00:04on sale this week beautiful example of a GT junior more interest in this car over the last
00:14week or 10 days I would suggest that anything we've had this year a very impressive car in
00:20even more impressive condition we want to tell you the same there aren't many nice alphas around
00:26so yeah little Fiesta yeah XR2 Fiesta and it's the one that attracts the most attention mainly that
00:33it's absolutely mint which it is for its age especially it's really really good the Talbot
00:40Sunbeam Lotus out of all of them I know which one Jack would pick is the Sunbeam my first car
00:45believe it or not so fond memories of these the Matthewsons a dynasty of classic car auctioneers
00:5555 the joys of an auction most people will go to a sale with something in mind but come away
01:00with
01:00something different the fun is the chase we'll have a look and we'll advise you from there you
01:05just don't know what's on the end of the phone what you're gonna find when you open them doors
01:09this is a family's love affair with motors that have lived a life testing testing most people
01:15will buy a car because they can relate to it maybe a car that dad had you're selling dreams right
01:21here
01:30we go yeah wish someone wash up we got some cakes as well I have a bit of that in
01:35a minute anyway
01:37there you go so yeah ducking and diving and all the rest of it while some things never change change
01:45is
01:45afoot at the auction house you don't want to be Nancy and Jack's younger sister Amy has a thing or
01:53two to say about it I think he is excited obviously first time time dad so first time nerves it's
02:00meant to be a due date today but there's no signs of him coming just yet so we'll see first
02:06great
02:06grandchild and her granddad's really excited called a midwife I love the program but the actual subject of
02:13it you know with the jail birth and I can't look I can't imagine yeah no like night feeds or
02:23anything
02:23like that I don't think he'll do it I do marbles on here be absolutely bang on there's a bit
02:32of nerves
02:33floating about another keep pacing up and down the shed having a little boy so yeah I'm over the moon
02:38no
02:38signs yet I had to cancel me rally yesterday as well so I thought just in case knowing my luck
02:44I'd have to go to them in hospital in rally car wouldn't I all I've been doing is waiting in
02:48the
02:48corridor so I said if you need me ring me you've got better things to do haven't you I've got
02:52word to
02:52do I've got to get these cars out otherwise people will be moaning at me I've already bought the first
02:57Christmas present it is a mark 2 Escort rally car with a Honda engine in the back for little kids
03:03mint in it baby's not even born in it I know but I saw it and thought yeah got to
03:09I've ordered it in
03:10white same as ours so we've got to get all our decals on it the same now I've never changed
03:17enough in my
03:18life I'm like I had hope yeah I'll let you know I'll get on with that but I was hoping
03:26it'd just be
03:27before auction so and get me out of doing a bit of auctioneering but anyway it's just like a bit
03:31of a waiting game ready until she might just get a sneeze and he and he's there hopefully so now
03:40I'm
03:43looking forward to it because you do don't you towards the end I mean Meg's had enough Jack's on
03:47tender hooks so we're all like yes all right come on come on um but um it'll come when it's
03:55ready how's
03:56your job going to be as a dad I think you'd be fantastic yeah I do I always get a
04:05bit emotional
04:05with stuff like big feet mate hmm yeah with a baby on the way there's another junior arrival downstairs
04:21in the auction room an alpha GT junior that is I do love these cars I really really do people
04:29are
04:29probably gathered by now other than Audi I'm not particularly a foreign car man up but these are
04:34exceptional I had a 1300 version of this and it just flew and it was a pleasure to drive absolute
04:41pleasure beautiful example of a GT junior oh man and exceptional condition inside and out little
04:51cigarette burn on the driver's seat shame in it but it happened the car comes from an era where
04:56everybody smoked it's been painted down the side here they are original reasonably dull new paintwork
05:04but bright as a button so that's a giveaway for a star but I'm not knocking the car in general
05:10the car
05:10is fantastic most of these have been rebuilt twice since they were made this clearly hasn't is clearly an
05:17absolutely fantastic genuine largely original car but every car picks up a bit of paintwork you can't
05:22enough about it you know it's a fact of life in it steering wheel mint dashboard gorgeous absolutely
05:28lovely yeah you see yourself flying around the Amalfi coast oh yeah very impressive car in even more
05:34impressive condition because of what it is simple as that everyone will tell you the same there aren't
