00:07:06Why are you playing games?
00:07:08What's this all about?

00:07:40Oh, take it down
00:07:41Time Bluff, Arkansas
00:07:43Time Bluff, Arkansas

00:07:48Yeah
00:07:49I worked very hard to be here today
00:07:52I feel very proud
00:07:59Think about their church on Sundays
00:08:02That church must be rocking, boy
00:08:07Every day of your life
00:08:15She's going to represent us
00:08:18And y'all will love her
00:08:19Let's show her how much we love her
00:08:20And how much we support her
00:08:23We go to Hollywood
00:08:31You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors
00:08:34I think you're a racehorse, man
00:08:38I love what you did
00:08:39You're crazy talented, crazy unbelievable
00:08:41If we say no to him, what are we doing here?
00:08:44Yeah, yeah
00:08:44Boom
00:08:46I have an announcement
00:08:47Hey, yay
00:08:50It was just
00:08:52You can handle it, the bad boys, any day of the week
00:08:55I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet
00:09:04I wonder, do we have any valedictorians in this class?
00:09:07Hmm
00:09:07Where did you rank in your class, Carrie?
00:09:09I was salutatorian
00:09:12But the only reason I wasn't valedictorian
00:09:14Is because two of the classes I needed were at the same time
00:09:18So you could have been it
00:09:20Yeah, and I remember talking to the counselor like, this isn't fair
00:09:23What were you?
00:09:25I was not in the running
00:09:27You didn't qualify
00:09:29I was known back then as Lionel Who?
00:09:33I didn't even know I was in the class
00:09:36Oh, God
00:09:37How are you feeling?
00:09:39Good, I'm excited, I'm nervous, happy to be here
00:09:41Finally here
00:09:42Oh, it says idol
00:09:44Today's the day
00:09:46Feels incredible to have my family here
00:09:48Because they definitely shaped me into the young woman I am today
00:09:52And I don't know who I'd be without them
00:09:54Love you so much
00:09:56I've just been trying to think all the positive thoughts, manifest all the things
00:10:00But the fact it's all today, I think it's kind of stressed me out a little
00:10:04Oh my gosh, I don't know why I'm so nervous
00:10:05I'm sorry
00:10:08Come on in
00:10:09Hello
00:10:09How are you?
00:10:10Good, thanks, how are you guys doing?
00:10:12The sunshine yellow, we're doing fine
00:10:15Tell us who you are, where are you from?
00:10:16My name is Ruby Ray, I'm 16 years old and I'm from Pacific Palisades, California
00:10:20What are you going to sing for us?
00:10:21I'm singing Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo
00:10:23Very good
00:10:24Let's hear it
00:10:33Hate to give the satisfaction asking how you're doing now
00:10:37How's the castle built off people you pretend to care about
00:10:40Just what you wanted
00:10:44I see the party's up to truly
00:10:47Gotta laugh at this stupidity
00:10:49I made some real big mistakes
00:10:53You made the worst one look fine
00:10:56I should have known
00:10:58It was strange
00:11:00You only come out at night
00:11:03I used to think I was smart
00:11:06You made me look so naive
00:11:09The way you sold me for parts
00:11:13As you sunk your teeth into me
00:11:16Oh, blood sucker
00:11:19Dream crusher
00:11:21Bleeding me dry like a damn vampire
00:11:27You said it was true love
00:11:29But wouldn't that be hard?
00:11:31You can't love anyone
00:11:32Cause that would mean you had a heart
00:11:34I tried to help you out
00:11:36Now I know that I can't
00:11:38Cause I think she's the kind of thing
00:11:39I'll never understand
00:11:45I made some real big mistakes
00:11:49You made the worst one look fine
00:11:52I should have known
00:11:54It was strange
00:11:55You only come out at night
00:11:58I used to think I was smart
00:12:01You made me look so naive
00:12:04The way you sold me for parts
00:12:08You soaked your teeth into me
00:12:11Oh, oh, oh
00:12:11Oh, oh, oh, oh
00:12:13Oh, wow
00:12:14Blood sucker
00:12:16Dream crusher
00:12:19Lead me dry
00:12:22Like a damn vampire
00:12:39I am so happy for us.
00:12:43I'm so happy for you.
00:12:45Wow.
00:12:46That was right on the money.
00:12:51Thank you so much.
00:12:52If there were a thousand things on a list to check, I think you checked them all.
00:12:56I mean, I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet.
00:13:01Really, really incredible.
00:13:04Your breath control is quite amazing.
00:13:08There was one point and you just kept going.
00:13:10And I'm like, when is she going to breathe?
00:13:14I'm just curious to know, what drove you to be here?
00:13:17Performing is my favorite thing ever.
00:13:19And I'm also here, really, for my community, the Palisades.
00:13:24We need a win after such a hard year for everyone.
00:13:27And I'm just, yeah, here singing for my family and my community.
00:13:32In January of 2025, there was a wildfire that destroyed a lot of our community.
00:13:40So much of our community burnt, like my preschool, the first theater I ever performed in, the home that I
00:13:48lived in until I was five, my childhood best friend's homes.
00:13:59Um, it was a really, it's been a really hard time seeing the town that I grew up in completely
00:14:05gone.
00:14:05Nothing for my love for you.
00:14:08After the fires, it was really hard to just find joy in the little things.
00:14:12But it's taught me a lot.
00:14:13It's taught me when everyone comes together, it can be so strong.
00:14:18Well, sorry for all of that.
00:14:19I know the pain that that community is going through.
00:14:22And to have such a bright spot like you to come in and represent is fantastic.
00:14:28I want to vote.
00:14:30Please, Luke, Luke, calm down.
00:14:32I want to vote.
00:14:32Calm down.
00:14:33Talk about it.
00:14:34What do you want to do, Lionel?
00:14:35I want to vote.
00:14:36Okay.
00:14:37It's a yes.
00:14:38Big old yes.
00:14:39Big old yes.
00:14:40Luke.
00:14:41As big as a yes can sound.
00:14:44This was a yes.
00:14:44Of course it was a yes.
00:14:45Are you kidding me?
00:14:47That was fantastic.
00:14:48Come on down here.
00:14:49You're going to Hollywood Week.
00:14:51Oh my gosh.
00:14:51Go out and celebrate.
00:14:55Oh my gosh.
00:14:59This golden ticket was 100% for my family and my community in the Palisades.
00:15:04This has definitely been one of the most challenging years, but I've learned that I can keep powering
00:15:09through and the light will keep on shining.
00:15:11Hollywood Week is upon you.
00:15:15That's a definite top tenner.
00:15:19That's a different kind of 16.
00:15:21I agree.
00:15:23Now that's a different kind of 16-year-old.
00:15:25Wow.
00:15:25I will give me no thing but my love for you.
00:15:32Carrie Underwood named the highest rated RIAA certified female country artist of all time.
00:15:42Hi.
00:15:43Way to go.
00:15:46Way to go.
00:15:49Congratulations.
00:15:50Congratulations.
00:15:51You are a wonderful co-judge.
00:15:53Make our judging.
00:15:54I love it.
