00:00:19Good evening, welcome to Champions League Match of the Day.
00:00:22Action from four quarterfinal first leg ties on the way over the next hour.
00:00:26Stephen Warnock, Neda Manua and European football expert Rory Smith are with us.
00:00:33We begin at the Parc de France. Holders Paris Saint-Germain up against six-time European Cup winners Liverpool,
00:00:40who meet again after their epic in the round of 16 last season.
00:00:46The City of Light is heavy on the raw and the raucous tonight.
00:00:52Saved by Alisson. Alisson's at his best tonight and he needs to be.
00:00:57Darwin Nunez trying to get it down. He's got it down at his feet now.
00:01:01And here comes Elliott!
00:01:03It's a Champions League smash and grab.
00:01:08It's one of those Anfield nights.
00:01:11Marcola looking for Dembele. Canate's there. Dembele's going to nip in.
00:01:15It will be decided by a penalty shooter.
00:01:19Jones. Saved again by Donnarumma.
00:01:22Desiree Douai.
00:01:24Liverpool's journey ends on home turn.
00:01:30PSG have progressed from all four of their knockout stage ties against Premier League opponents since the start of last
00:01:37season.
00:01:37Can they do it again? Commentary comes from Guy Mowbrie.
00:01:42Springtime in Paris.
00:01:44Perhaps just the change of scene Liverpool need to get themselves singing again.
00:01:48Although recent experience and current form combine to make PSG firm favourites to progress.
00:01:56Marquinhos, Vitinha and Jean Neves all return to the PSG line-up.
00:02:00As the three changes from last Friday's 3-1 win in Ligue 1 against Toulouse.
00:02:05The threatening front three is Douai, Dembele and Kvaratskelia.
00:02:09With Bradley Barkola not yet ready to return from a hamstring injury.
00:02:13For Liverpool, Alexis McAllister replaces Curtis Jones.
00:02:16And Jeremy Frimpong comes in too at Mo Salah's expense.
00:02:20Salah on the bench, along with Alexander Isak, who's involved for the first time since breaking his leg at Spurs
00:02:26in December.
00:02:28A moment pre-match to pay respects to the great Romanian coach, Michir Luchescu, who passed away this week at
00:02:37the age of 80.
00:02:50Question marks about the system that Liverpool would be employing tonight.
00:02:53But it is very much a back five with Joe Gomez on the left of the three in the middle.
00:02:58That means Frimpong will be fully engaged with Kvaratskelia down the right.
00:03:04Vitinha.
00:03:06The player he's grown into.
00:03:09That spell he had at Wolves.
00:03:12Against the ball again, courtesy of Desiree Douai.
00:03:16Now it's Dembele.
00:03:18Run through one challenge, Douai.
00:03:23Douai might have a chance to curl one in.
00:03:25And it is in!
00:03:29Looping over Mamadashvili.
00:03:35Got away from Kanate and Frimpong.
00:03:40Still doesn't seem too much danger when the ball came back to him.
00:03:44He's got so much to do from here.
00:03:45There is no way through, but one pirouette later and he found a way.
00:03:52Must have taken a nick.
00:03:53It does, a big one.
00:03:54That's what deceived Mamadashvili.
00:03:56Came off the heel of Gravenberg.
00:04:00PSG one, Liverpool nil.
00:04:05Rana Slott was talking about the opening 35 minutes at Manchester City in their 4-0 FA Cup defeat at
00:04:12the weekend.
00:04:13Saying that showed they can match any of the best teams around.
00:04:17And it went wrong for them as the game went on in Manchester.
00:04:20It's going wrong for them from the start in Paris.
00:04:24It's a looping throw in.
00:04:25Van Dijk tried to get to it.
00:04:27Saphanov got above him with his hands and puts it behind.
00:04:33Ryan Gravenberg is on the ball.
00:04:36Virgil van Dijk is urgently trying to get some sort of instruction to him.
00:04:42Short corner to Wierz was the call.
00:04:43That's a really good ball.
00:04:44Saphanov has to fly and stretch out his arm.
00:04:50Zaire Emery.
00:04:52And he got away from the tackle only to poke the ball out of play.
00:04:56Well worked by Liverpool.
00:04:58And credit to Saphanov.
00:05:00Because Kerkhez and Van Dijk were both primed to try and bundle that home.
00:05:05Dueck.
00:05:06Shocking the ball from foot to foot.
00:05:10Can't get through to cause a problem.
00:05:11But there's Kvatskelia.
00:05:13Saved by his international teammate Mamadashvili.
00:05:18Pretty good save.
00:05:20One he'd expect to make.
00:05:27And that makes it an even better save from Mamadashvili.
00:05:29Because it comes off the backside of Mac Alistair.
00:05:34Petinho.
00:05:38Joe Neves.
00:05:40What a ball that is for Nuno Mendes.
00:05:42And he's got Desiree Dueck with him.
00:05:45Dueck!
00:05:46Mamadashvili makes a good block.
00:05:48Dueck really ought to have doubled his tally.
00:05:52Dueck conscious that Canate was closing.
00:05:54Decided he had to take it early.
00:05:58Vietz.
00:05:59Frimpong.
00:06:00What a good ball from Vietz.
00:06:01And Frimpong went for power.
00:06:04Just trying to blitz it across to that far post.
00:06:07Sizing up his options.
00:06:08Having a look.
00:06:09I think the shot was the best bet.
00:06:12It's a lovely ball from Florian Vietz.
00:06:19That's how you take it.
00:06:21Nuno Mendes.
00:06:23PSG are bouncing the ball through here.
00:06:25It's Ferratz Kalia.
00:06:27And now it's Due who checks.
00:06:29And now it's Dembele who scuffed it.
00:06:33A tame one straight at Mamadashvili.
00:06:35From trying to keep PSG in their own half.
00:06:38Liverpool opened up by Paris Saint-Germain.
00:06:41Rather playfully getting the ball forward.
00:06:44They just lost that bit of rhythm.
00:06:46When it mattered in the penalty area.
00:06:49I think most were expecting it to be 2-0 right there.
00:07:01Callister.
00:07:02He's headed that one straight to Karadz Kalia.
00:07:05It's pulled back for Dembele.
00:07:07Too high.
00:07:10Huge chance.
00:07:13McAllister off the hook.
00:07:15That was so casual, so careless.
00:07:17But I think you could say the same about Dembele's finish.
00:07:21Liverpool are being warned.
00:07:22They're being shouted at.
00:07:24But it remains at one.
00:07:27That's Kanate looking for Ekotike.
00:07:30And Saphanov comes out to use his head.
00:07:32And that means he's missing from the goal.
00:07:35Marquinhos.
00:07:36And the flag goes up.
00:07:37And I rather thought it might.
00:07:39Ekotike looked offside in the first instance.
00:07:41But Saphanov wasn't standing on ceremony to find out.
00:07:45Actually, I don't think he was.
00:07:46I think Marquinhos is playing him on.
00:07:53That's Kalia.
00:07:57Getting the return.
00:07:59And getting in.
00:08:00Kalia keeps his feet.
00:08:02Oh, that's magnificent.
00:08:05What a player he is.