05:41many nice alphas around let's look how genuine and honest this is here look beautiful not been brushed
05:46in and messed about all the rest of it is just absolutely gorgeous lovely super better kit
05:56designed by Gio Giara when he was just 19 as a young man's car this little Italian number is as
06:03shapely
06:04as Sophia Loren the junior bit was a clever bit of alpha marketing the 1300 GT junior was one of
06:11the
06:11very first youth market cars cheap to insure and tax in Italy the company carved up the market so drivers
06:18under 25 could afford to run an alpha in 1972 alpha gave it a bit more oomph with the 1600
06:26GT junior
06:27the same batoni style but a more powerful twin cam it was introduced to sit between the 1300 junior
06:35and the larger engine 2000 GT V a great-looking car then that still turns heads now
06:46what is the market our massive market big following for 60s and 70s alphas led largely
06:53I suppose by our enthusiasts but the fact that there aren't that many nice ones around just
06:57gotta give what you gotta give you know 30 grand you know what's the point of buying a rotten one
07:02at 15
07:02and spending 10 on it and it's still not as good as that you might as well give the 30
07:06grand that's the
07:07way you gotta look on it if you want the top one you gotta give top money
07:15oh these these are cracking ramps these are just let her out a bit Jack amidst all the arrivals Jack's
07:26still
07:27patiently waiting for his special delivery
07:36now the other way round while Paul's dealing with an unwanted passenger hiding in a classic
07:43come on Jackie yeah whoa she's not a bad old rig that you know we've just had to put some
07:49new rubber
07:49pipes on because a little Mickey our resident rodent decided it was going to help itself to all the fuel
07:54pipes under there so we've just done them so it would start a move and didn't we diesel everywhere
08:00you know we think another planet really very green it is an issue nowadays in it and to be fair
08:05Charlie's
08:06signed up now for this carbon positive thing this carbon neutral thing so every mile we do in a rally
08:11car costs us ever so much it's not a lot like they plant a tree for every however many units
08:18we use
08:18so positive move isn't it isn't it yeah so we're on that job to try and offset our carbon footprint
08:24a
08:25little more you're not buying one of these with carbon someone are you no you're buying one of these because
08:29they're iconic that is Great Britain isn't it there it is there it's cool isn't it so Jack's talking
08:35himself into it look look I know yeah I do yeah right you don't see him do you find another
08:43two-door
08:44Range Rover that's running and driving and it's got that better engine in it my opinion and don't
08:51forget our little mate who's camped up under the dash there look I reckon that's his little bed in
08:55there look your good nanites in there look poor little lad poor little boy probably got headache now
08:59with all your revving brilliant in it that one's oil in that
09:23still a bit surreal I think in it I don't think I've still quite got my head around it really
09:26yeah but no really good like his mint it's another day at the family dynasty and Jack's partner Meg has
09:33popped him for a visit with baby Max we are lucky we've got lots of people out we we are
09:39we've been
09:39very lucky I'm just adjusting to having a mini Jack with me 24 7 shall we say at least he
09:47goes to work
09:47him I'm stuck with so it's tricky I give him a bottle before we go to bed I don't know
09:56you do it I suppose
09:57you're used to your night shifts being a nurse and all the rest of it aren't you and your sleep
10:01pattern so
10:01you're still messed up but if I wake up it takes me ages to get back to sleep you see
10:06where Meg can
10:07literally handle it the pillow and that'll be it though his head's coming out of floating out the
10:11window but no you're doing really well best you aren't you I think as mums you just do it don't
10:16you it's just innate and I quite like it in the middle of the night because we get little cuddles
10:19and
10:21get to know him a bit more you get a full night's kit oh yeah coming to work and you
10:26do help when you
10:26come back from work as it turns out Jack has other untapped potential is this Jack giving Meg
10:33parenting tips he was giving you a false sense of hope at the start burping straight away sleeping
10:44not crying I thought we've cracked it three weeks on and that this is it just wait until he's 17
10:54he's a bit tired now I've been cleaning cars few emails today aren't you this morning but driving
11:02test is next week it'll be out in the lorry collecting in no time at all and a bit of
11:08auctioneering hey you've got it all to come lad that's you in it yeah in your racing days yeah
11:30that was yeah yeah yeah what did you say about yourself handsome looking chap on there didn't
11:36yeah no I wouldn't be like that Des Newell is well known around these parts among the motoring
