02:49holidays a weekend camping in wales is usually as good as it gets we're very outdoorsy people we
02:55like open fields in 11 years they've managed just one foreign getaway a bargain break to spain that

03:10it was just drinking by the pool remember when you push me in there and eating a lot of food

03:32enjoy the finer things in life but how do they feel about taking a trip with rich strangers i wouldn't
03:39want to learn about history or stuff like that i definitely would not heat sushi my nightmare holiday
03:46will be if the kids couldn't enjoy themselves because that's the sole purpose of going on a family

04:23doctors have made a mint with their own health and aesthetics clinic turnover well yeah we sometimes
04:29you make 80 grand a month on average 50. with a disposable income of two and a half thousand pounds

04:43regularly i have filler skin tightening it's costing me about a thousand a month because i have
04:48everything and it's not just about looking good on the outside as always cooking from scratch

05:04holidays have to be perfect too i don't ever look at anything below five star that was nice too

05:17year my favorite holiday is probably florida i think holidays are very important to improve yourself

06:13as it oh my god never did just somewhere to relax yeah i don't like relaxing the ancient capital of
06:23valena to experience luxury culture and history goosebumps already situated situated between
06:31italy and north africa malta is a small but mighty island year-round sunshine turquoise seas and historic
06:39ports have made it a luxury destination for discerning jet setters for both families and all expenses paid
06:47stay at the regal five-star fenicia hotel and spa a favorite of the late queen elizabeth oh that's
06:54exciting we've never been to malta i'm just giddy it's day one come on then get going
07:02the leafs are falling over themselves with excitement i want to know if we're going to have champagne
07:08a bellini on arrival a cheeky bellini but the alcohol-free docs are taking a different approach
07:16to holiday prep when you travel you're in an airplane where the pressure's less oxygen's less
07:22so before we go we'll do hyperbaric oxygen so oxygen in a chamber to get ourselves super perfused
07:28so when we travel again we arrive crisp and pristine okay
07:35it's a three and a half hour flight to malta and for the leaves their second ever family
07:41trip abroad the weather is amazing the families will meet for the first time at the five-star
07:48fenicia the leading hotels of the world are very much what i like there's a red carpet nowhere i'm not
07:58sure we belong here at all once they've checked into their one thousand pound a night luxury suites

08:15still a bit a bit overwhelmed the kids get to experience this don't they we could never give it

09:50so before we came we have oxygen chambers at our clinic and you perfuse your body with 500
09:57percent oxygen probably over a thousand pounds worth of treatments depends those pounds for air so
10:03that's a bit extreme i think i can walk outside and inhale and be free we come with a vibe

10:11being quite healthy on the trip and even go back healthier than when we came quite surprised that

12:42in how we do things they're motivated to try a different form of holiday so at home we do intermittent
12:48fasting so i don't usually eat till about two o'clock i'd be starving yeah we need the fuel first

13:01fast but andre can still steer them in a healthy direction they have this little centerpiece here

13:13this mushroom yeah it's not just an egg room when we saw the breakfast for all the bacon the sausage
13:21and the mushrooms found it quite difficult not to see the sadness in your eyes get loaded bacon the
13:30temptation is too much for noah and gary he's tried making the tiniest english breakfast ever yeah
13:37it's hard to resist i noticed um gary has a plate of meat i think on the last day if
13:45gary comes in
13:46and says he wants a kale smoothie and one for noah then we know we've probably cracked it
13:53it's not just the disants healthy regime the leafs will be sharing oh you're ripping it they're about to

14:22look it's wonderful to see the reaction because i suppose i wouldn't like to say we take it for
14:29granted but this is the kind of thing we would book it's a once in a lifetime kind of thing

14:35going to be incredible first on the itinerary a guided sightseeing tour of malta's historic capital
14:44the letter so welcome my name is clive cortis i'm going to be your private guide for today we usually
14:52do hi the tour guide just so we don't miss the important points of the place but at 155 pound
14:59it's more than the leaf's weekly food shop one letter mainly it was built in the 16th century
15:05yeah by the famous knights of saint john the city's historic architecture has earned it unesco world heritage
15:13site status the walls have changed over time still holes forming fascinating stuff for culture
15:20vulture andre when are we going to the pool not so fascinating for eight-year-old noah so here we
15:27are baraka gardens and all the fortifications that we're seeing now just in front of us today it is
15:33used by both gladiator films we thoroughly enjoyed it incredible scenery i'm getting a bit bored
15:40and then we have noah who was viewing on the hallway road just on my left hand side is saint

15:48cold cathedral i don't like the history he's bored he's bored yeah yeah he's bored it's not a holiday
15:56adult for children i hope we enjoyed this short tour of the city it's worth applause but will it be