00:08:09PSG 2.
00:08:10Liverpool 0.
00:08:12Another glorious goal.
00:08:14From the player whose name you're never likely to forget.
00:08:18A player you wouldn't mind watching every single week of the year.
00:08:23And all the work that Liverpool have done to keep themselves in it.
00:08:27Keep it to one.
00:08:28Has been undone.
00:08:30Wasn't all his own work.
00:08:32But Chão Neves deserves a huge share of the praise.
00:08:35He's not bad either.
00:08:37But then Kvaletskalia.
00:08:38Was strong enough to hold off the challenge.
00:08:41Ignoring Gravenberg.
00:08:43Riding that out.
00:08:45Single-minded.
00:08:46Focused on.
00:08:47Simply sidestepping his international colleague Mamadashvili.
00:08:51And then it's a tap in.
00:08:54PSG 2.
00:08:55Liverpool 0.
00:08:58De Bele.
00:09:00And it's starting to flow once more.
00:09:04Due.
00:09:05Hakimi's up there.
00:09:07Zaire Emery with a break into the box.
00:09:08Here he is.
00:09:09Zaire Emery.
00:09:10Was he fouled by Kanate?
00:09:12Referee says.
00:09:13Yes he was.
00:09:16This could be the moment.
00:09:18That doesn't just take tonight away from Liverpool.
00:09:20It takes the tie away.
00:09:24Zaire Emery getting himself ready to shoot.
00:09:28Kanate has to make the challenge to stop him.
00:09:31He actually takes the ball cleanly.
00:09:33It might not be given.
00:09:35Carlos Delcero Grande in VAR has clearly decided he doesn't think it should be a penalty.
00:09:41So has called Jose Maria Sanchez over to have another look for himself.
00:09:45The ball was certainly won.
00:09:46No doubt about that.
00:09:49Generally in European football when you see any sort of contact with the leg first.
00:09:52You kind of think.
00:09:53Well the decision is going to stay as it is.
00:09:55But I don't think Kanate's challenge actually.
00:09:57Was enough.
00:09:58To cause the lack of balance.
00:10:02It's not going to be a penalty.
00:10:05And it stays 2-0.
00:10:08And if I said that could be the moment that takes it away from Liverpool.
00:10:11By the same token.
00:10:12It could be the big moment.
00:10:14That means they're still right in this.
00:10:18It's Nuno Mendes.
00:10:20Mendes is able to pull it back.
00:10:24No immediate threat yet.
00:10:26Well you wouldn't think so.
00:10:27But here's Dembele.
00:10:28That could change quickly.
00:10:30Dembele to Hakimi.
00:10:31Good save.
00:10:32Dembele again.
00:10:34Comes off Robertson and goes behind.
00:10:37Namadashvili has played pretty well in Alisson's absence.
00:10:42Yeah PSG have been the better team.
00:10:43There's no denying that.
00:10:45But one or two breaks have not gone Liverpool's way.
00:10:51Misjudged by Frempoch.
00:10:52Dembele will carry until he has helped.
00:10:55He's got it now from Lee.
00:10:59Lee back to Dembele.
00:11:02Outside of the post.
00:11:09He catches that just a split second before he does.
00:11:14The timing's just slightly different.
00:11:15That rips into the top of the net.
00:11:25Now here's Hakimi running away from Virgil van Dijk.
00:11:30And the ball has run away as well.
00:11:33Still the chance for Clarence Kalia.
00:11:37The way that was worked.
00:11:39Hakimi just kept on running.
00:11:41Luno Mendes lost his feet.
00:11:45William Thatcher.
00:11:48Luno Mendes.
00:11:50Leaving Canate behind.
00:11:53Was he pushed there Luno Mendes?
00:11:55Was there an arm in his back?
00:11:56Jose Maria Sanchez doesn't think so.
00:11:59The check's over.
00:12:01Sold as seen.
00:12:02Stays 2-0.
00:12:04Anything that looked more of a penalty than the one that Jose Maria Sanchez initially awarded.
00:12:09The referee blows for full-time.
00:12:12A greeting between Arnes Lott and Luis Enrique.
00:12:15And it is the Spanish manager of PSG will have more reason to be full of smiles when he takes
00:12:21to his bed tonight.
00:12:22Full-time in the first leg of the quarter-final.
00:12:24And it's Paris Saint-Germain 2, Liverpool 0.
00:12:29We were in survival mode for large parts of the game.
00:12:36But maybe also in the period of the season where we are in survival mode.
00:12:41So to try to find ways where we can try to make sure that their qualities are not seen that
00:12:49much.
00:12:49But that's really, really, really hard against this team because last season over here we were in survival mode as
00:12:54well.
00:12:55We have to be absolutely spot on with everything we do.
00:13:00Hopefully our fans can play a big part in that as well.
00:13:03I've been through many special evenings at Anfield and I'm very lucky and privileged.
00:13:08And our fans, you know, that's the backbone of the club and hopefully they can be there for us again.
00:13:15Today they changed their formation to play against us and it means that they were thinking about trying to combat
00:13:24us.
00:13:25But I think it was a great match, nice to watch and at the end the difference could be the
00:13:33small details.
00:13:35I think first half it was more equal but the second half we created a lot more.
00:13:41Well, we'll talk about Liverpool and that change in shape that Luis Enrique refers to there in a moment.
00:13:45But I think we should start by waxing lyrical and giving you the floor, Nadem.
00:13:49You can start with Kravitz Scalier's goal which came after a minute and 24 seconds of possession.
00:13:54Yes, and it was absolutely incredible.
00:13:56You know, we're talking about one of the best forwards in European and world football.
00:13:59But what I like is the fact that he's obviously great with the ball at his feet but he's prepared
00:14:02to run without it as well.
00:14:03And I must say that ball from Jean Gomez there through the legs, that's incredible.
00:14:07But the poise here, the balance, the strength and the composure.
00:14:10It's an incredible moment from somebody that's been an incredible player for PSG.
00:14:14I think you can see here, Sabah's lies with him.
00:14:16But as soon as you turn your back and you don't pay attention, you can be punished.
00:14:19Again, the level of quality we're talking about here is as high as it comes.
00:14:23It's as good as it comes.
00:14:24But still, what a player.
00:14:26Look here, look at these challenges, look at the strength.
00:14:29The fact that he didn't go down there under the tackle from Gravenbirch, hugely impressive.
00:14:32And then as soon as he gets through, you know exactly what's going to happen.
00:14:34He's an amazing player.
00:14:36He really is blessed in this stage of the Champions League.
00:14:38Yeah, when they signed him, which was January last year from Napoli,
00:14:41I was slightly, not baffled, but they seem to have plenty of strength in that area.
00:14:44Dwey, Barcoller, who was injured tonight.
00:14:46Obviously Dembele.
00:14:47And he sort of thought, well, it's a lot of money to spend on someone who's like an option.
00:14:51But he kind of sums up this PSG, doesn't he?
00:14:53Because he's got that wonderful technical ability.
00:14:55But he's also got a really virtuoso streak for Estrella.
00:14:57He does things you don't expect.
00:14:59He does things in positions where you sort of want to see him do one thing.
