00:00:11It's a cold night in Evansville, Indiana. A man says he's headed out to run an errand,
00:00:21but the inside of his vehicle tells a much different story. He's got a gun,
00:00:28a police scanner, and photos of his intended target.
00:00:41It had been a normal day. I had cleaned the house and done a little bit of shopping at Target,
00:00:48and then at the neighborhood Walmart, and then I was at home cooking. I was making
00:00:56mac and cheese and thick-cut pork chops. Becky Doerr and Robbie Doerr were married. She stayed
00:01:05at home while he worked multiple jobs to provide for the family. Robbie had just arrived home after
00:01:10working a 12-hour shift at the fire department. I saw him pull up into the driveway. I didn't see
00:01:17his actual truck, just saw the headlights. Within a minute or so after that, I heard four or five pops.
00:01:28There were several 911 calls that came in. A lot were from neighbors reporting gunshots.
00:01:34I don't know what happened, but I heard a loud bangs, and then I looked out the door, and the
00:01:39people across the street said,
00:01:40call 911. I heard five shots going off consecutively. Did you see a car-leaved area?
00:01:46No, we didn't. We just heard the popping. Then Elizabeth Fox Doerr would be a 911 caller.
00:02:16Hey, for that shot fired run, they said it's a gunshot wound to the head.
00:02:23It's a shooting, so it would be a heavy police presence there.
00:02:29Is this your husband? Yes.
00:02:31I'm up at the intersection of Colorado and Oakley.
00:02:35Get the med kit! He's still got a pulse.
00:02:38Oh, gosh. He's starting compressions now. Stay with me. Stay with me. Heart's still pumping.
00:02:43As far as who did that to Robbie, all I could think was, what am I going to do without
00:02:48him?
00:02:50One person was shot and killed here tonight, and the police still looking for a suspect.
00:02:55I got a call. There had been a shooting, and so my photographer and I immediately headed there.
00:02:59There was a lot of police officers. Crime scene tape was already up. It was a very hectic scene.
00:03:04I started seeing a lot of firefighters arrive. You don't usually see that at a shooting.
00:03:09What the f***? I just realized who it is.
00:03:13Robbie! Robbie!
00:03:16Connect electrodes.
00:03:17Robbie! Robbie!
00:03:20He's done, dude.
00:03:21F***ing damn it!
00:03:22Oh, God, no.
00:03:24Oh, damn it!
00:03:26Once we found out that it was Robbie Doerr, we immediately knew this was a beloved firefighter in this community,
00:03:33that he was a leader within the department.
00:03:35He trained a lot of the rookies.
00:03:38Hey, ma'am, let's go back this way. Come on.
00:03:40Let's go back.
00:03:41I know, ma'am.
00:03:42I don't want to be rude or disrespectful, but we've got to get the fire out of here because that's
00:03:45one of theirs.
00:03:46I was kind of in a haze, like a daze.
00:03:50I was doing the motions of what I needed to do.
00:03:57I relied a lot on my oldest son.
00:04:00When I got there, I got stopped by the police, or maybe it was a fireman, I'm not sure, but
00:04:05I said I couldn't go down the street.
00:04:06I was like, what are you talking about? My parents live down here. I have to get to the house.
00:04:10And I said, my dad's just been shot.
00:04:12It's my dad.
00:04:12I understand. You're not going through this crime scene.
00:04:15Okay, well then get my mother down here.
00:04:17Her name is Elizabeth Doerr.
00:04:20She said that he died.
00:04:22Dad is dead.
00:04:23The whole house was swarming with police officers and other people that had been notified.
00:04:28It was traumatic.
00:04:31My mom had three children.
00:04:33Me, I'm the youngest.
00:04:34Then Dustin, he's the middle child.
00:04:36And Nathan, he's the oldest.
00:04:37Nathan was spam texting me, spam calling me.
00:04:40And he was like, you need to get home.
00:04:42And now Rob's been shot.
00:04:44I was like, is he okay?
00:04:45He was like, I don't know, Taylor, get home.
00:04:48Where's my mom?
00:04:50Follow me.
00:04:51Okay, let's go.
00:04:52And we walked up to the house.
00:04:54Still everything's being investigated.
00:04:56Is he alive?
00:04:58No.
00:04:59Oh my God.
00:05:00The first thing I did was I called out my mom's name and I ran over to her and we
00:05:05just started
00:05:06crying together.
00:05:14We got to look at all angles of everything.
00:05:18Where's his daughter?
00:05:19She's right there.
00:05:22The next thing I know, at 730 at night, I'm getting a call from Nathan.
00:05:25And he goes, Lindsay, his dad's gone.
00:05:28And I immediately dashed for the house.
00:05:31Is that the daughter?
00:05:36Lindsay turned into a puddle.
00:05:38I mean, how can you not?
00:05:41She was inconsolable.
00:05:43He was my best friend.
00:05:45All I could think about was I needed to be next to my dad.
00:05:48Like, my dad was alone on that concrete.
00:05:50He didn't have me.
00:05:51I needed to be with him.
00:05:53Who shot him?
00:05:55I have no idea.
00:05:56No, no, no.
00:05:57I want my dad.
00:05:59I can't let you go out there, okay?
00:06:00Why?
00:06:01You can't.
00:06:02They wouldn't even let me out there with him.
00:06:05It's definitely chaos, but it's organized chaos.
00:06:08Because everybody has a job.
00:06:10Once Robbie was pronounced deceased, the patrolmen had to protect a crime scene.
00:06:14So they had to get everybody out of the scene.
00:06:16I've already told fire very suddenly that they have to stay outside the table.
00:06:21When you're dealing with somebody that's a victim of a crime, at the worst, a homicide,
00:06:25like in this situation, you say, okay, this is what it is.
00:06:28You know, we can't change that.
00:06:30We have to put that out of our minds and just treat it like any other investigation
00:06:34and start doing what we do.
00:06:37We found no shell casings.
00:06:39I don't want to say I'm very, very little.
00:06:44The image that stays with me about that night, several fire trucks are lined up and start
00:06:50a procession into town.
00:06:52Later find out that they were escorting Robbie's body to the coroner's office.
00:06:59When little boys dream of or talk about their hero, sometimes they say Spider-Man.
00:07:07Mine was a true hero.
00:07:09He was a fireman.
00:07:10He was my dad.
00:07:12He said he doesn't have any enemies.
00:07:14He doesn't have enemies.
00:07:15He's a fighter fighter.
00:07:17Did Robbie have any enemies?
00:07:18He had at least one.
00:07:31Are you going to take that down at the stop sign?
00:07:33Well, I feel like we need to set a car up on this side.
00:07:36Okay.
00:07:36I've got like six rolls in my car if you need them.
00:07:39Oh, God, no.
00:07:42Oh, God, no.
00:07:45Oh, God, no.
00:07:48No.
00:07:49Oh, God, please, no.
00:07:52No.
00:07:53We're going to walk around the back.
00:07:55They've got some crime scene tape up that we can't go through right now.
00:07:58Once Robbie was pronounced deceased, the detectives that are arriving knew that they had to start
00:08:03talking to people.
00:08:04So the canvas began immediately knocking on neighbors' doors.
00:08:10Hi.
00:08:12Did you guys happen to see what happened out here earlier?
00:08:14Sure did.
00:08:15We're just sitting here watching the TV and it's hurting noise.
00:08:20Will you guys do me a favor and stay inside until we clear out?
00:08:24Everybody was working for one goal, to figure out what happened to Robbie.
00:08:29Did anybody hear or see anything?
00:08:31All of us were here.
00:08:33We heard the shots, but we didn't see the vehicle.
00:08:36We knew something funny had happened.
00:08:37I was in that, see that camper over there?
00:08:40I was in the garage and I heard five shots go off.
00:08:43And I, it's good out of me.
00:08:46I thought it was right outside my door.
00:08:48So you were in the garage and heard five shots?
00:08:50Yep.
00:08:52Did you hear anything prior to that?
00:08:54No, I sure didn't.
00:08:55See anything suspicious afterward?
00:08:58No, I mean, it scared me so much.
00:09:00I turned all my lights off.
00:09:01I didn't know if somebody was going around shooting or something.
00:09:05The initial assessment, like moments after the shooting, we were, we didn't have a clue
00:09:10what happened.
00:09:14The detectives are still working on it, okay?
00:09:16I say, I don't have a whole lot of information I can give you right now.
00:09:19Well, someone must have drove down the street, perhaps maybe had an issue on the road with
00:09:25Robbie on his way home from work and shot at him.
00:09:30I call it an execution.
00:09:31We checked to see maybe if it was a carjacking and then we could see with the video that the
00:09:36detectives located that, you know, we ruled out a carjacking.
00:09:43How could this have happened?
00:09:44Wrong person, wrong time, wrong place, ran the whole gambit of everything.
00:09:49And for him to be taken out of this world in such a way that it's mind-boggling.
00:09:59Robbie Dorff was invincible in Engine 1.
00:10:02He was in it.
00:10:03He loved the fire department, the just getting out there and helping people.
00:10:07For nearly three decades, this beloved firefighter worked for everyone but himself.
00:10:12Today is the first day in all those years they've worked without him.
00:10:16I'm sure you've seen the shot we have of Robbie that's really old of him when he had
00:10:19rescued a child from a burning building.
00:10:23I got this video that's maybe being clucked on a ladder right now.
00:10:25He's a hero.
00:10:3028 years he was on the force.
00:10:33Like, that's a lifetime.
00:10:35I mean, his dad was a fireman.
00:10:38So it's like a family tradition.
00:10:43Firefighters typically have second jobs.
00:10:45He was a manager at Taco John's.
00:10:47He was doing that to just make extra money.
00:10:50I quit my job to go be a general manager at Taco John's.
00:10:55And that's how I met Rob.
00:10:57I think the first thing he ever said to me was,
00:11:00Hey, pretty lady.
00:11:02I miss that.
00:11:04He had always loved my mom.
00:11:07I do remember Robbie coming to me saying,
00:11:11Would it be okay if I went on a date with your mom?
00:11:13I know I've just kind of been a friend,
00:11:15but I want to be more than a friend.
00:11:17And I was like, that's completely okay with me.
00:11:19And he was elated.
00:11:21You could see him skipping through my store.
00:11:26Oh, I knew he loved Becky.
00:11:28There was no doubt in my mind.
00:11:30He was 110% in.
00:11:34Our wedding was in Panama City Beach, Florida.
00:11:38Actually, it had rained every day when we first got there.
00:11:43And as soon as I started to walk down the sand, it stopped raining.
00:11:47So it was very, very pretty.
00:11:54I was over the moon to have Robert as my dad.
00:11:58He stepped in to be a parent.
00:12:00My hero became my dad.
00:12:01Finally, I have this hero that I can call my dad.
00:12:05They were married for about six months.
00:12:07So very quick relationship, marriage, death.
00:12:12Before Rob and I were married, I had been married five times.
00:12:18I think that she wanted to have that picture-perfect life, the husband, the children, but just couldn't find it.
00:12:29Rob was going to be the person that gave my mom a consistent life because my mom was born into
00:12:34adversity.
00:12:35Then she was put into a foster home that didn't have adequate resources to take care of her.
00:12:39She never really had a break until she was ultimately adopted.
00:12:43I was four.
00:12:44My sister Mandy was two.
00:12:47My bond with Mandy, we were the two troublemakers of the house.
00:12:53What was it like growing up with Becky?
00:12:55She was my big sister.
00:12:56She was a good sister.
00:12:59We played, we traded stickers, we jumped on the trampoline.
00:13:03Wham!
00:13:05Not in trouble.
00:13:07She was the sister that comforted me.
00:13:11For 47 years, she was everything good and pure and wonderful.
00:13:18My mom was trying to be like Jude Cleaver.
00:13:22Perfect stay-at-home wife.