11:43clubs but the photo album is closing on his lifetime love of motorsport and stock car racing
11:52he's very much a petrol head he's ever since I was born he's been tinkering with cars by back from
11:58his
11:58racing days and from 1978 I always remember going to race meetings going to Yarmouth on a Thursday night
12:05as well tend to be asleep on the backseat so I'll get carried up to bed because I knew I
12:08had school
12:09the next morning Desa's wife Marion son Terry and daughter-in-law Eloise are along for this final ride
12:19unfortunately dad's developing dementia which means that you can't drive anymore so as a family we
12:25decided that we need to sell the cars and let them be loved again two of the cars are at
12:32me dad's house
12:32the Lotus Sunbeam and the Ford 100e the Fiesta is at the lock-up garage and the RS Focus is
12:39at me
12:40wife's horse yard quite a collection we have car mad family petrol heads we are first up the cars at
12:46Desa Marion's house it's a 1958 Ford 100e and it's fitted with a two litre Pinto engine running on three
12:55litre
12:55Capri running gear it's a sheep in wolf's clothing because if you're at a junction and a car is pulling
13:02out they'll think oh that's an old car that will be going slowly but you're not going slowly because it's
13:09got a two litre Pinto in it
13:11we bought it off a friend of ours who built it in 1999 that was the first classic car that
13:20we'd bought so
13:21that's quite an exciting day over a decade later Des purchased the 1982 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus it was
13:32something that Des had always wanted not many about so we thought we'd treat ourselves I think it's
13:40probably because it's a Lotus it's real drive and they've got a lot of power well it's a hot hatch
13:45isn't it that's what the appeal is the Sunbeams are used a lot on the oval racing down the drag
13:54stowed
13:55safely in a storage unit Terry and wife Eloise unveil a little showstopper to be honest it is my
14:02favorite one out of all of his cars and it's the one that attracts the most attention mainly that it's
14:07absolutely mint which it is for its age especially it's really really good head flock around you as
14:14soon as we pull out a car show they flock like this I completely ignore my car next to them
14:19but always
14:20a good day out providing the weather was good and the final car in the stable boasting a lot of
14:27horsepower
14:27is a 2003 Ford Focus RS compared to the Fiesta this has got a lot more power that's got more
14:36sportier
14:37feel to it more torque steer but out of the two I do prefer the Fiesta is that love of
14:43those sporty
14:44cars do you think that's passed on to Terry yeah it has yeah because if we get a car it
14:49can't be a
14:49basic car either has to be something with some numbers or letters on the end of it yeah they're
14:56only worth what someone's prepared to pay for at the end of the day aren't they it's going to be
15:00interesting to see what they do actually go in an auction it's browsing time which turns out to be
15:13more fun for the regular crew than pushing stalled cars I sold they buying it I'd love it I really
15:26would yes Mick's gonna sell it to me yeah you'll buy it for me and one in particular he's getting
15:36a lot
15:36of Amore come here to look at a couple of escorts and this Alfa Romeo what is it about the
15:43Alfa Romeo
15:43that you like I like the look of it I like the style and the engine makes a distinctive noise
15:49and
15:49they're quite powerful as well I'm looking for something old I've had my eye on one of these I was
15:53at a show and saw quite a few so on my day off I pop down double look next up
16:02the 1977 Alfa Romeo GT
16:04Junior more interest in this car over the last week or 10 days I would suggest that anything we've
16:12had this year partly because of the super sensible guy partly because it's a lovely car we have got
16:21everybody in the hall here on phones today shall we do 10 11 12 13 14 15 16,500 they
16:32are let's sort
16:32of the men out so there so the rest of you might was a put your phone down 17,000
16:3717,500 18 on Andy's
16:39phone 19 we've got in Somerset 19 750 20,000 poundings 22 23 says Andy 23 Andy 23 250 Dave
16:5124 750 and
16:53we've got it 25 David's been 26,000 with David down here 27 750 28 28,000 pound and it
17:06is
17:07sold to David 28,000 now there you go well done the Alfa's off to Derek's old neck of the
17:14woods in
17:18Bedfordshire Paul's arrived in Ipswich first up the two cars at Des and Marion's home
17:25hello how are you how are you nice to meet you very well thank you how are we all good
17:30so we've
17:30come for these two then have we that's correct yes oh very good and neither have run for a little
17:35while no that's great yeah we've been starting it up all right but not recently what engines in this
17:40one then two litre Pinto oh it's easier Pinto is it we're like a good Pinto right well I'll get