00:15:03He does something completely different.
00:15:05And I think that makes him really hard to defend.
00:15:07But his energy levels, his industry, he worked so hard.
00:15:10And they're the virtues that this PSG team has.
00:15:12He's kind of an un-flashy-flashy player, isn't he?
00:15:14Because of that work rate.
00:15:16You know, sometimes you don't always kind of notice him.
00:15:19And then he comes with the most beautiful and sublime moments in a game.
00:15:23He's mesmerizing.
00:15:25Liverpool not so mesmerizing tonight.
00:15:28You mentioned there, Luis Enrique, they changed their formation for us.
00:15:32Slott was talking there quite negatively in a way about their performance.
00:15:37And he later said as well in an interview that they were lucky to get away with 2-0.
00:15:40This was about damage limitation.
00:15:42Yeah, 100%.
00:15:43Well, Liverpool are in a position at the moment where confidence is low.
00:15:46When you watch them every game, it's like a basketball game.
00:15:49The one thing that they were scared of here was, and that was the word,
00:15:52they were scared of Paris Saint-Germain and the quality.
00:15:54So what did they think they could do?
00:15:56They could go with a five at the back.
00:15:57They've got Gomez on that left-hand side.
00:15:59You've got the two full-backs or wing-backs, Kirkes and Fringpong.
00:16:03But they're looking to press high.
00:16:04And this drags Canarte into positions that he doesn't want to go into.
00:16:09He doesn't want to be a right full-back.
00:16:11And this is their right full-back, Hakimi, who's popping up in the left-wing position.
00:16:15That's the fluidity of Paris Saint-Germain.
00:16:17That's how they go forward.
00:16:18It's an opportunity here which just breaks down with that moment of quality in the final third.
00:16:23And this is where they become a little bit disjointed, Liverpool.
00:16:26And again, it's Canarte getting dragged out to that right-hand side.
00:16:29You can just see the ball in behind now because Gomez is dropping deep.
00:16:34He's beyond, or he's deeper than Canarte and Van Dijk.
00:16:37And now there's a real issue because they've got the run on them as it comes into Douay here.
00:16:42Perhaps should do better.
00:16:43It's a good save from Mamed Ashwili, who I thought would have played really well on the night.
00:16:46But this is the problem now.
00:16:48When you break, and this is unbelievable play from Paris Saint-Germain.
00:16:51This is what they can do to you.
00:16:53The little bump round the corner on the chest.
00:16:55The one-touch football in behind.
00:16:57Very difficult to play against.
00:16:58And as it falls to Dembele at the back post, you're thinking, perfect man to hit it.
00:17:03Left foot.
00:17:03Just doesn't get hold of it at all.
00:17:05It's a poor finish.
00:17:06But they were so confident in drawing Liverpool out of position.
00:17:10And this is the right back again.
00:17:11Hakimi just continues his run.
00:17:13You'll see it here.
00:17:14In behind.
00:17:14Van Dijk gets sucked into that middle position.
00:17:17Mendes, he is a left back, but he moved into the left mid position later on in the game.
00:17:21They should have wrapped it up.
00:17:23They should have been three or four ahead.
00:17:24They are such a dangerous team.
00:17:26And it doesn't matter how you set up against them.
00:17:29They will pull you out of position.
00:17:31It's just three shots for Liverpool.
00:17:33None on target.
00:17:34And it's the first time they haven't had a shot on target in the Champions League in five and a
00:17:37half years.
00:17:38And the gulf there in those stats.
00:17:40Actually, possession was as high as 82% for PSG, wasn't it, at times.
00:17:44It really tells a story, Rory.
00:17:46Yeah, I don't think anyone sets up to be that dominated in a game.
00:17:50And I suppose from Slott's perspective, you'd say, well, two goals, they're still in the tie.
00:17:57I certainly don't know enough about football to say he could have done this and it would have worked out
00:18:01better.
00:18:01Maybe Nadam and Steven do.
00:18:03You're the European Football Expo, my friend.
00:18:04That is true.
00:18:05But even so, you know, if you go toe-to-toe with PSG, they'll beat you.
00:18:09If you do basically anything against PSG, if they're on it, they will beat you.
00:18:12The argument would be, though, Rory, and from Liverpool fans, is they've just spent £450 million.
00:18:19So there should be improvements.
00:18:21Now, I know Isak's been injured for long periods, but you've bought a player who's injury-prone.
00:18:26So what are you expecting from him all of a sudden?
00:18:28I know it was one of those tackles that it can happen, but the gulf shouldn't be as big as
00:18:33it is at the moment.
00:18:34And I think that's the biggest concern for Liverpool fans.
00:18:37Yeah, I've got to say as well, listening to what Arna Slott was saying after the game, he's talking about
00:18:41a side being in survival mode.
00:18:42Not just for this game, but for this part of the season.
00:18:45You know, we're in the final stages of the Champions League and that's where one side is.
00:18:49It doesn't feel right to me, to be honest.
00:18:51There does seem to be a gulf in even the identity of this team.
00:18:54The team that played in the last round of 16 last year and this year.
00:18:58And where they're going and what they're about and how Arna Slott is taking them forwards.
00:19:04And if you have a look at his own record with Liverpool in terms of last season to this season,
00:19:09there tonight was the 16th loss of the season.
00:19:12There were only nine in the whole of last season.
00:19:15Win percentage dramatically down.
00:19:17Yeah, the other problem is since they got knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield last season,
00:19:21they've lost 21 games in 59 games.
00:19:26That's incredible.
00:19:27For a team of Liverpool's quality and what we've...
00:19:30You're talking about the Premier League champions from last season.
00:19:32It's not good enough.
00:19:34And I think there's obviously issues whether the players believe in what's going on,
00:19:38whether the board think he's the right man to turn things around.
00:19:41I just don't know where Liverpool are at at this moment in time in terms of what they're going to
00:19:46do with the manager.
00:19:47But tonight they have got an opportunity to put things right because at 2-0,
00:19:52it could have been 4-5 and 6, but at 2-0, like Virgil van Dijk spoke about there, you
00:19:57go back to Anfield, anything can happen.
00:19:592-0 is a good scoreline to take back, but it also means that Liverpool are going to have to
00:20:03go for it, aren't they?
00:20:04Yeah, I mean that is... PSU will be thinking, I really hope you come out and play next time, lads,
00:20:07because I suspect there'll be space there.
00:20:09I think the slot needs a performance as much as anything else because the results are bad, as Steven has
00:20:14made clear.
00:20:15You can't go out on Anfield playing five at the back.
00:20:18They have to give a performance, they have to go out on their shields rather than sitting back and accepting
00:20:24it.
00:20:24Otherwise, you suspect the stadium might turn a little bit.
00:20:27OK, thank you very much for the moment. Arsenal's trip to sporting is still to come, along with Real Madrid
00:20:32against Bayern Munich.
00:20:33But staying with tonight's action, we head to camp now for an intriguing All La Liga match-up between five
00:20:39-time winners Barcelona and three-time finalists Atletico Madrid.
00:20:44On paper, it's Barcelona who lead the way against Atletico Madrid.