00:13:23But my mom and Robby, their relationship, it had problems.
00:13:30He started to question things.
00:13:31It seemed normal to you.
00:13:32It seemed good.
00:13:33It was fine until it wasn't.
00:13:47Oh yeah, Robby and I were best friends for 34 years.
00:13:52And thick, thin didn't make any difference.
00:13:54We were always there for each other.
00:13:56We've made a lot of runs together, several fires.
00:14:02Robby gave 110% on every run he ever made.
00:14:05Door was shot to death outside his Oakley Street home last week.
00:14:10The investigation into his murder continues.
00:14:15Shortly after the murder, police began searching Robby's home.
00:14:19In the home, they find something of interest there.
00:14:25It was a note from Robby written to Elizabeth.
00:14:28And it talked about there being some problems in the marriage.
00:14:32Perhaps someone else that Elizabeth had been talking to, alleged infidelity.
00:14:42My dad seemed very happy at first.
00:14:45But then things, he started to question things.
00:14:48He started to feel insecure.
00:14:50He started to think she was cheating on him.
00:14:52He was like, she always deletes her text messages.
00:14:55Like, she never lets me see her phone.
00:14:57Robby had trust issues when it came to that because it had happened to him previously.
00:15:04I tried to make him feel reassured.
00:15:09I would tell him every time somebody would call me.
00:15:12There were times that my oldest son would call me and he couldn't believe,
00:15:17oh, you're on the phone with him again.
00:15:20He just didn't understand.
00:15:25My mother did confide to me about their relationship.
00:15:30Sometimes a little too much.
00:15:31With too much information, but on that same aspect, so did dad.
00:15:35Dad asked me to be his confidant.
00:15:39The financial aspect of things created some strain,
00:15:43created some problems between the two of them.
00:15:45As soon as they got home from Florida, she had a brand new car.
00:15:48And then they got a brand new sectional.
00:15:51They had to buy a washer.
00:15:52He had a credit card out at Home Depot.
00:15:55He had a credit card out on the ring.
00:15:58He was borrowed as far as he could borrow.
00:16:01Money got real tight.
00:16:02She wasn't working.
00:16:03He was.
00:16:05Our biggest disagreement was he wanted me to quit working
00:16:08because when he's off, that was our time to be together.
00:16:11And that's what he wanted.
00:16:13And I wanted to work.
00:16:15But as far as major trouble brewing, no.
00:16:20We were still learning each other.
00:16:24You think Robbie was trying to make Becky's life better?
00:16:27I do.
00:16:28I do.
00:16:33Rob wanted my relationship with my sister Mandy to be stronger.
00:16:39So that was what we were trying to do by getting together with them.
00:16:44When we started going out with them, I was kind of excited about it.
00:16:47I would be off with Mandy, and he would be off with Larry.
00:16:53How did you meet your fiancee, Larry Richmond?
00:16:57I met him at work.
00:16:58I was working at the Dollar General.
00:17:00He made sure his hand touched mine.
00:17:02And I thought, golly, this one's bold.
00:17:04So we just, we started talking.
00:17:06And a couple months later, he called one night and said,
00:17:10do you want me to bring my stuff to your house?
00:17:13We were together from that time on.
00:17:16He pulled up in his car with all of his clothes and said he was moving in.
00:17:23And she was thrilled beans about it.
00:17:26He was very, very tall.
00:17:27I think he was six foot something.
00:17:29He has a nice smile.
00:17:30I will say that he was the most handsome out of the men that I've seen her date.
00:17:36Larry was always really gentle with my mom.
00:17:38Like, he was always, like, getting her things.
00:17:40Like, he was always doing things for her.
00:17:43I don't think I've ever seen her happier.
00:17:45I just, just always felt loved.
00:17:50I came home one day, and he had gone to the Goodwill
00:17:52and just laid out a bunch of dresses on the bed.
00:17:56I was like, oh, you know, he didn't even know what size I wore.
00:17:59But he was able to pick up everything fit.
00:18:02I felt fancy.
00:18:05He was really close to his family.
00:18:07Larry Richmond, Sr. is very proud of his son, Larry Richmond, Jr.
00:18:10They were two peas in a pod.
00:18:13So you bring him to Thanksgiving, introduce him to your family,
00:18:17but you don't tell him about his past.
00:18:21No.
00:18:21Why not?
00:18:23It felt like a mean thing to do to him.
00:18:26That's not how I wanted everybody to see him.
00:18:29That's not who he was to me.
00:18:30That's not who he was trying to be.
00:18:33Larry had his history.
00:18:34He told me when he was 17 years old,
00:18:36he accidentally killed a man and did 20 years for it.
00:18:40Well, he actually pled guilty to knowingly killing a person.
00:18:45How did he explain it?
00:18:46He said he was trying to get the guy to show him his ID
00:18:54because he believed that the guy had done something inappropriate
00:18:58to one of his friend's brothers.
00:19:00And he said that in the process of trying to see the guy's ID,
00:19:04the gun went off.
00:19:07At first, I was like, oh, that's not great.
00:19:09But then slowly, like, I mean, my mom convinced us.
00:19:13She was like, he's a changed man.
00:19:14It was an accident.
00:19:15You know, he's a great guy, which he was from our perspective.
00:19:18He was a great guy.
00:19:20So, yeah, after a while, I just kind of, like,
00:19:23pushed it to the side, I guess.
00:19:30Does Mandy fall in love easy?
00:19:32I would probably say, yeah, she falls in love very easily.
00:19:35I do, too.
00:19:36My mom's life had just turned around that it was going to be,
00:19:39you know, wonderful, things are great.
00:19:41And then all of a sudden, your world comes crashing down.
00:19:45The Evansville Police Department have not identified any suspects.
00:19:48As far as the list of people that want to hurt Robbie Dorr,
00:19:50we couldn't find a single one.
00:19:54It's not until we're at the autopsy
00:19:56when we discover something odd.
00:19:59That is a whole heck of a lot of coincidences.
00:20:19This has been one of the biggest stories I've covered in my career.
00:20:25Anytime a first responder is hurt, let alone murdered,
00:20:29I mean, that is a big deal, especially here in the Evansville area.
00:20:32We regard our first responders very highly around here.
00:20:38And this, from the very beginning,
00:20:40the community was invested in this story.
00:20:46So that night, on Oakley, we did not find any shell casings.
00:20:49We found, in the road, a fired projectile that had damage to it.
00:20:55That's not a casing. That's an actual round.
00:20:57That's a round, yeah.
00:20:58It's not until the next day when we discover something odd.
00:21:03It really started with the autopsy.
00:21:06Had a great forensic pathologist that did the autopsy.
00:21:09When they pulled ammunition from Robbie's body, there was a mixture.
00:21:15There were jacketed projectiles, there was ball projectiles,
00:21:20and there was plastic wadding.
00:21:22One of our firearms experts said,
00:21:25well, you're probably looking at a horse judge
00:21:27that fires different types of ammunition in one gun.
00:21:33You could shoot a projectile, or you could shoot a shotgun shell,
00:21:38and it all came from the same firearm.
00:21:40A Taurus judge was referred to us as a hand cannon.
00:21:45Robbie was shot with a very unique gun.
00:21:47That kind of got us off and running, really.
00:21:52Okay, you basically start a war room.
00:21:54You have a big whiteboard,
00:21:56and you put your victim in the middle of that.
00:21:58And then you put a picture of his wife
00:22:00and draw an arrow next to her.
00:22:02Victim's wife.
00:22:03Child.
00:22:04Best friend.
00:22:05And then you just start building that out.
00:22:08And then you want to look at that board the most and say,
00:22:11okay, who started on the outside,
00:22:13but is maybe moving more towards your victim.
00:22:16We discovered that a Taurus judge was stolen,
00:22:20actively stolen,
00:22:21from a pawn shop nearby called River City Pawn Shop.
00:22:27This company, River City Pawn,
00:22:28played a pretty big role in this investigation
00:22:30because Larry Richmond, Jr. worked in there
00:22:33and had access to many firearms.
00:22:36He's a young man with no criminal record.
00:22:38So we go back, printed out Larry Richmond, Jr.,
00:22:40put him on our whiteboard.
00:22:42We came across a picture that had a Taurus judge in his lap,
00:22:46and he just sent it to other friends,
00:22:49just showing off the gun that he stole in September of 2018.
00:22:56The connection with Larry Richmond, Sr.
00:23:00was that he had a direct connection with Jr.
00:23:04When we put Larry, Sr. in the system,
00:23:06Detective McCormick ran a criminal history on him
00:23:08and found out, oh my gosh, he's on probation for murder.
00:23:12I know what's supposed to make me scared of him.
00:23:14I know it's supposed to make me hate him.
00:23:16I know what it's supposed to do.
00:23:19But it doesn't.
00:23:21He was never scary to me.
00:23:24He was my protector.
00:23:26Mandy was in the middle.
00:23:28She was in a romantic relationship,
00:23:30living together with Larry Richmond, Sr.
00:23:34And she was the sister of Elizabeth Foxdor.
00:23:38And they all lived relatively close to one another.
00:23:47Well, Mandy is my sister.
00:23:49She is three years younger than me.
00:23:52Her personality is she's very outgoing.
00:23:56She is, I don't mean it disrespectful,
00:23:59but she's, she's ditzy.
00:24:01Very ditzy.
00:24:03Very, you know, I don't think a whole lot bothers her.
00:24:07She's a good person.
00:24:12The funeral was, was massive.
00:24:20There were fire stations from all around
00:24:23who came to pay their respect.
00:24:25There was such a community interest
00:24:27that we even live streamed the funeral on our website
00:24:29for people to watch
00:24:31because not everybody even could get in.
00:24:35The funeral was hard.
00:24:39I will never forget the bells.
00:24:43I will never forget
00:24:45all of the speeches that were said.
00:24:48This legacy of integrity
00:24:49is what the foundation of the fire department's put upon.
00:24:52I can't listen to backpipes anymore.
00:24:54I can't.
00:24:55I just can't listen to them.
00:24:57And then the moment that they handed me his helmet,
00:25:01I lost it.
00:25:03I cried a lot through it.
00:25:05All I could think was,
00:25:07I shouldn't be doing this.
00:25:11I shouldn't have to go through this right now.
00:25:15I've seen a few times when, you know,
00:25:17a firefighter or a police officer passes,
00:25:20they get the fire truck out
00:25:21and they get the American flag.
00:25:23And so we went under that.
00:25:26I mean, it was a beautiful ceremony.
00:25:28It really was.
00:25:29Resty's a brother.
00:25:30We'll take it from here.
00:25:37We knew as soon as the funeral was over,
00:25:40it was time to get this investigation going.
00:25:44And the decision was made collectively
00:25:47to bring in several folks.
00:25:54Things took a massive turn.
00:25:56And, um, there's cops everywhere.
00:26:00Dogs barking and...
00:26:04It was awful.
00:26:10You had Mandy was in a room,
00:26:12Larry Richmond Jr.,
00:26:14Larry Richmond Sr.,
00:26:15and then we had, uh,
00:26:16Elizabeth Fox Door.
00:26:19I thought he was cheating on me.
00:26:21Okay.
00:26:22I can tell you was.
00:26:24When we looked at the situation that we had there,
00:26:26I did make the comment at one time,
00:26:29this show is almost geared for Jerry Springer.
00:26:57We decided to pull over Larry and Mandy
00:27:00as soon as the funeral was over.
00:27:02What's going on here, man?
00:27:03I'll tell you a little bit.
00:27:05You got weapons or anything?
00:27:06I don't.
00:27:06Any knives or anything?
00:27:07I don't.
00:27:07Okay.
00:27:09What's your name, sir?
00:27:10Larry.
00:27:10What's that?
00:27:11Larry.
00:27:11Larry what?
00:27:12Okay.
