00:00:00What a great goal!
00:00:02Oh, what a goal!
00:00:04Oh, look at the action!
00:00:06Oh, pretty good!
00:00:08Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30MUSIC
00:00:50Evening, the Premier League is back and Match of the Day is back.
00:00:54Now, you may have seen and heard that there is a big change
00:00:57to the show this season, and that is,
00:01:00Wayne Rooney has joined us as a regular pundit.
00:01:03Some things don't change, though.
00:01:05Alan is still here.
00:01:06And he is absolutely delighted.
00:01:08The Sunderlander first stop, back in the top flight
00:01:11and at home to West Ham with Guy Mowbray.
00:01:15Eight years, three different sets of owners
00:01:18and ten changes of manager.
00:01:20A lot has happened since the last Premier League game on Wearside.
00:01:25And a lot's happened this summer.
00:01:27Ten new players signed and counting,
00:01:29with seven making their Sunderland debuts here today.
00:01:32Amongst them, goalkeeper Robin Rufs, record signing Habib Diara,
00:01:36and new club captain Granit Xhaka,
00:01:38back on these shores after two years at Bayer Leverkusen.
00:01:42West Ham, well, they're kicking off a 14th top flight season in a row,
00:01:46and do so with two new arrivals in their team.
00:01:49Keeper Mads Hermanson brought in from Leicester
00:01:52and Senegalese wing-back Elhaj Malik Jouf,
00:01:55whose pre-season performances promise a big season ahead.
00:02:01Before the start, a moment to pay tribute to Diogo Jota
00:02:04and his brother Andre Silva, taken too soon.
00:02:08And here's Gerard Bowen, getting the ball under his spell,
00:02:24and getting away from the challenge, and he might get a shot in two, he does.
00:02:28West Ham's first corner, Robin Ruf's first save for Sunderland.
00:02:33And Gerard Bowen looking sharp from the off.
00:02:38He'd struggle to find a better atmosphere anywhere in the world this weekend
00:02:42than the Sunderland Stadium of Light.
00:02:47Diara in on goal!
00:02:50Really strong hand from Hermanson,
00:02:52really good start to the game attacking-wise from both sets of players.
00:02:56Both goalkeepers in business.
00:03:01It's only Graham Potter's 20th game as West Ham boss,
00:03:04never really got going last season,
00:03:06and now he's had a whole summer to work on his style of play,
00:03:09getting used to the players, they getting used to him.
00:03:13Bowen, playing it across to Falkrog, there's Jouf!
00:03:19Saved by Rufs with help from Ballard.
00:03:21Lovely take and turn from Gerard Bowen, the touch from Falkrog,
00:03:26pretty good too, and Jouf thought he scored.
00:03:28I don't think Rufs was getting there, good job Ballard did.
00:03:33The last three meetings of the teams here have been drawn,
00:03:36the last couple both 2-2.
00:03:39Pull back, beat the hands of the keeper Hermanson,
00:03:42but it beats the post on the follow-up from Adingra.
00:03:47Looks a pretty presentable chance,
00:03:48it's a really well-timed run by Mayenda.
00:03:52Does really well to get there.
00:03:54And Adingra, well, it was sort of a half attempt to control the ball,
00:03:58and then a belated thought about putting it in the bottom corner.
00:04:01Regis Labris will be thinking his team have done pretty much OK to this point.
00:04:10Adingra, Diara, shoot is the cry, Diara might now.
00:04:15Oh, it's looked likely to be too high.
00:04:20And having only done it once or twice in the first half,
00:04:23now on a more regular basis, Sunderland are threatening the West Ham penalty area.
00:04:32Past the hour, and Sunderland starting to get themselves on top.
00:04:40Alderete, that's down for the corner and it's in!
00:04:47Mayenda with the Sunderland breakthrough!
00:04:53Have a listen to that!
00:04:59Scorer of the goal at Wembley,
00:05:05that kept Sunderland's hopes of a Premier League return alive.
00:05:10Now in his 50th game for the club,
00:05:14he scores the first goal of that return.
00:05:17Sunderland 1, West Ham 0.
00:05:21Paquetรก, oh, Adingra will get there before Tadebo could.
00:05:31And then he turns and tries to take on Tadebo for pace,
00:05:37and wins a corner.
00:05:38And it looks as though the winger signed from Brighton has got the message.
00:05:45You play to this crowd, boy will they play for you.
00:05:47Hermansen's coming for it, and gets to it.
00:05:56Reinhildo, uses the space, now uses a dingra.
00:06:08That's pretty handy, that's 2-0!
00:06:10That's Ballard!
00:06:11That might be three points!
00:06:13What a cross!
00:06:14What a header!
00:06:15What a return to the Premier League!
00:06:16This is turning out to be for Sunderland.
00:06:19Reinhildo played his part, saw some space, moved into it.
00:06:20Look at that for a ball in!
00:06:22The Sunderland fans with longer memories, you're going back to the 90s.
00:06:25That's Nicky Somerby for Niall Quinn.
00:06:26Sunderland 2, West Ham 0.
00:06:27Sunderland 2, West Ham 0.
00:06:28What a return to the Premier League, this is turning out to be for Sunderland.
00:06:32Reinhildo played his part, saw some space, moved into it.
00:06:36Look at that for a ball in!
00:06:39The Sunderland fans with longer memories, you're going back to the 90s.
00:06:43That's Nicky Somerby for Niall Quinn.
00:06:46Sunderland 2, West Ham 0.
00:06:491-0.
00:06:56Wilson.
00:07:01Fouled by Hume.
00:07:04Ryan Potter, Bruno and Billy Reid working out when to play the next card
00:07:09and what that card should be.
00:07:13Rufs tipped it over the bar.
00:07:15Winning plenty of admirers on debut.
00:07:22Would have been an own goal, but for Rufs free actions.
00:07:27Pack it up.
00:07:31Wan-Bissaka, and it's deflected behind.
00:07:34West Ham corner.
00:07:38There will be at least seven more minutes to play.
00:07:41Who will just raise a few eyebrows and appeal hugely to West Ham fans as Rufs spills the ball?
00:07:49No foul though.
00:07:53And another corner one.
00:07:55Well, if they get one in now, just hold onto your hats.
00:07:57Going for the long ball in, Alderete got his head to it, now it's Talbi.
00:08:10Talbi up to Isidor, who was all on his own.
00:08:14Isidor?
00:08:16All over now.
00:08:18All smiles Sunderland.
00:08:20A goal brilliantly finished.
00:08:22To finish this off as any sort of contest.
00:08:24West Ham were a tired looking bunch there.
00:08:25How on earth did Wilson Isidor find himself with all that room?
00:08:26And it just dipped at the right time to deceive Mads Hermanson.
00:08:38A winning return to the Premier League, and then some for Sunderland.
00:08:39It'll be a good night on Wearside.
00:08:40It's an incredible start to the season for Sunderland.
00:08:41They've waited a long time for Sunderland.
00:08:42They've waited eight long years for this day.
00:08:43The fans are just waiting for the same time to win.
00:08:45And win.
00:08:46And, how on earth did Wilson Isidor find himself with all that room?
00:08:49And it just dipped at the right time to deceive Mads Hermanson.
00:08:53A winning return to the Premier League, and then some for Sunderland.
00:09:00It'll be a good night on Wearside.
00:09:03It's an incredible start to the season for Sunderland.
00:09:07They've waited eight long years for this day.
