“Hot Milk” starts with a strange illness and the kind of travel plan that screams “sure, this will fix everything.” Rose brings her daughter Sofia to a Spanish coastal town to meet a mysterious healer. On paper, it’s a cure story. In practice, it turns into a pressure cooker.

While Rose keeps the dominant mother routine locked in, Sofia slips into an affair with a seductive stranger. That’s the twist. The therapy trip becomes a test of control, loyalty, and how much freedom a fragile relationship can handle before it snaps.

The film has that messy, uneasy energy where nothing feels purely helpful. It’s not exactly comforting. More like: salt air, secrets, and a mother-daughter bond slowly tightening until you can’t tell if it’s love or leverage.

„Hot Milk“ wirkt erst wie Wellness mit Salzwind. Rose und ihre Tochter Sofia fahren an die spanische Küste, weil irgend so ein „Heiler“ angeblich eine Lösung für eine seltsame Krankheit hat. Klar. Auf die sanfte Frage nach dem Wunder folgt dann die weniger sanfte Realität: Sofia legt sich mit einer verführerischen Fremden ein, während Roses dominanter Einfluss im Hintergrund weiter schnürt.

Das Drama ist nicht geschniegelt. Es ist eher diese unangenehme Spannung, wenn man merkt, dass jeder Schritt weg vom Problem gleichzeitig näher an die nächste Eskalation führt. Und ja, die Mutter-Tochter-Dynamik wird dabei so zäh wie „Heiltrank nach Rezept“. Es gibt Momente, die man nicht vergessen will. Und ein paar, die man am liebsten vorher abbricht.