17:47myself a battery pack and we'll see if they're going to start up and play ball eh well at least
17:51it's not raining I know I think we're going to be pushing it aren't we the carbs are empty on
18:01it
18:01so yeah well it's only a light little thing isn't it so Eloise it's quite obviously a big moment for
18:07you guys it is a bit isn't it yeah yeah yeah it's quite emotional I think oh dear what have
18:17you done
18:17you've broken it it's a typical lotus that's what it is yeah yes agreed hang on I'll put this on
18:25just
18:25give it a bit of help hang on yeah it doesn't want to go does it he's putting his parts
18:29on it wants to
18:31be a stay up it's not going to be a stay up he's coming yeah this way a little bit
18:47yeah yeah you're
18:50okay yeah perfect it's loaded several cars on trailers in me stock car days oh oh you're into
18:58that job yeah everyone down here was weren't they yeah you won't compete anymore no I'm 50 now you
19:05know it's that's a young man's game isn't it getting knocked about in the car I think it is in
19:09it
19:11this is a quirky little thing a little Pinto motor in it and they're just good fun so should cause
19:16good
19:16interest obviously not for the purest but to those of us that want something a bit different and want
19:22to get on a little bit they're ideal my old Anglia look they'll get stopped by the police that's the
19:27trouble they did stop you a few times didn't they we used to use a lot of petrol on your
19:32journeys
19:33didn't you I can't think why he obviously liked his sporty bits as such he's collected some quite
19:40tasty motors really only let's be fair 20 ish on the Lotus I suspect the little pops gonna be four
19:47or
19:47five and the other two we'll have a look at when we get there I didn't know how today was
19:54gonna go
19:54but it's gone very well actually nice to see you thank you and you good to see you well done
19:59thank
20:00you thank you very much hasn't happened before where we've lost all our cars in one go yeah
20:07onwards time to get the bus pass out
20:14next up the third wonder of Ipswich the storage units if it will start we'll drive it out yeah
20:22look at that ain't that lovely that's a nice clean one well there you go mate all right see what
20:28happens shall we yes only a click oh hang on here you are ah it's not off is it no
20:34I'm gonna say
20:41there you go now she'll start right I could get a job down here can I great little car absolutely
20:55brilliant most of them of course were bought by a certain character and they've lived a life
21:00haven't they that's the polite way of putting it how can I word it politically most of them smashed up
21:06yeah we can't really gloss that up can we 17 18 19 thousand quid isn't uncommon for a really good
21:13little fiesta it's just bam isn't it more than it was new ready to pick a focus up bull I
21:17am good lad
21:20many miles 83 are not killed with miles then no oh hey listen to that I like it
21:28obviously this one wants a bit of welding doesn't it not everyone's got top
21:34money perhaps a bit of recommissioning work doesn't it really other than that make a good cow on it
21:39seven or eight grand I think good right well my tack of grass ticking away so I'm gonna run yeah
21:44see you later bye safe journey home that's the fastest they've gone for a long time
22:07it's the start of another week
22:14and the troubleshooting never ends Paulier Ian Bridge has called in the big guns to help get this
22:21Piaggio going we've got Sutty who can build them we've got Charlie who can ride them and I'm on I'm
22:31observing hey I don't know what I'm doing go on there you've got it Charlie
22:41we're on fuel it's saying it's got a full tank and her moped's confusing us
22:56and in a karma pocket of the auction universe Dave's feasting his eyes on former stock car
23:02racer Des Newell's collection of fast cars so we've got the fiesta the focus the little anglia and the
23:09sunbeam up there the angle is the odd one out obviously doesn't take a lot of working out does
23:13it that my favorite's up that end but we'll come back to that in a minute so yeah little fiesta
23:17yeah xr2 fiesta 16,000 miles when you look around the car seat carpets foot pedals rubbers steering
23:26wheel gear knob door cards there's lots to suggest that the mileage could be right there's also a few
23:31things that I'm not quite comfortable with the fact that it's obviously had a coat of paint at some
23:37stage which yeah okay they pick up marks and bits and pieces but with 16,000 careful miles should it
23:45have had a coat of paint should it have needed a coat of paint I'm not so sure I suppose
23:49the giveaway is
23:49going to be underneath here that shouts 16,000 miles that certainly isn't a big mileage engine bay
23:58that all sits right it's just the fact that it's had a coat of paint and I can get it
24:03because obviously