00:20:47Atleti kept many stars on the bench at the Metropolitano this weekend, but the Catalan's win opened up a 19
00:20:54-point gap with Simeone's team and a 7-point gap with Real Madrid at the top of La Liga.
00:21:00But here's the warning. Atleti not only knocked Barca out of the Spanish Cup this season, they've also eliminated Barca
00:21:08twice before at the quarter-finals stage in 2014 and 2016.
00:21:19They both suffer from defensive problems. While Barca's attack has been relentless, 19 goals in the last four games, both
00:21:27sides are averaging well over two goals per game in this competition.
00:21:31So, will it be a hat-trick of quarter-final wins for Atleti or a third-time lucky for Barca?
00:21:40It's all set up very nicely indeed for your commentator, Mark Scott.
00:21:44Rather than familiarity, breeding contempt, the niggly Barca win at the weekend and Atleti's recent Roller Coaster Cup semi-final
00:21:54success means the fifth meeting of the season between these two is eagerly anticipated.
00:22:01Having scored in the win at Atleti a few days ago, Marcus Rashford keeps his place in the Barca side,
00:22:08with Robert Lewandowski coming in up top, they're still without Rafinha due to injury.
00:22:14Having rested some of his big guns for that domestic defeat on Saturday, it's back to the familiar Simeone side
00:22:21tonight, with ex-Farca man Anton Griezmann partnered by Atleti's Champions League man Julian Alvarez, who's scored eight in the
00:22:30competition this season.
00:22:38That's a loose pass, Yamal forwards for Rashford!
00:22:44That's a big chance, and Marcus Rashford knows that he should really have done better with it.
00:22:52Straightforward enough save for Pan Moussa to make, he knows that should be 1-0.
00:23:00Alvarez.
00:23:05Well that's a really good run by Simeone, and what's he called?
00:23:10Referee says free kick, and what colour is the card here?
00:23:15It's a yellow.
00:23:18Well, once he gave the foul, you expected that a red would follow for denial of a goal-scoring opportunity.
00:23:28But he's been told to go to the monitor.
00:23:33The yellow is scrubbed, the red is out, and Barcelona are down to ten men.
00:23:46Jubilation in the away end.
00:24:00Is there further joy for Atletico from the free kick?
00:24:04Alvarez!
00:24:05Oh my word!
00:24:07It's an absolute beauty!
00:24:10Julian Alvarez doing the business in the Champions League once again!
00:24:17What a few minutes for Atleti!
00:24:20They see Barca go down to ten!
00:24:23And then they see Alvarez curling a humdinger!
00:24:28Red hot in the competition this season, Julian Alvarez.
00:24:33And it was a scorching hit from the Argentinian here.
00:24:37Pace, power, placement, it's got it all.
00:24:41And Joan Garcia couldn't get anything on it.
00:24:45A pivotal couple of minutes in this Champions League quarterfinal.
00:24:57Here's Cancelo.
00:25:01That's a lovely pass, Rashford, round the keeper, can he get it in? No!
00:25:06Created wonderfully by Lamin Yamal.
00:25:09But not quite finished off by Marcus Rashford.
00:25:12It's an absolute peach of a pass, isn't it?
00:25:15Rashford's first touch, perhaps just a tiny bit heavy.
00:25:19Which meant that the angle was always decreasing.
00:25:25And then that's a loose ball from Llorente.
00:25:28Yamal onto it.
00:25:30And Lamin Yamal is crunched there by Robin Lenormand.
00:25:33They're gonna get a free kick.
00:25:36Barcelona wants some further punishment.
00:25:40Well, Alvarez scored a beauty from similar distance in the first half.
00:25:44What can Rashford provide here?
00:25:47Oh, it's a good try!
00:25:49And it's off the par.
00:25:52Almost another sensational free kick scored down at that end.
00:26:07Well, Barcelona's saying that the ball was already set for the goal kick here.
00:26:14And then that is a hand ball.
00:26:16That is what both the players and the fans were unhappy about.
00:26:22At the moment it feels like Atletico are playing with a man less.
00:26:27Barcelona monopolizing possession.
00:26:30And...
00:26:31Yamal.
00:26:32That'll reach Rashford.
00:26:34He's done very well.
00:26:38He's hoping for a corner, which he's won.
00:26:42There's always a chance that it'll turn into a real strap when you're up against Simeone's Atletico.
00:26:47And Barcelona have shown that they are up for the fight.
00:26:52Flicked across.
00:26:53Oh, how did that not go in?
00:26:54Dani Olmo.
00:26:56Caught on his heels.
00:26:59Well, the near post flick from Gabi was excellent.
00:27:03Agonizing.
00:27:06Jurete.
00:27:12Atletico might have just weathered that storm at the start of the second half from Barcelona.
00:27:22Friesman pushes it forwards through Sherry's ball.
00:27:25Oh, 2-0.
00:27:28Alexander Serlo.
00:27:30And what a hammer blow that is for Barcelona.
00:27:35They've had to soak up pressure.
00:27:37But there's the sucker punch.
00:27:39The substitute Serlo scores.
00:27:42And Atletico Madrid have a massive chance of making it to the semi-finals now.
00:27:52And Gio Cancelo have had enough loft on that.
00:27:56Oh, but they've got it back here.
00:27:58Gio Cancelo writes one challenge and hits the post.
00:28:03That's just Barcelona's luck this evening.
00:28:06They have had a handful of chances but haven't been able to make any count.
00:28:14That's Nulo.
00:28:30According to ground.