16:04for money 155 pounds for the tour yeah yeah it's money well spent in my book not 155 pounds worth

16:45noah he can't wait beth and gary aren't used to such posh surroundings but the kids are taking to the
16:52luxury like ducks to water that was one of my favorite parts of the day i see noah and grace
16:59splashing the pool that's what i think kids should be doing on holiday while the dads are on pool duty
17:05the mums can kick back and relax this is nice isn't it just having a chill do you get much
17:11chance to do this at home not really no it's pretty full on life life's busy obviously i had grace

17:17i was 17. how did you find that um it was difficult i didn't have much support i very much

17:22myself so it was i devoted my life to her and and then noah every last thing we're doing is

17:29the kids we don't have time together we don't have time alone hopefully on this holiday you can
17:34get some treats some time on your own i would love that yeah yeah and i know i need the
17:38time
17:39i know i need to look after myself because if you don't look after yourself you can't look after
17:42everyone else for time and oh for my third year we planned a trip to milan and gary snapped his
17:52achilles and then we had to not go on the trip so we never made it just because i had
17:57to carry on
17:58putting a roof over the head and feeding them paying the bills it's a lot it was something
18:03special for you wasn't it yeah it was obviously you missed out on that that's okay we're here now
18:07well yes we're here now it was lovely to have a chat with beth she's a mother from first and
18:13foremost and always puts her children first sometimes she just needs to have a bit of time
18:17to herself and she deserves that lovely conversation to have with her just as mums
18:22putting those to rights and sharing the insights with me i've thoroughly enjoyed next on the healthy
18:30holiday agenda some me time for the parents while the kids are in child care for fitness freak andre that
18:37means one thing it's been a long time since i've been near a gym it's a luxury gary can't stretch
18:48to
18:49but andre spends 400 pounds a month on a pt and that money can pay for our monthly food shop
18:56so
18:56it feels like it's a necessary luxury it's crucial for healthy body healthy mind and it's not andre's
19:02only spending necessity anti-wrinkle treatments best facial skin care skin tightening treatments
19:09this can mount up to you know 10 000 pounds of work a year easily well 10 000 pound is
19:15a massive
19:16thing you know that's third amount annual wage it's a non-negotiable he looks well for 55 so i'm not
19:23seeing his forehead move meanwhile for 170 pounds the mums are getting made up for a posh double dinner date
19:32later what do you usually spend on on getting your makeup done it's usually it's about 100 pounds
19:37what are you going to yeah sure what was it like today having some new time feels selfish and i

19:44guilty when you put the children first but you're just as important i'm going to try and take that
19:49from this experience and yeah look after myself a little bit more yeah definitely yeah okay wow well i
19:58might take up having my makeup done on a regular basis because that was incredible yeah i love it

21:05when you'd ordered they sounded horrified first up 25 pound fresh oysters a food that's never touched

23:41tripping distance it's all in a day's luxury holiday to us it's a boat it's a nice boat it's wonderful

23:47we've done this quite a few times but it's really interesting seeing people do it for the first time
23:51to them it is like magic destination blue lagoon

24:02the leafs jump feet first into the experience

24:10we found it a little bit too cold uh we like it a little bit warmer than this
24:16more used to the maldives the disants have decided to sit this one out
24:21but for the leaves it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
24:24i loved how excited the leafs were just seeing them squeeze every bit of fun out of that day
24:34maybe a tin jealous about how much fun they were having maybe we've become um a bit complacent like
24:40well we'll we'll come back another time and do and so maybe that's what we've got to work on maybe
24:43get back to what makes us excited seeing fish in like clear waters you don't get that in the uk
24:49do you it's the best i've ever with every penny yes the memories and the experience to see the
24:56ride itself miles on the kids faces and i enjoyed it more than the kids yeah it's fantastic
25:04back on dry land and before the sun sets on the booze-free healthy holiday there's time for a

25:55been totally one way we've also observed things that maybe we've been missing out on on holidays

26:08things for granted and we may just think you know we should appreciate these things more we really should

27:10rural lancashire a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts with rolling fields
27:15sheep and low-cost farmyard camping both families will stay in a three by three meter
27:21off-grid pod and share a compostable loo for two the word camping was like ice down my neck when