24:04there weren't there weren't exactly rust proofed extremely well it's a great little car it's in
24:09nice order not a hundred percent convinced with the speedometer reading I don't know just something
24:13there the back can be a bit of a giveaway by that I mean that's got the right tire and
24:19it's still got
24:20the bobbles on another really good sign is which is always missing on a mileage car is the exhaust
24:27they've got like a heat reflecting shield on there which is like new this car makes you into a bit
24:34of a
24:34whirlwind really it you go from one extreme to the other you look at it and you think that's lovely
24:38then you think that doesn't quite stack up but then you think hang on a minute no you're like that
24:42you
24:42really are like that if you turned it upside down you could substantiate that mileage reading there's
24:47just one or two bits on the surface it just puts the element of doubt in your mind oh look
24:53I've got a
24:54cup of tea can I grab a cup of tea yeah whereas the focus is warts and all wouldn't it
24:58what you
24:59see is what you get it's not trying to be anything it's not 83 000 miles well that all rings
25:05true
25:05doesn't it straight away because it looks like it's an 83 000 miles you ready I haven't even seen inside
25:11here yet but I've heard what it's got in this is obviously why it sits in the stable with the
25:16others
25:17because they didn't produce them with a two litre pinto and if you're going to put anything in one of
25:22these I suppose a two litre pinto is ideal isn't it I mean nowadays you'd put a z-tech in
25:25good little
25:26conversion there I bet back in the day I bet this was that of a car out of all of
25:32them I know which
25:32one Jack would pick is the Sambi my first car believe it or not so fond memories of these they
25:38are a good car but I've never really thought of them as a great car there's a few on the
25:42rally scenes
25:42that look very much like that one there which is obviously a famous livery it's a works livery that
25:47one there parts are becoming really difficult for these now there's not a lot of remanufactured
25:52parts if any that's where the ford's come into it because you can pick the phone up and get anything
25:56you want for a mark one and mark two escort yeah there you go quite futuristic for its time really
26:02the twin cam lotus lump ford were producing what's in the little angular there the single overhead cam
26:08and then sunbeam came along and managed to graft one of these which is fairly good underneath though
26:13that's what I sell that car it's good underneath there four saleable cars some weeks back via email
26:20before I even saw them we were perhaps talking 20 I think I think we're just a little bit out
26:25on
26:26because my expectations were a little distorted is the fiesta so the focus will do up to 10 it won't
26:33do 10 but it'll do up to 10 a little angular probably do three and a half or the sunbeam
26:38will carry
26:39on and do 20. you can't be too fussy with a Talbot sunbeam because there's not a lot that come
26:44on the
26:44market so it's a little bit supply and demand with a sunbeam out of all of them that's the most
26:50salable one
26:552700 that it all done then 27 171 is a squib specific sign oh look at that oh that's a
27:03beauty
27:04back at auction day and while there's hot competition for the cutest award it seems there's

30:4015 1. sold at 15 1. thank
30:44you for your being at five grand over the estimate it's a double whammy for terry and eloisa's mate
30:49gabin who didn't want to let the motors out of his sight
30:55as for the others the talbot sunbeam lotus 25 3 and 4 and 5 25 25 5 it's gone at
31:0625 5 thank you very
31:07much 25 5 soars past his reserve for a new life in northern ireland and the 1959 pinto popular
31:16five thousand one hundred pounds five one roars over the finish line a lot better than we expected
31:24brilliantly yeah i'm really surprised at the focus because that had been sitting for a long time at
31:29a garage waiting to be repaired and waiting for mot and it hadn't got there so actually we thought it
31:35was kind of worth spares and repairs money but actually we're so chuffed it went for that price that it
31:41did
31:41it was absolutely brilliant and i think the fiesta and focus went to your friend gavin
31:47hasn't it yeah i know through the stocker race we're involved in yeah yeah it's nice to know that
31:51they're going to be back out and used and getting the attention that we've always got when we've been
31:55out with them haven't we yeah tick tick tick tick tick you know ideal so four out of four sold
32:00and sold well
32:19so
32:28while the warehouse crew deal with a runaway tractor terry and eloise's friend gabin taber is collecting
32:34his two forts we know the owners of the cars that's half the reason we've got them because we know
32:40the
32:40history of them we know who's owned them and we know they're going to be right so yeah it meant
32:44a