00:09:09for this day the fans will have come here today hoping dreaming maybe not even fully believing
00:09:19they certainly didn't think it would go this well
00:09:23goals for mayenda ballard and isidore three who've come with them on the journey up from the
00:09:31championship if this is how it's going to be here all season it's going to be one to remember for
00:09:37sunderland fans sunderland three west ham nil happy for for the club happy for the the organization
00:09:48happy for the players and the people for our fans because uh this comeback in the premier league
00:09:54with this connection we had in our stands today it's really impressive debuts for eight players
00:10:00today does it make it a little bit more special though that your three goal scorers were all
00:10:05players who helped you gain promotion last season yeah it's important it's important first of all
00:10:10because um they showed that they can step up we want to to keep the same strength we used last season to
00:10:17to get promoted this togetherness the way we defend together this intensity in our game and these players
00:10:25i think have this strength inside the first goals are always important in the game and we and we we
00:10:31played you know a decent away performance in the first half uh but it it's not too much comfort at
00:10:38the moment because second half wasn't good enough there wasn't too much in the game it was a fine
00:10:43margins game at the same time the scoreline reflects poorly on us and we have to accept that it's the
00:10:47first game of the season um you know the season's not won or lost in you know the first game there's
00:10:51still 37 games left to go but we know we have to be better um and we have to change that my feel was just
00:10:58we have to win the first game to be confident for the rest of the season and we did it very well
00:11:02today so that's it and we need to keep going that it does um that intensity uh well i mean great start
00:11:10for sunderland a lot of people a lot of pundits have praised their transfer window business as they've
00:11:16brought you know players into double figures into the squad but the proof was always going to be whether
00:11:21they could gel now i know it's early days but the signs are quite good yeah i think the signs were
00:11:26were excellent i think they've obviously had a lot of players making their debut today and
00:11:31but i think the organization of how they play they played the exact same way this last season and
00:11:36and obviously managed to get promotion and so i know first hand of coming up games i actually
00:11:40got one of my only wins that season get that in early well done yeah but no i think if you see here
00:11:45tiara was a huge threat all game and it's run forward there's energy there's a lot of energy about
00:11:51sunderland in general all afternoon but you see in the second half they put the wide players a little
00:11:58bit wider created a little bit more bit more space in the midfield and for sunderland to go and attack
00:12:03west ham and west ham struggled to deal with it and then we see here runs in behind should put the
00:12:09ball in the box a little bit earlier it can but he gets it in it's a good chance and probably should do
00:12:14better and to take the lead but then this one here again west ham's defense getting spread to youth
00:12:21getting forced out to the ball oh god having to focus on the player out wide and then again we see
00:12:29here runs in behind a big gap in the middle of the west ham defense um always a threat runs in behind
00:12:36and then if he makes the right decision here and rolls it across they get a tap in so he makes the wrong
00:12:41decision but to get a corner from it and then as you see here is the door making a huge a great run
00:12:49long run in the last minute i think it was like the second minute of the game sunderland sat in and
00:12:55and soaked up a lot of pressure but kept that energy and a great substitution from the manager
00:13:00third goal of the game seized the game off and a fantastic star for sunderland on the opening day
00:13:05a promoter side didn't win until the 5th of october last season it generally do you think that is a
00:13:11blueprint that can work sit deep and counter-attack i think it has to be i think we've seen last season
00:13:16with um the promoter teams coming up and we've seen it with burnley in particular under vinter company
00:13:22and teams coming into the premier league and trying to play and and be expansive and you just can't do
00:13:27that the gap in from championship to premier league is massive and i think the way sunderland played today
00:13:32shows that you can get results in this league if you're organized you work hard and you stick
00:13:35together as a team labrice highlighted the importance of those players who got them up
00:13:39last season which we saw with the goal scorers all three goal scorers vitally important to them last
00:13:44season yeah they was and i think you know so many new players but the players who there helped them get
00:13:49into the premier league last season had a huge impact in the in the game this afternoon and i think if you
00:13:54look here may and that he stays he occupies the defense stays in the middle of the of the goal which is
00:13:59really important and the cross it's a good cross but it's a he's got no right to score there and i
00:14:05think just pure determination willing to put his head on the end of the ball gets a good contact good
00:14:10header and a well-deserved goal to put them one nil up and then i think dan ballard i think i thought
00:14:16he was fantastic last season for someone but carried it on today in the the first game of the season
00:14:21as you see here his goalkeeper is in trouble it's a real big chance for west hand but he gets back helps
00:14:27his goalkeeper out and makes a fantastic clearance off the of the land which prevents west ham from
00:14:32going one nil up but then we see here he can he can do it in both boxes we see them do this last
00:14:37season to get sunderland in the into the final of the playoffs um stays up great crossing and a
00:14:44fantastic right head of that isn't it um so in the in the pre-programmed meeting you you were quite
00:14:51keen to talk west ham rather than sunderland so if you were uh if you were a west ham fan would how
00:14:57concerned would you be this evening yeah i would be i mean that's um graham potter's biggest defeat
00:15:01as west ham manager they haven't replaced kudos two new players in the starting lineup today calum
00:15:08wilson came on but bowen was the main threat particularly in the first half but the second
00:15:14half would be the one to worry about because once they conceded that first goal they just folded like a
00:15:18pack there was no spark there was no spark no energy and there certainly was no reaction
00:15:23at all and that would be the worrying thing already uh right pep guardiola began his 10th season in
00:15:29charge of manchester city with a visit to wolves at molyneux for this one steve back
00:15:36after finishing outside the top two for only the second time in his managerial career
00:15:40pep guardiola begins his challenge of relighting manchester city's fire he'll do it today without edison
00:15:47who's not in the squad due to illness so james trafford re-signed from burnley in the summer
00:15:52finally plays for the club there are debuts for eight nori against his former teammates
00:15:57and reinders wolves have lost their opening day fixture in each of the last four seasons
00:16:03and have lost the likes of kunja and sarabia this summer only one new face starts that's the
00:16:08norwegian david muller wolfer fer lopez and john arias are both substitutes
00:16:17well prior to kickoff wolves will pay their own special tribute to their former hero
00:16:23there go jota and his brother andre silva the south bank full of color and after a rendition of a field
00:16:30of gold of gold jota's favorite song follows a minute applause
00:16:45he knows it was the lowest points tally in his city tenure last season
00:16:49but they did finish strongly no team took more points than city in the last 10 premier league games
00:16:54in from bernardo silva
00:17:00and knowing harland it was who made contact
00:17:04and was frustrated it wasn't better contact
00:17:08it looked more shoulder than head first sighting it was
00:17:14well we've reached the 18th minute
00:17:15and there go jota's old shirt number number 18 that he used to wear in wolves goal
00:17:21and that brings warm applause all around the stadium
00:17:32bernardo silva got goal side of doherty harland
00:17:39just felt he was always stretching a touch
00:17:42he was hanging in the air just couldn't get the purchase on it
00:17:50agbado
00:17:56doherty fouled by docker quickly taken by the irishman
00:18:01belgaard
00:18:03belgaard
00:18:04kubber's first hand 11
00:18:06strand larsen came in diaz with an excellent block
00:18:10he looked sharp strand larsen
00:18:13free header
00:18:15offside
00:18:16marshall maness's joyous short lift
00:18:20because mark perry's flag is up again
00:18:22yeah it's not a close one and he didn't need to be really
00:18:30they're certainly looking to improve their form
00:18:33that marlon knew
00:18:35only the bottom three had a worse home record last season
00:18:38and trying to feed rico lewis harlem waiting
00:18:52and erling harland scoring
00:18:59a ninth career goal against wolves and manchester city are in front
00:19:05the 125th city goal
00:19:12and the new boy rain has played a huge part in in here
00:19:16lovely little ball to lewis and he put it on a plate for harland
00:19:22they're the ones he dreams of walls nil manchester city one
00:19:28earning harland scoring with his first touch of the ball
00:19:32in almost 15 minutes in the game
00:19:35and that was too much for andre and wolves are in trouble here oscar bob
00:19:41reinders can he get there he can and he can finish beautifully
00:19:47a debut goal for the dutchman in city blue
00:19:54a career best 16 goals for milan last season
00:19:57and here's first for manchester city gives them a two nil advantage two goals in less than four
00:20:07minutes now suddenly lit up the game for manchester city
00:20:12no changes from either side at half time
