The UFL is trying some genuinely fascinating things with their rule changes this season and I am here for all of it. No punting inside the 50, a 60 yard field goal worth four points, a tiered point after touchdown system, this is exactly what a spring football league should be doing.

I break down each rule, why I think most of them are worth trying, and which one I think could change how we watch football entirely if it ever made its way to a bigger stage.

00:00There are some very interesting rules being tested out in the UFL.
00:08And so I thought, like, they're so interesting, we have to talk about them.
00:13So let's break down what the UFL is looking to do in their upcoming season.
00:24The UFL is definitely doing everything that a spring football league should be doing.
00:30And by that, I mean trying some stuff.
00:33And they're certainly trying some stuff with some of the rule changes that they are implementing for the upcoming season.
00:41The big one that would get a lot of people talking if it happened in the NFL, I mean all
00:45of these would.
00:46But no tush-push is the first one that's being brought up.
00:51I can understand people's frustration with it.
00:54I think we saw this year, and we've seen over the last couple of years, it's not just like, oh,
00:59this is a cheat code, they can do da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
01:01A lot of it is based on Jalen Hurts can squat a house.
01:05So, like, he has that leg drive that really helps them get it going.
01:08But even without Lane Johnson, it wasn't as effective as we've seen.
01:12And other teams have tried it, and it hasn't worked.
01:14So, I don't think it's this big cheat code thing.
01:17But if you want to get rid of it because there are players who are getting hurt in this, I
01:21can understand that as well.
01:22Now we get into the fun stuff.
01:24First, 60-yard field goals are worth four points.
01:29I, this is the type of stuff I live for with these sorts of leagues.
01:34Where, like, yeah, they don't have a tradition to fall back on.
01:37They can just try some stuff, and it's going to, I want to check it out to see how the
01:42coaches strategize with this, how teams kind of utilize it, and how they can take advantage of these situations.
01:49So, yeah, like, we are seeing, you could have implemented this ten years ago, and no one would have changed
01:54a thing.
01:54Because no one's making 60-yard field goals.
01:56But we're seeing quite a few of those now in the NFL.
01:59And some guys with some booming legs getting those out there.
02:03So, why not reward it?
02:06I really, really like this idea.
02:08Also, like, you'll see a lot of these coming in.
02:12And the one thing that I really like is that it keeps teams in games longer, I guess, right?
02:19Like, you get very, you're going to, you're still going to get some, but very, significantly less, I guess.
02:27We're done.
02:28We're completely out of it.
02:28Because we'll talk about it in a second.
02:30Like, you can have a nine-point touchdown and a four-point field goal, and all of a sudden, like,
02:37boom, 13 points up on the board.
02:39Where, at some points, it would be 10 or 11, right?
02:43So, I'm very interested by this.
02:46And I like that it keeps some teams engaged a little bit longer in games.
02:50No punting from inside the 50-yard line.
02:52This one's really interesting to me.
02:54Once you cross into the other team's side of half, at the, like, the 49-yard line,
03:01even if you get sacked twice and two holding calls, no punts.
03:06No punting allowed.
03:08Too many times, and you guys know where I stand on this.
03:11Too many times, we have seen teams just like, oh yeah, whatever, don't worry about it, we'll just punt.
03:16Field, gotta win the field position battle.
03:18And it's just, it's very, very lame.
03:21I don't think you should be punting when you have the ball that close anyway.
03:24So, I love that this is implemented.
03:26Force these teams to go for it.
03:28Put them in some of these uncomfortable situations, and make them make a play.
03:31Go find that play that gets you 5-6 yards.
03:34Force yourself to be creative.
03:36And put yourself out there a little bit.
03:38Absolutely, 100% love this one.
03:40This last one, I'm very interested in.
03:44Point after.
03:451 point, 33-yard kick.
03:472 point is a try from the 2-yard line.
03:51And a 3 point conversion is 1 try from the 8th.
03:55From the 8th.
03:56So, it's 4th and goal from the 8th, right?
03:58I love this idea.
04:02I, again, I just, I like the option of being able to stay in games longer.
04:08And take these shots, and if you have an offense that can do this.
04:12Or if you're in a situation where you're just kind of desperate.
04:15Why not?
04:16Why not reward that?
04:17And again, just force teams into trying some stuff.
04:19Keep them in games longer.
04:21For a league that doesn't get a lot of attention, the best way to do it is have exciting games.
04:25And the way you have exciting games is keeping teams close longer.
04:31And if 9 points can be scored on a touchdown, all of a sudden, that was a 2-possession game
04:36before.
04:36Now they can tie it up with 1 try, and it's a lot of drama.
04:39So, I love the UFL trying this.
04:41And, look, like, I think the NFL could be a little bit more creative with a lot of their stuff.
04:46I think the CFL could be a lot more creative with some of the stuff that they are doing.
04:50And the UFL, you're not tied to any tradition or anything like that.
04:53So, yeah, try some things.
04:54Go for it.
04:56Which one's your favorite?
04:57I think mine's the no punting from inside the 50.
04:59But aside from the tush push, all of them at least have my interest a little bit.
05:03But what did you guys think?
