
00:26:15Flying in front of him
00:26:18We did it
00:26:18We're going to Hollywood week
00:26:20Let's go
00:26:20He's going to do Justin Bieber
00:26:21That scares the crap out of me
00:26:24Listen
00:26:24Listen, you're right
00:26:25And all I can think about
00:26:27Is Justin Timberlake
00:26:33You can't take the mama
00:26:35You can't take the mama out of me
00:26:37Since when do you have a heart
00:26:40And you're a mother?
00:26:42Miss Carrie
00:26:43I just want to say
00:26:45I'm going to prove to you
00:26:47That I have what it takes
00:26:54It's been a good day
00:26:57Hello, hello
00:26:58Hey
00:26:59Tell us all about yourself
00:27:02My name is Sheldon Riley
00:27:03I'm 26 years old
00:27:04From Melbourne, Australia
00:27:07Melbourne
00:27:08What you doing here?
00:27:10American Idol, huh?
00:27:11You're crazy
00:27:16I wanted to do music
00:27:17Since I was a really young kid
00:27:19When I was maybe about 15 years old
00:27:21I sung at my school
00:27:24And I remember that first applause
00:27:25I was like
00:27:26Yeah, this is what I want to do
00:27:27I love the way it made me feel
00:27:29I love the way that it made me feel noticed
00:27:32About 10 years ago
00:27:33I auditioned for a big TV show
00:27:35Back in Australia
00:27:37It was my big moment
00:27:39And I sung my song
00:27:42And they said it wasn't quite enough
00:27:45Just you singing, it's not enough
00:27:47That experience made me doubt myself
00:27:52It made me feel I had to play a character
00:27:54Just to be seen
00:27:58I kind of created this character
00:27:59That dressed up like crazy
00:28:01The most avant-garde, high fashion
00:28:03Crystals and diamonds
00:28:05And it was the thing that made people see me
00:28:07You'll be my resolution
00:28:09It just kind of took off
00:28:11I had opportunities like crazy
00:28:13Not just Australia
00:28:14But the entire world
00:28:15Characters of no new show
00:28:18I've been on every TV show competition
00:28:21Known to men
00:28:21I've done it all
00:28:22And the art was just getting crazier
00:28:25And crazier and crazier
00:28:26It almost felt like an addiction
00:28:28To be the most memorable person in the room
00:28:31But I'd come home
00:28:33I'd take the mask off
00:28:35The makeup
00:28:36The accessories
00:28:37The everything
00:28:37And I would hate the person
00:28:40That I saw in the mirror
00:28:40Hated that version of me
00:28:47So I took two years off
00:28:50And remembered
00:28:52Why that little kid got up on stage
00:28:54That first time
00:28:54And this is the one show
00:28:56There's no smoke
00:28:57There's no mirrors
00:28:58No nothing
00:28:58And I said to myself
00:28:59If I was going to come back into music
00:29:01It would be here
00:29:02With just the piano
00:29:03And just me
00:29:03And if you don't like it
00:29:05You don't like it
00:29:06I don't ever know
00:29:07If anyone's ever really going to want
00:29:08What I have to give
00:29:09Without everything
00:29:11That I usually put on
00:29:13That's a big part of why I'm here
00:29:15Just to remind myself
00:29:17That my voice is enough
00:29:20Everybody's got their version
00:29:22Of what you just said
00:29:24You know
00:29:24Everybody's got their mask
00:29:26Whether it is something physical
00:29:27That they hide behind
00:29:28Or this certain identity
00:29:31That they've created for themselves
00:29:33And you know
00:29:34Then of course you do worry
00:29:36That if I wasn't that
00:29:37Would anyone still love me?
00:29:40Yeah
00:29:40You're very relatable
00:29:41Thank you
00:29:42What are you going to sing
00:29:43For us today?

00:31:50Crazy unbelievable
00:31:52Thank you
00:31:53Don't know why you ever had to wear the mask
00:31:55Because you're an amazing looking person
00:31:56Yeah
00:31:57You being the loudest guy in the room
00:31:59You don't always have to be that
00:32:01Being the most dynamic singer in the room
00:32:03You don't have to be that
00:32:04It's okay to just peel a layer off
00:32:07But that was impressive
00:32:09Thank you
00:32:10You're an artist man

00:34:33I'm a wild one
00:34:36Gonna break loose
00:34:38Gonna keep it moving baby
00:34:39Don't you cramp my style
00:34:41I'ma real wild child
00:34:42Why'd you give her back?
00:34:44You don't give her back
00:34:45Keep her dancing
00:34:46I'm playing home, Fred Lee
00:34:47Cramp my style
00:34:49I'ma real wild child
00:35:01Encore
00:35:01Way, way, way
00:35:02We need more
00:35:03We're about to have another song, right?
00:35:05I think we do
00:35:05I think we do
00:35:06We're gonna need one
00:35:07Get the energy going
00:35:07Alright, sure
00:35:37Wow
00:35:38That was stuffed
00:35:39Deep in the jeans she's wearing
00:35:42I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
00:35:44Oh baby
00:35:45Wanna come with ya
00:35:47And take your picture
00:35:49My homeboys tried to warn me
00:35:52But the fuck you got make me so
00:35:55Fellas
00:35:56Yeah
00:36:07Fellas
00:36:29I like you, Trace.
00:36:32Luke, what do you think?
00:36:34Oh, Casanova.
00:36:36I think it's probably a stretch for American Idol, but I can appreciate your ministry.
00:36:42Yeah, thanks.
00:36:44Joy, humor, I love what you did.
00:36:48Honestly, when I tell you that.
00:36:50But unfortunately, this is a competition.
00:36:53Right.
00:36:53I don't want to let you guys vote.
00:36:57Yeah.
00:36:57I'm in charge here.
00:36:58I like big butts and I cannot lie.