27:29saw it when cassie was one uh we we did um we had a camper van it's a two-week
27:35holiday that we'd set
27:36out and rnj lasted five days he had a bit of a breakdown and was trying to order flights to
27:41dubai
27:43and we're in trouble we might go loco it's going faster
27:51coming up the distance are slumming it 156 pounds and that is so tight
28:00and it's no walk in the park it's not what i choose to do on my holiday
28:12a hard-up fun-loving family
28:17have been on a high-class healthy holiday i just had an oyster
28:23now it's their turn to show their five-star loving companions
28:28you're heading to rural lancashire how to holiday on a budget
28:33i might go loco it's quite possible it's the second half of the holiday experience
28:40and the families are back in the uk in beautiful rural lancashire it's gonna get wet
28:47i mean brought one pair of jeans a bit and a 400 pound pair of jeans
28:51for the budget side of the holiday the distance will be doing it the leaf's way
28:57wow look at them they look cool they do look cool weekend campers the leafs are on
29:03home turf look at the views there's a pod oh my god there's a sign house for sewage
29:12but for the distance it couldn't be further from a five-star spa hotel
29:17nothing here is it but a sheep hello everyone travelers adventurers i'm jack welcome on a little
29:26middle farm we have three pots in the field and so is one of them the spa pod
29:34andre might find the accommodation comes up short the pods are a snug three by three meters
29:42oh it's cozy it's smaller than some of the bathrooms we've been in
29:46in the hotels we've stayed at some of the showers in the bath i've never been on a holiday where
29:51i could
29:51touch all four walls at the same time it's better basics are you gonna be able to do it i
29:58don't know
30:01while sam and andre are already contemplating throwing in the towel the leafs are enjoying
30:07some good old-fashioned free fun we like nature open space just join in with the kids here you can
30:14just be yourself from wild and free there's no running for the distance without their usual bell
30:20hop they're struggling with their luggage good job andre's been down the gym there's no holiday feel
30:26yeah so it's just endurance it's like a test of your endurance isn't it uh what's the himalayas base camp
30:31don't feel to it at the moment there's no space yeah i feel like i want a geography field trip
30:40hysteria is already setting in and that's before sam and andre find out what each family has to spend
30:46for the next few days guys this is for your food and for your activities yeah yeah you can't matter
30:53okay we've been the plow away 60 80 100 120 140 150 each family has a budget of 156 pounds
31:05just one of your activities was that much it was yeah and that is so tight that is
31:12i said before we'd spend that much money just from getting to the airport to the hotel
31:18i know you're gonna see what you can actually get with it yeah absolutely absolutely the value of money
31:25it's a balmy six degree morning at little mid-op farm can't be this cold every morning
31:32for the jet setting distance it's a rude awakening to uk budget holidays we're cold we're uncomfortable
31:38can't move around the pod we're stuck in a field in the middle of nowhere there's no electricity and
31:44there's there's no bathroom the ensuite bathroom on this break sam and andre will have to make do with a
31:51communal shower i've never walked this far for a shower i want to have a shower um but i don't
31:57because it's too cold but i can't wash my hair because it's such a walk to the shower and i've
32:02got no hair dryer because most five well all five star hotels have hair dries so i didn't pack one
32:10okay i don't want to take one closer for sam showering is a no-go what were you doing
32:23the shower is a washout maybe andre will do better with the communal kitchen have we found a toaster
32:30no uh so we might have to improvise having blown 60 quid on a budget shop gary and andre are
32:38on
32:38breakfast duty when it comes to a holiday i like to be catered for uh i don't want to do
32:44the cooking
32:45myself it's not quite the five star that they're used to it's not the egg room i'm not sure i
32:51got
32:51that toast it's not a glowing review from beth i'm not hungry actually while sam resorts to fasting
32:58but at least the kids are getting stuck in it's cheap and cheerful just like the leaf's usual holiday
33:05activities which the disants will also be taking part in holiday activities volunteering with the
33:11local apaca that sounds like it might involve shovels of some kind to see marshmallows on the
33:18campfire paddleboarding i don't know my idea of fun it's my view of sort of holiday hell i think doing
33:28that that type of thing so this is the things we do just keep uh things simple keep it fun
33:33for the kids
33:34and it's relatively cheap as well i hope it makes them realize that they are so fortunate
33:39first up a trip to the alpaca farm guys what sandwiches do you want but on their budget weekends
33:46the leafs never leave camp without a packed lunch i'm not sure that sam and andre go on many days
33:51out where they'd need to pack a pack lunch this will be an experience for them for sure volunteering
33:58on a farm will also be a novelty the closest the distance usually get to animals on holiday
34:03is a big book safari now the first job is feed the lambs that you've just seen
34:12volunteering with allison at wood end farm is a spend-free day
34:20how old is he he's really into it the kids are in holiday heaven this is the best thing i've
34:27ever
34:27done how cute you do and the adults aren't far behind there we go there we go oh this is
34:35absolutely
34:35okay i'm crying because it's so cute i must say it's good for the heart yeah i feel like i
34:42get a
34:43lot more from this experience than any five-star resort
34:52but the next job isn't so cute and cuddly the alpacas need mucking out well done guys you're doing
34:58incredible and while the leafs get stuck in sam and andre are hanging back
35:05it's not what i choose to do on my holiday yeah yeah is it quite clean yes it is it

