00:32This exhibition explores the Queen's fashion archive, covering every decade of her life, from birth until the end of her
00:40life, ending with the Platinum Jubilee outfit, worn for her last balcony appearance here at Buckingham Palace.
00:47It represents all couturiers, designers and suppliers who worked with her very closely over many, many years.
00:55The standout and highlight pieces in this exhibition include such masterpieces as Norman Hartnell's wedding dress, made for Princess Elizabeth
01:03in 1947,
01:04and also her coronation dress, of course, from 1953.
01:08But there are many other pieces which chart her life in fashion and her relationship with British fashion and British
01:15fashion design throughout her life.
01:18In thinking about the Queen's fashion legacy, I think it really amounts to two very important things.
01:24Firstly, throughout her life, she supported British fashion design on the global stage, and that's seen in so many pieces
01:30in this exhibition.
01:32But secondly, her unique style has really inspired many contemporary designers, both in the United Kingdom and abroad.
01:40And we hope that the importance of this archive will continue to be recognized and used as a source of
01:46inspiration for the designers of the future.
01:48The really special thing about this exhibition is being able to present such a comprehensive and rounded perspective on the
01:56Queen's relationship with fashion,
01:58from sketches, personal correspondence, archive items, as well as the beautiful clothing itself.
02:04What I really hope that visitors will take away is an understanding of how the Queen used fashion to fulfill
02:10her role,
02:11her intimate interest in the production of her clothing, and also how this collection can be a source of inspiration
02:18for designers, both in the past and in the future.
02:51As a conservator, I'm able to look inside the objects, have them inside out, look at the seams, look at
02:58all of it.
02:59But I've also, I can touch it, I can touch things and feel how soft they are.
03:04Some of these fabrics are beautiful, they're the finest quality, and that's a whole other sensory level of being able
03:11to touch as well.
03:13And there's the smell as well, sometimes we smell her powder and perfume, and that's such a beautiful experience.
03:20So being able to work so closely with these items that were hers and still embody her has been wonderful.
03:59There's a lot of different things that women and people, there was a lot of store, so with the
03:59students who spend their time and their time and their time and their time and their time and their time
03:59and their time and their time and they'll be fortunate.