00:37:03I fear you, Carrie.
00:37:04I know what you're saying.
00:37:05I think we need you.
00:37:05I think you're a morale booster for all of us.
00:37:08I'm thinking of myself and my fellow judges and all the people that work on this show
00:37:12and all the joy you would bring as you go forth.
00:37:15So I'm going to give you a yes.
00:37:18All right.
00:37:21I'm going to give you a no.
00:37:24All right.
00:37:26What is it, Lionel?
00:37:36I never thought I would have Carrie Underwood fighting for me, but hey, I guess I'm just a cowboy
00:37:42Casanova.
00:37:43He's the class clown.
00:37:48It's one of her songs.
00:37:52We've got to check y'all's ears.
00:37:53This slice of Casanova cake is going to Hollywood week.
00:38:00I feel that some things just have to be pursued.
00:38:04No, this was great.
00:38:07I followed you, Carrie.
00:38:09What is happening?
00:38:10What is happening?
00:38:12Hi.
00:38:13Who do you listen to?
00:38:14Carrie, you've been like my vocal inspiration for as long as I can remember.
00:38:18Very cool.
00:38:19Like, cowboy Casanova just has a very special place in my heart.
00:38:22Can you kind of give us a little taste?
00:38:24Let's hope I remember the lyrics.
00:38:26I will help you.
00:38:26Yeah, she knows all the lyrics, so just look at her.
00:38:31He's a good time cowboy Casanova leaning up against the record machine.
00:38:40Look at her face.
00:38:41You've got to get some stink face going on.
00:38:42He's a devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes, and he only comes to die tonight.
00:38:47Oh my gosh, you're so good.
00:38:49I'm like fangirling.
00:38:50I can't believe this is happening.
00:38:51That was great.
00:38:52Come on in, guys.
00:38:53Come on, guys.
00:38:54There you go.
00:38:55This is my instrument for today.
00:38:58Love it.
00:38:58Well, you brought enough back up, I would say.
00:39:00Tell us who you are, and then who are those people behind you?
00:39:05Yeah.
00:39:05Well, my name is Kitty Tay.
00:39:07I'm 22, and I'm from Levine, Arizona, and this is Mosaic Whispers, my college a cappella
00:39:12group, and I thought I'd share one of my songs with y'all with them as my instrument.
00:39:16Okay.
00:39:17What are you going to sing for us?
00:39:18We're going to sing Masterpiece by Jasmine Sullivan.
00:39:20Wow.
00:39:21Let's have it.
00:39:22Let's sing.
00:39:23Let's sing.
00:39:23My eyes ain't used to these rays.
00:39:27I'm feeling exposed, but I can't hide no more.
00:39:33I can't hide.
00:39:35As the sun shines on all of the glory, my flaws don't look so bad at all.
00:39:41What was I so afraid of?
00:39:46Every part of me is a vision
00:39:49Of a portrait of Mona
00:39:51Of Mona Lisa
00:39:56Every part of me is beautiful
00:39:59And I'll finally see
00:40:02I'm a work of art
00:40:05I'm a masterpiece
00:40:13Of Mona Lisa
00:40:18Wow, wow.
00:40:20That was amazing.
00:40:22Thank you so much.
00:40:22That was amazing.
00:40:23I want to tell you I really enjoyed it.
00:40:28You got it, Lionel.
00:40:29Yeah, they had that .
00:40:32Thank you so much.
00:40:35Carrie?
00:40:35Very sweet.
00:40:37I feel like you were so sweet and smiley.
00:40:41I feel like it needed maybe a little more staying in character.
00:40:45Okay.
00:40:45Just a little bit.
00:40:46Okay.
00:40:46But you have a fabulous voice.
00:40:49Absolutely.
00:40:50Thank you so much.
00:40:51Luke?
00:40:51Surprisingly, you got a nice country tone to it.
00:40:55But soulful country.
00:40:56Yeah, soulful country.
00:40:57And even on the song with the whole group, you really had some great vocal moments too.
00:41:03Okay, thank you.
00:41:04Let's vote.
00:41:05Carrie?
00:41:05I would like to hear more.
00:41:07It's a yes for me.
00:41:09Oh my gosh.
00:41:12Yes.
00:41:13Yay!
00:41:14It's a yes for me.
00:41:15Without a doubt.
00:41:18Welcome to the university.
00:41:20Oh my gosh.
00:41:21You got it.
00:41:21Thank you so much.
00:41:23It's so nice to meet you.
00:41:24So nice to meet you.
00:41:25So good, you guys.
00:41:27Hey.
00:41:27Fantastic.
00:41:29Great support.
00:41:32That was amazing.
00:41:35Oh my gosh.
00:41:35Can't really believe what just happened.
00:41:37But it's okay.
00:41:38Pinch me.
00:41:41She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:45She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:46She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:49She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:49I couldn't stop looking at her baby knees.
00:41:52Her what?
00:41:53Baby knees.
00:41:55When you have like a face in your knees.
00:41:58Oh really?
00:41:59Do you know baby knees?
00:42:00I've never heard of that.
00:42:01I have baby knees.
00:42:03Oh really?
00:42:03Right after Kate and William had their baby George, right?
00:42:08Right.
00:42:09Yeah, George.
00:42:09My knees were in a magazine and it was like Prince George's face is in Carrie Underwood's knees.
00:42:16And I was like, what the crap is going on with my knees?
00:42:20So I have baby faces in my knees and I can make them sing too.
00:42:25You can make them sing?
00:42:26I was like, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
00:42:30I gotta shake my knees now.
00:42:32All right.
00:42:34That's crazy.
00:42:53Ah, there we are.
00:42:55Hello.
00:42:56Good.
00:42:57How are you?
00:42:57Great.
00:42:58What's your name?
00:42:59Hannah Harper.