00:28:33drag his side back into the equation and he dragged the ball through a cluster of red and
00:28:39white shirts that's been the story of the night for Barcelona a series of nearly moments
00:28:48situations also when the goalkeeper plays the ball and he touched touched it with the hand
00:28:52come on it's clear clear in the bar I don't know why why he don't don't call I'm not sure
00:28:59why so
00:29:00it's a German guy hello it's unbelievable it's unbelievable are you angry with the referee no I'm
00:29:07not it's this situation okay we all make mistakes it's normal is we make mistakes and I but this
00:29:13situation why we have a bar why why we have a bar and this is this I can understand because
00:29:19normally
00:29:20it's penalty in a red cut double yellow is red he's angry about a penalty that wasn't awarded but
00:29:26actually the game really did turn on a penalty that was oh yeah the red card was was massive
00:29:32sorry the red card was massive in this game because Barcelona for the most part to be honest given the
00:29:37fact that he scored it might as well have been a penalty anyway yeah yeah but I think it was
00:29:40very
00:29:41very impressive in terms of how um that kind of changed the game for Atleti because it gave them
00:29:45some belief because before that they were quite poor but the way the Barcelona play they afford you
00:29:48a lot of space in behind and Simeone is making a great run and unfortunately for Kabarti the centre
00:29:53half legs have been tangled there's no intent to try and make a tackle there but from the moment
00:29:57he does it felt towards like it was going to be a clear sending off initially only got a yellow
00:30:02card
00:30:02and he's unfortunate he's trying his best to get back into position but you've just got to be a little
00:30:06bit more careful in terms of how you run but that's a tough one which we needed twice in the
00:30:11Champions League while still a teenager set off against Benfica last year but that was this free kick
00:30:16from Julian Alvarez like that's like I said it might as well be a penalty the way that he takes
00:30:20his
00:30:20free kicks that is as clean as you like and I'll say to the boys before I've never felt that
00:30:25feeling
00:30:25before to connect with the ball like that that is truly one of the best finishes you'll see
00:30:30the direction of travel before that in the first 44 minutes was Barcelona as always attacking with
00:30:36intent and it was Marcus Rashford who was getting on the end of the best chances yeah I mean he's
00:30:40just
00:30:40a brilliant player isn't he I think what he's done since he's gone to Barcelona is he's found his form
00:30:44I think he's found a happy place where he's enjoying his football um I actually think he should do
00:30:49better in this position as it comes into him with that acceleration touch just gets caught under him
00:30:54ever so slightly and the the strike isn't quite as clean but his movement's brilliant at the moment
00:30:59because what you want from a winger the opposing side is to get in the box get opportunities maybe
00:31:04he can take that down but he's so confident in himself that he wants to take that shot on
00:31:08first time again arriving at the back post great goal that's exactly what you're after Hansi Flick will
00:31:14be delighted with that but when when you're a fullback and you're playing against someone who's got pace
00:31:18who who can time his runs well and know that he can use that pace he's so dangerous in behind
00:31:24here
00:31:25again maybe just a little bit more composure but that confidence that he's got in himself he's taking
00:31:31everything on and you're thinking he's playing alongside Jamal he's the one who's over free kicks
00:31:35he's the one who's trying to be on the ascendancy on the front foot taking people on I think you
00:31:41can see
00:31:41a huge change in character in personality in confidence from an outstanding footballer and I
00:31:48think from Thomas Tuchel's point of view I think it's the best thing that's happened for him next
00:31:52this year because it gives him another option in four positions going into the World Cup yeah it is
00:31:57it is an area isn't it that is a problem for him and we know where he was somewhere else
00:32:01this week in
00:32:02the Champions League of course Thomas Tuchel but he had his eye all over that performance
00:32:06Diego Simeone finally getting his win as a manager at the camp now and it's been 20 years since
00:32:13Atletico have actually had a win there yeah he'd only just left as a player when they last won
00:32:17um I think there's 18 attempts that he's he's had at camp now to win he won at Monjuic when
00:32:22they were
00:32:22playing when they were renovating the stadium so that you're not counting that that kind of spoils it
00:32:26a little bit we're going to ignore it but yeah 18 attempts at camp now and they've played each other
00:32:31five times already this season Barca and Atleti it's been relatively evenly balanced but that
00:32:35one that's a really big one there is this question mark over whether this might be Simeone's last
00:32:40season at Atletico Madrid as unthinkable as it is I feel like we've said this before yeah he's been
00:32:44fluttering his eyelashes a little bit into Milan but he does do that occasionally and there's been a
00:32:49lot of changes behind the scenes at Atletico they've got American ownership now you wonder if he
00:32:52might think that what 15 years is enough if he could get them to the semi-finals maybe even to
00:32:58the
00:32:58final that would be that's the one thing he's not done he's been really close before but that's the
00:33:03kind of well the owners are not with Barcelona are they because when they've lost their first leg the
00:33:08last three times in two-legged ties they've not won the tie so who knows could be his year okay
00:33:13uh Premier League leaders Arsenal travelled to Lisbon on the back of two straight defeats
00:33:18first in the League Cup final and then at Southampton in Saturday's FA Cup quarterfinal
00:33:22Mikel Arteta's side took on Sporting who've won five out of five at home in this season's Champions
00:33:28League commentary comes from Stephen Wilson
00:33:32those five Sporting wins here this season include one over PSG so Arsenal would do well to be wary
00:33:40against the club which ended their 2013 Europa League campaign though in last season's Champions
00:33:46League Arsenal won here 5-1 Sporting captain Morten Hulman is suspended and replaced by Jao Sinouis
00:33:54still no timber Eze Osaka for Arsenal Madwek here Trosada either side of Victor Jokeres who returns to
00:34:02Sporting for whom he scored 97 times in just 102 games
00:34:11Arsenal from left to right in the first half
00:34:19outside of the boot passes brilliant and here's an opportunity great save
00:34:29what a pass that is that is an extraordinary ball from Diamant
00:34:35Oroko really caught it there's definitely a little touch from Dabby Dreyer
00:34:53Oroko fouled by Maxi Oroko it's going to be a free kick to Arsenal in a good position