00:15:54You beat everybody.
00:15:55You slaved them.
00:15:56How does that make you feel?
00:15:57I like winning.
00:16:00Carrie Underwood is literally my favorite singer of all time since I was five and I saw her on
00:16:06American Idol.
00:16:06The performer that I got to is Carrie Underwood.
00:16:09I like to love her and if I see her and see her, I might pass out.
00:16:16Hi.
00:16:16Hello.
00:16:17Who are you?
00:16:18My name is Cameron Palmer and I'm 25 and I'm from Florida but I've lived here for six
00:16:24years so I actually dressed up as you for Halloween after you won Idol.
00:16:29I was five years old.
00:16:31My mom is awesome.
00:16:33She sent a photo to you and I got a little postcard back.
00:16:36It's dated December 2006.
00:16:38Wow.
00:16:39And I thought I'd bring it now so hopefully it's good luck.
00:16:43Hopefully.
00:16:44I love you so much.
00:16:46What are you going to sing today?
00:16:47Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue.
00:16:50Wow.
00:16:50Wow.
00:16:50You're already making Carrie happy.
00:16:53What just happened?
00:17:00You know I'm a dreamer, but my heart's of gold, but to run away high, so when you come home
00:17:14low,
00:17:15I'm on my way, I'm on my way.
00:17:20Home Sweet Home.
00:17:25Tonight, tonight, I'm on my way, I'm on my way, home sweet home.
00:17:42All righty.
00:17:44Cameron, you're very comfortable in playing and singing and emoting,
00:17:50which is really refreshing.
00:17:52You've got a nice voice, but I just don't know if it's all the way there yet for Idol.
00:17:57I'm trying to place you in a setting where seven songs in, is the house going to come down?
00:18:04I'm still not quite clear on that element of it.
00:18:09Yeah.
00:18:11It's going to be a no, but it's a real optimistic no.
00:18:14Okay.
00:18:15You have a good voice.
00:18:16I would love to hear more fire in there.
00:18:18It's just crazy.
00:18:19I know, I know.
00:18:21But if you can find that sass and push your voice, I think you deserve a chance to do that.
00:18:28So it's a yes for me.
00:18:29Cool.
00:18:31I'm going to work my butt off.
00:18:35I'm a no.
00:18:36Okay.
00:18:38Before I go, can I sing it with you?
00:18:40Let's do it!
00:18:41Okay.
00:18:41Oh, that's so cool that you would ask.
00:18:44Yeah.
00:18:46Okay.
00:18:48Can you start or do I have to start?
00:18:50Did y'all plan this?
00:18:51No!
00:18:54All right, I'll go.
00:18:55Okay.
00:19:09I was hoping that the saying no part would get easier.
00:19:17And it did not.
00:19:20It's a no for me.
00:19:22And it's, I was like 15 years old and I had a chance and it didn't work out.
00:19:29And if it had, it would have been the worst thing that had ever happened to me.
00:19:32So just keep, keep at it, girlfriend.
00:19:36I don't want to BS these kids.
00:19:38I don't want to fluff them.
00:19:40You know, I want to make sure they understand they're not ready yet.
00:19:43I would really like to see you spend more time working on your, on your vocals.
00:19:48Yeah, it's a no for me.
00:19:51It's a no for me, bud.
00:19:52Thank you for being here.
00:19:53Thank y'all.
00:19:54Thank you, man.
00:19:56Still the no.
00:19:58You always just want to really reassure them that it's not their time yet.
00:20:04I'm going to give you an encouraging no.
00:20:06I want to push you and I want you to find some fire in there.
00:20:09And for them to go continue their path in the music business.
00:20:14Sweet home tonight, tonight, I'm on my way, I'm on my way, sweet home.
00:20:31There you go.
00:20:32It was like one of the best moments of my life.
00:20:36Lionel, they rehearsed that somewhere.
00:20:39Of course they did.
00:20:41I'm on my way, I'm on my way.
00:20:46Oh, no.
00:20:47I finally sang that piece of pepper out of my throat.
00:20:49Oh, God.
00:20:50Luke, be careful.
00:20:53No.
00:20:55Yeah.
00:20:55It's okay.
00:20:56I got to sing with Carrie.
00:20:58You guys are heartless.
00:20:59We are not heartless.
00:21:01We are heartless.
00:21:02I'm 1,000% going to keep singing.
00:21:03It's my whole life.
00:21:04It's what I believe I was put on this earth to do, and I'm going to keep doing it.
00:21:09All right.
00:21:09I'm on my way.
00:21:11Yay.
00:21:13I'm on my way.
00:21:15Home, sweet home.
00:21:21My name is Michael Garner.
00:21:22I'm from Palestine, Arkansas, and I'm a sophomore in high school.
00:21:25Hey, y'all.
00:21:26What's up?
00:21:27All right.
00:21:27Hey.
00:21:28Gosh, how old are you?
00:21:29I'm 16 years old.
00:21:31That's great.
00:21:32Days of money.
00:21:33When I found out I was going to be able to audition, I started busting out crying.
00:21:37Me and my mom and my dad.
00:21:39We're going to give you a shot.
00:21:40Are you serious?
00:21:41Yes, I am serious.
00:21:42Oh, my gosh.
00:21:43I feel like this audition could definitely change my lives and my family's lives.
00:21:47But you're a long way.
00:21:50He's going to do great.
00:21:52We all believe in him.
00:21:53We're behind you.
00:21:55We love you.
00:21:56I've watched Idol with my family for a long time.
00:22:01This has always been mine and their dream.
00:22:03I always said that I was going to be on there someday, and here I am.
00:22:07But what do you do in Arkansas other than music?
00:22:10You know, deer hunt, duck hunt.
00:22:12The only thing there really is in Arkansas is football games and back roads, you know.
00:22:15A little bit nervous going in there?
00:22:16Yeah.
00:22:17It's the biggest stage he's ever been on Ryan.
00:22:19It's a big one.
00:22:20Yeah.
00:22:21What kind of music are you into?
00:22:22Country.
00:22:23All right.
00:22:24This man says what he says, and he says what he says.
00:22:27I like it.
00:22:27Man a few words.
00:22:28What are you going to sing?
00:22:29I'm going to sing I'm Still Fine by the Red Clay Strays.
00:22:31Perfect.
00:22:32All right.
00:22:32Let's hear it.
00:22:36I'm on display.
00:22:39I've lost my way.
00:22:42Oh, God, I pray.
00:22:46Let this pass over.
00:22:50I lost the note.
00:22:53I rocked the ball.
00:22:57I've even choked.
00:23:00I lost my composure.
00:23:02People here living it up.
00:23:05I think they're blind.
00:23:08I think they're out of their mind.
00:23:12Like one of them has had this.
00:23:17God's not giving me up.
00:23:20No, I'm just fine.
00:23:21It's just a matter of time.
00:23:26Though I can't feel my sadness.
00:23:31I know that it should be there.
00:23:34Baby, I'm just too tired to care.
00:23:37Because I'm still fine.
00:23:43All right.
00:23:48Where's he going?