00:43:00Where are you from?
00:43:00Willow Springs, Missouri.
00:43:02Where did you get that dress?
00:43:03This was homemade.
00:43:05If this doesn't scream yee haw, I don't know what will.
00:43:08What kind of music do you perform, listen to?
00:43:11I grew up doing bluegrass.
00:43:13My family had a bluegrass gospel band.
00:43:15Went church to church and sang at churches.
00:43:19I grew up in a super musical family.
00:43:21My dad worked at the lead mine for several years.
00:43:23One evening he was just feeling like God was calling him to do something different with his life.
00:43:28So in 2009 my parents quit their jobs and we bought a bus and we went on the road as
00:43:32a family band.
00:43:34The tour bus was 40 foot long.
00:43:37It was bright red and we lived on the bus for seven years.
00:43:41We just would go coast to coast and play banjos and sing for the Lord.
00:43:46It was a very unconventional upbringing but I literally wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
00:43:59We didn't come back into Missouri until 2016.
00:44:01We settled back down and then I met my husband.
00:44:04We got married and we found out we were pregnant with our first baby like four months after we got
00:44:08married.
00:44:09Every morning.
00:44:10Oh!
00:44:11Right in the noggin.
00:44:12I'm sorry, buddy.
00:44:14Then one turned to three really fast.
00:44:16With three boys it comes a lot of chaos.
00:44:18Same old coffee.
00:44:19And a lot of fun.
00:44:21Same old coffee.
00:44:22Same old coffee.
00:44:22Watch your head.
00:44:23Cy, why are you standing up there?
00:44:25Same old house.
00:44:27Same old stuff.
00:44:28It's just hectic at all times.
00:44:31Mom, just some pizza paper.
00:44:33Or is he trying to wind up?
00:44:35Let's eat some pizza and then you can go take a nap.
00:44:37Do you want a banana?
00:44:38No!
00:44:39No!
00:44:40I'm trying out for the show just because I want the opportunity to give the boys the same life that
00:44:43I had growing up.
00:44:45In a bigger way, if possible, to be able to sustain my family and do music full time.
00:44:52I have two boys.
00:44:54They make things more interesting.
00:44:55Oh, for sure.
00:44:56Mine's been screaming all day.
00:44:58Good!
00:44:58Yay!
00:44:59That's great!
00:45:00Love it.
00:45:00What are you going to sing for us today?
00:45:02I'm going to sing an original that I wrote called String Cheese.
00:45:04You're like my favorite person.
00:45:06You're wearing homemade clothes.
00:45:08You're singing songs called String Cheese.
00:45:10What's the song about?
00:45:11My youngest is one.
00:45:13And shortly after he was born, I had postpartum depression.
00:45:15And so I was sitting on my couch.
00:45:16I said I wasn't going to cry.
00:45:20I was sitting on my couch wallowing.
00:45:24And you have boys, you know, everybody wants to touch you.
00:45:28And I didn't want to be touched.
00:45:31And my youngest son, like, I was just having a pity party.
00:45:35Praying that the Lord would calm my spirit.
00:45:40And my son kept coming up to me.
00:45:41He said, Mom, open this.
00:45:43Mom, open this.
00:45:43Open my cheese.
00:45:44I'm like, leave me alone with the dadgum cheese.
00:45:46And I finally opened his cheese.
00:45:48And when I did, I realized that God had put me in that place.
00:45:50And that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have.
00:45:55And being a mom.
00:45:57So I gathered myself.
00:45:59And I got up off the couch.
00:46:00And I quit throwing a pity party.
00:46:01And I realized that that was exactly what I wanted.
00:46:05And I kind of kicked the postpartum depression in the butt.
00:46:08And I said, I ain't doing it.
00:46:10There you go.
00:46:10So I wrote this song called String Cheese.
00:46:14Do you need a second?
00:46:15I want to give you like...
00:46:16Probably just give me one second.
00:46:18Yeah, yeah.
00:46:19I can't cry and sing.
00:46:21So I don't want to put you in that position.
00:46:24That is a tough one.
00:46:25Here.
00:46:25Thank you so much.
00:46:34Ready?
00:46:35I think so.
00:46:48I warm my morning coffee up for the third time.
00:46:53Miss Rachel on the TV with their favorite nursery rhyme.
00:47:00Hot wheels and little people under my feet.
00:47:05Baby's crying.
00:47:07It's pure chaos, but I don't miss a beat.
00:47:12Always knew that a nine to five wouldn't suit me very good.
00:47:18But my hours are extended.
00:47:21That's just motherhood.
00:47:24I never knew this is what my twenties would look like.
00:47:30But they saved me before I had the chance to waste my life.
00:47:36One day I'll be alone with a hot, fresh cup of joe.
00:47:42Wishing that someone would just drop me by.
00:47:48And I'll sit and reminisce on times that I sure miss.
00:47:54I've scattered toys and a baby on my hip.
00:48:00I thought finding peace in the quiet's what I wanted.
00:48:06But I'd do anything to go back to being needed.
00:48:12To those days I want to cry, run away and hide.
00:48:19But I'd worry about their every need.
00:48:24When I'm overwhelmed and touched out.
00:48:28They come climbing up on the couch.
00:48:32Saying, Mama, can you open my strange cheeks?
00:48:37I smile because I know meeting their needs fills my soul.
00:48:43Being there, Mama, is who I'm meant to be.
00:48:49I love you.
00:48:49I love you.
00:48:53That's great.
00:48:54Do you have more questions?
00:48:57My turn.
00:49:00This pack is going quick.
00:49:05Well that's about the most relatable song I think I've ever heard.
00:49:12Hannah, great job.
00:49:14Great job.
00:49:15Just with that mountainous bluegrass sound that you have in there.
00:49:21I kept thinking like Kacey Musgraves is in there.