35:13the cleaner corner where the little white coats weren't going to get too dirty it's work i just don't
35:19get up in the morning and think oh i love to go out today and shovel whatever at least cassia

35:32hard anyway i don't need to do that when i'm holiday okay teddy i really did enjoy the alpacas to

35:44that was most fun i've ever had wholesome family fun our goal is to show that you don't need five
35:50style luxuries to enjoy your holiday so today has been a success big kick from us
35:59but will beth's packed lunch get a thumbs up

36:54and that is so tight to see if money really does buy holiday happiness my room sort of holiday hell
37:03it's a chilly morning in lancashire okay let's go and both families are geared up for a day on the
37:10water paddle boarding so that's 12 pound per person so that'd be 84 pounds please that's actually very
37:18very reasonable value it's cheap and cheerful family fun and the leafs don't hesitate to hit the water
37:30i'm not getting in that but sam and cassia are more used to tropical temperatures than cold lancashire
37:37lakes it just looked crazy it was freezing cold blowing a gale it just didn't look like fun to me
37:44so i think cassia did a like getting stuck in like we know we do because no hair dryer she
37:51used to
37:52past our resorts that have a hair dryer in it and she didn't pack one

38:16it felt right to give everything i had because the leaf family was certainly giving it everything
38:23they were not going to waste a single second of this despite the rough conditions at 85 pounds it's
38:30the big ticket activity of the budget break so was it worth it it was more on the arduous side

38:36so this activity was a quarter of the meal that we had in malta and i get to remember watching

38:43falling the lake for the rest of my life back at the campsite there's more no frills fun in store
38:53campfire marshmallows is that good enough yeah just a tenner for wood and a few quid for marshmallows a
39:01holiday night out doesn't get much cheaper it's not michelin star it's not fine dining but standing
39:07around a campfire and stuff in your face it's what life is all about i did enjoy that that was

39:14they're not the healthiest things it's like sort of eating plastic i shouldn't be giving it my
39:18mission star dining anytime soon i have really enjoyed this holiday my mom and dad keep saying
39:24to me oh you're coping so well you're coping so well but i'm just enjoying it to be honest
39:31it's the final morning of the holiday
39:37and it's checkout time so am i looking forward to going home very much so bye pod but before they
39:46leave
39:46there's the small matter of the cost of their budget break it was total bill for your holidays

40:01i'm shocked that it's quite that as low as that but then you know there's no luxury involved
40:06we get 15 of our holidays for their holiday it's 15 000 pounds less than the malta break
40:15that 50 000 pound would do so much for us go to our house deposit so being on your holiday

40:23things for us was the first or the snorkeling was the first the yacht ride and yeah a lot of
40:29them
40:29things are things that we couldn't perhaps offer the children and maybe ever again but we're happy at
40:39the end of our holidays and you'll have the end of your holidays so we did kind of want to
40:43prove that
40:43money doesn't equal happiness i probably would pick martin over this yeah my perspective on budget
40:51holidays hasn't really changed i'm an ensuite girl i do like to have fun sweet i've been away from this
40:57sort of simple phone maybe for too long and it doesn't really doesn't really float my boat anymore
41:03i think i have been perhaps irrevocably changed by a five-star treatment i have enjoyed this holiday
41:10the same way that i've enjoyed malta i think i've learned that even on the simplest of holidays we
41:15can still have as much fun as we can on the most expensive holidays because we have each other
41:26so this is goodbye now i guess we're leaving going home it's quite sad really i do feel really happy

43:07definitely accept that as a gift that's a lot that's a lot
43:15but i'm so excited so excited we're going to great yeah you're going to great
43:24for now it's back to baltom home sweet home and cheshire and a chance for both families to reflect on
43:33the holiday i'm not going to change my holidays anytime soon i prefer the five star all the way i'm
43:39just too far down the road of five star to go back in time and do the the simple holidays
43:45we really
43:46enjoyed it yeah and we definitely go to the sun on a budget yeah the memories we've made were
43:52fantastic the distance taught us a lot of valuable life lessons we need to spend more time with each
43:58other and we need to spend more time with ourselves does money buy you a happier holiday and not
44:04necessarily i think um it's the people that you're with that make your holiday special it was lovely
44:10being with the other family they made it fun it's definitely taught us not to judge people as well
44:15yes our perception on rich people was that they are snobs and and they're not they're just humans with a
44:22lot
44:23more money next time oh my god go on slam it with us cannot believe i'm doing this
44:33wow look at this this is the most beautiful palace in bernie boring just horrendous that's five months
44:41worth of wages for me for this summer