00:23:50Boom.
00:23:51Boom.
00:23:51There you go.
00:23:53Boom.
00:23:54I wish you were like 20 years old.
00:23:57I mean, I believe I'm ready.
00:23:59You know, I'm willing to give y'all everything I got.
00:24:01Yeah, you are.
00:24:02You're really good.
00:24:03Yeah, you are.
00:24:03Whatever happens today, you're on the right path.
00:24:06Yes, ma'am.
00:24:07What you do with your voice is definitely beyond 16.
00:24:11Like, I feel like you have a control and a composure about yourself.
00:24:15I think I'm going to be wrestling over here.
00:24:19I think your opening was just nerves.
00:24:23That look has not caught up to that matured voice.
00:24:27I'll have to think about this while Luke is talking to you.
00:24:30If we say no to him, what are we doing here?
00:24:33Yeah, yeah.
00:24:33I know what you're saying.
00:24:34In my opinion.
00:24:35I mean, I know he's young, but we're all saying that he sings great.
00:24:42Oh, she's just playing guitar great, and he's singing pretty daggone good.
00:24:47So I look at you, and I see my son, and I would not throw him in the middle of
00:24:56it where
00:24:57you are at 16.
00:24:59So that's where I'm coming from.
00:25:03A no for me.
00:25:07What do we do with this young prodigy?
00:25:15It's a yes for me.
00:25:17Nice.
00:25:28Tears.
00:25:28Tickets.
00:25:32Congratulations.
00:25:33Come over here, young man.
00:25:34Was that terrifying?
00:25:36I mean, right in front of him.
00:25:39We did it.
00:25:39We're going to Hollywood week.
00:25:41Let's go.
00:25:41He's going to do Justin Bieber.
00:25:43Dad scares the crap out of me.
00:25:44Listen.
00:25:45I'm like, oh, God.
00:25:45Listen, you're right.
00:25:47All I can think about is Justin Timberlake.
00:25:54You can't take the mama.
00:25:56You can't take the mama out of me.
00:25:59Since when do you have a heart and you're a mother?
00:26:03Miss Carrie, I just want to say I'm going to prove to you that I have what it takes.
00:26:15It's been a good day.
00:26:18Hello, hello.
00:26:19Hey.
00:26:21Hello.
00:26:21Tell us all about yourself.
00:26:23My name is Sheldon Riley.
00:26:25I'm 26 years old from Melbourne, Australia.
00:26:29What you doing here?
00:26:31American Idol, huh?
00:26:32You're crazy.
00:26:37I wanted to do music since I was a really young kid.
00:26:40When I was maybe about 15 years old, I sung at my school, and I remember that first applause.
00:26:47I was like, yeah, this is what I want to do.
00:26:48I love the way it made me feel.
00:26:50I love the way that it made me feel noticed.
00:26:53About 10 years ago, I auditioned for a big TV show back in Australia.
00:26:58It's my big moment.
00:27:00And I sung my song, and they said it wasn't quite enough.
00:27:06Just you singing, it's not enough.
00:27:08You said don't lie, so I made the truth.
00:27:11That experience made me doubt myself.
00:27:13It made me feel I had to play a character just to be seen.
00:27:16It seemed like a lie to even you.
00:27:19I kind of created this character that dressed up like crazy, the most avant-garde, high fashion,
00:27:25crystals and diamonds, and it was the thing that made people see me.
00:27:28You'll be my resolution.
00:27:30It just kind of took off.
00:27:32I had opportunities like crazy, not just Australia, but the entire world.
00:27:39I've been on every TV show competition known to men.
00:27:43I've done it all.
00:27:43And the art was just getting crazier and crazier and crazier.
00:27:47It almost felt like an addiction to be the most memorable person in the room.
00:27:52But I'd come home.
00:27:55I'd take the mask off, the makeup, the accessories, the everything.
00:27:59And I would hate the person that I saw in the mirror.
00:28:02Hated that version of me.
00:28:04I'm not you, nor you mean.
00:28:08So I took two years off and remembered why that little kid got up on stage that first time.
00:28:16And this is the one show, there's no smoke, there's no mirrors, no nothing.
00:28:20And I said to myself, if I was going to come back into music, it would be here with just
00:28:23the piano and just me.
00:28:25And if you don't like it, you don't like it.
00:28:27I don't ever know if anyone's ever really going to want what I have to give without
00:28:31everything that I usually put on.
00:28:34That's a big part of why I'm here, just to remind myself that my voice is enough.
00:28:42Everybody's got their version of what you just said.
00:28:45You know, everybody's got their mask, whether it is something physical that they hide behind
00:28:49or this certain identity that they've created for themselves.
00:28:54And, you know, then of course you do worry that if I wasn't that, would anyone still love me?
00:29:01You're very relatable.
00:29:03What are you going to sing for us today?
00:29:06This is Brother by Matt Corby.
00:29:08It's an Australian singer.
00:29:10Yeah.
00:29:12All right, thank you.
00:29:32Somebody call out to your brother.
00:29:35He's calling out your name.
00:29:37Oh, hiding under the covers with no one else to blame.
00:29:45Oh, you couldn't help out your own name.
00:29:49Your neighbor, you couldn't tell it to his face.
00:29:53You were messed up by the place.
00:29:59You're carrying the corner.
00:30:01Can't fight it further.
00:30:04Let it out.
00:30:06Say, yeah.
00:30:09Even if it passed away.
00:30:17Wait there, pull yourself out of this state.
00:30:24Dear, acknowledge you were a fake.
00:30:30Here and from then you might just go.
00:30:40Somebody call out to your brother.
00:30:43He's calling out your name.
00:30:46Oh, yeah.
00:30:51You couldn't know about your wrong neighbor.
00:30:53You couldn't tell it to his face.
00:30:56You weren't messed up by the place.
00:31:04Yeah.
00:31:06Wow.
00:31:07Thanks.
00:31:10You're crazy talented.
00:31:12Crazy unbelievable.
00:31:14Don't know why you ever had to wear the mask, because you're an amazing looking person.
00:31:18You being the loudest guy in the room, you don't always have to be that.
00:31:22Being the most dynamic singer in the room, you don't have to be that.
00:31:25It's okay to just peel a layer off.
00:31:28But that was impressive.
00:31:31You're an artist, man.
00:31:32And you're authentic.
00:31:34I love watching someone in their moment.
00:31:38You have stage presence.
00:31:42It's all there.
00:31:44Accept you.
00:31:45Embrace you.
00:31:48I'm really glad you're here.
00:31:50I'm really glad I'm here.
00:31:52I love your voice.
00:31:54Let's vote.
00:31:58Yes.
00:32:01Yes.
00:32:01Thank you very much.
00:32:03And make it three.
00:32:04It's a yes for me.
00:32:05You're on Hollywood Week.
00:32:07I appreciate it.
00:32:08Thank you so much.
00:32:10Yeah, man.
00:32:11You just sing.
00:32:13Enjoy.
00:32:14Enjoy this.
00:32:15All right.
00:32:15Welcome to the class.
00:32:19I've been judged by a lot of people.