00:49:24I kept thinking certainly Alison Krauss.
00:49:27A little dolly.
00:49:28A little dolly in there.
00:49:30And gosh, even if we got you to lean in more on it.
00:49:33Fill the room a little more.
00:49:34You're going to be able to move some people.
00:49:36A great song.
00:49:37Way to really write the moment you're in.
00:49:40Yeah.
00:49:41I want you to use Dolly as the example of two things.
00:49:45One, her storytelling ability.
00:49:47And two, she has the ability to tell that story and then give us a lift.
00:49:52You've got the range.
00:49:54I would have loved to have found you just on one of those lines.
00:49:57Just hold it for a minute.
00:49:59I was going up but then I chickened out because I was crying.
00:50:02Yeah, it was hard to come from a tear.
00:50:04It is.
00:50:04You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors in the past three days.
00:50:10You're gorgeous.
00:50:12Like you look famous already.
00:50:15I just think you have just a beautiful simplicity to your voice.
00:50:19You're one that I'm going to think about when we leave here.
00:50:22Like, I wonder what song she's going to sing next.
00:50:25And I feel like I'm going to be just rooting for you.
00:50:27I loved everything about everything you just did.
00:50:31Thank you so much.
00:50:32I mean, it's a yes.
00:50:32I'll go first.
00:50:33It's a yes for me.
00:50:34I'll go second.
00:50:35It's a yes for me.
00:50:36Yes for me.
00:50:37Heck yeah, brother.
00:50:39Get this.
00:50:39You are going to Hollywood Week.
00:50:42It's nice to meet you too.
00:50:44Oh my God, I'm chicken.
00:50:50Hearing Carrie say that I was one of her favorite people that has walked through the doors,
00:50:53I almost melted in my boots.
00:50:54That's the biggest compliment I've ever received.
00:50:56She was great.
00:50:58Goodness.
00:50:59It means a lot to me to get up there and stand and represent other moms.
00:51:04And let them know that they're not alone.
00:51:06And let them know that they can still chase their dreams with their little people.
00:51:09Some real juice on that one.
00:51:12Unassuming.
00:51:13Sweet.
00:51:14Perfectly moldable into stardom.
00:51:23Yeah.
00:51:26Can you help me put it on the fridge?
00:51:31Good job.
00:51:43She said love don't come easy.
00:51:46It's a game of give and take.
00:51:48I remember mama's dad.
00:51:49Oh, I miss me.
00:51:51Have you seen the guy do those?
00:51:53With pins and stuff?
00:51:54Is that one of your TikToks?
00:51:55Yeah, that's TikTok.
00:51:56I could tell right away.
00:51:57He's on the TikTok doom scroll.
00:52:03Oh, man.
00:52:04I remember swearing off TikTok and now I'm a TikToker.
00:52:11Is he down?
00:52:13Is he down?
00:52:14Look.
00:52:15Look.
00:52:17I'm addicted to TikTok.
00:52:19I'll just go on and say it if anybody wants to intervene.
00:52:24Oh, look at that.
00:52:26Heist it for hours.
00:52:28Heist it for hours.
00:52:30Heist it for hours.
00:52:31Heist it for hours.
00:52:32Heist it for hours.
00:52:32Heist it for hours.
00:52:33Heist it for hours.
00:52:33Whoa, my.
00:52:35And now I'm actually scrolling, finding talent that somehow makes it in front of us judges.
00:52:42Well, tell us how you made it here.
00:52:44Somebody happened to see me.
00:52:46That's right.
00:52:48What's your dreams in music?
00:52:50I want to go from being a TikTok singer to a real singer.
00:52:54And I also really want a Birkin bag.
00:52:56Oh.
00:52:57I've been everywhere, man, looking for you, babe.
00:53:01Looking for you, babe.
00:53:03Searching for you, babe.
00:53:05But Lord, I've had a lot of no's.
00:53:07I don't want to tell you no, because I feel like I'm responsible for bringing you here.
00:53:11But it's a no for me right now.
00:53:13Don't tell him I've gone crazy.
00:53:16It's going to be a no for me this trip.
00:53:18I agree.
00:53:19It's a no for me.
00:53:21Obviously, I'm learning that TikTok has filters on it to make you sound amazing.
00:53:26So, maybe I need to go find those filters and sing on them myself.
00:53:31All right.
00:53:32Tell the world how you arrived here.
00:53:34I had somebody message me and they were like, hey, come on in.

00:55:22I just get this vibe about you.
00:55:24We're gonna start some fights.
00:55:26I think on the show, she's definitely still her silly self.
00:55:30She's a little crazy, and I love it.
00:55:33Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:55:36I have an announcement.
00:55:37What about me?
00:55:38You guys, seriously.
00:55:40What about me?
00:55:42What about me?
00:55:46Brittany has always been a very big mentor to me.
00:55:50So get out there.
00:55:51Okay, everybody, look out.
00:55:53Okay.
00:55:53She has her own spotlight.
00:55:55She's living out her dream, and that's why I'm here too.
00:55:58She is music.
00:55:59I mean, she radiates music out of her pores.
00:56:03You look about it.
00:56:04It just explodes.
00:56:05Yeah.
00:56:06She bubbles in light.
00:56:07Yeah.
00:56:09Carmelita.
00:56:10That's my theme song.
00:56:11You go in there, and you rush it.
00:56:13My lovely Carmelita.
00:56:15Brittany, you could stand to the side and just sing Carmelita.
00:56:17She comes in, and they don't know what this is.
00:56:19That's the entrance.
00:56:21Carmelita.
00:56:23I really should do that.
00:56:24Does anyone have a glass and a knife?
00:56:28Why do you have a wine glass?
00:56:30Uh, you'll see.
00:56:35Howdy, howdy, howdy.
00:56:36Hello.

00:56:41How are y'all?
