00:51and they're not afraid to get stuck in on any property that we find.

02:01well, our current house that we built, nothing else we can do to it.
02:05We think this is as good as it's going to get for us.

02:12Our non-negotiables are having space for our children because we actually don't want them to leave.
02:19Having space to maybe venture into other business aspects.
02:23I think offering a potential wedding venue is something that we could really get into.
02:30And just future proofing a little bit.
02:32This just gives us a different goal for the next sort of 10 years.
02:36Having some architectural drama in the house, that's what I'm after.
02:40Something that's been thoughtfully designed.
02:42Ultimately something on a bit of land that we can mature into a bit more.
02:46Budget wise, probably sitting around that 1.5 mark as a benchmark would probably be where we want to start
02:52from.
02:53We moved here 13 years ago now.
02:55We like it because it's not urbanised.
02:58It's out in the country a little bit, but yet so close to get to anywhere.
03:08The town of West Melton is located just a short drive west of Christchurch in the Selwyn district of Canterbury.
03:16Known for its rolling farmland, this hidden gem really is the perfect spot for a lifestyle property.
03:23With the convenience of the city nearby and its family friendly atmosphere,
03:28I can totally see why Marcella and Jessie love it here.
03:36The first house. It's an interesting property this one.
03:39Ten acres, a huge section.
03:41You would have seen as you drove up that beautiful driveway.
03:43Already I was kind of thinking wedding guests arriving, you're seeing the lake to the left.

03:50The house itself has just been renovated so you'll be the first people into it since they've spruced it up.
03:55They've actually done a great job, they've renovated the garage into an extra bedroom.

17:34I managed to fit in a visit to Glen Lothian Farm, where I got to meet some amazing animals.
17:39I caught up with Glenda and Mike to hear more about their farm.

17:49Tell me, how long have you been operating here?
17:51We've been on the property for about 11 years, but operating about five.
17:54Tell me how it all came about.
17:56I know that you used to live on the Highland Farms when you were young.
17:58Yes.
17:59Just a love of animals, and I suppose I like unusual things.
18:03So, the weirder the better.
18:05Now, tell me a little bit about Scruffy.
18:07Speaking of weird, this is one of the rarest three.
18:09So, these three guys are the rarest goats in the world.
18:13They're Waipu goats, which the Angora originated from.
18:15Early 2000s, we were down to five.
18:18That's rare.
18:18I mean, that's as rare as it gets.
18:19Yes, yes, yes.
18:20They're not the only rare animals on the farm.
18:21Tell me a little bit about what else you can see.
18:23So, I'm in the Rare Breed Society, which is trying to highlight and save a lot of the heritage breeds,
18:28which were brought to New Zealand.
18:30So, we've got Enderby Island rabbits.
18:32We've got pests.
18:33We've got wallabies.
18:34Cute pests.

18:35I like that.

18:37And we've got Himalayan tar, which as far as we know, no one else has got tame ones that you
18:42can hand feed.

18:45People must love coming and getting up close and personal. Kids especially must absolutely love Glen Lothian farm.
18:51Schools, playgroups, retirement groups.

18:54All sorts of groups come.
18:55Parents actually have more fun, I think, than the kids.
18:57They bring the kids here for the birthday party and get the barbecue cranked up and have a great time.

19:05Obviously, it's close to everything.
19:07You've got the nature on your doorstep.
19:09No, it's accessible to everything, but you're away from the crowds.
19:13Lifestyle Blocks have had a really good uplift, multi-generational living on Lifestyle Blocks.
19:18A lot of families moving to West Melton, to Selwyn District in general.

19:24Because, you know, value-wise, we're probably the best value for money residential and lifestyle anywhere in New Zealand.