00:32:22Very important people.
00:32:23But I feel like that was the first time it really meant something.
00:32:26Because I went out there, not playing a character.
00:32:31It was me.
00:32:32They liked me.
00:32:33If nothing lasts forever, babe.
00:32:36Can we make a star?
00:32:41Oh, yeah.
00:32:42This is going to be good.
00:32:46I'm Trace Casanova.
00:32:47I'm 22 years old.
00:32:48I'm a lounge singer from Charlotte, North Carolina.
00:32:52Is that your God-given name?
00:32:54Oh, no.
00:32:54No.
00:32:55Oh, God.
00:32:55I was raised by bikers.
00:32:57Growing up in the dive bars, biker clubs.
00:33:00That's where they get the leather vest from, you know?
00:33:02My motto is I take my career seriously, not myself.
00:33:07One, two, three, four.
00:33:09One, two, three.
00:33:10I'm just out of school.
00:33:11I'm real, real cool.
00:33:13Gotta jump, gotta jive.
00:33:14Got the message.
00:33:15I'm alive.
00:33:15I'm a wild.
00:33:16I'm a wild one.
00:33:18Oh, I'm a wild one.
00:33:21Gonna keep it shaking.
00:33:23Gonna keep it moving, mama.
00:33:25Don't you cramp my style.
00:33:26I'm a real wild child.
00:33:27You keep going, friend.
00:33:28Hey, Carrie, I just wanted to say you're one of the most gorgeous judges I've ever seen.
00:33:32No offense, fella.
00:33:33Thank you so much.
00:33:34If we were to go out dancing, let me show you what would happen.
00:33:36All right.
00:33:37Woo.
00:33:38Well, I'm gonna pick you up in my 88.
00:33:42Get ready, sugar, and don't be late.
00:33:45We're gonna move it all night long.
00:33:49Whole lot of shaking going on.
00:33:51I'm a wild one.
00:33:53Yeah, baby, I'm a wild one.
00:33:57Gonna break loose.
00:33:59Gonna keep it moving, baby.
00:34:00Don't you cramp my style.
00:34:02I'm a real wild child.
00:34:03Why'd you give her back?
00:34:05You don't give her back.
00:34:07Keep her dancing.
00:34:08Bring it home, friendly.
00:34:09Cramp my style.
00:34:10I'm a real wild child.
00:34:15Woo!
00:34:20Woo, woo, woo!
00:34:22Encore!
00:34:23Way, way, way.
00:34:24We need more.
00:34:25We're about to have another song, right?
00:34:26I think we do.
00:34:27I think we do.
00:34:27We're gonna need one.
00:34:28Get the energy going.
00:34:29All right, sure.
00:34:34I like big butts, and I cannot lie.
00:34:39Yes!
00:34:41You are the brothers, can't deny.
00:34:45When a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist,
00:34:50stand around, thing in your face, you get sprung.
00:34:54Wanna pull up tough, cause you noticed, that butt was stuffed, deep in the jean she's wearing.
00:35:03I'm hooked, and I can't stop staring.
00:35:06Oh, baby, wanna come with ya, and take your picture.
00:35:10My homeboys tried to warn me, but the butt you got, make me so, it's fellas.
00:35:17Yeah.
00:35:17Fellas.
00:35:18Has your girlfriend got the butt?
00:35:20Oh, yeah!
00:35:21Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt, baby got back.
00:35:28Hey, bring it in, everybody.
00:35:30Baby got back.
00:35:49I like you, Trace.
00:35:53Luke, what do you think?
00:35:55Oh, Casanova.
00:35:57I think it's probably a stretch for American Idol, but I can appreciate your ministry.
00:36:03Yeah, thanks.
00:36:05Joy, humor.
00:36:07I love what you did.
00:36:09Honestly, when I tell you that.
00:36:11But unfortunately, this is a competition.
00:36:14Right.
00:36:14I don't want to let you guys vote.
00:36:18I'm in charge here.
00:36:19I like big butts and I cannot lie.
00:36:24I feel you, Carrie.
00:36:25I know what you're saying.
00:36:25I think we need you.
00:36:26I think you're a morale booster for all of us.
00:36:29I'm thinking of myself and my fellow judges and all the people that work on this show and
00:36:33all the joy you would bring as you go forth.
00:36:36So I'm going to give you a yes.
00:36:40All right.
00:36:42I'm going to give you a no.
00:36:45All right.
00:36:47What is it, Lionel?
00:36:52I like big butts and I cannot lie.
00:36:55You love a brother.
00:36:57I never thought I would have Carrie Underwood fighting for me, but hey, I guess I'm just
00:37:02a cowboy Casanova.
00:37:04He's a class clown.
00:37:09It's one of her songs.
00:37:13We've got to check y'all's ears.
00:37:14This slice of Casanova cake is going to Hollywood week.
00:37:18I feel that some things just have to be pursued.
00:37:25No, this was, this was.
00:37:26It was great.
00:37:28I followed you, Carrie.
00:37:30What is happening?
00:37:31What is happening?
00:37:33Hi.
00:37:34Who do you listen to?
00:37:35Carrie, you've been like my vocal inspiration for as long as I can remember.
00:37:39Like, cowboy Casanova just has a very special place in my heart.
00:37:43Can you kind of give us a little taste?
00:37:45Let's hope I remember the lyrics.
00:37:47I will help you.
00:37:48She knows all the lyrics, so just look at her.
00:37:52He's a good time cowboy Casanova leaning up against the record machine.
00:38:01Look at her face.
00:38:02You've got to get some stank face going.
00:38:04He's a devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes, and he only comes to die at night.
00:38:10I'm like fangirling.
00:38:11I can't believe this is happening.
00:38:12That was great.
00:38:13Come on in, guys.
00:38:14Come on, guys.
00:38:15There you go.
00:38:17This is my instrument for today.
00:38:19Love it.
00:38:19Well, you brought enough backup, I would say.
00:38:22Tell us who you are, and then who are those people behind you?
00:38:26Well, my name is Kitty Tay.
00:38:28I'm 22, and I'm from Levine, Arizona.
00:38:30And this is Mosaic Whispers, my college acapella group.
00:38:34And I thought I'd share one of my songs with y'all, with them as my instrument.
00:38:37Okay.
00:38:38What are you going to sing for us?
00:38:39We're going to sing Masterpiece by Jasmine Sullivan.
00:38:41Wow.
00:38:42Let's have it.
00:38:43Oh, my eyes ain't used to these rays.
00:38:48I'm feeling exposed.
00:38:52But I can't hide no more.
00:38:54I can't hide.
00:38:56As the sun shines on all of the glory, my claws don't look so bad at all.
00:39:03What was I so afraid of?
00:39:07Every part of me is a vision of a portrait, Mona.
00:39:12Of Mona Lisa.
00:39:15Of Mona Lisa.
00:39:17Every part of me is beautiful.
00:39:21And I'll finally see.
00:39:24I'm a work of art.
00:39:25I'm a masterpiece.
00:39:27Peter!
00:39:30I'm a work of art.
00:39:34I'm a work of art.