00:56:41What do you have?
00:56:44I have an announcement.
00:56:45What is the announcement?
00:56:46This is my beautiful niece, Carmelita.
00:56:51That's been her nickname since she was born.
00:56:53Carmelita?
00:56:54That is me.
00:56:55Do you know me?
00:56:56I'm Brittany.
00:56:58Brittany Bateman.
00:57:01The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:57:03Oh, we are.
00:57:04Yes.
00:57:05But this is not about me.
00:57:06This is about my amazing, gorgeous, perfect niece.
00:57:10Hi.
00:57:10Who you're about to hear, and it's insane.
00:57:13Well, if we don't have good things to say, she has a knife.
00:57:16She has a weapon.
00:57:17So, all right, Miss Brittany, you can go right there on that X.
00:57:21Yes.
00:57:21Be careful.
00:57:21Don't fall over there.
00:57:22Give away the spotlight to the niece.
00:57:25All right, let's hear it.
00:57:26Let's hear it.
00:57:27Okay.
00:57:27Do you guys want this?
00:57:29Yes.
00:57:29For good keeping?
00:57:30Oh, good keeping.
00:57:31Sure.
00:57:31Yes?
00:57:32Let's do it, Miss Carmen.
00:57:34Okay.
00:57:35Okay.
00:57:39Okay.
00:57:40I woke up with a headache today, cause I've got a mortgage due, and an empty bed to make.
00:57:55Baby, I bet you're happy now, probably found just someone new, who's got his life all figured out.
00:58:10Girl, I thought it was love.
00:58:17Girl, I knew it was love.
00:58:24I guess I didn't know what love was.
00:58:41Good job.
00:58:42You have a really pretty voice.
00:58:45Like, your range is really great.
00:58:47You're hitting some high notes in there, but it would be great if you could put some oomph in there.
00:58:53Yeah.
00:58:53We actually might have something to sing together.
00:58:56Oh.
00:58:57Let's hear y'all do one.
00:58:59Okay.
00:59:00Let's see where you go.
00:59:01Just sing.
00:59:01Have fun like you're in the living room.
00:59:03You got it.
00:59:04Okay.
00:59:06Let me be your star.
00:59:14I just have to forget the hurt that came below.
00:59:20I forget what used to be.
00:59:23The past is on the cutting room floor.
00:59:27The future is here with me.
00:59:34Just me.
00:59:37It's all you've been needing.
00:59:41It's all here and my heart's bleeding.
00:59:44Let me be your star.
00:59:57Oh.
00:59:57Wow.
00:59:58That was great.
00:59:58Wow.
01:00:00I learned.
01:00:01Oh, you sound so good.
01:00:02Yeah, I think the...
01:00:03Friends and the family.
01:00:04I learned something.
01:00:06It's very good.
01:00:07It was very present there.
01:00:08We just got to get you to cut loose a little bit.
01:00:11I think the piano is forcing you to be very proper.
01:00:14Oh, you should see me with a band.
01:00:15Well, we got to get you to the band.
01:00:18That's very true.
01:00:19That's very true.
01:00:20I think that the only way she's going to actually understand this thing called roughing up is to put her
01:00:27in a brawl.
01:00:28And the only way to put you in a brawl is to say yes so you can go to the
01:00:32next level and meet the rest of this crazy class.
01:00:35And you'll understand what this means.
01:00:38Oh, yeah.
01:00:38Okay?
01:00:39So it's a yes for me.
01:00:40Okay.
01:00:41I think your voice has definitely earned you a yes.
01:00:44But I want to see some fire.
01:00:47I can show it.
01:00:48I kind of believe you can.
01:00:50It's a yes.
01:00:51Hey!
01:00:53Let me see the glass.
01:00:54Boom, boom.
01:00:55Ding, ding, ding.
01:00:56Not too hard there.
01:00:56Not too hard.
01:00:57I need you to come get your golden ticket.
01:01:00Oh, my God!
01:01:03I have an announcement.
01:01:05We're going to Hollywood.
01:01:06You're going to holiday.
01:01:08Oops.
01:01:09You're going to Hollywood.
01:01:11You're going to...
01:01:12Here's a joy.
01:01:16Let's get a little singer.
01:01:18I have an announcement.
01:01:20I swear, I swear.
01:01:22I think today I played it very safe.
01:01:24But they will see the fire that is inside me.
01:01:27And they will see me roar.
01:01:28I concur.
01:01:30She didn't seem villainous.
01:01:32No!
01:01:33Nice to meet you.
01:01:35Thank you for coming.
01:01:36Seriously, thank you.
01:01:37By the way, are you still dating Jared?
01:01:40Is that true?
01:01:41Is that real?
01:01:41I was always wondering.
01:01:45Lean on me.
01:01:47When you're not strong.
01:01:51I'll be afraid.
01:01:52I'll help you carry on.
01:01:58For it won't be long.
01:02:02Till I'm going to need somebody to lean on.
01:02:09I just might have a problem.
01:02:12Come on.
01:02:12Then you understand.
01:02:14We all need somebody to lean on.
01:02:20You just call me.
01:02:23You just call me.
01:02:25Yeah, you just call me.
01:02:29You just call me.
01:02:33Cool.
01:02:34All right.
01:02:35Woo!
01:02:36Wow!
01:02:37Thank you so much.
01:02:38I have never seen you just jump out of that chair.
01:02:42It made me happy!
01:02:43She was like, I was like, is she going to rush the artist?
01:02:45I think it is because, you know, you did your own thing with it.
01:02:50It sounded fresh.
01:02:51And I feel like it was such a smart song choice.
01:02:55It was just, muah!
01:02:58You know, I'm telling you, familiarity is everything.
01:03:01A big voice.
01:03:02Once you go to the kaboom, it's magnificent.