00:20:19and the hosts alter the scoreline that's for hoover to chase
00:20:25that's a useful ball strand larsen
00:20:27what a start to the second half that would have been for the hosts
00:20:34stran larsen just couldn't quite get the angle
00:20:51nicely taken again we write this
00:20:53he's got it back from oscar barb harland's waiting
00:20:59erling harland
00:21:01emphatic
00:21:02and that combination again
00:21:13tijani reinders involved in two goals has scored the other harland at the double
00:21:19goal with that sweeping finish past jose sard
00:21:27three nil manchester city
00:21:31and that now means that erling harlem has scored more premier league goals against wolves
00:21:35than any other opponent he's into double figures on ten they're sick of the sight of him
00:21:41reinders he's gone for the return from oscar barb
00:21:51in the penalty area at that moment it's picked up by marmous
00:22:03turkey oh it's a debut goal for him as well
00:22:06he's only been on the pitch just over seven minutes a day ahead of his 22nd birthday
00:22:16and he makes it four nil
00:22:20to dream entrance for the french international
00:22:24and the new look manchester city lead wolves by four goals to nil
00:22:29and wolves are heading for their heaviest defeat under vito pereira
00:22:41does it get much better than that with new players away from home clean sheet
00:22:45in terms of result yeah in terms of 15 seats first half was really good second half was
00:22:50not not good but it's normal in this part of the season how to improve we did things well done in my
00:22:57opinion we played with brave we we didn't went in the game just to defense because i don't believe in this kind of game
00:23:05every time we committed a mistake they scored very happy with assist and a goal and a very good win
00:23:10that's first of all it's a great start and yeah we have to keep going now also czechie coming off
00:23:16the bench with a goal as well there's a new energy about this manchester city team yeah i think
00:23:20you can see everyone in the team it's has so many qualities and even if you you start on a
00:23:25bench and come in the come in the pitch you can bring uh new things and yeah that's a good thing
00:23:30of our team well if he continues this season like he did today we're gonna have some fun watching him
00:23:36aren't we he was off the scale he was absolutely sensational it was almost the perfect midfield
00:23:41performance and for his first league game to stand out like he did today it was an incredible game from
00:23:48from him um i mean everything that he did whether whether it was reading the game whether he was
00:23:55particularly impressive with actually running with and without the ball there that's this is a great
00:24:01example of it there when you've got that much space and the way he just glides past the two players and
00:24:06the way to pass into rico lewis that isn't a bad pass either by the way into erling harling for a simple
00:24:12tapping but he controlled the game at his pace i said about running without the ball this is what i
00:24:17mean he's run 50 or 60 yards to get onto that then he doesn't let anyone down with a really cool finish
00:24:24he's aware of everything around him the space but again look he passes the ball but look what he does
00:24:29an absolute nightmare to play against because someone that's always on the move and great at timing
00:24:35those runs for the opposition is very very difficult what about this touch and again running with the
00:24:42ball people keeping up with him obviously but the way he gets in behind but then the vision and the
00:24:48way to pass again to put that into uh into erl and harlem's pack to run onto it and to hit it finding the
00:24:54space again on the understanding with another new boy jerky but then he plays that ball and if it wasn't for
00:25:01the little little touch here of marmouche he's actually in again and again running from inside
00:25:06his own half to get into that uh into that position so 46 million very very impressive start from him
00:25:13and from manchester the city you can see how much he stood out where with all the all those stats there
00:25:19he really was impressive as we saw earlier sarah midfielder of the year and he got 15 goals in
00:25:24all the season last season is it you don't want to go overboard too early do you but is he the kevin
00:25:30to burn a shaped hole is that what he's going to fill yeah well it looks like certainly looks like
00:25:35on today's performance and i think what really impressed me with man said today was the energy
00:25:40they play with i think the the last season there was question marks about the energy and what they
00:25:45had in the team but i think today they had some really good young players and and really outworked
00:25:49wolves in throughout the game he was a key part of that i mentioned it a few times in the analysis run
00:25:55there the way he ran with them without the ball and when you're up against that it's it's difficult
00:26:01to keep up they kept on going and going and they just didn't have an answer for it very quickly do
00:26:05you think that's a new philosophy then in that guardiola team that that ball carry because we
00:26:09talk about systems and knocking it and i know grealish would run with the ball from a slightly different
00:26:14position you have to play it is that a different is that a different sign you're saying from him it is in
00:26:19that particular team yeah because when when someone's got that ability to do that you have
00:26:23to let them free to do it and he was brilliant at it today they couldn't cope with him right thomas
00:26:28frank's first league game in charge of tottenham was at home to a burnley side you considered just 16
00:26:33goals in the hole of last season's promotion winning campaign jonathan pierce is your commentator
00:26:39a new home for one head coach a home coming for the other thomas frank might not be aware that none of
00:26:44spurs last eight managers have lost their first league game in charge scott parker is only
00:26:49too aware of everything tottenham he spent two years as a spurs player 55 million pounds summer
00:26:55signing mohammed kudos makes his tottenham league debut as they make three changes from the super cup
00:27:00in come gray bergval and johnson carl walker returns to the club where he played 229 matches
00:27:06there are also first league games at the promoted side for dubravka and hartman
00:27:12and the referee michael oliver gets the tottenham hotspur stadium season underway spurs
00:27:19in the lily white and the blue kicking from right to left on an absolutely immaculate looking
00:27:25playing field and the first attack is repelled by carl walker's glancing header can they get the
00:27:31cross back in here spurs to the back post bergval was in there danger straight away
00:27:36as good as he started on the right hand side bergval again good start by dubravka bright start by spurs
00:27:43bergval got a yard of space and dubravka spread himself well
00:27:50he had a terrific spell here scott parker very influential on the field and in the dressing room
00:27:55and probably had his best england spell while he was a spurs player decent cross in the middle
00:28:02looking for a charleson and a fine confident take again by dubravka and so that can goalkeeper
00:28:14very experienced keeper nearing 450 league games he's held the ball longer than eight seconds
00:28:20and that's the first time this season that that decision has been given at premier league level i
00:28:27think he held the ball longer than eight seconds and therefore it's a corner kick for spurs
00:28:33glancing in by kudos away there by hartman and his new left back
00:28:44gonna sweeps it high towards romero johnson
00:28:48burnley can't get out at the moment spence it's all tottenham early on
00:28:53tottenham right for kudos and tied it up at the back by maxime esterve
00:29:08kudos again
00:29:11challenge came in by cullen the burnley captain is with charles and half a chance spurs lead
00:29:171-0 it's been coming since kickoff
00:29:19and tottenham have their first goal of the season inside 10 minutes
00:29:26far too much room for richarlison worked hard for 72 minutes and the super cup in the week
00:29:34and his positional sense paid off here burnley aren't tight enough he just drifted away
00:29:39an extra yard to get away from walker in the middle and ectel i think it was
00:29:44good finish tottenham league burnley 1-0
00:29:53poor ball by romero he hasn't had a good half so backtracks he's josh laurent
00:29:59and now walker up into attack too much weight on the ball porra has taken a real chance there
00:30:05there is some contact between the players say the var but the ball's way away from the coming together
00:30:13josh laurent cuts it around the corner gray is well positioned spins the pass
00:30:25johnson pulls it back richarlison it's blocked in there richarlison again just squeezed somehow white
00:30:31kudus follows up it's a dangerous cross dart into that far post area richarlison so nearly had a second
00:30:42there they are confirming that hit the chest of maximus dev almost low down by his side no penalty then
00:30:50and then dubravka's left foot denied richarlison
00:30:53cullen bends it forward song got a touch is laurent with a little pullback foster can he get a shot away
00:31:05on the turn anthony might that's the closest burn they've come to score
00:31:15wide open opportunity for burnley to get back into the game
00:31:17here's daniel levy
00:31:24oft criticised chairman of tottenham hotspur their net spend over the last three seasons by the way is
00:31:30384.7 million and he's backed his managers
00:31:39porra
00:31:39and he's done well again kudus with the cross and it's a brilliant effort and a sensational goal by
00:31:49richarlison
00:31:51his second of the game totonham's second of the game which might make it safe you never know with spurs
00:31:57but what i can tell you is you'll have to go a long way to find a better goal in coming months than that
00:32:03one brilliant finish you never quite know what his future will be at spurs
00:32:10and i'll tell you what for the immediate he has the hearts of everyone here
00:32:18it could be richarlison who goes away for the opening day with a match ball if he gets another