00:39:42She's my wish.
00:39:45I'm a work of art.
00:39:47I'm a work of art.
00:39:48Yeah, I can't hide, me.
00:39:51I'm a work of art.
00:39:52I'm a work of art.
00:39:56Carrie?
00:39:57Very sweet.
00:39:58I feel like you were so sweet and smiley,
00:40:02and I feel like it needed maybe a little more
00:40:04staying in character, just a little bit.
00:40:07Okay.
00:40:07But you have a fabulous voice.
00:40:10Absolutely.
00:40:11Thank you so much.
00:40:12Luke?
00:40:12Yeah, I mean, surprisingly,
00:40:13you've got a nice country tone to it.
00:40:16That soulful country.
00:40:17Yeah, soulful country, and even on the song
00:40:20with the whole group,
00:40:21you really had some great vocal moments, too.
00:40:24Okay, thank you.
00:40:25Let's vote. Carrie?
00:40:26I would like to hear more.
00:40:28It's a yes for me.
00:40:31Oh, my gosh.
00:40:33Yes.
00:40:34Yay!
00:40:35It's a yes for me, without a doubt.
00:40:39Welcome to the university.
00:40:41Oh, my gosh.
00:40:42You got it.
00:40:43Thank you so much.
00:40:44It's so nice to meet you.
00:40:45It's so nice to meet you.
00:40:46Stay with me.
00:40:47So good, you guys.
00:40:48Ladies.
00:40:49Fantastic.
00:40:50Great support.
00:40:53That was amazing.
00:40:56Oh, my gosh.
00:40:56Can't really believe what just happened.
00:40:58But it's okay.
00:40:59Pinch me.
00:41:02She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:06Woo!
00:41:11I couldn't stop looking at her baby knees.
00:41:13Her what?
00:41:14Baby knees.
00:41:16When you have, like, a face in your knees.
00:41:19Oh, really?
00:41:20Do you know baby knees?
00:41:21I've never heard of that.
00:41:22I have baby knees.
00:41:24Oh, really?
00:41:24Right after Kate and William had their baby George, right?
00:41:29Right.
00:41:30My knees were in a magazine.
00:41:32And it was like, Prince George's face is in Carrie Underwood's knees.
00:41:37And I was like, what the crap is going on with my knees?
00:41:41So I have baby faces in my knees.
00:41:44And I can make them sing, too.
00:41:46You can make them sing?
00:41:47It was like, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah.
00:41:52I gotta check my knees now.
00:41:53All right.
00:41:55That's crazy.
00:42:15Ah, there we are.
00:42:16Hello.
00:42:16How you doing?
00:42:17Good.
00:42:17How are you?
00:42:18Great.
00:42:19What's your name?
00:42:20Hannah Harper.
00:42:21Where are you from?
00:42:21Willow Springs, Missouri.
00:42:23Where did you get that dress?
00:42:25This was homemade.
00:42:26This doesn't scream yee-haw.
00:42:28I don't know what will.
00:42:29What kind of music do you perform, listen to?
00:42:32I grew up doing bluegrass.
00:42:34My family had a bluegrass gospel band.
00:42:36Went church to church and sang at churches.
00:42:40I grew up in a super musical family.
00:42:42My dad worked at the lead mine for several years.
00:42:45One evening, he was just feeling like God was calling him to do something different with
00:42:48his life.
00:42:49So in 2009, my parents quit their jobs and we bought a bus and we went on the road as
00:42:53a family band.
00:42:56The tour bus was 40 foot long.
00:42:58It was bright red.
00:42:59And we lived on the bus for seven years.
00:43:02We just would go coast to coast and play banjos and sing for the Lord.
00:43:07It was a very unconventional upbringing.
00:43:09But I literally wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
00:43:20We didn't come back into Missouri until 2016.
00:43:22We settled back down and then I met my husband.
00:43:25We got married and we found out we were pregnant with our first baby like four months after
00:43:29we got married.
00:43:30Every morning.
00:43:31Oh, right in the noggin.
00:43:33I'm sorry, buddy.
00:43:35Every morning.
00:43:35Then one turned to three really fast.
00:43:37With three boys, it comes a lot of chaos.
00:43:39Same old coffee.
00:43:40Same old coffee.
00:43:41And a lot of fun.
00:43:42Same old coffee.
00:43:43Same old coffee.
00:43:44Sorry, why are you standing up there?
00:43:46Same old house.
00:43:48Same old stuff.
00:43:49Same old stuff.
00:43:50It's just hectic at all times.
00:43:52Mom, eat some pizza paper.
00:43:56Let's eat some pizza and then you can go take a nap.
00:43:58Do you want to go na-na?
00:43:59No!
00:44:00No!
00:44:00No!
00:44:01I'm trying out for the show just because I want the opportunity to give the boys the
00:44:04same life that I had growing up in a bigger way, if possible, to be able to sustain my
00:44:09family and do music full time.
00:44:13I have two boys.
00:44:15They make things more interesting.
00:44:16Oh, for sure.
00:44:17Yeah.
00:44:18Mine's been screaming all day.
00:44:19Good.
00:44:19Yay.
00:44:20That's great.
00:44:21Love it.
00:44:21What are you going to sing for us today?
00:44:23I'm going to sing an original that I wrote called String Cheese.
00:44:26You're like my favorite person.
00:44:27You're wearing homemade clothes.
00:44:29You're singing songs called String Cheese.
00:44:31What's the song about?
00:44:32My youngest is one, and shortly after he was born, I had postpartum depression, and
00:44:36so I was sitting on my couch.
00:44:37I said I wasn't going to cry.
00:44:41I was sitting on my couch wallowing.
00:44:45And you have boys, you know, everybody wants to touch you, and I didn't want to be touched.
00:44:52And my youngest son, like I was just having a pity party and praying that the Lord would
00:44:57calm my spirit, and my son kept coming up to me.
00:45:03He said, Mom, open this.
00:45:04Mom, open this.
00:45:04Open my cheese.
00:45:05I'm like, do you leave me alone with the dadgum cheese?
00:45:07And I finally opened his cheese, and when I did, I realized that God had put me in that
00:45:11place, and that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have, and
00:45:17being a mom.
00:45:17Mom, so I gathered myself, and I got up off the couch, and I quit throwing a pity party,
00:45:22and I realized that that was exactly what I wanted, and I kind of kicked the postpartum
00:45:28depression in the butt, and I said, I ain't doing it.
00:45:31There you go.
00:45:31So I wrote this song called String Cheese.
00:45:33Please.
00:45:35Do you need a second?
00:45:36I want to give you, like...
00:45:38Probably just give me one second.
00:45:39Yeah.
00:45:40I can't cry and sing, so I don't want to put you in that position.
00:45:45That is a tough one.
00:45:46Here.
00:45:46Thank you so much.
00:45:55Ready?
00:45:56I think so.
00:46:23Huh.
00:46:27Always crying.
00:46:28It's pure chaos, but I don't miss a beat.
00:46:33Always knew that a nine to five wouldn't suit me very good.
00:46:39But my hours are extended.