01:03:08You took that song that the world has heard a million times, and you made it very authentically
01:03:15you, which that says you're an artist in your own mind, in your own right.
01:03:20I appreciate it.
01:03:21T'nice, I'm a yay.
01:03:25I'm a yes.
01:03:26Yay.
01:03:26Yes.
01:03:27Yes!
01:03:28Thank you so much.
01:03:29There we go.
01:03:29Wow.
01:03:29You need this.
01:03:30Break the news.
01:03:31Can I come to you?
01:03:31Going to Hollywood Week.
01:03:32Okay.
01:03:33Thank you so much.
01:03:34Can I shake your hands?
01:03:35Oh, police.
01:03:36It was an absolute pleasure.
01:03:37Pleasure.
01:03:37The standing ovation from Carrie Underwood was insane.
01:03:40And here he comes.
01:03:46Just call me when you need a friend.
01:03:50I'm going to Hollywood Week.
01:03:57I appreciate you coming.
01:03:58It means a world, you know, I know you're going to do great.
01:04:01You got it.
01:04:03Love you, though.
01:04:04Love you.
01:04:06My name is Braden Rumfelt.
01:04:08I'm 22 years old, and I'm from Murphy, North Carolina.
01:04:11You still got it.
01:04:13Ay!
01:04:16Oh, no.
01:04:17When I was young, my life revolved around baseball.
01:04:20My twin brother, Kellen, and I played sports constantly.
01:04:25Dad was dead set on us becoming college athletes.
01:04:32Unfortunately, going into high school, I was starting to have knee pain in both of my legs.
01:04:36Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:38Then I found out that I have a congenital issue.
01:04:42My legs are naturally in the wrong position.
01:04:47I needed surgery.
01:04:49I needed two lower leg realigning.
01:04:53That put a stop to the dreams of becoming an athlete.
01:04:58It was tough seeing everybody be able to get to do what I wanted to do.
01:05:04As I'm hurt, it kind of hit me like, wait, I feel better when I am singing.
01:05:10And my twin brother, Kellen, was there for me.
01:05:14He was kind of like my voice of encouragement.
01:05:19Growing up until now, I always felt that his talent is music, is singing.
01:05:25And I couldn't be more proud of Braden because of everything that he's going through,
01:05:30where he's at now with pursuing his new dream.
01:05:32He's my hero.
01:05:35The only reason that I hadn't signed up for American Idol was because I was scared.
01:05:40This is my dream.
01:05:41I didn't know that I would get like a, you know, a chance like this.
01:05:45So this is, this is really awesome.
01:05:48What's up?
01:05:49Hey.
01:05:50Hi.
01:05:51How's it going?
01:05:52I'm really good.
01:05:53Who are you?
01:05:54My name's Braden Rumfelt.
01:05:56I'm 22 years old.
01:05:57I'm from Murphy, North Carolina.
01:05:58This is my twin, Kellen.
01:06:00Twin brother.
01:06:01Oh, yeah.
01:06:01Did y'all grow up playing music together?
01:06:03We did.
01:06:04As long as I've been sentient, I've been singing.
01:06:06Good deal.
01:06:07Good deal.
01:06:08What do you want to sing for us?
01:06:10Girl Crush by Little Big Town.
01:06:12Let's hear it.
01:06:13You ready?
01:06:14Yep.
01:06:14I'm ready to go.
01:06:21I got a girl crush.
01:06:25Hate to admit it, but I've got a hard rush.
01:06:33It's slowing down.
01:06:35Yeah, I want to taste her lips.
01:06:40Yeah, cause they taste like you.
01:06:44I want to drown myself in a bottle of herb for you.
01:06:51I want her long blood and hair.
01:06:55I want her magic crush.
01:06:59Yeah, cause maybe then you'd want me just as much.
01:07:06And I've got a girl crush.
01:07:13Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
01:07:34And I've got a girl crush.
01:08:11I want her.
01:08:11That's good.
01:08:11That's good.
01:08:13That's good.
01:08:13That's good.
01:08:14That's good.
01:08:14What do you think, Carrie?
01:08:15I'm happy.
01:08:16I'm happy.
01:08:17Surprising.
01:08:18I don't know what I expected to come out of your mouth, but that wasn't it.
01:08:22And it made me happy.
01:08:23I feel like you are very nervous.
01:08:27I am.
01:08:27You've got to loosen up.
01:08:28Like, I wanted to come out there and just, like, shake your arms and throw your vest across
01:08:33the room.
01:08:34And I think you're a racehorse, man.
01:08:36Don't you agree?
01:08:37I agree.
01:08:38You have a top end to your voice.
01:08:42It's not as high as Steve Perry, but the texture when you get up there is so sweet, man.
01:08:49Doesn't break.
01:08:49No, it does not.
01:08:51And we can wake the outside of you up to combine it with the inside of you, what's coming out.
01:08:59We've got show business.
01:09:02Oh, he can sing, y'all.
01:09:04Oh, yeah, he can.
01:09:04He can sing.
01:09:04Yes, he can.
01:09:05He's going to do really good in this competition.
01:09:06He's going to do really great.
01:09:07I think we can one, two, three it.
01:09:08Yeah.
01:09:09One, two, three.
01:09:10Here we go to Hollywood.
01:09:12Yeah.
01:09:13Hollywood Week.
01:09:13Let's go.
01:09:15Hollywood Week.
01:09:16It's going to be fun.
01:09:18Y'all are great.
01:09:19I appreciate it.

01:09:20Got to get a handshake on you, too, man.
01:09:22Come on.
01:09:22Don't be fooling around.
01:09:23Yes, sir.
01:09:23Good job, twin, brother.
01:09:25Great job.
01:09:26Good seeing you, man.
01:09:27All right.
01:09:27Yeah, good seeing you.
01:09:28Way to go.
01:09:28All right.
