00:01I am Dr. D. Chandrasekar Reddy, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Yashwada Hospital, Somaji
00:06Guda, Hyderabad. Today I will be speaking on detox myths versus medical science in the
00:12management of fatty liver disease and why big fixes don't work for fatty liver. So some
00:19people they think that detox diets and cliations are very useful in the management of fatty
00:24liver disease but this is not true this forms only part of the treatment. So we should not depend
00:30completely on these type of treatments and some vegetables and fruits are very useful in the
00:36management of fatty liver disease. These are green leafy vegetables and cruciferous vegetables like
00:43cabbage and broccoli and other things that are very useful in the management are nuts and
00:51healthy oils like olive oil, lean meat, whole grains and berries. These are also very useful in the
00:58management of fatty liver disease and we should not completely depend on the juices or other
01:03supplements in the management of chronic fatty liver disease and we should not depend on the
01:09quick fix therapy for the fatty liver disease because if you depend too much on this type of
01:15treatment we may neglect the negative treatment and can lead to long term complications. Fatty liver is mainly
01:24caused by some of the risk factors. These risk factors are obesity that is excess weight and
01:32uncontrolled diabetes, high cholesterol and excessive intake of alcohol and some drugs can cause fatty liver
01:40disease. And in all these diseases lifestyle changes are more effective than short-term detox plans. So we should
01:48depend more on lifestyle changes than short-term detox plans. And some people they think that some supplements
01:55or alternatives are very useful and some people they claim that within one week they will cure the fatty liver
02:03disease.
02:03These are very false claims we should not we cannot cure fatty liver disease within one week and it is
02:10a long-term disease and it needs long-term treatment.
02:13And if you find fatty liver disease in a patient we have to evaluate that patient we have to first
02:20we have
02:20to do the some blood test like complete blood pressure liver function test and some amazing methods like ultrasound
02:27abdomen and fibroscan then we can with these methods we can know the state of the fatty liver disease and
02:33that based on the stage we can
02:35give the treatment. Some newer methods and treatments are available for the management of fatty liver disease.
02:43New drugs like resmitarone and semaglutide these are very useful in the management of fatty liver disease
02:50diseases along with the medicines and lifestyle changes like reducing weight, controlling of diabetes, controlling of
02:58diet and taking of less fatty diet, less calorie diet. So these are all very useful in the management of
03:07fatty liver disease rather than depending on the short-term fixes it is better to go for the long-term
03:15treatment and maintaining the long-term healthy life is very important in the management of fatty liver disease. Thank you.