00:32:23he did well there to bring inside took a nut richarlison as well here's johnson in on goal
00:32:27takes it wide plots it in spurs have a third game set a match
00:32:33richarlison has two and he played a major role in that right at the start of the move
00:32:40it's being checked here for a possible foul right at the start of the move
00:32:43richarlison holding it up against hectare there's no foul there whatsoever
00:32:48and then sar finds brennan johnson and brennan johnson finds the back of the net oh neatly played
00:32:57outside of the boot that's a good finish and that'll do brennan johnson the world of good as well
00:33:07that's a good challenge on him by bentan curse first pick it up now spence
00:33:11what was on the outside saw now
00:33:18spence always done brilliantly goes for the near post parried away
00:33:23could have looked disappointed in the middle he thought the ball might be pulled back to him by
00:33:26jed spence so lanky was at the far post as well he got brilliantly there to put shauna onto the seat
00:33:32of his pants not going to beat the goalkeeper from that angle
00:33:35been last and here for bernie into the dying seconds of stoppage time
00:33:46comes to the far post no one could get a touch on it
00:33:50and they'll have to wait for their first goal back in the premier league bernie thomas frank celebrates
00:33:54his first league game in charge of spurs with a win a ninth successive top of manager to go undefeated
00:34:01in their first game good win for top of hotspot bernie won't despair because for nearly an hour
00:34:06they were in the game but in the end it's top them who win it three now very happy um first game of
00:34:14season is always important uh a clear three-nil win um and it's never easy to win uh so i really
00:34:24appreciate it um i think it was a lot of good stuff in it um a clean sheet can't highlight that enough i
00:34:30think that's key i thought we started the game um very tentative they they come out the blocks and
00:34:35i thought we edged that way in the first half and then the ruthlessness of the premier league
00:34:39richardson obviously puts one away so um overall real a lot of positives today for us to be honest
00:34:45with you um and yeah um something certainly to work on for us are you aware that spurs fans love wingers
00:34:52they love wide players they really seem to take you to their hearts um yeah i try to be different and
00:34:59it's part of my game getting the ball checking players on and creating so i'm glad that i'm in
00:35:05a team where i can do that freely also with the help with the teammates i like to enjoy the game
00:35:10entertain the fans because i believe that's what the game is about you know but at the same time also
00:35:14play with seriousness to all the team to get the points and i'm glad that happened today the medical
00:35:18department and the performance department worked extremely hard uh to get him into a good place and
00:35:23we're still looking after him his performance all two fantastic goals and the last goal i think was
00:35:28actually as my analysis department told me 17 passes everyone in the team touched the goal and
00:35:34then finished with an unbelievable finish is fantastic maybe jonathan giving current players a history lesson
00:35:40about their clubs could become a theme over the over the course of this season um what impressed you
00:35:44most about spurs today how direct they were they weren't afraid to play that long pass into the forward
00:35:50uh but particularly the number of crosses they got into the into the box and this was after about 90
00:35:56seconds no other thought and get the ball into the box there's one no other thought than cross the
00:36:02ball into the box there's two after a minute and a half same thing again exactly the same move the ball
00:36:09get the ball into the box and that is a good save from de brevda so that is showing their intentions of what
00:36:14what they do kudos okay josh cullen should do a lot better he's got to work harder to stop the cross but
00:36:20one thing again is you move the ball like that whip it in and that is such a clever finish from
00:36:25richarlison running away from the goal and the technique i mentioned the direct passes if you're
00:36:31going to leave yourself that open with that amount of space to play the ball through like burnley did
00:36:36against good players then you're going to get punished really good hold-up play from richarlison
00:36:43then you go out to the other side and you find yourself in a really dangerous position again
00:36:47keeper played the first one now the defender plays the second one there's that position again
00:36:52they're open again they've got no protection really in front of that back five bergval running off the
00:36:58ball as you have to do two wingers giving you the width that you uh that you need and i mentioned
00:37:03balls into the box move the ball quickly and whip it in no other thought than that that is just
00:37:08sensational it really is it's an incredible finish same thing again open no protection that long
00:37:15ball into the forward again good hold-up play again runners off the ball johnson in behind
00:37:21it's a really well worked goal from from topman but it's because they're thinking directly
00:37:27solanke comes on for richarlison nothing changes cross into the box he's unlucky not to get his goal
00:37:34as well so and what they also did is they adapted they worked really well they played five at the back
00:37:38in midweek against a really good team they changed it today they played four at the back today and it
00:37:44worked for them perfectly burnley had their moments but he'll be really really pleased with
00:37:49the performance his team has put into it and the players he changed around i think what is also key
00:37:54is is that if they can keep richarlison fit because that's been a problem of of theirs for a while now
00:37:59if they can keep him fit and it's a big if he'll put in performances like that particularly if they're
00:38:04that direct well if they if they could keep him fit they're also looking to add to the squad and this
00:38:09will be good news for spurs fans the bbc sport website are reporting that the club will try to
00:38:14accelerate talks with crystal palace over the next 48 hours to sign eberica eze so you can read more
00:38:19about that on the bbc sport website as far as burnley are concerned so much praise for their defense we
00:38:25did that at the start but as scott parker said it's about being clinical as well and taking those chances
00:38:31when you have them yeah the premier league you have to be clinical and when you get chances
00:38:35um it's important that you take them and barely within the game at one nil barely had some some
00:38:39good some good moves some really good chances him and they weren't ruthless enough they weren't
00:38:44clinical enough and and they got punished so i think for for barely it's a difficult afternoon
00:38:49a tough staff them um or they did have the moment but if you're not going to be clinical then you're
00:38:53not going to get out of the game okay still to come these two are going to give their thoughts on
00:38:57alexander isak but there are three premier league games to look forward to on tomorrow's match of the day
00:39:05you can listen to live commentary of all three games on bbc sounds five lives premier league sunday

00:40:26now fulham achieved their record premier league points tally last season they began their new
00:40:31campaign at brighton and simon brotherton watch this
00:40:36carlos boliba is fit and starts in the brighton midfield where the club are confident he'll stay
00:40:41maxim de kuyper makes his debut at left back after signing from club ruga and jorginio ruta spearheads
00:40:47the attack after missing the back end of last season fulham have a mostly familiar look after a
00:40:52quiet summer with anthony robinson and ryan sessignon both injured jorge cuenca comes in at the back
00:40:58josh king makes his second ever premier league start and raul jimenez leads the attack he scored the
00:41:03winner for mexico in the gold cup final against the united states last month
00:41:07this actually has been a tough fixture for brighton in recent seasons they've won only 10 of the 10
00:41:17premier league meetings against fulham which was the most recent one back in march
00:41:23the labor laws of approval from the stands mitoma late challenge by lukic on him but brighton with
00:41:37de kuyper the debutant first touch in the premier league for him the labor surging forward it's just
00:41:44gone out of play i think maybe not slammed home by yankuba mente but the flag went up straight away
00:41:55and here you could clearly see the ball had gone out of play
00:42:03well second season then for fabian herzler brighton's young head coach got brighton to
00:42:09eights last season and hopes will be high
00:42:15o'reilly finding mintek faced by cuenca
00:42:21looks promising for the home side matt o'reilly's delivery mitoma
00:42:28it's the best we've seen from brighton in the opening half an hour
00:42:32well worked measured attacking passage of play
00:42:35tete into wilson
00:42:43now josh king
00:42:47bit of room for alex iwobi finely crafted ball and king trying to squeeze it pass for brookin at the
00:42:53near post and brighton's goalkeeper finally gets his hands on the ball
00:43:00but it was almost an awkward moment there for the home side
00:43:08good ball de kuyper collected by ruta chased by burger jorginho ruta down
00:43:15brighton got a penalty joachim anderson and sander burger the two players chasing back trying to halt
00:43:22ruta's ruta's advance it was sander burger tangled with the brighton forward
00:43:30it's o'reilly against lenoch it's brighton's first goal of the new season
00:43:45matt o'reilly from 12 yards
00:43:47burger penalized referee sam barrett pointed to the spot and matt o'reilly fires brighton and hovalvian
00:43:58into the lead
00:44:02now with iwobi bassy continues his run forward challenged by beleba
00:44:07referee had a clear blue shakes his head goal kick
00:44:12bassy felt that he was fouled could see the referee had a pretty clear view of it from the edge of the penalty area