01:09:29Bye.
01:09:30Bye.
01:09:31Awesome.
01:09:32High five.
01:09:33We're fired up.
01:09:33We're fired up.
01:09:35Let's go.
01:09:36Like, are we?
01:09:38Is this real?
01:09:39You know, I almost wanted to pinch myself.
01:09:42That was nice.
01:09:44Heck yeah.
01:09:44I love it.
01:09:45Staying it.
01:09:45Staying it over.
01:09:46With the struggles that I've had over the years,
01:09:50couldn't be happier.
01:09:51He is 80% of what he could be doing.
01:09:54He's got such potential.
01:09:57Oh, my God.
01:10:00Oh, my God.
01:10:01Oh, my God.
01:10:04Oh, my God.
01:10:06That was crazy to see how well he did.
01:10:10We've got a lot of memories together under our belt.
01:10:13And I wouldn't be here without his help.
01:10:16And I love this guy.
01:10:18He's the best.
01:10:19You're going to make me cry, dude.
01:10:20I'm going to Hollywood week.
01:10:22It ain't slow in now.
01:10:31Old cowpoke went riding out of dark and windy days.
01:10:37Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way.
01:10:41When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw.
01:10:45Plowing through those ragged skies.
01:10:48His hand up the cloudy draw.
01:10:52Yippee-eye-eye-eye.
01:10:56Yippee-eye-eye.
01:11:00For this ghost rider's in the sky.
01:11:06Ah!
01:11:08Sorry.
01:11:09There you go.
01:11:10It happens.
01:11:11Ah, you know Matthew. I mean right now you're just doing it sing-along. We're talking about lead singer
01:11:18center stage crowd screaming at you
01:11:22I'm gonna give you a passionate. No because you're passionate about this business
01:11:27I think that passion is gonna take you a long way. Don't lose that spark man

01:11:40I'm gonna make the best of this moment. You have been on some amazing
01:11:46Platforms you've been with national reporting artists, but today
01:11:52Is your day? Hi
01:11:54Come on in
01:11:56What's your name? My name is Tiana Roberts. What brings you to us today?
01:12:02I'm just ready to get myself out there take the risk
01:12:06That's just kind of in my model for the year. No risk. No story. No risk. No story. What's the
01:12:11deal with that? Well
01:12:13Last year I had a miscarriage
01:12:16That moment made me realize that life is short and I could just think of all the things that I
01:12:21didn't do because I was too scared
01:12:23I decided that the risk was worth the sacrifice
01:12:26So no risk no story. So here I am
01:12:30I like that very good. Well, what are you gonna be singing for us? I'm gonna be singing a hymn
01:12:35called pass me not

01:14:38Wow.
01:14:39You have an incredible voice.
01:14:41I feel like we've been waiting for you all day.
01:14:44Tell me about it.
01:14:46When you have a foundation and an instrument like you have, it's just a matter of what song would you
01:14:50like to sing.
01:14:52On this show, it's going to be challenging because you're going to cover everything from Disney songs all the way
01:14:57across to every event that ever happened in life in the music world.
01:15:00You can handle it with that voice any day of the week.
01:15:03I love what you did.
01:15:04Thank you so much.
01:15:05Well, great big voice.
01:15:07You just sang within your means.
01:15:09When I saw you going for the big note, I was like, uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, she got
01:15:14it.
01:15:15All right.
01:15:15She saved it for the end.
01:15:17We love our gospel singers, but just get ready to branch out and get ready to do a lot of
01:15:21stuff.
01:15:22You made everything just seem very effortless.
01:15:25Your small notes were beautiful and clear and crisp.
01:15:28You kept things small, and then it grew, and by the end of it, you were just soaring.
01:15:33You are a really talented vocalist.
01:15:36It is a massive yes for me.
01:15:40Yes.
01:15:41It's a yes for me.
01:15:43You got three yeses.
01:15:45Ah!
01:15:46Okay.
01:15:49Thank you so much.
01:15:51Your girl did it.

01:16:17Thank you, mama.
01:16:18I got my baby.

01:16:23You got your baby.
01:16:25You got your baby.
01:16:31You got your baby.
01:16:32You got your baby.
01:16:33Do you remember this kid?
01:16:35Yes.
01:16:35I've thought about him a lot.
01:16:37Really, huh?
01:16:38Ah!
01:16:39Hey, guys.
01:16:40Hi.
01:16:41Hi.
01:16:41How are y'all?
01:16:42Doing great.
01:16:43How are you guys?
01:16:44We're so happy to see you.
01:16:46We're happy to be here.
01:16:48One, two, one, two, three, four.
01:16:54My name is Julian Kalel Almanzan.
01:16:56I'm from El Paso, Texas, and I'm 19 years old.
01:17:01Last year, I'd audition.
01:17:03I had no idea what to expect.
01:17:05Obviously, I was terrified.
01:17:07When I talk about it with my sister, we both say that we kind of just blacked out and gave
01:17:13a performance of our lives, I guess.
01:17:17There's a hole in my chest, knock me down, lay me to rest, drown my thoughts with kerosene.
01:17:30I performed an original song called Surrender, which talks about the struggles of anxiety
01:17:35and depression.
01:17:44I felt like I was at your show just now.
01:17:47Are you serious?
01:17:48Yeah, I did.
01:17:49Wow.
01:17:49It played like a record.
01:17:51He's a star.
01:17:52He's a star.
01:17:53He's a star.
01:17:53Just a straight up, straight up star.
01:17:57He's a star.
01:17:57I'll be gone without a sound when my heart fails me and I'm not around.
01:18:01Yes.
01:18:02Yes.
01:18:03Hallelujah, yes.
01:18:05Hallelujah, yes.
01:18:05Come on, man.
01:18:06Let's go.
01:18:06Come here.