32:44bit more to us knowing where they've come from i knew um des had a fiesta that was meant to
32:48be very
32:49nice and low mileage i didn't know he had a focus rs which is what i was predominantly looking for
32:53for
32:53my collection so yeah terry said that they were both his and they were going i shot dad up here
32:58to
32:58come and have a good look around them for me one day and then uh had a bid i've looked
33:02at a lot of
33:03focuses and you're buying something that's honest genuine and right they're both going to be 20 miles
33:09from where they've spent most of their life
33:16it's auction day and the signs are clear are you looking for yourself are you just looking at
33:22what's there and so that you're informed when you're watching them oh got a little bit of an
33:27idea what i'm talking about you know not much idea like but a lot of signs yeah a lot of
33:32clocks and
33:33things they always sell well especially them raf ones every station adam of course and some are
33:38genuine some are repros a bit of a job but tell which is which to be perfect frankly but that
33:43ain't
33:43a repro it's a genuine bacon very nice these are all repros of course but still look nice on the
33:51wall
33:53and they're very expensive you know i've got a collection in our museum that cost a bloody fortune
33:59in their day or original fire and they don't look any different than that you know put
34:03them up there 10 of the price i would imagine it's show time and there's top competition for the top
34:09town spot the repro a round sign the tadcaster sign look repro reproduction but an older reproduction
34:19and a lovely looking bit of kip 200 pound and going are you all done 200 pounds sold the a
34:25road sign
34:25ashford sign there we go 600 for the first second third and last time sold well done
34:33after a long day of auctioneering someone's getting hungry a a round sandwich board sign

35:08first place at a whopping 600 pounds
35:151972 range rover now this is an early one very very sound motor there's someone renting some space in it
35:22did i hear something about we had a resident road yeah have you evicted him he's gone has he
35:28oh that's all right yeah here we go then range rover start your net five thousand five five two five

35:38thousand eight six thousand six thousand pounds six two four sixty four six nine six nine seven thousand
35:45pound you might as well send your money seven one there you go absolutely 72 73 74 75 76 77
35:54all done then
35:56third and last time 77 all done thank you so seven grand and 700 pound for the mouse buy the
36:04mouse and get
36:04a free range rover ah open the bonnet and there was a little mickey looking at me lovely little thing
36:10i'm
36:10not particularly keen on rodents and stuff you know but but you couldn't help but think oh it was a
36:16lovely little mouse i tried to catch it and it trundled off down the chassis leg and popped up in
36:23the
36:24bulkhead so yeah poor little mouse
36:31i am from italian descent my parents came over to england in the mid 50s i don't know if you
36:37know much
36:37about bedford and bedfordshire but we used to have the highest population of italian immigrants because
36:42they primarily come over for work so yes there is a big following for italian cars in bedford i'd say
36:48whether it be alfa fiat lancia maserati ferrari there's a few fanatics i'd say
36:57italian heritage runs deep in bedford angelo bosco couldn't be happier with the sequel to his
37:02alpha romeo gt even if it did cost a few more bobs second time round when i was in my
37:09early 20s i had
37:10one paid 100 pound but i couldn't really afford to have it restored at the time when i took it
37:15to the
37:16body shop it was quite expensive and they couldn't give me a definite price so i ended up selling it
37:21for 150 pound and really always missed one and i'd looked for years and years and it was just one
37:27monday evening i happened to go on the website and saw the alpha being on the wednesday i bid on
37:33it
37:33so i really bought it a little bit blind and unfortunately played probably more than double
37:37of the reserve restorer stephen grove is no stranger to the classic car game and for the last few months
37:44he's patiently bought angelo's alpha back to life and i think had a very keen eye when this came up
37:52for
37:52auction he was skeptical whether the mileage was as genuine or not it's 100 genuine as soon as i looked
37:59underneath i knew this 10 000 miles a seat will tell the story of a car the wear on the
38:04steering
38:05wheel the gear shifter the mats everything on this car is literally like you've just bought it from
38:10alfa romeo but 40 odd years ago it's incredible it's a 1600 twin cam alfa romeo engine everything here
38:19has been chemically cleaned and washed down the fuel and it could have been two decades old it's
38:24partially set inside the fuel tank and that took about a month of acid cleaning to get the fuel tank
