00:01It is a great honor for me to be here with you all today and I deeply thank once again
00:09His Majesty King Hamad for this historic opportunity that the Gulf Cooperation Council is offering
00:18to Italy. Italy is a nation with an ancient heart, with a forward-looking attitude,
00:30capable of captivating the world with its identity and trying to play a leading role on the European
00:38and international stage. A nation bearing in its own DNA features such as dialogue, ability to confront
00:49with everyone and respect for its interlocutor. This is our tradition. It is what has always
00:57characterized us. It is the asset that has allowed the Italian civilization to get contaminated
01:05and enriched, yet never losing itself. It is a story lost in the midst of time. The Limes Arabicus,
01:17the border between the Roman Empire and the Arabian Peninsula, was not a rigid separation,
01:27but a space for transit, communication and trade, crossed by that spice route that united ancient Rome
01:37and India after crossing the Mediterranean. And Italy could never conceive of itself
01:45without the Mediterranean. The very heart of the world's political, cultural and commercial exchanges
01:52for millennia, and still today the shortest route of communication between the planet's two great maritime
02:01spaces, the Atlantic Ocean and the Indo-Pacific. A sea that occupies only one percent of the world's water, yet
02:12it is crossed
02:13by 20 percent of the world's maritime traffic, thanks to the Suez Canal connection.
02:21Thank you.
02:21Thank you.
02:21Grazie.