00:46:42That's just motherhood.
00:46:45I never knew this is what my twenties would look like.
00:46:51But they saved me before I had the chance to waste my life.
00:46:57One day I'll be alone with a hot, fresh cup of joe.
00:47:04Wishing that someone would just drop me by.
00:47:09And I'll sit and reminisce on times that I sure miss.
00:47:15I've scattered toys and a baby on my hip.
00:47:21I thought finding peace in the quiet's what I wanted.
00:47:27But I'd do anything to go back to being needed.
00:47:33To those days I want to cry, run away and hide.
00:47:40But I'd worry about their every need.
00:47:45When I'm overwhelmed and touched out.
00:47:49They come climbing up on the couch.
00:47:53Saying, Mama, can you open my strange cheeks?
00:47:58I smile because I know meeting their needs fills my soul.
00:48:04Being there, Mama, is who I'm meant to be.
00:48:14To those days I just want to cry.
00:48:15That's great.
00:48:15Do you have more things?
00:48:16Oh.
00:48:18My turn.
00:48:21This pack is going quick.
00:48:23Yeah, but.
00:48:27Well that's about the most relatable song I think I've ever heard.
00:48:32Hannah.
00:48:34Great job.
00:48:36Great job.
00:48:36Just with that mountainous bluegrass sound that you have in there.
00:48:42I kept thinking like Kacey Musgraves is in there.
00:48:45I kept thinking certainly Alison Krauss.
00:48:48Like a little dolly.
00:48:49A little dolly in there.
00:48:51And gosh, even if we got you to lean in more on it.
00:48:54Fill the room a little more.
00:48:55You're going to be able to move some people.
00:48:57But great song.
00:48:58Way to really write the moment you're in.
00:49:01Yeah.
00:49:01Yeah.
00:49:02I want you to use Dolly as the example of two things.
00:49:06One, her storytelling ability.
00:49:08And two, she has the ability to tell that story and then give us a lift.
00:49:13Mm-hmm.
00:49:14You've got the range.
00:49:15I would have loved to have found you just on one of those lines.
00:49:17Just hold it for a minute.
00:49:19I was going up but then I chickened out because I was crying.
00:49:23Yeah, yeah.
00:49:23It was hard to come from a tear.
00:49:25It is.
00:49:25You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors.
00:49:29Wow.
00:49:29In the past three days.
00:49:29You're my new best friend.
00:49:32You're gorgeous.
00:49:33Like you look famous already.
00:49:36I just think you have just a beautiful simplicity to your voice.
00:49:40You're one that I'm going to think about when we leave here.
00:49:43Like I wonder what song she's going to sing next.
00:49:46And I feel like I'm going to be just rooting for you.
00:49:48I loved everything about everything you just did.
00:49:52Thank you so much.
00:49:53I mean, it's a yes.
00:49:54I'll go first.
00:49:54Is it a yes for me?
00:49:55I'll go second.
00:49:56Is it a yes for me?
00:49:57Yes for me.
00:49:58Heck yeah, brother.
00:50:00Get this.
00:50:01You are going to Hollywood Week.
00:50:03It's nice to meet you.
00:50:04Nice to meet you too.
00:50:11Hearing Carrie say that I was one of her favorite people that has walked through the doors,
00:50:14I almost melted in my boots.
00:50:15That's the biggest compliment I've ever received.
00:50:17She was great.
00:50:19Goodness.
00:50:20It means a lot to me to get up there and stand and represent other moms.
00:50:25And let them know that they're not alone.
00:50:27And let them know that they can still chase their dreams with their little people.
00:50:30Some real juice on that one.
00:50:33Unassuming.
00:50:35Sweet.
00:50:39Sweet.
00:50:45Yeah.
00:50:48Can I help me put it on the fridge?
00:50:52Good job.
00:50:53Ooh.
00:50:55Ooh.
00:51:00Don't worry, love.
00:51:01No, you don't have to wait.
00:51:04She said love don't come easy.
00:51:07It's a game of give and take.
00:51:09I'll remember mama's dad.
00:51:10Oh, I miss me!
00:51:12Just got me away.
00:51:12Have you seen the guy do this?
00:51:14Just got me away.
00:51:14With pins and stuff?
00:51:15Is that one of your TikToks?
00:51:16Yeah, that's TikTok.
00:51:17I can tell right away.
00:51:18He's on, he's on the TikTok doom scroll.
00:51:24Oh, man.
00:51:25I remember swearing off TikTok, and now I'm a TikToker.
00:51:32Is he down?
00:51:34Is he down?
00:51:35Is he down?
00:51:38I'm addicted to TikTok.
00:51:40I'll just go on and say it if anybody wants to intervene.
00:51:45Oh, look at that.
00:51:46Hey.
00:51:56And now I'm actually scrolling, finding talent that somehow makes it in front of us judges.
00:52:03Well, tell us how you made it here.
00:52:05Somebody happened to see me.
00:52:07That's right.
00:52:09What's your dreams in music?
00:52:11I want to go from being a TikTok singer to a real singer.
00:52:15And I also really want a Birkin bag.
00:52:17Oh.
00:52:18I've been everywhere, man, looking for you, babe.
00:52:22Looking for you, babe.
00:52:24Searching for you, babe.
00:52:26But Lord, I've had a lot of no's.
00:52:29I don't want to tell you no, because I feel like I'm responsible for bringing you here,
00:52:32but it's a no for me right now.
00:52:34It's going to be a no for me this trip.
00:52:39I agree.
00:52:40It's a no for me.
00:52:42Obviously, I'm learning that TikTok has filters on it to make you sound amazing.
00:52:47So maybe I need to go find those filters and sing on them myself.
00:52:52All right.
00:52:53Tell the world how you arrived here.
00:52:55I had somebody message me, and they were like, hey, come on in.
00:52:57Well, I might have seen you on TikTok.
00:53:01But I must say, currently, I'm 0 for 2 on TikTok referrals.
00:53:05We will know where this is going to be.
00:53:08Come on.
00:53:10I think I'm going to be okay.
00:53:12Yes, sir.
00:53:13Yes, sir.
00:53:14I think I ended the slump, Lionel.
00:53:16Probably leave.
00:53:21Woo!
00:53:23What do you think, Carrie?
00:53:28I'm a yes.
00:53:30Lionel.
00:53:32Congratulations, Luke.
00:53:34It's a yes for me.
00:53:36Hey, awesome.
00:53:38Yes.
00:53:39I'm one for three.
00:53:41There you go.
00:53:42Thank you guys so much.
00:53:45Mr. Luke Bryan, thank you so much for getting me here after seeing my TikTok.
00:53:51You did it.
00:53:52Finally.
00:53:53I was told that I saved Luke Bryan's career.
00:53:56And you totally redeemed yourself.
00:53:59All at the pop shop.
00:54:01Woo!
00:54:03Woo!
00:54:03Woo!
00:54:04Woo!
00:54:04Woo!

00:54:04Woo!
00:54:05Woo!
00:54:06Woo!
00:54:06What's happening, what's happening?
00:54:08Are you videoing?