00:27:13I think I just went completely numb.
00:27:16Like, what is happening?
00:27:22All right.
00:27:22Very custody.
00:27:25I personally was assigned
00:27:26to Larry Richmond Sr.
00:27:29Well, Larry,
00:27:30why don't we got everybody?
00:27:31It's not just you down here.
00:27:34Obviously,
00:27:34we're looking into the Robert Doar situation.
00:27:37He was gunned down in his driveway.
00:27:40What's that got to do with me?
00:27:41Well,
00:27:42it has to do with everybody in the family.
00:27:45We just want to,
00:27:46we're trying to get everybody in here
00:27:47and trying to see if there's just anything
00:27:50that can help us with this investigation.
00:27:52So,
00:27:53do you wish to talk to me
00:27:54about a lawyer present?
00:27:55I have no problem answering any of your questions.
00:27:57I will cooperate fully.
00:27:59Okay.
00:27:59Due to my past,
00:28:00I have been incarcerated.
00:28:02Sure.
00:28:02I am on probation.
00:28:03I don't need any problems.
00:28:05Sure.
00:28:05No,
00:28:05I understand.
00:28:06If I'm not under arrest,
00:28:07please get a hold of him.
00:28:08I will come back down here
00:28:09and fully cooperate.
00:28:11No problems at all.
00:28:13All we're trying to do is find out
00:28:16if you guys know anything
00:28:17that could help us find this killer.
00:28:18I don't know nothing.
00:28:20We go out with him.
00:28:22We go out and drink.
00:28:24Outside of that there,
00:28:25I don't know nothing.
00:28:27They brought us down there
00:28:30and immediately I realized
00:28:32it's like I am awful close
00:28:34to whatever the crap is happening.
00:28:44What?
00:28:45What?
00:28:46We're going to explain it.
00:28:46We'll get to all that.
00:28:47No, it'll be okay.
00:28:49Whatever you're,
00:28:50whatever's going on in your mind,
00:28:51I can guarantee you
00:28:52it's not a,
00:28:53it's nothing.
00:28:54It's not a big deal at all.
00:28:56Okay?
00:28:56Yep.
00:28:59Where were you at
00:29:00when Robbie was murdered?
00:29:03Do you remember?
00:29:11when I don't know exactly
00:29:14when it was,
00:29:15can you tell me when it was?
00:29:16It was last Tuesday,
00:29:21around 7 o'clock.
00:29:24You're home?
00:29:25We go along.
00:29:26Kids there.
00:29:27Was Larry there?
00:29:29Yeah,
00:29:30we were all there.
00:29:32Investigators asked her
00:29:33where Larry was at
00:29:34the night of the murder.
00:29:36She reported that he
00:29:38was with her
00:29:38the entire night.
00:29:40Hey, Mandy.
00:29:41Do you know something
00:29:42that we don't?
00:29:46I feel them
00:29:46in the twilight room.
00:29:49This is what you watch on TV.
00:29:53This is,
00:29:54this,
00:29:54this,
00:29:54you watch this happen
00:29:55to people on TV,
00:29:56not to your family.
00:29:58I think Mandy really
00:30:00believes in this man
00:30:01and believes that
00:30:02he can better himself.
00:30:08It's sometimes our benefit
00:30:09to grab all individuals
00:30:12that are involved in a case
00:30:13at the same time.
00:30:15Agent Bill Gray
00:30:16picked up Claire Richmond Jr.
00:30:18up from the pawn shop
00:30:19when he got off work
00:30:20that night
00:30:20and brought him downtown.
00:30:22I had some questions
00:30:23for Larry Jr.
00:30:24as far as stealing the firearm
00:30:25and giving it to his dad.
00:30:27We have two more people
00:30:28down here now
00:30:29involved in this case.
00:30:32And one is your dad.
00:30:34Okay.
00:30:35And things aren't
00:30:36looking so good here.
00:30:37Okay.
00:30:38What do you know
00:30:39about this guy?
00:30:41It came up missing
00:30:44the day of
00:30:45or a couple of days
00:30:46before I started
00:30:47at the pawn shop.
00:30:49That's not true.
00:30:53I've talked to
00:30:54the regional manager,
00:30:54I've talked to
00:30:55the ATF guys.
00:30:55That's not exactly
00:30:56the way it's calling them.
00:30:57The gun came up missing
00:30:58while you were an employee.
00:30:59Yeah.
00:31:00While, yeah.
00:31:02I was sitting
00:31:03in the pawn shop
00:31:06and then somebody
00:31:07came up
00:31:08and
00:31:10said there was
00:31:11a gun outside.
00:31:12And then
00:31:13we called it in.
00:31:15Larry Richmond Jr.,
00:31:17he lies
00:31:18that he didn't know
00:31:19about the gun.
00:31:20He didn't steal the gun.
00:31:21I have some bad news
00:31:22for you, son.
00:31:23I think you're heading
00:31:24down the same path
00:31:25their dad's head.
00:31:26I don't think things
00:31:27are going to work out
00:31:28too well here.
00:31:29So, just hang tight
00:31:30a couple minutes.
00:31:35To my knowledge,
00:31:36I don't believe
00:31:37that Elizabeth knew
00:31:38that the others
00:31:39were in custody.
00:31:40After the funeral
00:31:41was over,
00:31:42Detective Keene
00:31:42and Detective Hands
00:31:44came and asked me.
00:31:46They said that
00:31:46they had a phone of mine
00:31:48and they had the key
00:31:50to my house.
00:31:51They would like to
00:31:52ask a few more questions.
00:31:54Detective Keene
00:31:55ran the first whole
00:31:55part of the interview
00:31:56going back over
00:31:57what they talked
00:31:57about that night,
00:31:58confirming everything
00:31:59she said.
00:32:00Okay.
00:32:01So you get home
00:32:02in the four pork chops
00:32:03and get those ready.
00:32:04They actually,
00:32:05I just had the oven
00:32:06preheating
00:32:07and I was getting
00:32:09ready to,
00:32:11you know,
00:32:12get the mac and cheese.
00:32:14I was getting
00:32:15out of the cabinet
00:32:16and I saw
00:32:16the truck lights
00:32:17come into the driveway
00:32:18and then I heard
00:32:20these popping noises.
00:32:22Then I looked
00:32:23out the door,
00:32:24I saw Rob
00:32:24at the end
00:32:25of the driveway,
00:32:26shoved the dog
00:32:26back,
00:32:27closed the door
00:32:28and went running
00:32:28down the driveway.
00:32:30We felt that
00:32:31she was hiding something.
00:32:32And then when I,
00:32:33I showed her
00:32:34the raw data
00:32:35from her phone download.
00:32:36Do we know
00:32:37who this number
00:32:37is right here?
00:32:40I don't
00:32:42recognize it.
00:32:43They,
00:32:43they were showing
00:32:44me phone numbers
00:32:45but there was
00:32:47no name
00:32:47to a phone number
00:32:48and I kept
00:32:49telling them
00:32:49I don't know
00:32:50that phone number.
00:32:52Leading up
00:32:53to Elizabeth's
00:32:54interview,
00:32:54we had gathered
00:32:55cell phone records,
00:32:56actual cell phone
00:32:57device records
00:32:58and we knew
00:33:00there was a deleted
00:33:01phone call
00:33:01right before
00:33:02the 911 call.
00:33:04But you can't
00:33:05delete it off
00:33:05the company records
00:33:06and this is
00:33:07the company records.
00:33:08This is straight
00:33:08from Sprint.
00:33:09I understand that.
00:33:10Okay.
00:33:11I don't recall
00:33:12talking to someone
00:33:13like five minutes
00:33:14before Rob
00:33:15was killed.
00:33:16I knew that
00:33:16was a lie.
00:33:18So then you just
00:33:19kind of go,
00:33:20okay,
00:33:20why is she lying
00:33:21then?
00:33:21I've been honest
00:33:22with you from
00:33:22the get-go.
00:33:23That's all I ask
00:33:24of you is your
00:33:24honesty.
00:33:25I understand that.
00:33:26I don't recall
00:33:27talking to someone
00:33:28like five minutes
00:33:29before Rob
00:33:30was killed.
00:33:31I don't.
00:33:32You were able
00:33:33to tell us
00:33:33down to the sense
00:33:34how much you paid
00:33:35for your pork chops
00:33:36earlier that day
00:33:37at Walmart
00:33:37but you can't remember
00:33:38who you had a phone
00:33:39call with just prior
00:33:40to your husband
00:33:40getting executed
00:33:41in your driveway
00:33:42just didn't ring
00:33:43right to me at all.
00:33:44Let me finish.
00:33:45Cannot change
00:33:45what happened
00:33:46but you can change
00:33:47it from how it goes
00:33:48on here now
00:33:49by telling the truth.
00:33:52Do you understand
00:33:53what I'm saying?
00:33:54I do.
00:33:55Okay.
00:33:55So take a deep breath
00:33:56and tell us
00:33:57who you talked to
00:33:58five minutes
00:33:59before your husband
00:34:00was killed
00:34:01in your driveway
00:34:01getting out of his truck
00:34:03in the back of the head.
00:34:06We're asking questions
00:34:07because we know
00:34:08the answers to Becky.
00:34:19This is the Evansville
00:34:20Police Department
00:34:22Adult Interview Suite.
00:34:23We have four interview rooms
00:34:25available to us.
00:34:27Throughout our time
00:34:28interviewing these subjects
00:34:30we were determined
00:34:31that we were being lied to.
00:34:32There were inconsistencies
00:34:33in stories
00:34:34and it took a good long while
00:34:35to start getting things
00:34:36sorted out
00:34:37where we had a good idea
00:34:39of what was happening.
00:34:41When you're in the interview room
00:34:42and they're lying
00:34:42you try to never
00:34:43take police work personal.
00:34:45I honestly did not
00:34:46recognize the phone number.
00:34:48Okay.
00:34:48You just have to keep
00:34:49confronting them
00:34:50with the facts
00:34:51and you just slowly
00:34:52work through the case.
00:34:53Just let it out.
00:34:54Just tell us the truth.
00:34:56Did you orchestrate it?
00:34:57Then what happened?
00:34:58What's your...
00:34:58Okay.
00:34:58Then you didn't orchestrate it?
00:34:59I didn't know
00:34:59what was going to happen.
00:35:00Tell us the truth.
00:35:00And the questioning was
00:35:02had you ever deleted
00:35:03anything off of your phone?
00:35:05And when she says no
00:35:06on the information
00:35:08I had in my file holder
00:35:09at the time
00:35:09I knew that was a lie.
00:35:11Nothing in that conversation
00:35:12had anything to do
00:35:13with hurting anybody.
00:35:15Why delete it then?
00:35:16Because I typically delete...
00:35:18I deleted the phone call.
00:35:20I delete my phone calls
00:35:22every time
00:35:23I get off the phone
00:35:25with somebody
00:35:25unless I talk
00:35:27to you regularly.
00:35:28She deletes
00:35:29absolutely everything
00:35:30and I know for a fact
00:35:31if I were to send her
00:35:32you know
00:35:32I love you mom
00:35:33she would keep that
00:35:34and she would delete
00:35:35everything else.
00:35:36She will send a text message
00:35:37and then she will delete it.
00:35:38I don't know why.
00:35:40If you look at the timeline
00:35:42of the deleted phone call
00:35:43just minutes before
00:35:44Robbie's killed
00:35:45and the 911 calls made
00:35:47so that's a big deal.
00:35:49So who did you talk to
00:35:50five minutes
00:35:51before your husband
00:35:52was gunned down
00:35:53in the driveway?
00:35:54Becky, we know the answer.
00:35:56So you can let us
00:35:57do the talking for you
00:35:58or you can do
00:35:59the talking for yourself
00:36:00and please tell the truth.
00:36:02So who was it?
00:36:03My sister's fiance.