00:44:20on field decision has been rapidly backed up by the video assistant referee matt donahue
00:44:27it won't be decent ball in king tries to take it in his stride in turn
00:44:40challenged in the box and down and fulham look frustrated
00:44:44it will be checked for a possible penalty kick
00:44:48the latest incident has been checked and cleared
00:44:51challenged by yassin ayari on josh king just caught his heel as he went for the ball
00:45:06mitoma
00:45:09up against anderson can't find welbeck this is kearney
00:45:14interception made by ayari urged to shoot by the crown
00:45:24this is diego gomez oh that's a lucky moment there for leno
00:45:31brighton close to a second goal here straight at the keeper but almost over the line grateful grab at the second attempt
00:45:44look at lukic dispossessed
00:45:50gomez has it good running here brian gruda
00:45:56welbeck
00:45:59cool and survive
00:46:03this was not far away from 2-0 brian gruda right across the face of the goal
00:46:15deep in added time
00:46:18there's a chance for kenny teter
00:46:22what an opportunity for 1-1 right at the end of the game
00:46:28what a chance that was
00:46:33shouldn't just have to get the ball forward and they have to do it quickly
00:46:36smith rowe emil smith rowe just wide via a deflection it's a corner and fulham haven't given up hope yet
00:46:53last few seconds of added time far post 1-1 rodrigo muniz
00:46:57a stunning end to the match it's a goal from the brazilian super sub and it's 1-1 on the south coast
00:47:10a point apiece victory slips through brighton's hands
00:47:15rodrigo muniz late drama late goal brighton one full of one
00:47:20it feels painful but i think it's very important to detect the positive things the way we
00:47:27played a really good game we we defended um really good i think there was not a clear chance
00:47:32for fulham during the whole game we created a chance in the second half we could score we
00:47:37should score the second goal i think then the game will be over but yeah that's football we have
00:47:42to accept it it's painful it feels not great but we have to take the positive things away and
00:47:47focus on these things well it's very difficult to play here i think we we did control well the
00:47:53all the first half of course when they they score from from a penalty and kick game was much more
00:47:58open and they had some moments in contra-attacks and balls that we we lost we showed the spirit to
00:48:04fight until the last minute and we we were reward for that it's always when we come to to play here
00:48:10is the is difficult but like last season we scored a lot plus 10 minutes 15 minutes the game but
00:48:17yeah i'm happy rodrigo again it's not the first time he's not going to be the last for sure that
00:48:22had a massive impact in the in the way you want to play and scoring important goal for us well
00:48:27brighton obviously scored through a penalty fulham had a couple of claims themselves do you want
00:48:31to look at the more debatable one yeah i think i think it's a difficult one for the for the referee
00:48:38really i think fulham are obviously pushing and getting bodies in the box and the ball breaks and and
00:48:44josh king just gets there before the defender and from this angle you've definitely seen them
00:48:51giving i think that could definitely be a penalty but i think the reaction from the full and players
00:48:56around it you know it's not big enough they need to convince the referee that that's penalty i don't
00:49:00think they do that enough because i already does look like he kicks his foot so if you're in that
00:49:04situation as a teammate are you going back you want you are you are you up are you up yeah i just think
00:49:10it's not it's not big enough where they can overturn it i think i think i'd certainly be asking the
00:49:16question for the penalty if i was in that position don't think it's strong enough to overturn a couple
00:49:20of themes from that game that are quite similar to last season first of all fulham having substitutes
00:49:25scoring goals for them and helping them out but the other part from a brighton point of view is they're not
00:49:29closing games out well there since the start of last season they've led 11 times and they haven't
00:49:34won one game and that probably cost them a place in europe same thing happened again today they had
00:49:39one big chance from gruda to get that second goal they didn't and then they um it cost themselves in
00:49:45the last few minutes of the game so that has to change for them going forward uh right newcastle
00:49:49went to aston villa off the back of a summer dominated by the future of that man behind us alexander
00:49:55isak their thoughts on that to come first robin cowan at villa park
00:50:02a new season always brings fresh hope the bitter blow of falling short of champions league qualification
00:50:07on the final day of last season will be a distant memory for villa fans if they can start with a win
00:50:13against the side that pipped them to the post there's a debuting goal for marco bizot a summer edition
00:50:19from brest with emmy martinez suspended if it's been slow on the transfer front for villa
00:50:25newcastle have been at the center of the saga of the summer alexander isak is unavailable after a
00:50:30so far unsuccessful push for a move elsewhere anthony gordon starts as the number nine anthony
00:50:36elanga makes his debut after making the switch from nottingham forest
00:50:39here's thielemans trying to pick out watkins
00:50:53janali oh elanga will get on to this anthony elanga with an effort at goal
00:50:59that's a really smart stop from harvey barnes harvey barnes goes down craig paulson immediately waving the
00:51:10finger and gordon well a flurry of chances
00:51:19fell very nicely for elanga after a couple of villa players clashed with each other
00:51:22there was a really good save from the goalkeeper harvey barnes going down under the challenge of
00:51:30kamara the referee had a good view of that and then this effort from gordon deflected over by matty cash
00:51:39but unai emery has led aston villa to europe in all three seasons in charge
00:51:44another crack at the europa league this season competition he's won four times as head coach
00:51:52he's won four times as head coached with the cross over the top from gordon
00:52:11barnes found gordon beautifully here good movement as well not scored in the premier league since january
00:52:18anthony gordon
00:52:23alanga gimareich foul with dean preventing alanga from getting on to the return ball
00:52:40whipped in it's going to find gimareich unmarked wouldn't quite fall for barnes it's gordon
00:52:45a little slow to get to each one of these second balls gotta say it's not been a very fruitful
00:53:02pre-season along with the alexander isak saga with six pre-season friendlies four defeats two draws and
00:53:10quite a lot of anxiety
00:53:14villa failed to have an attempt on goal in the first 45 minutes
00:53:21tielemans now cash
00:53:26burns clearance straight out for a corner inside the first 40 seconds
00:53:31taken short
00:53:38taken short works to john mcginn drop of the shoulder
00:53:45header straight at nick pope
00:53:47nicely worked
00:53:52from bubikar kamara making good contact but directing it straight at the goalkeeper
00:53:57anana finds telemans quickly onto rogers watkins
00:54:06first real sight on goal straight at the goalkeeper that has given aston villa a little bit of encouragement rogers finding john mcginn
00:54:21he's going to be in the first 40 minutes
00:54:27cash
00:54:27and a pull back towards the penalty area this could prove costly anthony gordon in behind
00:54:37now esri concert he's going to be sent off he's gone surely
00:54:44decision confirmed i really don't see how we can have any complaints about that at all
00:54:48very strange decision
00:54:51by Esri Concert
00:54:53Concert off
00:54:55Villa down to 10
00:54:57and they hand the advantage
00:55:00to Newcastle United
00:55:01Jason Tindall sent off
00:55:05when they met Aston Villa
00:55:08at St James' Park on Boxing Day
00:55:09provoking a 20-man tunnel brawl
00:55:12and the Wham hoodie
00:55:13reportedly escalated
00:55:16the situation on that day
00:55:17Liberamento
00:55:22Anthony Gordon
00:55:26closest to it
00:55:27but not close in the end
00:55:30Guimaraish
00:55:35Gordon
00:55:42it's Barnes
00:55:48rustiness has been evident
00:55:54for both sides
00:55:56and the narrative is going to be that Newcastle lack a goal scorer
00:56:01they have one on their books in the building
00:56:03but not here
00:56:05will he still be with Newcastle at the end of the transfer window?
00:56:09I thought today we answered a few questions in terms of our spirit
00:56:12and our fight to show that we're still a force in the league
00:56:15and we can compete
00:56:16now it's only one game
00:56:18and we have to do that regularly and consistently
00:56:20like we always have done
00:56:21but we look forward to the challenges ahead
00:56:23after the red card of course
00:56:26we were a little bit more
00:56:27with the necessity to the fans
00:56:30and to be in the commitment we did
00:56:32but overall
00:56:34the most important is how we responded
00:56:36in all the issues
00:56:38that happened on the field
00:56:39so I am very proud of our work
00:56:42and I am not happy with one point only
00:56:44but I accepted
00:56:45I'm sure it's been an amazingly stressful summer for you already
00:56:47I mean how much do you want a resolution
00:56:49to the Alexander-Izac situation
00:56:51and also
00:56:51you know I guess the transfer window in general?
00:56:54Yeah I think from my perspective as manager of the team
00:56:56you want a resolution quickly
00:56:57because you don't want any distraction
00:56:58taking away the focus of the players
00:57:00taking away the focus of our supporters
00:57:02we want everyone
00:57:03helping the team as much as we can
00:57:06and we want to be united together
00:57:07so yeah we'd like a resolution
00:57:10but we're not in control of that
00:57:11so we'll see what happens in the coming days
00:57:13Well of course all the focus is on Newcastle
00:57:15at the moment
00:57:16and how they attack
00:57:18and Alexander-Izac
00:57:18before we get to him
00:57:20did that front three today give you encouragement?