00:54:08Oh, yep.
00:54:10Oh my gosh, Carmen I'm so proud of you.
00:54:14Yay!
00:54:17Oh, my goodness.
00:54:20Hi, I'm Carmen Laurel Martin, I'm 20 years old.
00:54:23I'm from El Dorado Hills, California.
00:54:25And I'm here with my aunt, Brittany Bateman from the Real House Wives of Salt Lake City.
00:54:31I'm so excited.
00:54:32She lives with me.
00:54:34You're on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:54:37So who is your nemesis, or is there not one?
00:54:40Or are there many?
00:54:41I feel like you guys are going to be in next season as well.
00:54:43I just get this vibe about you.
00:54:45We're going to start some fights.
00:54:48I think on the show, she's definitely still her silly self.
00:54:52She's a little crazy, and I love it.
00:54:54Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:54:57I have an announcement.
00:54:58What about me?
00:54:59You guys, seriously, what about me?
00:55:03What about me?
00:55:07Britney has always been a very big mentor to me to get out there.
00:55:12Get in, Kermit.
00:55:13Okay.
00:55:14She has her own spotlight.
00:55:15She's living out her dream, and that's why I'm here, too.
00:55:19She is music.
00:55:20I mean, she radiates music out of her pores.
00:55:24You look about it.
00:55:25It just explodes.
00:55:26Yeah.
00:55:27She bubbles in light.
00:55:28Yeah.
00:55:29Oh, Melita.
00:55:31That's my song.
00:55:32You go in there, and you rush it.
00:55:35My lovely Carmelita.
00:55:36Britney, you could stand to the side and just sing Carmelita.
00:55:38She comes in, and they don't know what this is.
00:55:40That's the entrance.
00:55:42Oh, Melita.
00:55:44I really should do that.
00:55:45Does anyone have a glass and a knife?
00:55:49Why do you have a wine glass?
00:55:52You'll see.
00:55:56Howdy, howdy, howdy.
00:55:57Hello.
00:55:58Whoa.
00:55:58Wait, what?
00:55:59What's happening?
00:56:01Hi.
00:56:01How are you?
00:56:02How are y'all?
00:56:03What do you have?
00:56:05I have an announcement.
00:56:06What is the announcement?
00:56:08This is my beautiful niece, Carmelita.
00:56:12That's been her nickname since she was born.
00:56:14Carmelita?
00:56:15That is me.
00:56:16Do you know me?
00:56:17I'm Britney.
00:56:19Britney Bateman.
00:56:22The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:56:24Oh, we are.
00:56:25Yes.
00:56:26But this is not about me.
00:56:27This is about my amazing, gorgeous, perfect niece.
00:56:31Hi.
00:56:31Who you're about to hear, and it's insane.
00:56:35Well, if we don't have good things to say, she has a knife.
00:56:37She has a weapon.
00:56:38So, all right, Miss Britney, you can go right there on that X.
00:56:42Yes.
00:56:42Be careful.
00:56:42Don't fall over there.
00:56:43Give away the spotlight to the niece.
00:56:46All right, let's hear it.
00:56:47Let's hear it.
00:56:48Okay.
00:56:48Do you guys want this?
00:56:50Yes.
00:56:50For good keeping?
00:56:51Oh, good keeping.
00:56:52Sure.
00:56:52Yes?
00:56:53Let's do it, Miss Carmen.
00:56:55Okay.
00:56:56Okay.
00:57:01I woke up with a headache today
00:57:05Cause I've got a mortgage due
00:57:08And an empty bed to make
00:57:16Baby, I bet you're happy now
00:57:21Probably found just someone new
00:57:24Who's got his life all figured out
00:57:30Girl, I thought it was love
00:57:38Girl, I knew it was love
00:57:45I guess I didn't know what love was
00:58:01Good job!
00:58:04You have a really pretty voice
00:58:06Like, your range is really great
00:58:08You're hitting some high notes in there
00:58:11Yeah
00:58:11But it would be great
00:58:12If you could put some oomph in there
00:58:14Yeah
00:58:14We actually might have something to sing together
00:58:17Okay
00:58:17Oh
00:58:18Oh, cool
00:58:19Yeah
00:58:19Let's hear y'all do one
00:58:20Okay
00:58:21Let's see where you go
00:58:22Just sing
00:58:22Have fun like you're in the living room
00:58:24You got it
00:58:25Okay
00:58:26Let me be your star
00:58:34I just have to forget the hurt that came before
00:58:41Forget what used to be
00:58:43The past is on the cutting floor
00:58:48The future is here with me
00:58:54Choose me
00:58:56Choose me
00:58:58It's all you've been needing
00:59:02It's all here and my heart's bleeding
00:59:05Let me be your star
00:59:17Oh, great
00:59:19Wow
00:59:21I learned
00:59:22Oh, you sound so
00:59:23Yeah, I think
00:59:24Friends and the family
00:59:25I learned something
00:59:26It's very good
00:59:27It was very present there
00:59:29We just got to get you to cut loose a little bit
00:59:31I think the piano is forcing you to be very proper
00:59:34Oh, you should see me with a band
00:59:36Well, we got to get you to the band
00:59:39That's very true
00:59:40That's very true
00:59:41I think that the only way she's going to actually understand this thing called roughing up
00:59:48Is to put her in a brawl
00:59:49And the only way to put you in a brawl
00:59:51Is to say yes
00:59:52So you can go to the next level and meet the rest of this crazy class
00:59:56And you'll understand what this means
00:59:58Oh, yeah
00:59:59Okay
01:00:00So it's a yes for me
01:00:01Okay
01:00:01I think your voice has definitely earned you a yes
01:00:05But I want to see some fire
01:00:08I can show it
01:00:09I kind of believe you can
01:00:11Is a yes
01:00:12Hey

01:00:15Boom, boom

01:03:30And I'm from Murphy, North Carolina
01:03:37When I was young
01:03:39My life revolved around baseball
01:03:41My twin brother, Kellen, and I
01:03:43Played sports constantly
01:03:46Dad was dead set on us
01:03:48Becoming college athletes
01:03:53Unfortunately
01:03:54Going into high school
01:03:55I was starting to have knee pain
01:03:56In both of my legs
01:03:57Then I found out
01:04:00That I have a congenital issue
01:04:03My legs are naturally
01:04:05In the wrong position
01:04:09I needed surgery
01:04:10I needed surgery
01:04:10I needed two lower leg realign
01:04:14That put a stop to the dreams of becoming an athlete
01:04:19It was tough seeing everybody be able to get to do what I wanted to do
01:04:25As I'm hurt
01:04:26It kind of hit me like
01:04:28Wait, I feel better when I am singing
01:04:31And my twin brother, Kellen, was there for me
01:04:35He was kind of like my voice of encouragement
01:04:40Growing up until now
01:04:41I always felt that his talent
01:04:43Is music
01:04:45Is singing
01:04:45And I couldn't be more proud of Braden
01:04:48Because of everything that he's going through
01:04:51Where he's at now
01:04:52With pursuing his new dream
01:04:53He's my hero
01:04:56The only reason that I hadn't signed up for American Idol

01:14:05Tell me about it.