00:35:04Odegaard's delivery oh goodness me well that really could have gone anywhere
00:35:12Jokeres gets a touch on this and Diamand as well
00:35:21oh and it's come off the crossbar and Odegaard well Madwek's corner is straight onto the face of
00:35:29the bar no one gets a touch on that
00:35:39Gabriel
00:35:40Gabriel
00:35:43Lokeres just about onside and the shot sneaks in
00:35:52Zubamendi puts it in the back of the sporting net for Arsenal
00:35:58well there's going to be a check here now as this ball is played into
00:36:05Jokeres he has to be in an offside position I'm surprised that isn't given in normal play to be
00:36:11honest with you Zubamendi puts it in the back of the net quite beautifully actually but it's offside
00:36:27Ivan Fresneda
00:36:33Suarez
00:36:35he's done well to get away from Calafiore and the head is chipped around
00:36:41really good play by Suarez
00:36:43Catamo gets himself into a good position
00:36:45and David Rea had to adjust quickly
00:36:57Martinelli
00:36:58well watched by Rui Silva
00:37:01decent hit by Gabriel Martinelli this
00:37:11might be a break on here
00:37:13Jenny Catamo
00:37:14he's got three square of him
00:37:16Catamo
00:37:17and saved by Rea
00:37:19and Suarez can't bundle it over the line
00:37:23it's a good piece of goalkeeping by David Rea that
00:37:27he saved the first effort couldn't hold it but then he did really well to prevent Luis Suarez from putting
00:37:34away the rebound
00:37:44Martinelli's done well
00:37:45Martinelli clips a great ball in
00:37:47and Arsenal have won it right at the end
00:37:50Kai Havertz scores a brilliant goal
00:37:53Gabriel Martinelli with some genius
00:37:57and Kai Havertz applies the finish
00:38:00and Arsenal take the lead in stoppage time at the end of the first leg
00:38:06there'll be no offside flag here it's a brilliant ball into Havertz and such a composed finish
00:38:14Sporting nil
00:38:15Arsenal 1
00:38:17he loves the big occasion and the big games
00:38:19and that's what we need
00:38:21the big players to turn up
00:38:22when we need them
00:38:22and to win us again
00:38:25at the moment
00:38:26he's phenomenal
00:38:27he's been extraordinary
00:38:28since he joined us
00:38:29and we are very lucky to have him
00:38:31it's half time
00:38:32we are a step closer
00:38:34now we need to finish the tie at home
00:38:36in front of our people
00:38:37and if we do that
00:38:39we're going to start to dream
00:38:41well it was the fourth time
00:38:42that Arsenal subs have combined
00:38:44in the Champions League this season
00:38:45to score a goal
00:38:46a very important goal
00:38:48and we're getting to the strength and depth of this squad
00:38:51but you know
00:38:52it just shows you exactly why they've strengthened in the way they have
00:38:55100%
00:38:56I think in years gone by
00:38:57we've seen them fall off quite a little bit
00:38:59once you start making some of those substitutions
00:39:01but these guys are proving to be key for them
00:39:02not just in this game
00:39:03but throughout the season
00:39:04as you can see here
00:39:05this is the 91st minute of the game
00:39:06and the energy of Martinelli
00:39:07and then the composure of Kai Havertz
00:39:09what a great such that was
00:39:11and then to finish it in that manner
00:39:12that feels like a huge goal
00:39:14for the tie
00:39:15and arguably just for Arsenal in general
00:39:16given the fact they've lost their two previous games
00:39:18and that's what you want
00:39:19when you look at those players
00:39:20coming off the bench for you
00:39:21if you're Arteta
00:39:22if you're the fans
00:39:23if you're other teammates on the pitch
00:39:24you want them to have an impact
00:39:25you don't want them to just be coming on
00:39:26and doing the same thing
00:39:27and they've managed to do that
00:39:29and as we say
00:39:29that's such a
00:39:30well we don't know yet
00:39:32but it feels like a hugely significant goal
00:39:34for them in this moment
00:39:35especially coming off the back
00:39:36of the results that they had
00:39:38and they now have the most goals and assists
00:39:40by substitutes in Europe's
00:39:42big five leagues
00:39:44and you know
00:39:45when you look at the players
00:39:46that are in those teams below them
00:39:48and PSG actually
00:39:49had got a really good record themselves
00:39:50hadn't they
00:39:51of bringing players off the bench
00:39:52and making a difference
00:39:53and it's why they are
00:39:55many people's favourites
00:39:56in this competition
00:39:57Yeah I think that was the big thing
00:39:58was how can you affect a game
00:40:00if Saka's not playing well
00:40:01you can bring on Maraweke
00:40:02if Martinelli's not playing on
00:40:04you have Trossard
00:40:05and vice versa
00:40:05and then centre forward position
00:40:07you've got Jokeres
00:40:08Jesus
00:40:09Havertz
00:40:10so there's plenty of options
00:40:11in those forward areas
00:40:12but there's also good options
00:40:13in midfield as well
00:40:14creativity
00:40:16stopping the game
00:40:17you've got Ezra and Odegaard
00:40:18in those midfield areas
00:40:19so I think when you're
00:40:21when you're a player
00:40:21in that
00:40:22or in the changing room
00:40:23and you look round
00:40:24and you think
00:40:24yeah we've got options here
00:40:25to win a game
00:40:26it's perfect
00:40:27Yeah I think Arteta realised
00:40:29over the last three years
00:40:30that they've lost players
00:40:31at key times to injury
00:40:32which happens
00:40:33it's part of the season
00:40:34and to try and
00:40:35kind of bulletproof his team
00:40:37I guess
00:40:37from the same thing
00:40:38happening this year
00:40:39they now have two
00:40:40sometimes three players
00:40:41in every position
00:40:42and whether they can
00:40:43hit the same heights
00:40:44as some of the other teams
00:40:45that we've seen
00:40:46in the Champions League
00:40:47I don't know
00:40:47but in terms of
00:40:48their durability
00:40:49I don't think there's
00:40:50anyone like them
00:40:51they have options
00:40:52they've got so much cover
00:40:53in so many places
00:40:54that they should be able
00:40:55to last the course
00:40:56and David Raya
00:40:57was back
00:40:57and back
00:40:58in scintillating form
00:41:00of course
00:41:00Kepa had played
00:41:01in those cup games
00:41:01and he was player
00:41:03of the match
00:41:03and what a performance
00:41:04and we're going to use Stephen
00:41:05because of your previous experience
00:41:07of playing in goal
00:41:08a lot of people don't know
00:41:08I was in England
00:41:09I was in England
00:41:09under 15
00:41:10substituting goals
00:41:11so I thought
00:41:11this is the time
00:41:12to step up to the plate
00:41:13but this is
00:41:14I mean Raya's
00:41:14an exceptional goalkeeper
00:41:16gets the tiniest
00:41:17of touches
00:41:18that was on six minutes
00:41:19it's just a phenomenal save
00:41:20I mean the reflexes
00:41:21he's not the tallest
00:41:22but the reflexes
00:41:24are very quick
00:41:24strong hands
00:41:25making sure
00:41:26that he's getting that
00:41:27onto the crossbar
00:41:27but these are the moments
00:41:29as well
00:41:29where you've got