00:36:05Elizabeth had deleted
00:36:07all of Larry Richmond Sr.'s
00:36:09phone calls
00:36:10in her phone.
00:36:11You knew.
00:36:12Not only did you know
00:36:13you talked to him that night
00:36:14you knew you deleted it
00:36:16and then you knew
00:36:16I was going to ask you
00:36:17about it
00:36:18when we came back in here.
00:36:19It's human behavior
00:36:20to try to protect yourself
00:36:22for like
00:36:22oh my gosh
00:36:23I'm into this
00:36:23how am I going to get out of it
00:36:24maybe if I just stick
00:36:25with these lies.
00:36:26I didn't want you
00:36:27to think that I was
00:36:27having an affair with him
00:36:29because I have not
00:36:30had an affair.
00:36:31The way the interview
00:36:32went with Becky Fox-Door
00:36:33was it a perfect interview?
00:36:35No, because we didn't
00:36:36get her to truly confess.
00:36:37I think it was
00:36:38the next best thing.
00:36:39I didn't want to say
00:36:39that I had talked to him
00:36:40because that makes it
00:36:42makes it look like
00:36:43I did it.
00:36:44She was denying
00:36:45the phone call
00:36:46admitted she denied
00:36:47she knew she deleted
00:36:48the phone call
00:36:49she hid it from us.
00:36:50Stand up for me.
00:36:54New developments
00:36:55tonight in the murder
00:36:56of a firefighter
00:36:57in Indiana.
00:36:58Robbie Doors' wife
00:36:59tonight is in jail
00:37:00for deleting a phone call
00:37:02she allegedly received
00:37:03before calling 911.
00:37:06That moment was
00:37:10a moment of
00:37:12could she?
00:37:14Would she?
00:37:15Why would she?
00:37:16It was a whole
00:37:17gambit of emotion.
00:37:19Elizabeth was
00:37:21originally charged
00:37:22with the obstruction
00:37:22of justice.
00:37:24She soon
00:37:25was out on bond.
00:37:32Larry Jr.
00:37:33What's up, dude?
00:37:35Larry Jr.
00:37:36was walking
00:37:36a fine line
00:37:37between going
00:37:38to prison
00:37:39for a very long time
00:37:40and not.
00:37:42And it wasn't
00:37:43until much later
00:37:44in the same evening
00:37:45that he knocked
00:37:45on the door
00:37:46and said,
00:37:46hey, I need to
00:37:47talk to investigators
00:37:48again because
00:37:49I need to tell
00:37:50them something.
00:37:50He tells investigators,
00:37:53my dad has guns
00:37:54at Mandy's house.
00:37:55My dad said
00:37:56if anything was
00:37:57to go down,
00:37:58he would bury
00:37:59the gun.
00:37:59It is said
00:38:00that Larry Richmond,
00:38:01Sr. had buried
00:38:02a tote full of guns
00:38:04in the backyard
00:38:05of Mandy's house
00:38:06where he was living
00:38:07at the time.
00:38:08He's even caught
00:38:09on video doing this.
00:38:12The detectives
00:38:13came across
00:38:14a surveillance system
00:38:15from the house
00:38:15just directly
00:38:16to Mandy's,
00:38:18Larry's fiancee's house.
00:38:20It shows Larry
00:38:21coming out
00:38:22of the house
00:38:22in the evening
00:38:23with his box
00:38:25under his arm
00:38:25and grabbing
00:38:26some type of utensil
00:38:28and going behind
00:38:29the garage
00:38:30and then coming back
00:38:31empty-handed.
00:38:35One morning,
00:38:36I wake up,
00:38:37I'm sitting
00:38:38in the living room
00:38:38and all of a sudden
00:38:39there are police cars
00:38:42everywhere.
00:38:43That whole block,
00:38:44this whole block
00:38:45of Sheffield
00:38:46was full
00:38:47of police cars
00:38:48and I'm like,
00:38:49get up here,
00:38:50see what's going on.
00:38:53And they searched
00:38:54the whole grounds
00:38:55and when they got
00:38:56to that fire pit,
00:38:57they started digging
00:38:58and they almost dug
00:39:00every square inch
00:39:02back here.
00:39:03I mean,
00:39:03they dug everywhere.
00:39:04I'm over the fence
00:39:05and I said,
00:39:06what's going on?
00:39:07He says,
00:39:08well,
00:39:09we're hunting for stuff
00:39:10and then I saw
00:39:11some guns
00:39:12in the other policeman's
00:39:13hand.
00:39:14I said,
00:39:15oh,
00:39:15that's what you're
00:39:16looking for.
00:39:17And he goes,
00:39:18yeah,
00:39:19we found several
00:39:20where the fire pit was.
00:39:22That box was taken
00:39:24to headquarters
00:39:24and you could have
00:39:25heard a pin drop.
00:39:26They did it right.
00:39:27Our crime scene detective
00:39:28came in and then slowly
00:39:29started processing
00:39:30that box
00:39:31and we're all like,
00:39:32please take out
00:39:32a tourist judge
00:39:33or tourist judge ammunition.
00:39:36I remember being
00:39:37in the newsroom
00:39:38that day
00:39:38and hearing
00:39:39on the scanner
00:39:39that police
00:39:40were at the home
00:39:41and they had found
00:39:42some guns
00:39:43but not the murder weapon.
00:39:45The murder weapon
00:39:46and Robbie Doerr's murder
00:39:47has never been found.
00:39:51So at this point,
00:39:52police still do not
00:39:53have a murder weapon.
00:39:54They have not named
00:39:55a suspect.
00:39:56So we're wondering,
00:39:56what is their next step?
00:39:59I found something
00:40:00that raised
00:40:01the pinnacle
00:40:02of all flags.
00:40:03I mean,
00:40:03I can't even call it
00:40:04a red flag.
00:40:04It's like the sirens
00:40:05going off.
00:40:06There was a handwritten
00:40:07message that said
00:40:09we need to talk.
00:40:26He was my best friend.
00:40:28He was the person
00:40:29I called
00:40:29when I was having
00:40:30a bad day.
00:40:31He was the person
00:40:31I called
00:40:32if I had a flat tire
00:40:33on the side of the road,
00:40:34if I just needed to talk.
00:40:36It was him.
00:40:38When my dad passed away,
00:40:40we were not in a great place.
00:40:42Me not liking Becky
00:40:43put a very big strain
00:40:44on our relationship.
00:40:46I wish he would have saw it.
00:40:48I wish he would have
00:40:49listened to me
00:40:49when he said
00:40:50it was going too fast.
00:40:52It's
00:40:55a lot of I wish.
00:40:59When my mother was arrested,
00:41:00I was like,
00:41:00no, they have the wrong person.
00:41:02This can't be.
00:41:02This is the woman
00:41:03who's helped to raise me.
00:41:06No one ever thinks
00:41:07of their parent
00:41:07to be that person.
00:41:12The puzzle pieces
00:41:13kind of started
00:41:14to fall into place
00:41:15after the funeral.
00:41:16I was going through
00:41:17the condolence cards
00:41:18and I came across one
00:41:20that was from
00:41:21my Aunt Mandy.
00:41:22I didn't quite know
00:41:23what to think of it
00:41:24at first,
00:41:25but it was that
00:41:27guttural instinct
00:41:28that said,
00:41:29this is not right.
00:41:30Like I said,
00:41:31my name is Anthony.
00:41:34I'm detective.
00:41:34I didn't have
00:41:35anyone to get a hold of
00:41:36except for
00:41:37one detective.
00:41:39I was going through
00:41:40condolence cards.
00:41:42Okay.
00:41:42And I found a card
00:41:43from Larry Richmond
00:41:45and my Aunt Amanda
00:41:47and there was
00:41:48a little slip of paper,
00:41:49like notebook paper
00:41:50that said,
00:41:51we need to talk
00:41:51with his phone number
00:41:53and Larry.
00:41:55It looks like
00:41:55he had written it
00:41:56on the corner
00:41:56of like a notebook
00:41:57piece of paper
00:41:58and ripped it out.
00:41:59So this is kind
00:42:00of the last second?
00:42:00The last second thing.
00:42:02It wasn't written
00:42:02in the card.
00:42:02I think it was put in
00:42:03after like Mandy
00:42:05and him signed it
00:42:07because he's the one
00:42:08that presented it
00:42:09to my mother.
00:42:09He held,
00:42:10he gripped that thing
00:42:11all the way up
00:42:12until it passed
00:42:12into my mother's hand.
00:42:13I don't know why
00:42:14he was trying
00:42:15to reach out that way.
00:42:16It doesn't make sense
00:42:17to me.
00:42:18He was standing
00:42:19right there
00:42:20when he handed it
00:42:21to us,
00:42:22so he could have
00:42:24just said
00:42:25what he needed
00:42:25to say right then.
00:42:26Okay.
00:42:27I'll be back
00:42:27and just sit down.
00:42:28Okay.
00:42:30That day,
00:42:31they asked me
00:42:31if I do.
00:42:32that he had
00:42:33had criminal history
00:42:34and I said no
00:42:34and they told me
00:42:35everything that he
00:42:36had done.
00:42:37That's kind of odd
00:42:38that we have a murder,
00:42:4020-year sentence,
00:42:41he's out for a year
00:42:42and a half
00:42:43and then another murder
00:42:44happens.
00:42:45Nobody knew
00:42:45that he had
00:42:46a criminal past
00:42:47at Thanksgiving.
00:42:49My Aunt Mandy
00:42:50brought a convicted felon
00:42:52to a Christian household
00:42:54and had dinner
00:42:55with everybody
00:42:56and didn't tell
00:42:58a single person
00:42:58that he had just
00:42:59gotten out of prison
00:43:00for murder.
00:43:04On that piece
00:43:05of paper
00:43:05was a phone
00:43:07that Larry Richmond
00:43:09Sr. was in possession
00:43:10of at the time
00:43:11of his arrest.
00:43:14He got that phone
00:43:15from a person
00:43:16named Laura Riggle.
00:43:17During our investigation
00:43:18we did talk
00:43:18to Laura Riggle.
00:43:19We kind of
00:43:20we would like to know
00:43:22more about the nature
00:43:23of yours
00:43:24and Larry's relationship.
00:43:26Larry and I
00:43:27got to know each other
00:43:29more I should say.
00:43:31It was in December
00:43:32before Christmas
00:43:33we started talking
00:43:34and then we actually
00:43:35started seeing each other
00:43:36in January.
00:43:37You said seeing each other
00:43:38you mean like
00:43:38going on dates
00:43:39and stuff like that?
00:43:40Okay.
00:43:41I do know
00:43:41he lives with Mandy.
00:43:43Uh-huh.
00:43:43She does not know.
00:43:46So what was going
00:43:47to happen
00:43:48between him and Mandy?
00:43:49They were breaking up.
00:43:54Through the course
00:43:55of our investigation
00:43:55there were several
00:43:56women who were
00:43:57romantically involved
00:43:58with Larry Richmond
00:43:59Sr.
00:44:02around the time
00:44:02of the murder
00:44:03in February of 2019.
00:44:05What about him?
00:44:06Is that the woman
00:44:06he messes with?
00:44:07I didn't know
00:44:08about the others.
00:44:10What motive
00:44:10do you think
00:44:11that he could have
00:44:11or do something
00:44:12as he did it?
00:44:13I just can't imagine
00:44:14him doing it.
00:44:16There is no motive.
00:44:18The first night
00:44:19that we had contact
00:44:20with Mandy
00:44:20she was a mess.
00:44:22I don't know.
00:44:23I'm not a
00:44:24troublemaker.
00:44:25I don't know.
00:44:26And then
00:44:27the next time
00:44:28we had kind of
00:44:29built a little bit
00:44:29of a rapport
00:44:30with her.