38:30to come up clean again once that's in some fresh fuel a new battery and they should hopefully start
38:35first time and then ang gets a phone call and he comes to my unit and he'll be the first
38:41to drive it
38:41down the road so i'm excited to see his face i won't even look out the window i'll just be
38:45looking at
38:45the smile on his face although most parts remain original every detail has been painstakingly cleaned
38:52to knock 40 years off along with the paint job that angelo's seen for the first time today
38:59it's more than good this is definitely definitely super impressed me i just can't explain how excited
39:05i am it's brilliant it's just the shine on it and just the level of finish there's no orange peel
39:10it's
39:11just immaculate you know in the future somebody says how good was the restoration on this it's not
39:16been restored it's just been made to look perfect again and i think that that speaks volumes
39:22when it's all finished any idea not just gonna be worse it doesn't really matter to me it's worth
39:28millions in my heart now so it's not about monetary here it's about the passion and about bringing back
39:35some nice memories he's an italian man with a flair for italy and a flair for italian sports cars so
39:41he's bought something he used to own regretted selling so my impression is this one is going to be a
39:48keeper
39:56first time i saw one myself and a couple of mates were riding our bicycles up in the glory and
40:01one passed
40:02us on the road and the noise of it and the presence of it it really helped me you know
40:06as a teenager
40:08i was in the poster car which i had on the wall in my bedroom in northern ireland retired garage
40:15owner
40:16brian greaves has finally landed his dream car and he's the proud owner of the 1982 talbot sunbeam lotus
40:26i always admired them but could never afford them it was just the fact that lotus had taken a standard
40:32car and put a performance engine in it they were going up against ford's rs2000s and whatnot and it
40:38seemed to be an awful lot more powerful a lot quicker my first sunbeam was a 1600s i must have
40:44been
40:45about 18 maybe 19 and i painted it black and put a silver stripe on it and got the lotus
40:49wheels for it
40:50i couldn't afford the real thing but that was as close as i get there at the time now that
40:55he's
40:55landed the real thing he's getting it into shape but the car resprayed at the moment we're working
41:01on the interior i've got two new seats in the front but the back seats are going to have to
41:04give them
41:05those recovered to match the front seats these are the door cards that came on the car and they've been
41:10recovered at some stage that's like an alcantara effect but um i'm probably going to change this
41:17at some stage i haven't decided yet what i'm going to do with them but um maybe do something
41:22maybe a wee bit more original i just need a wee bit of homework on it but i decide what
41:27i'm going
41:27to do with it luckily enough there's very very little rot on it there's a bit of a history with
41:33the car and it seems that the car has been reshelled there has been welding done to it in the
41:37past
41:37but it was all fairly decent and usable my idea would have been a road going rally version
41:44so you'd have been looking at there you know the white arches the rally arches and the 15-inch wheels
41:49and these are the wheels that we got for it and we had to cut the old arches out make
41:54room for the
41:54bigger wheels that was personally what i wanted if the car had been original i wouldn't have messed
42:01with that i would have took it back to originality but because it wasn't original then we decided we'll
42:05go this way with it it's not a car i'm doing up to sell it's a car i'm doing up
42:08to keep for myself
42:09a wee mishap whenever we're taking the one screen out i know that they're very prone to cracking
42:13so i was very very careful taking it out but it it still cracked on me it cracked so easily
42:19i've been on to a few guys to see if i can source a one screen for it i've been
42:22told that i can
42:24but nobody has come forward with the one screen yet but i'm quite confident oh they'll get one
42:31the engine seems to be running fine now at the minute so i don't think we need to go any
42:34further
42:35with that whenever the car first came the battery was in here so i removed the bracket flat and put
42:40it back the way it was supposed to be strip and rebuild the carbs put new seals and floats in
42:45the
42:45carbs and put a new electric fuel pump on it and i have it starting on the button now
42:55it's basically the same engine that they notice having the spree
42:59are you gonna rally it no no i'm not i'm not gonna go to all this trouble and then wreck
43:03it
43:05i just want to pay homage to the rally cars i'd like this one to be seen
43:09i would like to pick up the shoes and whatnot we're going to go along plenty of time
43:32so