00:41:30Katamo here
00:41:31with a little flick header
00:41:33at the near post
00:41:33these are the ones
00:41:34that can often
00:41:35catch you out
00:41:35it's great footwork
00:41:36it's the agility
00:41:37to get down low
00:41:38but again
00:41:39not parming it out
00:41:40into the wrong area
00:41:41making sure
00:41:41that is a strong hand
00:41:43comes from behind Gabriel
00:41:44so he doesn't actually
00:41:45see that
00:41:45it's instinctive
00:41:47it's reactional
00:41:47it's a brilliant save
00:41:50and then Katamo again
00:41:51down this right hand side
00:41:53gets the shot away
00:41:55and he spills this one
00:41:56but this is what they train for
00:41:57every single day
00:41:58they'll be doing drills
00:41:59like that all the time
00:42:00where they do spill it
00:42:01how quickly can you react
00:42:03how quickly can you get up
00:42:04make sure you save it
00:42:05it's a smart save
00:42:07he's saving it from
00:42:08has scored 25 and 26
00:42:09so you know
00:42:10he knows the back of the net
00:42:11doesn't he
00:42:11now this is interesting
00:42:13because this is from
00:42:14the beginning of last season
00:42:15he's actually prevented
00:42:17nine goals
00:42:18and that puts him
00:42:19top of the pops
00:42:19in terms of Champions League
00:42:20shot stoppers
00:42:22and he keeps good company
00:42:23in that list
00:42:24well we talk about
00:42:24squad depth
00:42:25what you also need
00:42:26is an outstanding goalkeeper
00:42:28we've seen it
00:42:29throughout the Champions League
00:42:30when you think of
00:42:31the Real Madrid teams
00:42:32that have won over recent years
00:42:33Courtois arguably
00:42:34being the best player
00:42:35throughout the competition
00:42:36so important to have
00:42:37a solid goalkeeper
00:42:38so often the team
00:42:39that wins the Champions League
00:42:40is the team that has
00:42:41the most clean sheets
00:42:42as well
00:42:42they've had seven
00:42:43in the Champions League
00:42:43so far this season
00:42:44yeah I think that
00:42:45becomes even more true
00:42:46doesn't it
00:42:46in the latter stages
00:42:48when you need to stop
00:42:49some of those
00:42:49really fearsome attacks
00:42:50you need to find a way
00:42:51of shutting them down
00:42:52and goalkeeper central to that
00:42:53psychologically
00:42:53and contextually
00:42:55that was such an
00:42:56important goal as well
00:42:57taking a goalless draw back
00:42:58would be great
00:42:59back home
00:42:59but obviously
00:43:00having the win
00:43:01after those two defeats
00:43:03yeah I think
00:43:04it must have had
00:43:05a little bit of an impact
00:43:06on the psychology
00:43:06of Arsenal's squad
00:43:07they've had this
00:43:08almost flawless season
00:43:09they've passed so many tests
00:43:10over the course of the last
00:43:11seven, eight months
00:43:11to lose two games
00:43:13on the bounce
00:43:13especially the manner
00:43:14of the defeat
00:43:14at Southampton
00:43:15will have been a
00:43:16challenge for them
00:43:16and now they can look at
00:43:18you know
00:43:18an interesting final
00:43:19couple of months
00:43:20the City game is massive
00:43:21Bournemouth this weekend
00:43:23is huge
00:43:23they're going to have to
00:43:24think about
00:43:25using the entire depth
00:43:27of that squad
00:43:27around the semi-finals
00:43:28should they get through
00:43:29which we expect them to
00:43:30Newcastle, Fulham
00:43:31and West Ham
00:43:31who'll be fighting
00:43:32relegation at that stage
00:43:34there's a lot more to come
00:43:35you know
00:43:35this is the difficult bit
00:43:36this is stressful
00:43:37but Arsenal probably
00:43:38have the resources to cope
00:43:39just being there last night
00:43:40and how David Rea
00:43:41was in the pitch side
00:43:42studio with us
00:43:43at the end
00:43:44and he talked about
00:43:44the hurt
00:43:45from losing those two
00:43:46finals
00:43:46and the pain
00:43:47in the club
00:43:47and you know
00:43:48and actually said
00:43:49we want to win
00:43:50this competition
00:43:51and the league
00:43:51which you don't often hear
00:43:52players kind of admitting
00:43:54at this stage of the season
00:43:55so it feels like
00:43:56it's galvanised them
00:43:58yeah I would say so
00:43:59and I think it's the fact
00:43:59that they are so close
00:44:00I think look at them
00:44:01in the semi-final last year
00:44:02losing out to PSG
00:44:04they know that they're
00:44:05capable of doing it
00:44:06so I think I like the fact
00:44:07that he's come forward
00:44:08and said that
00:44:08OK to the Bernabeu now
00:44:11for a heavyweight meeting
00:44:12between Real Madrid
00:44:13and Bayern Munich
00:44:13the most played fixture
00:44:15in the history
00:44:15of the European Cup
00:44:16and Steve Bauer
00:44:17watch this one
00:44:20these two clubs
00:44:21have won the competition
00:44:2321 times between them
00:44:25the last four times
00:44:26Real Madrid have eliminated
00:44:27Bayern
00:44:28they've gone on
00:44:29to lift the trophy
00:44:30Jude Bellingham
00:44:31remains a substitute
00:44:32on his way back
00:44:33from injury
00:44:34while the Champions League
00:44:35top scorer this season
00:44:36Kylian Mbappe
00:44:37has gone five games
00:44:39without a goal
00:44:40no such issues
00:44:41for Harry Kane
00:44:42who returns
00:44:43from his ankle injury
00:44:44looking to add to his
00:44:4648 buying goals
00:44:48so far this season
00:44:54Kimmich
00:44:58that's a Bayern free kick
00:45:10Kimmich
00:45:12to Luis Dias
00:45:15then in from Kimmich
00:45:17towards Harry Kane
00:45:18who played it back
00:45:19and up a Meccano
00:45:20couldn't force it
00:45:21over the line
00:45:22that was a nervous moment
00:45:24for Real Madrid
00:45:24Real Madrid have it back
00:45:30Gula
00:45:30lovely feet
00:45:31Mbappe
00:45:35he's found Benicis Junior
00:45:37who's cutting in
00:45:38and denied by Neuer
00:45:40strong left hand
00:45:42from Neuer
00:45:43how many times
00:45:44have we seen this
00:45:45from Vinicis Junior
00:45:52oh my word
00:45:54what a mistake
00:45:55and the young man
00:45:57Thiago Pitosh
00:45:58hasn't been punished
00:46:01goodness me
00:46:07they've lived dangerously
00:46:09a couple of times
00:46:09already around Madrid
00:46:12here's Valverde
00:46:13Mbappe on the move
00:46:14it's Kylian Mbappe
00:46:17Neuer's at it again
00:46:20Manuel Neuer's been equal
00:46:22to everything so far
00:46:23now at the angle
00:46:24another good strong hand
00:46:26to that
00:46:32Kimmich won it back
00:46:33now Gnabry
00:46:36Harry Kane
00:46:38Gnabry's got men over
00:46:40Diaz
00:46:48devastating from Bayern
00:46:52Louis Diaz
00:46:55has his 23rd goal
00:46:58for Bayern Munich
00:46:59and it's a big one
00:47:01in this quarterfinal
00:47:04it's this pass here
00:47:06from Gnabry that does it
00:47:08first time
00:47:09ice cool finish
00:47:11from the Colombian
00:47:13periods of assurance
00:47:15in this first half
00:47:16are rewarded with the first goal
00:47:18Real Madrid 0
00:47:20Bayern 1
00:47:23absorbing encounter
00:47:25in the Bernabeu
00:47:26straight away
00:47:28Bayern win it back
00:47:30with Pavlovich
00:47:31Alise