00:44:31So let's go
00:44:33back further
00:44:34to the day
00:44:35that Robbie
00:44:37gets killed.
00:44:37To your best
00:44:38recollection
00:44:39and where's Larry?
00:44:43I don't know.
00:44:44Mandy,
00:44:45why did you tell
00:44:45investigators
00:44:46that Larry
00:44:46was with you
00:44:47at home
00:44:48that night?
00:44:50Was Larry there?
00:44:51Yeah,
00:44:51we were all there.
00:44:53We were all there.
00:44:54Kids, Larry.
00:44:55Mm-hmm.
00:44:57Because he was
00:44:57with me all the time.
00:44:59He was there
00:44:59every night.
00:45:00I didn't know
00:45:01what night
00:45:01they were talking about.
00:45:03The night
00:45:04of the shooting.
00:45:05But I didn't know
00:45:07what night
00:45:09that was.
00:45:10That's what
00:45:10they were talking
00:45:11to me about.
00:45:11I thought they meant
00:45:12did he come home
00:45:13that night?
00:45:14Yes, he came
00:45:15home that night.
00:45:16I knew this was bad
00:45:18but my first
00:45:19inclination wasn't
00:45:21oh, what'd you do?
00:45:22So they reveal,
00:45:23they tell you a lot
00:45:24of what's going on.
00:45:25Oh, yes.
00:45:25They reveal some things
00:45:26to you.
00:45:26Oh, yes.
00:45:28I thought he was
00:45:29cheating on me.
00:45:30Okay.
00:45:30I can tell you
00:45:31he was.
00:45:32I'm with a lot
00:45:33of women
00:45:33and we've had
00:45:34one just walked
00:45:35out of here
00:45:35and we had
00:45:36one in here
00:45:37last night.
00:45:38Okay.
00:45:38So you're not
00:45:39the only one
00:45:39in this trick bag.
00:45:41So you had
00:45:41another life
00:45:42going on.
00:45:42Yeah.
00:45:43Girlfriends.
00:45:45Plural.
00:45:45Yeah.
00:45:46You don't think
00:45:47he was using you?
00:45:48No.
00:45:49For what?
00:45:50For what?
00:45:52I'm a train wreck.
00:45:55I got...
00:45:58This heart
00:45:59about all
00:46:00I have to offer.
00:46:01Okay.
00:46:01Do you have
00:46:03any other
00:46:03suspicions
00:46:04that Larry
00:46:05and your sister
00:46:06had anything
00:46:06going on?
00:46:08Okay.
00:46:10Your sister
00:46:10is in custody
00:46:11for deleting
00:46:12a phone call
00:46:12that was very
00:46:14important
00:46:14and there's
00:46:15a five-minute
00:46:16phone call
00:46:17right before
00:46:18Robbie's murder.
00:46:19I mean,
00:46:19minutes before
00:46:20Robbie's murder
00:46:21and guess
00:46:21who that came
00:46:22from?
00:46:24Larry.
00:46:28What do you
00:46:28think is going
00:46:29on between
00:46:29Larry and
00:46:30your sister?
00:46:32I thought
00:46:33we went out
00:46:33with him
00:46:33three times.
00:46:35That's what
00:46:36I thought.
00:46:37Were your
00:46:38sister Becky
00:46:39and Larry
00:46:39having an affair?
00:46:41That is
00:46:42the word.
00:46:44After the
00:46:44murder,
00:46:45Amanda Fillmore
00:46:46was never a
00:46:46suspect and
00:46:47police found
00:46:48her to be
00:46:49telling the truth.
00:46:50Mandy was
00:46:50never charged
00:46:51with anything
00:46:51in this case.
00:46:52Mandy was
00:46:53deeply in love
00:46:54with Larry
00:46:55Richman Sr.
00:46:56In her mind
00:46:57that Larry
00:46:57had nothing
00:46:58to do with this.
00:46:59Looking back,
00:47:00it was very
00:47:01apparent.
00:47:02My mom
00:47:03had something
00:47:04to do with it.
00:47:05When one of your
00:47:05first question is
00:47:06after your husband
00:47:07dies,
00:47:08what about
00:47:09his pension?
00:47:09I call her
00:47:11an affidabanger
00:47:12of murdering.
00:47:32it was strange
00:47:33being in the
00:47:34house by
00:47:34myself.
00:47:36I'm in
00:47:37Rob's house
00:47:38who is no
00:47:40longer alive
00:47:41and my mother
00:47:43is in question
00:47:44now for his
00:47:45murder.
00:47:46I felt terrible
00:47:47about even just
00:47:48being in his
00:47:48house.
00:47:49Why am I in
00:47:50his house
00:47:50and he's not?
00:47:51It's our top
00:47:52story tonight.
00:47:53Charges have
00:47:53been dropped
00:47:54against the wife
00:47:55of a murdered
00:47:56Evansville
00:47:56firefighter
00:47:57seven months
00:47:58after they
00:47:58were filed.
00:47:59Elizabeth Fox
00:48:00Doerr was
00:48:01charged with
00:48:02obstruction of
00:48:03justice.
00:48:03My mother
00:48:04did finally
00:48:05get released
00:48:06from jail.
00:48:07She lived
00:48:08with me.
00:48:09She and I
00:48:10had some
00:48:11very tense
00:48:11conversations.
00:48:12Like, why
00:48:13did I believe
00:48:14that you did
00:48:14this?
00:48:15I don't know,
00:48:16Nathan.
00:48:17Well, why
00:48:18would they ever?
00:48:19Nathan, I
00:48:19don't know.
00:48:24The night
00:48:25of, she
00:48:26talked to me
00:48:27about his
00:48:27pension.
00:48:28Will I get
00:48:29any of it?
00:48:29How do I get
00:48:30a hold of it?
00:48:34The day
00:48:35after the
00:48:35murder, we
00:48:37were told by
00:48:37a spouse of
00:48:39a firefighter.
00:48:39She had showed
00:48:40up at the
00:48:41firehouse asking
00:48:42about his
00:48:42pension.
00:48:44Yes, I did
00:48:45ask about the
00:48:46pension after he
00:48:47was killed
00:48:47because I
00:48:48had so many
00:48:49people asking
00:48:50me about his
00:48:51pension and
00:48:52his life
00:48:52insurance.
00:48:53That's why I
00:48:54went where I
00:48:55thought that I
00:48:56could find those
00:48:57answers.
00:48:58The fact that
00:48:59she was there
00:49:00the next day
00:49:00inquiring about
00:49:01a pension,
00:49:02that was
00:49:02definitely on
00:49:03our radar.
00:49:08Larry Richmond
00:49:09Jr. told us
00:49:10a lot about
00:49:11Larry Sr.
00:49:11I'm going to
00:49:12give you the
00:49:13floor here for
00:49:13a second, and
00:49:14I want you to
00:49:14tell me anything
00:49:15that you left
00:49:16out from the
00:49:17other night.
00:49:17Do you think
00:49:18your dad's
00:49:18involved in
00:49:19the murder
00:49:19of Robbie?
00:49:20I hope not.
00:49:23As far as
00:49:23Jr., it all
00:49:25didn't come out
00:49:25at one time.
00:49:27We didn't know
00:49:27about the affair
00:49:28until later.
00:49:29Has he ever
00:49:30talked about
00:49:30Becky before?
00:49:32He said one
00:49:33time that they
00:49:33went out to
00:49:34Pistons, and
00:49:35like, I guess
00:49:37Becky was
00:49:37drunk, and
00:49:38like, the
00:49:39firefighter dude
00:49:40was there too,
00:49:41and they
00:49:41was just
00:49:42dancing,
00:49:43doing all
00:49:44this, and
00:49:44Becky kept
00:49:45looking at
00:49:45him.
00:49:46He said
00:49:47she was
00:49:47cute and
00:49:48fine.
00:49:50Dog, that's
00:49:51your girl's
00:49:51sister.
00:49:53What are you
00:49:53doing?
00:49:55I was like,
00:49:56did you
00:49:56Becky?
00:49:58He was like,
00:50:00no, and
00:50:00then I asked
00:50:01him again,
00:50:02he was like,
00:50:02man, I
00:50:03had to.
00:50:08I was like,
00:50:09dog, you're
00:50:09a damn
00:50:10dad.
00:50:11And Evansville
00:50:12father and
00:50:12son are
00:50:13facing federal
00:50:13weapons charges.
00:50:15Junior, he
00:50:16did something
00:50:17terrible by
00:50:17stealing a
00:50:18gun, but he
00:50:19did take
00:50:19responsibility
00:50:20for it, and
00:50:21eventually
00:50:21pleaded guilty.
00:50:22He didn't
00:50:22have any
00:50:23part in the
00:50:23murder.
00:50:24Larry Sr.
00:50:25was convicted
00:50:25for possession
00:50:26of a handgun
00:50:26by a felon
00:50:27and having
00:50:28obliterated
00:50:29serial numbers.
00:50:30He was in
00:50:31custody, so
00:50:32we just
00:50:32kind of say,
00:50:33hey, let's
00:50:33slow everything
00:50:33down.
00:50:34He's not a
00:50:34threat to
00:50:35society.
00:50:39I thought
00:50:40it would
00:50:40be a
00:50:41simple,
00:50:41speedy
00:50:41process.
00:50:43And here
00:50:43we are
00:50:44one year
00:50:45later.
00:50:48The police,
00:50:49it didn't feel
00:50:49like they were
00:50:50making headway
00:50:50on what
00:50:51happened.
00:50:52And that's
00:50:53when my
00:50:53anger started
00:50:54to really
00:50:55set in.
00:50:59my mother
00:51:00got another
00:51:01boyfriend very
00:51:02quickly.
00:51:04And then she
00:51:05very quickly
00:51:05after that,
00:51:06almost like
00:51:07the next day,
00:51:08got another
00:51:09boyfriend.
00:51:10I have had
00:51:11several strong
00:51:12words about
00:51:13my mother in
00:51:14private, talking
00:51:15with a therapist,
00:51:16with police.
00:51:18Hey.
00:51:19Hi.
00:51:21She's engaged
00:51:22again.
00:51:23Engaged
00:51:24again?
00:51:24Yes.
00:51:24And like
00:51:26we just
00:51:26discussed,
00:51:26it hasn't
00:51:27even been
00:51:27a year.
00:51:28Correct.
00:51:29She had
00:51:30two boyfriends
00:51:31before this
00:51:32gentleman.
00:51:33My oldest
00:51:34son, Nathan,
00:51:36misunderstood
00:51:36the situation.
00:51:38I was not
00:51:39engaged to a
00:51:40man after
00:51:41Rob died.
00:51:42I did have
00:51:43somebody ask
00:51:44me to marry
00:51:45them, but I
00:51:46told them that
00:51:47I didn't think
00:51:48that I would
00:51:48ever get
00:51:48married again.
00:51:50Mom,
00:51:51was that on
00:51:51your hand?
00:51:52She was,
00:51:52oh,
00:51:52nothing.
00:51:53I called
00:51:54her.
00:52:04I believe it was
00:52:05a year into
00:52:06the case,
00:52:07lead investigator
00:52:08Blake Keene
00:52:09did a press
00:52:09conference.
00:52:11It's the person
00:52:12of interest
00:52:12in this case.
00:52:14He identified
00:52:14Larry Richmond
00:52:15Sr. as a
00:52:16person of interest.
00:52:1841-year-old
00:52:18Enzo resident
00:52:19Larry Holly
00:52:20Richmond Sr.
00:52:21Richmond Sr.
00:52:22had a relationship
00:52:22with the
00:52:23door family
00:52:23at the time
00:52:24Robert was
00:52:24executed.
00:52:25We were
00:52:26pleading for
00:52:26the public
00:52:27to, if they
00:52:28knew any
00:52:28information,
00:52:29to call in.