01:14:07When you have a foundation and an instrument like you have,
01:14:10it's just a matter of what song would you like to sing.
01:14:13On this show, it's going to be challenging
01:14:14because you're going to cover everything from Disney songs
01:14:17all the way across to every event that ever happened in life
01:14:20in the music world.
01:14:21You can handle it with that voice any day of the week.
01:14:24I love what you did.
01:14:25Thank you so much.
01:14:26Well, great big voice.
01:14:28You just sang within your means.

01:14:42Get ready to do a lot of stuff.
01:14:43You made everything just seem very effortless.
01:14:46Your small notes were beautiful and clear and crisp.
01:14:50You kept things small, and then it grew,
01:14:51and by the end of it, you were just soaring.
01:14:53You are a really talented vocalist.

01:15:59Ah!
01:16:00Hey, guys.
01:16:01Hi.
01:16:02How are y'all?
01:16:03We're doing great.
01:16:04How are you guys?
01:16:05We're so happy to see you.
01:16:07We're happy to be here.
01:16:09One, two, one, two, three, four.
01:16:15My name is Julian Kalel Almanzan.
01:16:17I'm from El Paso, Texas, and I'm 19 years old.
01:16:22Last year at Audition, I had no idea what to expect.
01:16:26Obviously, I was terrified.
01:16:28When I talk about it with my sister, we both say that we kind of just blacked out and gave
01:16:34a performance of our lives, I guess.
01:16:38There's a hole in my chest.
01:16:43Knock me down, lay me to rest.
01:16:48Drown my thoughts with kerosene.
01:16:51I performed an original song called Surrender, which talks about the struggles of anxiety
01:16:56and depression.
01:16:57So I surrender.
01:16:59If his world did I have waged, I'll raise a flag.
01:17:04My fate is in his hands.
01:17:05I felt like I was at your show just now.
01:17:08Are you serious?
01:17:09Yeah, I did.
01:17:10Wow.
01:17:10It played like a record.
01:17:12Just a star.
01:17:13He's a star.
01:17:14Just a straight up, straight up star.
01:17:18I'll be gone without a sound when my heart fails me and I'm not around.
01:17:22Yes.
01:17:23Yes.
01:17:27The things that the judges told me, I felt like my life was changing in that moment.
01:17:33He may win this thing.
01:17:35He literally might win it.
01:17:38It was one of the greatest moments of my life.
01:17:41Oh, I surrender.
01:17:42I'm going to Hollywood.
01:17:48Unfortunately, though, I was not able to continue forward.
01:17:52There were shared concerns about my abilities to balance a journey like American Idol and
01:17:59my mental health.
01:18:03I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my freshman year of high school, but I'd been
01:18:08struggling with those feelings for a big part of my life.
01:18:12I mean, through even elementary and middle school.
01:18:15He came up to us and said, I am not okay.
01:18:18There's something happening with me.
01:18:20I mean, it's a knife to your chest because you're thinking, you know, what's going on?
01:18:26What's happening?
01:18:27And he said, I'm sad all the time.
01:18:32For me, anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown.
01:18:41I was pushing the value of my life.
01:18:45You have to look in the mirror and recognize that mental health professionals need to get
01:18:51involved and that there's no shame in that.
01:19:00Music is my lifeline.
01:19:03And it's what keeps me grounded.
01:19:06I had so much to smile about with my audition.
01:19:09Oh, wow.
01:19:09Oh, wow.
01:19:09And I just knew, like, I really regret it if I didn't give this another shot.
01:19:13I'm just hoping that whatever I'm doing just reflects the message of just not giving up.
01:19:19And most importantly, to not be defined by your struggles, but by your strengths.
01:19:25I choke up just thinking about it because I'm very lucky to be here.
01:19:29You know, life is a gift.
01:19:32For you to come back out here to try this, we are very happy and proud of you.
01:19:37We are so happy to be here.
01:19:39Thank you so much.
01:19:39So what are you going to do for us?
01:19:41The song today is called Long Guitar.
01:19:43I wrote it at a very dark time in my life where I was at a crossroads of deciding whether
01:19:48or not to give up or to keep going.
01:19:50Huh.
01:19:50And found that, you know, it's as simple as just stay one more day.
01:19:55That's the message.
01:19:57It's been rough.
01:19:58We've had some rough years.
01:20:00And this song in particular, it's suicide prevention, basically.
01:20:13What do you see when you look at me?
01:20:18The blessings that I'm letting go, Lord, you forgive so easily.
01:20:23It's getting harder to find peace.
01:20:28Get the chance to grow old, but I'm not the man that I should.
01:20:34Never felt travel, hailing by every night.
01:20:38Too far gone for prayer.
01:20:40Just a boy afraid to die.
01:20:48Oh, heartache, stare, words unspoken, the burden of my flaws.
01:20:53An empty chair, a family broken.
01:20:56Pain is all I cause.
01:20:58I should stay.
01:21:00I should stay.
01:21:03You walk in daydreams, thoughts unholy.
01:21:06Be damn near giving up.
01:21:08Hug your mama till there's just enough.
01:21:11To see that old sun rise.
01:21:15Mmm.
01:21:17I should stay.
01:21:20I should stay.
01:21:22Oh, I stitch bones and learn to love these marks along the way.
01:21:28Oh, I should stay.
01:21:29Lord, let me stay.
01:21:33I got too much to give.
01:21:35Oh, God, I love you.
01:21:37So say, don't want to make my old man cry.
01:21:40Leave my mama screaming, why?
01:21:43Guess I'm in this bleeding heart.
01:21:46Lighthead in my way.
01:21:49To the boy alone in the suffering.
01:21:52Thinking no one understands.
01:21:54If it's strength that you need.
01:21:57You don't have to be a man.
01:22:06Awesome.
01:22:08Ronald, what you think?
01:22:09Welcome back.
01:22:11Welcome back.
01:22:12I'm going to leave you with some words that I keep repeating over and over again,
01:22:17and I'm going to pass it on to you.
01:22:19You were born enough.
01:22:20I haven't seen too many years.
01:22:22Come on, William.
01:22:23Come on.
01:22:25But I have feared and I have loved.
01:22:28Everything about you is just honest,
01:22:30and you organize your thoughts and your feelings into song
01:22:34in a way that comes across so real.
01:22:39That is something that's needed.
01:22:41Very much.
01:22:42Yeah, man, you got the magic.
01:22:44Ha.
01:22:51I think that you're incredible.
01:22:53I think you have all the skills and tools of a great singer.
01:22:56So glad you're back,
01:22:57and we'll just have fun with this thing.
01:22:59How about that?
01:23:00Absolutely.

01:23:09It's a yes for me.
01:23:11Yes for me?
01:23:12Yes for me.

01:23:37I want to spread my message.
01:23:39You are loved, and everyone is born enough.
01:23:42Everyone is, in fact, born enough.
01:23:50You're one of my absolute favorites.
01:23:53God bless you with an instrument.
01:23:55The first time I've had full body chills the whole time.
