An Indigenous Saisiyat village in central Taiwan has become the country's first member of international non-profit Forest Stewardship Council, after years of collaborating with the forestry agency on replanting logged forest and cultivating sustainable farming.

00:00An indigenous Saishiat village has become the first in Taiwan to become a member of the Forest Stewardship Council.
00:34The Council is a global organization that promotes responsible forest management through a certification system.
00:41The Saishiat village received its certification in 2023.
00:45For decades, the community had been blocked from entering their ancestral woodlands because of past illegal logging.
00:51But over the past eight years, the village and forestry agency have worked together to restore the land, replanting trees
00:57and bringing back sustainable farming practices.
01:24The Saishiat village also shares its practices with indigenous communities abroad.