00:57:23They certainly caused them problems
00:57:24and given the circumstances
00:57:27I think the performance from the front three
00:57:29and the rest of the team actually
00:57:31would give me encouragement going forward
00:57:33in the circumstances
00:57:34that through no fault of their own
00:57:36they're having to deal with
00:57:37I thought their attitude was excellent
00:57:39they look far fitter than Aston Villa
00:57:42stronger than Aston Villa
00:57:43and they certainly created more chances
00:57:45than Aston Villa
00:57:47but the big thing is
00:57:48they didn't take them
00:57:49but when you've got the pace
00:57:50that Newcastle have up top
00:57:52and when Gordon's having to play up front
00:57:54it was a great run
00:57:55which then creates the space
00:57:56for Alanga to run into
00:57:58very good ball from Tonali
00:57:59and he should score
00:58:01I think there's no doubt about that
00:58:03again they work it really well
00:58:05Bardens eventually gets the ball
00:58:07and whips a good ball in
00:58:08and Anthony Gordon
00:58:09finds himself in a good position
00:58:11he just can't direct the header there
00:58:14look he does whip a good ball in
00:58:16and again he should do better
00:58:19they're pressing I thought
00:58:20from every Newcastle player
00:58:22the energy that they showed was excellent
00:58:24similar thing again
00:58:25using his pace
00:58:27to get his shot away
00:58:27okay it doesn't work for them
00:58:30second half
00:58:31when you're going to go that tight
00:58:33and leave that much space
00:58:34with the pace that these two have got
00:58:35good ball in from Alanga
00:58:37and it's a clear red card
00:58:38Konza has to go
00:58:40he brings him down
00:58:41red card
00:58:41then you're thinking
00:58:42okay go on
00:58:43kick on
00:58:44they can't actually do that
00:58:45but I think
00:58:46a centre forward
00:58:47actually gets on the end of this
00:58:48because he just
00:58:50his reaction
00:58:50he just goes
00:58:52that split second
00:58:53too late
00:58:54does Anthony Gordon
00:58:55but in terms of
00:58:56performance
00:58:57particularly first half
00:58:58you can see
00:58:59they absolutely
00:59:00battered Aston Villa
00:59:01what do you both think
00:59:02Eddie Howe converted
00:59:03Joel Linton into a
00:59:04midfielder
00:59:05so is there
00:59:06would you give any credence
00:59:07to the thought
00:59:08that given his coaching ability
00:59:09and how he can spot
00:59:10versatility in a player
00:59:11he could turn one of that
00:59:13front three
00:59:14Gordon at this stage
00:59:15into a centre forward
00:59:16no I don't think so
00:59:18and I think for Anthony Gordon
00:59:19as well
00:59:19I think his best position
00:59:20is out wide
00:59:21and that's where he
00:59:21looks more of a danger
00:59:23so I think
00:59:24what's clear is
00:59:25Newcastle need a centre forward
00:59:27whether that is
00:59:27Isak staying at the football club
00:59:29which could be difficult now
00:59:30or
00:59:31do you bring a centre forward in
00:59:32because
00:59:33you get more out of
00:59:34especially Gordon
00:59:35and the language
00:59:36of going to the football club
00:59:37playing from wide areas
00:59:38so where are you at then
00:59:40with Alexander Isak
00:59:41before we come back to him
00:59:42where are you with it
00:59:43yeah I think it's a difficult one
00:59:45I think with Isak
00:59:46I think he has to go about it
00:59:49the right way
00:59:49and
00:59:50there's ways of leaving
00:59:51the football club
00:59:52that's whether the football club
00:59:53wants to get rid of you
00:59:54and if you want to leave
00:59:55to go to a different club
00:59:56there's the right way to do it
00:59:57and I've been there myself
00:59:58where I've asked to leave
00:59:59Manchester United
01:00:00in my career
01:00:01at times
01:00:02and
01:00:02it's
01:00:04you have to do the right way
01:00:05and you have to
01:00:06you know
01:00:06be professional about it
01:00:07but you put in a transfer request
01:00:09you didn't refuse to train
01:00:11you didn't refuse to play
01:00:12so there is a way to do it
01:00:14and Alex is not going about it
01:00:16the right way
01:00:17at all
01:00:18and
01:00:18you have to feel sorry
01:00:20for the players
01:00:20and the manager
01:00:21the players today
01:00:22are busting the gut
01:00:23for the football club
01:00:24for the thousands of fans
01:00:25that have travelled all that way
01:00:26to Villa Park
01:00:27they're giving their all
01:00:28yet they're looking at
01:00:30another player
01:00:31wherever he is
01:00:32refusing to play
01:00:34despite having a
01:00:35three year contract
01:00:36and on to over
01:00:37a hundred grand a week
01:00:39whereas they're paying
01:00:4060 or 70 quid
01:00:41for a ticket
01:00:4130 quid for petrol
01:00:43or a train ticket
01:00:44to get there and back
01:00:45I mean
01:00:45you can imagine the anger
01:00:47that they're feeling
01:00:47that someone
01:00:49is taking the liberty
01:00:50of saying
01:00:51I'm refusing to play
01:00:52you just can't do that
01:00:55when you've got
01:00:55a three year contract
01:00:56I think for the fans
01:00:58the fans
01:00:58especially
01:00:59obviously you know
01:01:00better than anyone
01:01:00the Geordies
01:01:01I think they're a passionate
01:01:02fan base
01:01:03and it's going to be hard
01:01:04for them to come back
01:01:05but also for his teammates
01:01:06I think as a teammate
01:01:08I think you
01:01:10expect your teammates
01:01:12to come in and train
01:01:13every day
01:01:13to give everything
01:01:14on the training pitch
01:01:15to give everything
01:01:15when you pull a shirt on
01:01:17to go and play
01:01:17and the fact
01:01:18that he's refusing
01:01:20to come in and train
01:01:21I think
01:01:21it's going to be
01:01:22very difficult
01:01:23to come back
01:01:23in front of the team
01:01:24Is that the difference
01:01:25within the professional
01:01:27football squad
01:01:28is that the difference
01:01:28for you
01:01:29so you asked to leave
01:01:30Manchester United
01:01:30but you still train
01:01:32and play
01:01:32therefore when everything's
01:01:34sorted
01:01:34and you do sign
01:01:35a new contract
01:01:35it's handshakes
01:01:37and you're back
01:01:38is it
01:01:39whereas if you're not
01:01:40training
01:01:41and not playing
01:01:42there's a trust element
01:01:44there
01:01:44is that what you're saying
01:01:45Yeah there is a trust element
01:01:46and I think
01:01:46he's just going about it
01:01:49the wrong way
01:01:49maybe he's getting
01:01:50advised wrongly
01:01:51but also for the team
01:01:53who's trying to sign him
01:01:54which obviously
01:01:55it looks like it's Liverpool
01:01:55who's trying to sign him
01:01:57you have to wonder
01:01:58is that the sort of player
01:01:59you want
01:01:59who is going to desert
01:02:00his teammates
01:02:01who is going to walk away
01:02:02from a huge football club
01:02:03and it's a good opportunity
01:02:05if Liverpool are there
01:02:06but it has to be done
01:02:07in the right way
01:02:07and I don't think it is
01:02:08I also understand
01:02:09there's two sides
01:02:10to every story
01:02:10and we've never heard
01:02:11anything from him
01:02:13or his side yet
01:02:14it's all leaks
01:02:15or reports
01:02:16coming from
01:02:17briefings
01:02:17coming from
01:02:18other people
01:02:20but what I would also say
01:02:22is at the minute
01:02:23there is still a chance
01:02:26albeit a small chance
01:02:28that he could be
01:02:28integrated back
01:02:29into the team
01:02:30if he says sorry
01:02:31if he wants to do that
01:02:33I don't know
01:02:33it's unlikely
01:02:34that that's the case
01:02:35but if it gets past
01:02:36the transfer deadline day
01:02:38and there's still
01:02:39an impasse
01:02:40and it's a deadlock
01:02:41and no one's budging
01:02:42he's still at Newcastle
01:02:43I can't see a way back
01:02:44then because it's
01:02:45well I have to be here
01:02:47and I have to be here
01:02:48because no one else
01:02:49we've not found a solution
01:02:50to it
01:02:50Newcastle have not been
01:02:52able to bring
01:02:52the two centre forwards
01:02:54in they need
01:02:55for him to then
01:02:56to be able to leave
01:02:57right to Friday night's game
01:03:00next Liverpool open
01:03:01their title defence
01:03:02against Bournemouth
01:03:03Steve Wilson
01:03:03at Hampton
01:03:04Anfield's fame
01:03:08is forged upon emotion
01:03:09and tonight
01:03:10it is Red Raw
01:03:12the start of a new season
01:03:14the defence of a title
01:03:15should be
01:03:15an occasion for joy
01:03:17but there's very little joy here