01:18:07The things that the judges told me, I felt like my life was changing in that moment.
01:18:12He may win this thing.
01:18:14He literally might win it.
01:18:17It was one of the greatest moments of my life.
01:18:19Oh, I surrender.
01:18:21I'm going to Hollywood.
01:18:26Unfortunately, though, I was not able to continue forward.
01:18:31There were shared concerns about my abilities to balance a journey like American Idol and my
01:18:38mental health.
01:18:42I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my freshman year of high school.
01:18:47But I had been struggling with those feelings for a big part of my life.
01:18:51I mean, through even elementary and middle school.
01:18:54He came up to us and said, I am not okay.
01:18:57There's something happening with me.
01:18:59I mean, it's a knife to your chest because you're thinking, you know, what's going on?
01:19:05What's happening?
01:19:06And he said, I'm sad all the time.
01:19:11For me, anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown.
01:19:20I was pushing the value of my life.
01:19:24You have to look in the mirror and recognize that mental health professionals need to get involved.
01:19:31And that there's no shame in that.
01:19:39Music is my lifeline.
01:19:42It's what keeps me grounded.
01:19:45I had so much to smile about with my audition.
01:19:48And I just really regretted if I didn't give this another shot.
01:19:52I'm just hoping that whatever I'm doing just reflects the message of just not giving up.
01:19:58And most importantly, to not be defined by your struggles, but by your strengths.
01:20:04I choke up just thinking about it because I'm very lucky to be here.
01:20:08You know, life is a gift.
01:20:11For you to come back out here to try this, we're very happy and proud of you.
01:20:16We're so happy to be here.
01:20:17Thank you so much.
01:20:18So what are you going to do for us?
01:20:20The song today is called Long Guitar.
01:20:22I wrote it at a very dark time in my life where I was at a crossroads of deciding whether
01:20:27or not to give up or to keep going.
01:20:29Huh.
01:20:29And found that, you know, it's as simple as just stay one more day.
01:20:34That's the message.
01:20:36It's been rough.
01:20:37We've had some rough years.
01:20:39And this song in particular, it's suicide prevention, basically.
01:20:52What do you see when you look at me?
01:20:57The blessings that I'm letting go, Lord, you forgive so easily.
01:21:02It's getting harder to find peace.
01:21:07Get the chance to grow old, but I'm not the man that I should.
01:21:12Never felt travel, helling back every night.
01:21:17Too far gone for prayer.
01:21:19Just a boy afraid to die.
01:21:26Oh, heartache stare, words unspoken, the burden of my flaws.
01:21:32An empty chair, a family broken.
01:21:35Pain is all I cause.
01:21:37I should stay.
01:21:39I should stay.
01:21:42You walk in daydream, thoughts unholy.
01:21:45Damn near giving up.
01:21:47Hug your mama till there's just enough.
01:21:50To see that old sun rise.
01:21:56I should stay.
01:21:58I should stay.
01:22:01Oh, I'll stitch phones and learn to love these remarks along the way.
01:22:06Oh, I should stay.
01:22:08Oh, I should stay.
01:22:09Lord, let me stay.
01:22:12I got too much to give.
01:22:14I got I love you to say.
01:22:17Don't wanna make my old man cry.
01:22:19Leave my mama screaming why.
01:22:22Guess I'm in this bleeding heart.
01:22:25Lighthead in my way.
01:22:28To the boy alone in suffering.
01:22:31Thinking no one understands.
01:22:33If it's strength that you need.
01:22:36You don't have to be a man.
01:22:45Awesome.
01:22:47Ronald, what you think?
01:22:48Welcome back.
01:22:50Welcome back.
01:22:51I'm gonna leave you with some words that I keep repeating over and over again and I'm gonna pass it
01:22:57on to you.
01:22:58You were born enough.
01:22:59I haven't seen too many years.
01:23:01Come on, Julian.
01:23:02Come on.
01:23:03My God.
01:23:04But I have fear and I have love.
01:23:06Everything about you is just honest.
01:23:09And you organize your thoughts and your feelings into song in a way that comes across so real.
01:23:18That is something that's needed.
01:23:20I agree.
01:23:21Yeah, man.
01:23:22You got the magic.
01:23:30I think that you're incredible.
01:23:32I think you have all the skills and tools of a great singer.
01:23:35So glad you're back and we'll just have fun with this thing.
01:23:38How about that?
01:23:39Absolutely, yeah.
01:23:44What do you think, Lionel?
01:23:48Say yes for me.
01:23:49Yes for me.
01:23:51Yes for me.
01:23:53Let's go.
01:23:54Thank you guys.
01:23:55Here we go.
01:23:56Thank you so much.
01:23:56Welcome to Hollywood Week, friend.
01:23:58We're back.
01:23:58We're back.
01:23:59My parents.
01:24:00You did it, Nico.
01:24:02Carissa.
01:24:03Carissa.
01:24:05You did it, Nico.
01:24:06Congratulations.
01:24:11I just felt understood.
01:24:12I felt seen.
01:24:13For the artist that I try to be, I want to spread my message.
01:24:18You are loved and everyone is born enough.
01:24:21Everyone is in fact born enough.
01:24:29You're one of my absolute favorites.
01:24:32God bless you with an instrument.
01:24:34The first time I've had full body chills the whole time.
01:24:37Oh my God.
01:24:40You can't learn what you just did.
01:24:42You are a star.
01:24:46No way.
01:24:48Hello.
01:24:49Anybody want to sing for us?
01:24:51I'm sorry.
01:24:52You're going to Hollywood Week.
01:24:54I'm sorry.
01:24:54Yay!
01:24:56You were born to sing.
01:24:58Unbelievable.
01:25:00I'm sorry.
01:25:00For my youth.
01:25:01I'm sorry.
01:25:02No way.
01:25:03You can't see it.