00:52:30There was
00:52:30the news
00:52:31conference and
00:52:31then we
00:52:32didn't hear
00:52:32much at all
00:52:32after that.
00:52:33I'm glad
00:52:34they have
00:52:34a person
00:52:34of interest,
00:52:37but where
00:52:38do we go
00:52:38from here?
00:52:40There's been
00:52:41a big
00:52:41development
00:52:42in this case.
00:52:43An inmate
00:52:43who was locked
00:52:44up with
00:52:44Larry Sr.
00:52:45told investigators
00:52:46that Larry Sr.
00:52:47confessed to
00:52:48killing Robbie.
00:52:50Mohammed reached
00:52:51out to the
00:52:51Evansville Police
00:52:52Department.
00:52:52He reported
00:52:53that Sr.
00:52:54and him
00:52:54had confided
00:52:55in each other.
00:52:56They were bunkmates.
00:52:59This is Detective
00:53:00King and Detective
00:53:02Loose.
00:53:03It is
00:53:04August 25th,
00:53:05around 1643 hours.
00:53:08I'm here with
00:53:09Mohammed.
00:53:11Who are you
00:53:11talking about?
00:53:12Larry,
00:53:13Larry Richmond.
00:53:17He mentioned
00:53:18he killed
00:53:18a firefighter
00:53:20in Evansville,
00:53:20Indiana.
00:53:22He said
00:53:23he shot a rifle
00:53:23in front of
00:53:24his house
00:53:25in the nighttime.
00:53:30He had it all
00:53:31affair with her.
00:53:34He said
00:53:34if they get rid
00:53:35of the rifle,
00:53:36he said
00:53:36the black
00:53:37beneficiary
00:53:37will be
00:53:38like him.
00:53:42It appeared
00:53:43that the
00:53:44information
00:53:44from Mohammed
00:53:45was somewhat
00:53:46accurate according
00:53:47to our theory
00:53:48of the case.
00:53:49There was
00:53:50information
00:53:51that was not
00:53:51shared publicly
00:53:52that was known
00:53:54in what he
00:53:55had reported.
00:53:57How is this
00:53:58cell person
00:53:59supposed to know
00:53:59that we're having
00:54:00an affair?
00:54:01Did he witness it?
00:54:02Or are we just
00:54:03grasping at straws?
00:54:05I never had an affair
00:54:07with Larry Richmond,
00:54:08Sr.
00:54:08never.
00:54:10There was nothing
00:54:11between us.
00:54:12Shortly after
00:54:13Larry Richmond, Sr.
00:54:14is named
00:54:15a person of interest
00:54:16in this case,
00:54:16investigators want
00:54:17to get a hold
00:54:17of his cell phone
00:54:18to see if it
00:54:19could hold
00:54:19any clues.
00:54:21Our hypothesis
00:54:22is that Larry
00:54:23Richmond, Sr.
00:54:24had his phone
00:54:24on him
00:54:25and that the
00:54:26location data
00:54:27can put him
00:54:28at the scene
00:54:28of the crime
00:54:29at 7.05 p.m.
00:54:31Unfortunately,
00:54:31we didn't have
00:54:32that information.
00:54:34Larry Richmond, Sr.
00:54:35did not want
00:54:36to provide a passcode
00:54:36to the phone.
00:54:38There was frustration.
00:54:39The family
00:54:39was frustrated.
00:54:40We were frustrated.
00:54:42We felt like
00:54:42we were close
00:54:43and you just
00:54:44needed this
00:54:44one big break
00:54:45to really push
00:54:46this case forward.
00:55:07When I was a firefighter,
00:55:08it's not the kind
00:55:09of case that
00:55:10just goes cold.
00:55:11Everybody wants
00:55:11an answer.
00:55:12It was very trying.
00:55:14It's frustrating.
00:55:15It's heartbreaking.
00:55:18It feels
00:55:19like an eternity.
00:55:34when Larry Richmond, Sr.
00:55:36was taken into custody
00:55:37on March 4th of 2019.
00:55:40I'll let somebody
00:55:41else tell you that.
00:55:42We seized
00:55:43two phones from him.
00:55:46We got search warrants
00:55:47for those phones,
00:55:49but what ultimately
00:55:50slowed us down
00:55:50was we didn't have
00:55:51a passcode
00:55:52for Larry's iPhone.
00:55:54I'm John Carter.
00:55:55I'm a criminal investigator
00:55:57with the High Tech Crime Unit
00:55:58out of the Vandenberg County
00:55:59Prosecutor's Office.
00:56:00The equipment
00:56:01that the Evansville
00:56:02Police Department
00:56:03had at the time,
00:56:04you had to have
00:56:04a passcode in order
00:56:05to get the information
00:56:06from the phone,
00:56:07which is where we took over
00:56:08with our new tools
00:56:10and techniques
00:56:10to acquire that passcode.
00:56:15The computer system
00:56:16just runs an algorithm
00:56:17of passwords
00:56:18and we have no say
00:56:21in how long that is.
00:56:22Those algorithms
00:56:23can take seconds.
00:56:25We've had phones
00:56:26that have taken up
00:56:26to two years.
00:56:27I believe in this
00:56:28particular case,
00:56:29it was anywhere
00:56:30between six to eight months.
00:56:32I remember that day well
00:56:34that John called me
00:56:35and said,
00:56:36hey, we got into Larry Sr.'s phone.
00:56:38We have the content.
00:56:40Utilizing the digital evidence
00:56:42that we discovered
00:56:43from his phone,
00:56:44we were able to build
00:56:45a bigger picture
00:56:46of what had occurred
00:56:47that night.
00:56:51In the six o'clock hour,
00:56:53Larry Richman Sr.'s phone
00:56:55is all within that area
00:56:56of the door residence
00:56:58as if he's just slithering,
00:57:00snaking around.
00:57:03There's foot traffic
00:57:05and then eventually
00:57:06in the alley
00:57:07from 631 to 639.
00:57:09This guy is able
00:57:10to be in the alley
00:57:11at the exact time
00:57:12a fireman comes home.
00:57:16Shortly after,
00:57:18he's talking to Elizabeth
00:57:19on the phone
00:57:20at 646 to 651.
00:57:23In the interview
00:57:24with Becky Fox-Door,
00:57:25we got her to admit
00:57:26that, yes,
00:57:27I told him he would
00:57:28be home shortly.
00:57:31We don't know
00:57:32where Larry's location
00:57:33was between 652
00:57:35and 714
00:57:37because his phone
00:57:38is powered off.
00:57:40It's not until you actually
00:57:41came to this alley
00:57:42and saw it with your own eyes
00:57:44that you can really understand
00:57:45now where he was.
00:57:55This is the path
00:57:56that Robbie took
00:57:57for the last moments
00:57:58of his life.
00:57:59He would have turned north
00:58:00here on Oakley
00:58:01to get to his house.
00:58:02This was not a normal time
00:58:03for Robbie to be coming home.
00:58:05He was picking up
00:58:06a shift for someone else,
00:58:07which was also important
00:58:08because it meant
00:58:09he came home at night.
00:58:10Normally, his shift
00:58:10would dictate
00:58:11that he would work
00:58:13and come home
00:58:14in the morning.
00:58:15And there's only one person
00:58:16that would know
00:58:17that Robbie's on his way home
00:58:19or what time
00:58:19he's expected home.
00:58:20And that's Elizabeth.
00:58:25This far as her
00:58:26cooking that night
00:58:27and preparing dinner
00:58:28for Robbie,
00:58:29in my personal opinion,
00:58:30Robbie Dorr
00:58:31is never going to eat
00:58:31those pork chops that night.
00:58:33I truly believe
00:58:34that this timeline
00:58:35was set up.
00:58:36The fact is this.
00:58:37She's at home.
00:58:39She's making dinner.
00:58:41There's someone waiting,
00:58:43Larry,
00:58:44with a gun.
00:58:45My dad pulls into a driveway
00:58:47and he literally,
00:58:49quite literally,
00:58:50runs out of his shoes
00:58:51to get away.
00:58:56To get away.
00:58:59I don't think his door
00:59:00was even shut
00:59:02before shots
00:59:03started going off.
00:59:04I don't know how
00:59:05to explain Larry Sr.,
00:59:08the evidence,
00:59:11digital,
00:59:12of him being around the house.
00:59:14I don't know how
00:59:15to explain that.
00:59:17I do know that his mother
00:59:19lives very close by,
00:59:20like, I think,
00:59:21a street over.
00:59:22All I know is
00:59:23I did not know
00:59:25he was around the house.
00:59:27I think that
00:59:27she 100% knows
00:59:29what happened
00:59:29on that conversation
00:59:30with Larry.
00:59:359-1-1.
00:59:36Yeah, yeah,
00:59:37I just heard shots fired.
00:59:39First Avenue, Colorado.
00:59:41It's the alley behind.
00:59:43How many did you hear?
00:59:44Five.
00:59:46The night
00:59:46that Rob got murdered,
00:59:49Larry said he was
00:59:50going to go to his mom's
00:59:50house and move
00:59:51the furniture.
00:59:52Long story short,
00:59:54I get there,
00:59:55he's not there,
00:59:57he's gone to run
00:59:58an errand for his mother.
00:59:59We had a residence here
01:00:01that heard the shooting.
01:00:03They heard all five shots
01:00:05and stepped out
01:00:06onto their front porch
01:00:07and watched a subject
01:00:09sprint from one side
01:00:12of the street
01:00:12to the other
01:00:13and disappearing
01:00:14between homes and businesses.
01:00:20at 7-11 p.m.
01:00:22video surveillance
01:00:23shows that he's
01:00:24arrived at Circle K
01:00:26and he powers his phone
01:00:27back up
01:00:28while he's at Circle K
01:00:29at 7-14 p.m.
01:00:31And once we reviewed
01:00:32that video surveillance,
01:00:33we noticed,
01:00:33you know,
01:00:34it's February,
01:00:34it's cold,
01:00:35and Larry's only wearing
01:00:37some shoes,
01:00:38some jeans,
01:00:39and a sleeveless T-shirt.
01:00:40We thought that was
01:00:41a little odd,
01:00:42but, you know,
01:00:43it seemed to us
01:00:44that Larry didn't have
01:00:45a care in the world.
01:00:46We never stop on cases,
01:00:47and especially
01:00:48on a murder case.
01:00:51We had to take
01:00:52all of the different pieces,
01:00:54provide what our theory was,
01:00:56essentially,
01:00:57and then allow a jury
01:00:58to decide.
01:00:59A short while ago,
01:01:00Larry Richman Sr.
01:01:01and Elizabeth Foxdor
01:01:02were charged
01:01:03with the murder of Robbie.
01:01:04When they finally told me
01:01:05they were going to charge
01:01:06both of them with murder,
01:01:07I was like,
01:01:08well, all right, let's go.
01:01:10We've got this.
01:01:11It absolutely led
01:01:12our news that night.
01:01:14Foxdor is charged
01:01:15with murder
01:01:16alongside Larry Richman Sr.
01:01:19I didn't do it.
01:01:20That is the truth.
01:01:22I didn't do it.
01:01:24If you're asking me
01:01:25if I shot and killed
01:01:26Robbie Dore,
01:01:27no, I did not.
01:01:28Your son says
01:01:28you smashed that
01:01:30talking about Becky.
01:01:31Never.
01:01:32Come on.
01:01:33Never.
01:01:34Never happened.
01:01:35Never happened.
01:01:36Oh, I was very surprised
01:01:38to be charged with murder
01:01:39and conspiracy
01:01:41to commit murder.
01:01:42I was shot.
01:01:44They don't want you
01:01:46to listen
01:01:47to the truth.
01:01:49I felt like
01:01:50I just listened
01:01:51to a screenplay
01:01:52of a crime novel
01:01:54that was based
01:01:56entirely on fiction.
