00:00The European Union increased Russian liquefied natural gas imports during the first quarters
00:05of 2026, driven by energy infrastructure damage taken from the conflict in the Middle
00:09East.
00:10In this regard, the firm Kepler stated that imports grew by 17% to reach 5 million tons,
00:15with an estimated cost of nearly 3 billion euros.
00:18Specifically, this increase is attributed to the purchase of Russian liquefied gas sourced
00:22from the Yamal Arctic project.
00:24Meanwhile, this trend coincides with global supply disruptions caused by the conflict
00:28in the Middle East, which impacts key energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
00:40And tensions in the Middle East expose Europe's energy vulnerability.
00:44The suspension of gas shipments from its main supplier has placed the continent on high alert.
00:48Amidst this crisis affecting the entire world, Qatar, one of the main suppliers of gas up
00:52until now, has decided to suspend its production of liquefied natural gas due to the violence
00:56occurring in the Strait of Hormuz.
00:58This decision has put Europe on alert, as it relies on external suppliers such as Norway,
01:02the United States, and Qatar.
01:04Average gas prices on the European exchange rose 59% in March compared to February, exceeding
01:09$600 per cubic meter for the first time since January 2023.