01:03:19for there is no jotter here
01:03:22just his song
01:03:23ringing around the stadium
01:03:25and a profound sense of loss
01:03:28which will linger for a long
01:03:30long time
01:03:31but there is a game
01:03:32to be won and lost
01:03:34Liverpool's extravagance
01:03:36of spending
01:03:37may not have stopped yet
01:03:38but there are four new faces
01:03:40Werth, Frimpong
01:03:41Ekitike and Kรผrkis
01:03:43who lines up against
01:03:43his former club
01:03:44Gravenberg is suspended
01:03:46McAllister for Jones
01:03:48the only change
01:03:49for the Community Shield
01:03:50Kรผrkis was one of three defenders
01:03:52to leave Bournemouth
01:03:53in the window
01:03:54you'd imagine
01:03:55there'd be more
01:03:56incomings for them
01:03:56before the end of the month
01:03:58Petrovic is their new goalkeeper
01:04:00Truffaut and Diakite
01:04:01make debuts in defence
01:04:03Iriola's side
01:04:04have only lost two
01:04:05of their last 13
01:04:07away league games
01:04:09We will now
01:04:13observe a period of silence
01:04:16in memory of Diogo Giotta
01:04:18our forever 20
01:04:20and his beloved brother
01:04:21Andre Silva
01:04:22the silence will begin and end
01:04:24on the referee's whistle
01:04:26a beautiful tribute
01:04:46to Andre Silva
01:04:49and Diogo Giotta
01:04:51it's to Frimpong
01:05:00oh Van Dijk
01:05:06that's a good chance
01:05:10that Ekitike may
01:05:12almost have clouded
01:05:14Van Dijk's vision there
01:05:15Brooks
01:05:17Truffaut
01:05:18delivering the cross
01:05:23Colate
01:05:24heading away
01:05:25as Alex Scott
01:05:26tried to nod it back
01:05:27into the danger area
01:05:28and there's a break on here
01:05:29oh
01:05:30Akitike can't quite
01:05:32take it with him
01:05:32they're asking
01:05:34for handball
01:05:34Liverpool
01:05:35and
01:05:38Anthony Taylor
01:05:39has
01:05:40stopped play
01:05:41and given Bournemouth
01:05:43a free kick
01:05:44and it came off
01:05:45Sanessi's thigh
01:05:46onto his arm
01:05:47that second movement
01:05:50was
01:05:51what roused
01:05:52Liverpool's
01:05:53suspicions
01:05:5420 minutes played
01:05:5820 minutes played
01:05:59and
01:05:59Virgo Giotta
01:06:01the
01:06:02number 20
01:06:05has been retired
01:06:06in his honour
01:06:06and his name
01:06:09is being sung
01:06:09all around
01:06:10Anfield
01:06:11Anthony Taylor
01:06:14is heading off
01:06:17in the direction
01:06:18of the touchline
01:06:20here
01:06:21both
01:06:24Areola
01:06:25and
01:06:25Slott
01:06:26are interested
01:06:27in what's being said
01:06:28here
01:06:28well we understand
01:06:33there is an allegation
01:06:34that there was a racist
01:06:35comment towards
01:06:36on transfer menu
01:06:37by somebody
01:06:39in the crowd
01:06:40a little over 10 minutes
01:06:44to go in the half
01:06:45it's not been littered
01:06:45with opportunities
01:06:46Van Dijk's header
01:06:47over the bar
01:06:48early on
01:06:49maybe Liverpool's best
01:06:51Smith's done really well
01:06:58got away from
01:06:58McAllister
01:06:59and it's scuffed
01:07:00it's a brilliant chance
01:07:02for Marcus Tavernier
01:07:03and he scuffed it
01:07:04straight into
01:07:05Alisson's
01:07:05grateful gloves
01:07:06that's the best chance
01:07:08of the game
01:07:08Liverpool
01:07:14Liverpool
01:07:15for all that they
01:07:16are champions
01:07:18or maybe because
01:07:18they were already champions
01:07:20have actually gone
01:07:21five games without winning
01:07:23their last victory
01:07:23was the 23rd of April
01:07:25a 5-1 victory
01:07:26over Spurs here
01:07:27Eketike trying to bundle through
01:07:30and he has
01:07:30and he scores
01:07:31a first Anfield goal
01:07:38for Hugo Eketike
01:07:40and Liverpool are in front
01:07:44and it's 2-2 in the red jersey
01:07:47for him
01:07:48he's involved in the build-up
01:07:51receives it back
01:07:53wriggles through
01:07:54and tucks it away nicely
01:07:58a little bit of fortune
01:07:59maybe the way he got through
01:08:01Sanessi
01:08:01but once he's in that position
01:08:04it's a very tidy finish
01:08:06indeed
01:08:07the number 20
01:08:09three years ago
01:08:13almost to the week
01:08:14Bournemouth were beaten
01:08:159-0 here
01:08:16somewhat surprisingly
01:08:18Mohamed Salah played
01:08:19all 90 minutes of that game
01:08:20without scoring
01:08:21Eketike
01:08:24Eketike
01:08:26looking for room
01:08:27and still
01:08:28and finding some
01:08:29and doubling
01:08:34Liverpool's lead
01:08:35well when Gakpo receives this
01:08:41he's still got a lot to do
01:08:42thought about shooting there
01:08:43thought about shooting again
01:08:45and when he did
01:08:46he found the corner
01:08:47all about composure
01:08:49waiting
01:08:50for the opportunity to come
01:08:52and then finding the finish
01:08:55the flick was
01:09:00snuffed out
01:09:01and that's a good ball
01:09:02into Brooks
01:09:03running in behind
01:09:04Kunate
01:09:05Semenya's in the middle
01:09:07and has scored
01:09:08it's a great
01:09:10counter-attacking goal
01:09:12and Bournemouth are back
01:09:13in the game
01:09:14such a good goal
01:09:17Brooks is
01:09:18onside by the look of that
01:09:20and it's a great ball
01:09:22perfect for Semenya
01:09:23and Alisson
01:09:24couldn't keep it out
01:09:26it's Liverpool 2
01:09:27it's Bournemouth 1
01:09:29and you'd be hard-pressed
01:09:30to say they don't deserve it
01:09:31Salah
01:09:38couldn't reach it
01:09:39Traore
01:09:40to Semenya
01:09:41and here go Bournemouth
01:09:42on the counter again
01:09:43Antoine Semenya
01:09:44Evan Nielsen to his right
01:09:46Tavernier to his left
01:09:47he's got to go left
01:09:48surely he goes alone
01:09:49and scores brilliantly
01:09:50it's 2-2
01:09:52it's 2-2
01:09:52and Semenya
01:09:55has both Bournemouth goals
01:09:57what a comeback
01:09:59what about this
01:10:00running from way inside
01:10:02his own half of the field
01:10:03a quite brilliant
01:10:05individual goal
01:10:06the runners right and left
01:10:08just scattered uncertainty
01:10:11in the minds of Liverpool
01:10:12defenders
01:10:13and Semenya went
01:10:15straight down the middle
01:10:16it's 2-2
01:10:18Alisson from almost
01:10:23the halfway line
01:10:24finding Sobosite
01:10:25Mohamed Salah
01:10:27oh lovely ball
01:10:28Jones nearly got onto it
01:10:30a bit of a mess
01:10:31and in
01:10:31from Chiesa
01:10:33almost Liverpool's
01:10:38forgotten man
01:10:39but Federico Chiesa
01:10:41might have won this game
01:10:42for them
01:10:43it's an awkward height
01:10:46for the Italian this
01:10:47and he controls it well
01:10:48that's a really good finish
01:10:54and it's Liverpool 3
01:10:57it's Bournemouth 2
01:10:59Chiesa
01:11:01with 2 minutes to go
01:11:04Joe Gomez underneath this
01:11:08with Hamed Traore
01:11:09Bournemouth aren't quite beaten yet
01:11:12Endo
01:11:13Chiesa might have been offside
01:11:16Salah isn't
01:11:17and Salah's got there
01:11:18ahead of Hill
01:11:19Mohamed Salah here
01:11:204 in the middle for him
01:11:22Salah
01:11:23and that'll do it
01:11:25Mohamed Salah's
01:11:3510th goal
01:11:37on the opening day
01:11:38of a Premier League season
01:11:39that is a league record
01:11:41that is a league record
01:11:41and it secures the points
01:11:44for the champions
01:11:45look at this
01:11:51brilliant
01:11:51how far has he run
01:11:53in comparison to those
01:11:55blue-shirted defenders
01:11:56to get their first
01:11:58that's brilliant play
01:12:00by Mohamed Salah
01:12:02and Liverpool start with a win
01:12:09a hard-earned victory
01:12:11lots of emotion
01:12:14whirling around Anfield
01:12:15along with
01:12:17the song of Diogo Jota
01:12:20at the end of an emotional night
01:12:23Liverpool 4
01:12:25Bournemouth 2
01:12:27we play against a team
01:12:29that never gives up
01:12:29very fit
01:12:32last season
01:12:33they were top of every chart
01:12:34when it comes to running stats
01:12:35and again
01:12:35they were very impressive
01:12:37in that sense today
01:12:38the way they
01:12:39counter-attacked us
01:12:40with the second goal
01:12:41they scored
01:12:41for example
01:12:42that shows you
01:12:44that you have to give credit
01:12:45to them as well
01:12:46but
01:12:46they face a team
01:12:47that's really fit as well
01:12:48last season
01:12:49but this season again
01:12:50and although we've lost
01:12:51many players
01:12:52the mentality
01:12:54to come back
01:12:54after a disappointment
01:12:56is still there
01:12:56also with the new ones
01:12:57even when we scored
01:12:59the 2-2
01:12:59I think we were with
01:13:00look like we were
01:13:01with a little bit more
01:13:02of energy
01:13:03but it's true
01:13:03that you never know