01:02:08Elizabeth Foxdor is charged
01:02:10with murder
01:02:10and conspiring
01:02:12with Larry Richman
01:02:13to commit that murder.
01:02:14Her trial is scheduled
01:02:15to be heard first.
01:02:16She's pleaded not guilty.
01:02:18If she's convicted,
01:02:19she could face
01:02:19up to life in prison.
01:02:23My name is Mark Phillips
01:02:24and I am lead counsel
01:02:26in the trial
01:02:27involving our client,
01:02:28Becky Foxdor.
01:02:29My name is Rob Phillips
01:02:30and I'm the co-counsel
01:02:32in the case
01:02:32of Becky Foxdor.
01:02:34You have heard supposition
01:02:37that there was
01:02:39a conversation
01:02:39between Larry
01:02:40and Becky
01:02:41about a murder
01:02:42and that's not true.
01:02:45I'm Diana Merce.
01:02:46I'm the Vanderburgh
01:02:46County prosecutor.
01:02:47This was the first
01:02:48murder case
01:02:49that I took on
01:02:50as the elected prosecutor
01:02:52so the pressure was on.
01:02:53I didn't intend
01:02:54for any of this
01:02:55to happen.
01:02:56This is what
01:02:56the defendant
01:02:57told detectives
01:02:58who were questioning her
01:02:59that night
01:03:00about the death
01:03:00of her husband.
01:03:01Becky Foxdor
01:03:02was the co-conspirator
01:03:04not the shooter
01:03:05and so in a conspiracy case
01:03:07you have to prove
01:03:08a meeting of the minds
01:03:09and you know
01:03:09you're doing that
01:03:10with circumstantial evidence.
01:03:11They have a phone
01:03:12conversation around
01:03:13the time of the murder
01:03:14and it lasts
01:03:15for four minutes
01:03:15and 18 seconds
01:03:16and then he turns
01:03:17his phone off.
01:03:18This one's completely
01:03:19black with no data
01:03:20at all.
01:03:21Around 7, 12 p.m.
01:03:23Larry Richmond Sr.
01:03:25pulls up in a Ford Taurus
01:03:27and soon after
01:03:28enters the store
01:03:29and then leaves.
01:03:31Just 15 minutes
01:03:33before Robbie Doer
01:03:34was ambushed
01:03:34and killed
01:03:35the defendant spoke
01:03:36with Larry Richmond Sr.
01:03:38on the phone
01:03:38as soon as the defendant
01:03:40was finished talking
01:03:41she deleted
01:03:42that phone call.
01:03:45The only thing
01:03:46that she did
01:03:47was not remember
01:03:48the deletion
01:03:49of a call
01:03:49and that that somehow
01:03:52morphed into
01:03:53this conspiracy theory.
01:03:55By that time
01:03:56did you delete
01:03:56Larry's phone number?
01:03:57It is a habit
01:03:58for me to delete
01:03:59phone calls
01:03:59because Larry's not a person
01:04:01I normally talk to
01:04:02so I delete it.
01:04:03It's ridiculous
01:04:04that it's about
01:04:05a phone call
01:04:07that I took
01:04:08and I deleted.
01:04:10The defense says
01:04:11there's no evidence
01:04:11suggesting their client
01:04:12planned the killing
01:04:13and today they tried
01:04:14to hammer that point
01:04:15home by grilling
01:04:16the original detective
01:04:18in the case.
01:04:18There was a phone
01:04:19conversation
01:04:20that you asked
01:04:21Becky about
01:04:22at some point,
01:04:22correct?
01:04:23Correct.
01:04:24And you allege
01:04:25it's with Larry
01:04:25Richmond Sr., right?
01:04:27It is, yes.
01:04:28Is that correct?
01:04:29Yep.
01:04:29Okay.
01:04:30Yes.
01:04:30You have no idea
01:04:31what they talked about,
01:04:31do you?
01:04:32No.
01:04:32And you know
01:04:33who initiated
01:04:34that call,
01:04:35don't you?
01:04:35He did.
01:04:36In fact,
01:04:36in your investigation
01:04:37you don't have
01:04:39any evidence
01:04:39that Becky Doer
01:04:40ever initiated
01:04:41a phone conversation
01:04:42of any kind
01:04:44with Larry Richmond Sr.,
01:04:45correct?
01:04:46Correct.
01:04:46Fox Door
01:04:47and Richmond Sr.
01:04:49may have been
01:04:49romantically involved.
01:04:50She has photos
01:04:51with him,
01:04:52she spent holidays
01:04:53with him,
01:04:54and they even went
01:04:55on a double date
01:04:56with her sister
01:04:57and Robbie Doer.
01:05:00There was a dramatic
01:05:01moment at the end
01:05:02of the day today.
01:05:03The son of co-defendant
01:05:04Larry Richmond Sr.,
01:05:05he took the stand.
01:05:06Larry Jr. was a good
01:05:07witness.
01:05:08He didn't want his
01:05:08father bringing him down
01:05:10and he knew
01:05:11if he didn't tell
01:05:12the truth
01:05:12that it would.
01:05:14Do you know
01:05:14the defendant
01:05:15in this case,
01:05:16Elizabeth Fox Door,
01:05:17have you ever met her?
01:05:19Yes.
01:05:20She got in the vehicle
01:05:21and that's the first
01:05:21time you saw her?
01:05:22Mm-hmm.
01:05:23And did anything happen
01:05:24before she got
01:05:25out of the car?
01:05:26They kissed.
01:05:27They kissed?
01:05:27Mm-hmm.
01:05:28And was it
01:05:29a mutual kiss
01:05:30or could you tell?
01:05:31Yes, they both
01:05:32went in.
01:05:33I did not have
01:05:34an affair with him.
01:05:35I had
01:05:36no relationship
01:05:37with him.
01:05:38His relationship
01:05:39was with my sister.
01:05:41Larry Richmond Jr.
01:05:42took the stand
01:05:43and told a story
01:05:44about seeing his father
01:05:46kiss Becky
01:05:47behind Robbie Doerr's
01:05:48home in approximately
01:05:49March of 2018.
01:05:52And if there's evidence
01:05:53in this trial
01:05:54that she didn't even
01:05:55live there
01:05:56in March of 2018,
01:05:58that put a dent
01:05:59in your story,
01:06:00wouldn't it?
01:06:00Yes.
01:06:01You didn't know
01:06:02who she was
01:06:02before your dad
01:06:05got out of prison,
01:06:06correct?
01:06:06I may have
01:06:07about a time
01:06:08date.
01:06:09Oh, I didn't
01:06:09ask you that.
01:06:11Is that your sworn
01:06:11testimony here today?
01:06:13Yes.
01:06:14Larry Richmond Sr.
01:06:15hadn't even been
01:06:16released for prison
01:06:17at that point.
01:06:18Not only that,
01:06:19Becky Fox Doerr
01:06:20wasn't even living
01:06:21with Robbie Doerr
01:06:22at that point.
01:06:23The prosecution
01:06:24inquired about
01:06:25whether Fox Doerr
01:06:26might have been
01:06:26motivated by
01:06:27financial gain.
01:06:28Raise your right
01:06:29hand.
01:06:30Did your mother
01:06:30ever talk to you
01:06:31about the firefighter
01:06:32pension after the murder
01:06:34of Robbie Doerr?
01:06:35Yes.
01:06:36When's the first time
01:06:37she brought that
01:06:37conversation up?
01:06:39From my remembrance,
01:06:40almost the same night.
01:06:43And how many times
01:06:44did you say that
01:06:45she talked to you
01:06:46about it?
01:06:48We had a conversation
01:06:49about it daily
01:06:50and I got frustrated
01:06:53several times
01:06:54and I was like,
01:06:54Mom, there are procedures
01:06:55we have to go through
01:06:57to get to that point.
01:06:58There were times
01:06:59it looked as if
01:07:01like someone had just
01:07:02like gut punched her
01:07:03and it was sad
01:07:04to see this woman
01:07:05you grew up with
01:07:06sitting there.
01:07:09Her hair wasn't done
01:07:10like she normally
01:07:11would do it.
01:07:12Her makeup wasn't done.
01:07:13It was different.
01:07:15And I think
01:07:16it made it
01:07:18a little bit harder
01:07:20for me to
01:07:21be on the stand
01:07:22with her in the room
01:07:23looking the way
01:07:24that she did.
01:07:25When Nathan
01:07:26started testifying,
01:07:27it was like
01:07:28he flipped a switch
01:07:30and just turned
01:07:32into somebody else.
01:07:33It was pretty hard
01:07:34to watch.
01:07:36You know your mom
01:07:37was not a beneficiary
01:07:38for purposes
01:07:39of any financial benefit,
01:07:41correct?
01:07:41I don't know
01:07:42who's beneficiary
01:07:43on anything.
01:07:44If you were to learn
01:07:45that your mom
01:07:46had no financial interest
01:07:47as a result of Robby's death,
01:07:49would that surprise you?
01:07:51I mean,
01:07:52she,
01:07:53no.
01:07:54No.
01:07:54I was not motivated
01:07:55to kill him
01:07:56for his pension.
01:07:57I didn't kill him.
01:07:59Rob and I
01:08:00hadn't even talked
01:08:01about life insurance
01:08:02or pension
01:08:02or any of that.
01:08:04We were,
01:08:04we were just
01:08:05being married.
01:08:08They don't want
01:08:09you to listen
01:08:11to the truth.
01:08:12I felt like
01:08:13I just listened
01:08:14to a screenplay
01:08:15of a crime novel
01:08:17that was based
01:08:18entirely on fiction.
01:08:20I ask you
01:08:21to return
01:08:21the only verdict
01:08:22that's justified
01:08:23by the evidence
01:08:23in this case,
01:08:25murder
01:08:25and conspiracy
01:08:27to permit murder.
01:08:28With that,
01:08:28you may begin
01:08:29your deliberation.
01:08:30All rise.
01:08:32As prosecutors,
01:08:33you know who's guilty,
01:08:34right?
01:08:35But that's not good enough.
01:08:36The standard
01:08:36is beyond a reasonable doubt.
01:08:38When the jury
01:08:39returned a verdict,
01:08:40I can just remember
01:08:42being out on the set
01:08:43and the producer
01:08:44telling me in my ear,
01:08:45we're going to air it live.
01:08:46I close my eyes
01:08:49and tears
01:08:50just start flowing.
01:09:06state of indiana
01:09:08versus elizabeth,
01:09:09Joanne, Fox,
01:09:10door, verdict.
01:09:11The courtroom
01:09:12was tense
01:09:13in the moments
01:09:13leading up to
01:09:14the verdict reading
01:09:15and after more
01:09:15than four hours,
01:09:17the jury reached
01:09:18a decision.
01:09:19We, the jury,
01:09:20find the defendant
01:09:20guilty of count one.
01:09:23I held my aunt's hand
01:09:24and I held Nathan's hand
01:09:26and I closed my eyes
01:09:29and tears
01:09:30just start flowing.
01:09:31We, the jury,
01:09:32find the defendant
01:09:33guilty of count two.
01:09:35Like, that
01:09:36is all we could
01:09:37have ever hoped for.
01:09:40Thank God this is done.
01:09:43Thank God, Dad,
01:09:44can rest peacefully.
01:09:47When I heard the guilty
01:09:48verdict,
01:09:49I couldn't believe it.
01:09:50They got it wrong.
01:09:53They got it wrong.
01:09:57And all I could think
01:09:58was,
01:09:59this is my life
01:10:00you're playing with.
01:10:06Becky would later
01:10:07be sentenced
01:10:07by a judge,
01:10:0990 years
01:10:10in prison.
01:10:11So basically,
01:10:11she will be spending
01:10:12the rest of her life
01:10:13behind bars.
01:10:14All rise.
01:10:15It's horrible.
01:10:18I mean,
01:10:21I'm not guilty.
01:10:24There are people
01:10:26that are guilty
01:10:29and say they're guilty
01:10:31that get way less time
01:10:34than I'm looking at.
01:10:38The next time
01:10:39that she is going
01:10:40to be a part
01:10:41of the free world
01:10:42will be in a funeral
01:10:44in a graveyard somewhere.
01:10:46Everybody just has
01:10:47this idea
01:10:48that she's this
01:10:48villainous woman
01:10:49that was out for money.
01:10:51And I want more people
01:10:52to see the actual
01:10:54good side of her,
01:10:55the kind of person
01:10:57that she actually is.
01:10:58It's not adding up.
01:11:00There's something missing.
01:11:03It's awful
01:11:04to watch people
01:11:06that you love
01:11:07suffer their consequences.
01:11:10And do bad things?
01:11:11Mm-hmm.
01:11:14Do you believe
01:11:15your sister Becky
01:11:15plotted to kill Robbie?
01:11:18I don't think
01:11:18that it matters
01:11:19what I think.
01:11:20You don't have
01:11:21an opinion
01:11:21about whether
01:11:22Becky and Larry
01:11:23plotted to kill Robbie?
01:11:25The rational part
01:11:27of my brain
01:11:27says it would
01:11:28appear such,
01:11:29but I think
01:11:30the irrational heart
01:11:32is still
01:11:34begging the universe
01:11:35for a different answer.
01:11:37Police say
01:11:38back in 2019,
01:11:39Richmond conspired
01:11:41with Elizabeth Fox Doer
01:11:42to murder Robert Doer
01:11:43in the driveway
01:11:44of his home.
01:11:45His trial
01:11:46in the murder case
01:11:47is set to begin
01:11:48in December.
01:11:50I got a call
01:11:51from the seat
01:11:52public defender.
01:11:53They were looking
01:11:54for someone
01:11:54who was qualified
01:11:55to handle a life
01:11:56without parole case.
01:11:57She sent me an email
01:11:58and said,
01:11:59would I be interested?
01:12:00I said,
01:12:00well,
01:12:00this might be
01:12:01one of the only times
01:12:02I get a case like this,
01:12:03so let's give it a shot.
01:12:05The murder trial
01:12:06of Larry Richmond Sr.
01:12:08He's the man
01:12:08accused of shooting
01:12:09and killing
01:12:10Evansville firefighter
01:12:11Robert Doerr.
01:12:12During Becky's case,
01:12:13we heard all this testimony
01:12:14and saw a lot
01:12:15of the evidence
01:12:16at that time,
01:12:16so we knew
01:12:17what to expect
01:12:17going into this one.
01:12:18The whole conceit
01:12:19of the state's case
01:12:20is that this was
01:12:21a murder for hire.
01:12:22Day two of testimony
01:12:24in a high-profile
01:12:25murder trial
01:12:26in Evansville.
01:12:27Today,
01:12:27jurors heard
01:12:28from someone
01:12:29at the center
01:12:29of the case.
01:12:30You know,
01:12:31we're relying heavily
01:12:32on witness testimony,
01:12:33so Mandy,
01:12:34the night of,
01:12:35where is Larry Richmond?
01:12:37Larry's trial,
01:12:38what was that like?
01:12:40Just sad.
01:12:42And the essence
01:12:43of what you said
01:12:44at the stand,
01:12:45what was it?
01:12:47That I didn't know
01:12:48where he was.
01:12:48That you didn't know
01:12:49where he was?
01:12:50That he wasn't
01:12:52at his mom's.
01:12:55Like I said,
01:12:55he came back so fast
01:12:56I didn't think
01:12:57anything of it.
01:12:58So they tell you
01:12:59the phone is pinging
01:13:01at the scene
01:13:02of the crime,
01:13:02and then you see him
01:13:03going into that
01:13:04gas station.
01:13:05What conclusions
01:13:06do you come to?
01:13:08He was going
01:13:09to get cigarettes.
01:13:10I think that she
01:13:11was having problems
01:13:13and maybe still is
01:13:15grasping that
01:13:16he did this,
01:13:18but I just found
01:13:19her to be just
01:13:20honest and open
01:13:21and able to tell
01:13:22the jury her story
01:13:23because she was
01:13:23telling the truth.
01:13:25Larry was never
01:13:27at the Fox Doors'
01:13:28house during the time
01:13:29of the shooting.
01:13:30He was at his mom's
01:13:31house the entire time.
01:13:32Larry was involved
01:13:33with a lot of women,
01:13:34so his phone was
01:13:35constantly ringing,
01:13:36and so mom had said,
01:13:38hey, turn your phone off.
01:13:39Spend time with me,
01:13:40and then he goes
01:13:41to get gas,
01:13:41turns his phone back on,
01:13:43and then we see him
01:13:44at the gas station.
01:13:46This is a circumstantial
01:13:47evidence case,
01:13:48and the evidence
01:13:49was just piled up high
01:13:50against their client.
01:13:52The fates of an
01:13:53Evansville man is now
01:13:54in the hands of a jury.
01:13:55I think they deliberated
01:13:56for around 11 hours or so.
01:14:00We, the jury,
01:14:01find the defendant,
01:14:02Larry Ollie Richmond,
01:14:03guilty of murder.
01:14:07I was hurt.
01:14:09I was sad for Larry
01:14:10because I had,
01:14:11that was not
01:14:12what I had envisioned.
01:14:14I had not envisioned
01:14:15hearing one word.
01:14:16I had envisioned
01:14:17hearing two words.
01:14:18This is, this is the end,
01:14:20and we can finally be able
01:14:21to put this past us
01:14:22and be able to just
01:14:24grieve the way we need to
01:14:26instead of it being
01:14:26thrown in our face
01:14:27constantly.
01:14:29The man convicted
01:14:31of killing an
01:14:31Evansville firefighter
01:14:32seven years ago
01:14:34will spend the rest
01:14:35of his life
01:14:35in prison.
01:14:38Oh, some days
01:14:39I'm mad in hell.
01:14:40It was seven years ago.
01:14:42I have to, like,
01:14:43sometimes I just have
01:14:44to put it in the past
01:14:46and be like,
01:14:46okay, this is where
01:14:47we are now.
01:14:48He does not say
01:14:49he does it.
01:14:50He, to this day,
01:14:51did not do it.
01:14:52Well, then you understand
01:14:54he's lying to you.
01:14:55Right.
01:14:56And himself.
01:14:57People watching this
01:14:58are going to ask
01:14:59what keeps her
01:15:01connected to Larry
01:15:02after everything
01:15:04you've been through.
01:15:15After everything happened,
01:15:16my mom was angry,
01:15:17but she still loved him,
01:15:19and I don't think
01:15:20she has ever
01:15:21stopped loving him.
01:15:23People watching this
01:15:24are going to ask
01:15:25what keeps her
01:15:26connected to Larry
01:15:28after everything
01:15:29you've been through.
01:15:31I think over
01:15:33the course of time,
01:15:35I've been through
01:15:36so many ups and downs
01:15:37with do I believe it,
01:15:39don't I believe it,
01:15:40and then I'm talking
01:15:41to him,
01:15:41and he's convinced me
01:15:42that he didn't do it,
01:15:43and then I get
01:15:44more information,
01:15:45and it's just,
01:15:46I've gone back and forth
01:15:47so many times
01:15:48that I've just decided
01:15:50that he's another
01:15:51human being
01:15:52that God has
01:15:53given me to love.
01:15:54Is he seeing
01:15:55anyone else?
01:15:56I don't know,
01:15:57probably.
01:15:58I hear that's
01:15:59what the inmates do,
01:16:01but I have no way
01:16:02of knowing.
01:16:03I don't ever know.
01:16:04Would that matter
01:16:05to you?
01:16:06No.
01:16:07So you're still
01:16:07sort of together.
01:16:09You're still
01:16:09engaged.
01:16:10Yeah.
01:16:10Well, yeah.
01:16:11Engaged.
01:16:12Yeah.
01:16:13But, yeah.
01:16:14But I'm also,
01:16:18God,
01:16:19I just feel so stupid
01:16:21when I talk about it,
01:16:22but I get what I need
01:16:25from him.
01:16:27From Larry?
01:16:28Yeah.
01:16:29He wants to talk
01:16:30to me in the morning.
01:16:32He wants me to tell him
01:16:34when I'm home,
01:16:34safe from work.
01:16:37He has begged me
01:16:39not to leave him.
01:16:40He says he needs me,
01:16:42and I want to be loved
01:16:44and wanted and needed
01:16:45and all the things.
01:16:47You regret bringing him
01:16:48into your family?
01:16:49I mean,
01:16:51yeah,
01:16:52look at us now.
01:16:59This whole case
01:17:00is built upon one thing,
01:17:01a deleted phone call.
01:17:05I don't know
01:17:06if my life would have
01:17:07unfolded differently
01:17:07if I had just told him
01:17:09about the phone call.
01:17:11They still,
01:17:12I think, honestly,
01:17:13I think I'd still be
01:17:14in the same spot.
01:17:16They would still think
01:17:17that we had had an affair.
01:17:19They would still think
01:17:20that, you know,
01:17:22I conspired.
01:17:24They would,
01:17:25they grabbed a hold of me
01:17:27and didn't let go.
01:17:31Becky was loving.
01:17:32Becky was love.
01:17:34You know?
01:17:35Becky's not evil.
01:17:37Becky's not a monster.
01:17:38Becky's not all these things
01:17:40everybody thinks she is.
01:17:42Do you talk to her?
01:17:43No.
01:17:44I mean,
01:17:44I wrote her a letter
01:17:45and I told her that
01:17:47if it was true
01:17:49that I forgave her
01:17:50and that if it wasn't true
01:17:51that I was sorry
01:17:52this was all happening.
01:17:58This is still
01:17:59very hard to take.
01:18:01I mean,
01:18:01all of this.
01:18:02This.
01:18:08To realize
01:18:09that this is my life.
01:18:12Rob was a sweetheart.
01:18:13He was a good person
01:18:15to everybody.
01:18:20He became my best friend.
01:18:25And
01:18:30I miss him every day.
01:18:43At the Evansville Fire Department,
01:18:45their newest fire truck then,
01:18:46they dedicated that
01:18:47in honor of Robbie.
01:18:51He has a fire engine
01:18:52that will
01:18:53do what he used to do,
01:18:55roll up to the scenes now
01:18:57and protect people
01:18:58and save people's lives.
01:19:02Dad can finally rest.
01:19:05He deserved
01:19:06more than what he got.
01:19:08He deserved
01:19:09not for that to happen.
01:19:15I'll never be able
01:19:16to call him.
01:19:17I'll never get
01:19:18to hear his voice.
01:19:19What is that?
01:19:23I'll never get
01:19:24to hug him again.
01:19:28He should still be here
01:19:32with mine
01:19:33and Lindsay's kids
01:19:34to be a grandparent
01:19:36to these children
01:19:37and
01:19:40they're missing out.
01:19:43We're missing out.
01:19:48It's now yours.
01:19:50I know.
01:19:51It's big.
01:19:58A family still remembering
01:20:00and we should point out
01:20:01that Robbie's wife, Becky,
01:20:02had her appeal denied.
01:20:03Her relationship
01:20:04with son Nathaniel
01:20:05remained strained.
01:20:06He tells us he will
01:20:06never visit her in prison.
01:20:08Meanwhile, David,
01:20:09convicted gunman
01:20:10Larry Richman Sr.
01:20:12declined our interview request
01:20:13but tells us
01:20:14he will appeal
01:20:15his conviction.
01:20:17That's our program
01:20:18for tonight.
01:20:18Thanks for watching.
01:20:19I'm Deborah Roberts.
01:20:20And I'm David Muir
01:20:21from all of us here
01:20:22at 2020 and ABC News.
01:20:24Good night.
01:20:52I'll be right back.