01:13:04against Liverpool
01:13:05because when they really need
01:13:06they find an extra
01:13:07energy boost
01:13:09and
01:13:10probably third goal
01:13:12we go
01:13:15both players
01:13:16to the same ball
01:13:16we leave the ball there
01:13:17it's true
01:13:18that it's a great finish
01:13:19but it's a shame
01:13:20because we've been
01:13:20really really close
01:13:21for my goal
01:13:22it took me one year
01:13:24to score in the Premier League
01:13:25but
01:13:25we say in Italian
01:13:27I don't know
01:13:27if you can say this in English
01:13:28but better late than never
01:13:30oh yeah
01:13:30yeah it's the same
01:13:31it's the same in English
01:13:32okay better late than ever
01:13:33we understand that
01:13:34Antoine was the victim
01:13:36of some racial
01:13:37comments from the crowd
01:13:38that's horrendous
01:13:40yes I didn't notice life
01:13:42but straight away
01:13:43Antoine and the referee
01:13:44told us
01:13:45the person has been identified
01:13:46and obviously
01:13:48it's a big shame
01:13:49these things continue happening
01:13:51the first game
01:13:51of the Premier League
01:13:53everyone watching
01:13:55it's a lovely game
01:13:56of football
01:13:56and that we have to talk
01:13:58about these things
01:13:59still today
01:14:00I think it's really a big shame
01:14:01it's obvious that we don't want
01:14:03this in football
01:14:04that there's nothing
01:14:06we can say
01:14:07how we feel about this
01:14:08and we don't want this
01:14:09in football
01:14:09but we definitely don't want
01:14:11this at Anfield
01:14:11and unfortunately
01:14:13that's now part of the story
01:14:15because for the rest
01:14:16we should talk about
01:14:16how a great tribute
01:14:17there was for Diogo
01:14:18what our fans did
01:14:20for him
01:14:21for his family
01:14:21with the great banner
01:14:23and the way they sang
01:14:24and never walking
01:14:24on all of these things
01:14:25but let's be clear
01:14:26the club had a clear statement
01:14:29and this should never happen
01:14:32in football
01:14:32let alone at Anfield
01:14:33Thank you
01:14:34It was such an emotional
01:14:36moving night
01:14:37at Anfield
01:14:37and Antoine Semenya
01:14:39has posted on Instagram
01:14:40today
01:14:41about what happened
01:14:42to him
01:14:42last night
01:14:43saying that
01:14:43it will stay with him
01:14:45forever
01:14:45but not because
01:14:46of one person's words
01:14:47but more how the entire
01:14:49football family
01:14:51stood together
01:14:52and Merseyside Police
01:14:53have confirmed today
01:14:54that they've arrested
01:14:54a 47-year-old man
01:14:56on suspicion
01:14:57of a racially aggravated
01:14:59public order offence
01:15:01As far as the game
01:15:03itself was concerned
01:15:05Liverpool look like
01:15:07they're going to be
01:15:07very entertaining
01:15:08to watch this season
01:15:09That's to Bournemouth
01:15:11actually to be fair
01:15:12Yeah Bournemouth
01:15:12were very very good
01:15:13They're never going to
01:15:14fail to score goals
01:15:15I don't think Liverpool
01:15:15but at the moment
01:15:17they look very very vulnerable
01:15:19and the turnover
01:15:20of possession
01:15:21in terms of
01:15:21counter-attack goals
01:15:23and after 38 games
01:15:25last season
01:15:25they conceded two
01:15:26after counter-attacks
01:15:28after one game
01:15:28this season
01:15:29they've conceded two
01:15:30Look there
01:15:31Kirk has got a clue
01:15:32where he is
01:15:33that should have been
01:15:33they should have scored
01:15:34two goals
01:15:35and went 2-0 up
01:15:36Bournemouth
01:15:37on similar occasions
01:15:39in doing that
01:15:39OK
01:15:40it doesn't quite work
01:15:42here with that first pass
01:15:43they've got
01:15:443v3 there
01:15:45first pass doesn't work
01:15:47but Liverpool
01:15:48are all over the place
01:15:49defensively
01:15:50watch Canard here
01:15:51he hasn't got a clue
01:15:52what's going on
01:15:53behind him
01:15:53and I said
01:15:55they're very vulnerable
01:15:55particularly down the sides
01:15:57and behind either full-back
01:15:58there's Kerkest there
01:15:59he's on the way to attack
01:16:01when they haven't even
01:16:02got possession
01:16:02which means he's
01:16:045 or 6 yards
01:16:04out of position
01:16:06I mean that is an
01:16:06unbelievable ball
01:16:07and a great finish
01:16:08but Liverpool are all over
01:16:10defensively
01:16:11the balance doesn't
01:16:12look right at all
01:16:13they change the full-backs
01:16:14Robertson comes on
01:16:15and Endo comes on
01:16:16Curtis Jones is attacking
01:16:18into the box
01:16:19runs straight past
01:16:20Bournemouth players
01:16:20they lose the ball
01:16:21look
01:16:22you've got 8 players
01:16:23in that 18-yard box
01:16:24and all of a sudden
01:16:25you've got 4v2
01:16:27Semenyo
01:16:28it's an unbelievable run
01:16:29but look at how many players
01:16:31Liverpool players
01:16:32are out of position
01:16:32it's a great finish again
01:16:34the balance doesn't look right
01:16:36at all
01:16:36OK
01:16:37they score 2 late goals
01:16:38to go on and win the game
01:16:39but that's what I mentioned there
01:16:41when you look at it
01:16:42that is incredible
01:16:43counter-attack goals
01:16:44last season too
01:16:45already 2 this season
01:16:47so there's work to be done
01:16:49on that side of things
01:16:50further forward
01:16:50you were impressed with
01:16:51Eke TK weren't you?
01:16:53yeah I thought he had
01:16:54a really good game
01:16:55and obviously involved
01:16:55in the first two goals
01:16:57but what I really liked
01:16:58about this game is
01:16:58he comes short at times
01:17:00he ran in behind
01:17:01here he comes short
01:17:02then he carries on
01:17:03and he lays the ball off
01:17:04and then he gets in the box
01:17:05he wants to get on
01:17:06the end of crosses
01:17:07again here
01:17:08comes short
01:17:09comes off the defence
01:17:10good pass out wide
01:17:12first thought
01:17:13gets in the box
01:17:14Salah has a shot
01:17:18doesn't cross it
01:17:18but he's making
01:17:19the right movement
01:17:20but what I like about this one
01:17:21it's a double movement
01:17:22he lays it off
01:17:23he goes to goal again
01:17:24and then he stays short
01:17:25now he's keeping
01:17:27the ball with defenders
01:17:27guessing
01:17:28and now he sees the space
01:17:29and he makes that
01:17:30running behind
01:17:30gets a little bit of luck
01:17:31which he deserved
01:17:32and then a cool finish
01:17:34at the end of it
01:17:35and again here
01:17:37being in the middle
01:17:38of the goal
01:17:38I think it's really important
01:17:39good cross
01:17:40should do better
01:17:41should get another goal
01:17:42and this one
01:17:44good composure
01:17:45makes a corner run
01:17:46holds the ball up well
01:17:47he's got the composure
01:17:48to see his team mate
01:17:49lovely way to pass
01:17:51gap pro
01:17:52really calm
01:17:53and composed
01:17:54so I think
01:17:55it's a very good debut
01:17:56for him
01:17:57and involved in two goals
01:17:59and Alan you tweeted
01:18:00last night
01:18:01why would you want
01:18:01to move to Anfield
01:18:02now to be
01:18:03Eka TK's understudy
01:18:04I can't imagine
01:18:05why you did that
01:18:06let's just show you
01:18:08the league table
01:18:09before we go
01:18:10even though not
01:18:11everybody's played yet
01:18:12Manchester City
01:18:13have had their best
01:18:14start to a season
01:18:15for six years
01:18:16one of four teams
01:18:17to take maximum points
01:18:18so far
01:18:19at the other end
01:18:20Wolves sit bottom
01:18:21after making their
01:18:22worst start to a league
01:18:23campaign for 22 years
01:18:25but there's a long
01:18:26way
01:18:27to go
01:18:28so from today's game
01:18:30Sunderland were on first
01:18:32but already
01:18:32Liverpool and Manchester
01:18:34City are up and running
01:18:35and both scored four
01:18:36so I suppose you could say
01:18:38the more things change
01:18:39the more things stay the same
01:18:41Gabby's here tomorrow
01:18:42goodnight
01:18:57the more things stay the same
01:18:58the more things stay the same
01:18:59the more things stay the same
01:19:00the more things stay the same
01:19:01the more things stay the same
01:19:02the more things stay the same
01:19:03the more things stay the same
01:19:04the more things stay the same
01:19:05the more things stay the same
01:19:06the more things stay the same
01:19:07the more things stay the same
01:19:08the more things stay the same
01:19:09the more things stay the same
01:19:10the more things stay the same
01:19:11the more things stay the same