00:47:33squaring it to Kane
00:47:35oh what a start
00:47:3820 seconds
00:47:40into the second half
00:47:44Harry Kane
00:47:46doubles Bayern's advantage
00:47:49with his 49th
00:47:52goal of this
00:47:53incredible season
00:47:56and how important
00:47:57could it be
00:47:58in the context
00:48:00of this two-legged
00:48:03quarterfinal
00:48:04a disastrous start
00:48:06to the second half
00:48:07for Real Madrid
00:48:08but for Bayern
00:48:09they are 2-0 up
00:48:18oh up and Meccano's mistake
00:48:20Vinicius Junior
00:48:22can he get past
00:48:23Neuer
00:48:25into the side
00:48:27netting
00:48:28what an opportunity
00:48:30to get one back
00:48:31for Real Madrid
00:48:34Goula
00:48:38neatly done
00:48:39and here comes
00:48:41Bellingham
00:48:41into Mbappe
00:48:43and again
00:48:46denied by Neuer
00:48:49much better
00:48:50from Real Madrid
00:48:51though
00:48:51Bellingham
00:48:52at the heart
00:48:53out of it
00:48:54full stretch there
00:48:55the Bayern skipper
00:49:03to find Mbappe
00:49:05Benicius Junior
00:49:08Kylian Mbappe
00:49:15another opportunity
00:49:17goes begging
00:49:21just couldn't
00:49:22quite get the
00:49:23angle right
00:49:29and Verne
00:49:31goes on the
00:49:32overlap
00:49:33first time
00:49:35cross
00:49:35Mbappe
00:49:40it crossed the line
00:49:43and this time
00:49:45this season's
00:49:47Champions League
00:49:47top scorer
00:49:48does score
00:49:52and Real Madrid
00:49:54do have a reply
00:49:58he's 14th
00:50:00in the competition
00:50:01this season
00:50:05fabulous assist
00:50:06from Alexander
00:50:07Arnold as well
00:50:08and Neuer
00:50:09is finally beaten
00:50:16managed to get
00:50:17over the line
00:50:17I mean Neuer
00:50:18did get a hand
00:50:19to that
00:50:22well Real Madrid
00:50:23knew they had
00:50:24to score
00:50:24and they have
00:50:25but here's Kane
00:50:25at the other end
00:50:30not straightforward
00:50:32but not beyond
00:50:33the realms
00:50:34for a man
00:50:35of his impeccable
00:50:37standards
00:50:40sometimes
00:50:42ties disappoint
00:50:43this has been
00:50:44anything but
00:50:48100 free kick
00:50:50time is of the
00:50:51essence
00:50:53Mbappe
00:50:54another running
00:50:55away from him
00:50:56it's Mbappe
00:50:58oh Neuer didn't
00:51:00move
00:51:02King Mbappe
00:51:03thought that
00:51:04was in
00:51:06watch them
00:51:07back off
00:51:10that's how
00:51:11close it was
00:51:12just drifting
00:51:13the wrong side
00:51:14of the post
00:51:18well for the
00:51:19first time
00:51:20in 10 attempts
00:51:21Bayern Munich
00:51:23have beaten
00:51:24Real Madrid
00:51:25it
00:51:25and it is
00:51:27the
00:51:27Bundesliga
00:51:28champions
00:51:28who take
00:51:29the advantage
00:51:30to Bavaria
00:51:32next week
00:51:34in what will
00:51:35be full of
00:51:36intrigue again
00:51:37because it's
00:51:38finished in the
00:51:39Bernabeu
00:51:40Real Madrid
00:51:411
00:51:41Bayern 2
00:51:46I mean it's
00:51:47a good result
00:51:48it feels like
00:51:50half time
00:51:50so we have
00:51:52time to
00:51:53recover our
00:51:54energy
00:51:55focus
00:51:55and in the
00:51:56right moment
00:51:58I hope that
00:51:58when we play
00:51:59at home
00:51:59with the help
00:52:00of our fans
00:52:00we'll put in
00:52:02a good performance
00:52:03to go to the
00:52:03next round
00:52:05it was a
00:52:05cracking game
00:52:06and we're going
00:52:07to discuss
00:52:07Harry Kane
00:52:08in just a
00:52:08moment
00:52:08but Nadem's
00:52:09at the
00:52:09screen
00:52:09and he's
00:52:10going to
00:52:10have a
00:52:10look at
00:52:11another one
00:52:11of Bayern's
00:52:12standout
00:52:13performers
00:52:13this season
00:52:15yeah thank you
00:52:15very much
00:52:16Gabby
00:52:16so we're
00:52:17going to
00:52:17talk now
00:52:17about the
00:52:17former
00:52:18Crystal Palace
00:52:18winger
00:52:19Michael
00:52:19Alisse
00:52:20lighting up
00:52:21the stage
00:52:21in the
00:52:22Champions League
00:52:22knockouts
00:52:23for Bayern
00:52:23Munich
00:52:24against
00:52:24Real Madrid
00:52:25against
00:52:25Real Madrid
00:52:26what a
00:52:27performance
00:52:27this was
00:52:27from him
00:52:28and what I
00:52:28loved is
00:52:29the fact
00:52:29that he
00:52:29started the
00:52:30game
00:52:30with the
00:52:30intent
00:52:30that was
00:52:30going to
00:52:31be there
00:52:31throughout
00:52:31get the
00:52:32ball
00:52:32go and
00:52:33take it
00:52:33towards
00:52:33the
00:52:34footback
00:52:34and thinking
00:52:35he's going
00:52:35to go
00:52:35inside
00:52:36he's going
00:52:36to go
00:52:36outside
00:52:36he can
00:52:37decide
00:52:37for himself
00:52:38because his
00:52:38quality is
00:52:39so high
00:52:39and here
00:52:40he finishes
00:52:40by winning
00:52:41a free
00:52:41kick
00:52:41and then
00:52:42later on
00:52:43he gets
00:52:43the ball
00:52:43he's just
00:52:44come inside
00:52:44onto his
00:52:45stronger
00:52:45left foot
00:52:45well
00:52:45sure
00:52:46he won't
00:52:46go down
00:52:47the line
00:52:47yes he
00:52:47absolutely
00:52:48will
00:52:48and a
00:52:49great
00:52:49cross
00:52:49into the
00:52:50box
00:52:50which was
00:52:50headed
00:52:50away
00:52:51well
00:52:51by
00:52:51Rudiger
00:52:52and I
00:52:53think
00:52:53for
00:52:53Alisse
00:53:00I knew
00:53:01the
00:53:01qualities
00:53:02there
00:53:02and that
00:53:02ball
00:53:02to Harry
00:53:02Kane
00:53:03it looks
00:53:04simple
00:53:04because he
00:53:04makes it
00:53:05simple
00:53:05with real
00:53:05quality
00:53:06again
00:53:07getting a
00:53:07chance
00:53:07to go
00:53:07down
00:53:07the line
00:53:08here
00:53:08a left
00:53:08footer
00:53:09coming
00:53:09inside
00:53:09going
00:53:09outside
00:53:10and here
00:53:11staying
00:53:11patient
00:53:11biding
00:53:12his time
00:53:12and just
00:53:13slowing down
00:53:14the fullback
00:53:14sometimes it's
00:53:15quick
00:53:15sometimes it's
00:53:16slow
00:53:16a stab
00:53:16a fake
00:53:16and then a
00:53:17coming
00:53:17side
00:53:18and before
00:53:18you know
00:53:18it
00:53:19the speed
00:53:19is there
00:53:19always looking
00:53:20to end
00:53:21with a positive
00:53:21action
00:53:22and here
00:53:22we see him
00:53:23have a shot
00:53:23and be
00:53:23disappointed
00:53:23he's not
00:53:24done better
00:53:24with that
00:53:25but I
00:53:25thought he
00:53:26was excellent
00:53:26in this
00:53:27game
00:53:27and it
00:53:27never
00:53:27stopped
00:53:28it
00:53:28never
00:53:28relented
00:53:29a different
00:53:29player for
00:53:30Real Madrid
00:53:30this time
00:53:31but inside
00:53:31he goes
00:53:32and he
00:53:32finishes
00:53:32again
00:53:33with a
00:53:33shot
00:53:33and he
00:53:33would be
00:53:33disappointed
00:53:33to not
00:53:34hit the
00:53:34target
00:53:34with the
00:53:34quality
00:53:35that he
00:53:35has
00:53:35and here
00:53:36he's
00:53:36come a bit
00:53:37more central
00:53:37and he
00:53:38takes his
00:53:38time
00:53:38steps back
00:53:39we've seen
00:53:40him out
00:53:40wide
00:53:40but now
00:53:40he gets
00:53:41the ball
00:53:41looking for
00:53:42a good
00:53:42pass
00:53:43this is a
00:53:43great ball
00:53:44into the
00:53:44box
00:53:45the type
00:53:45of ball
00:53:45that maybe
00:53:46he sees
00:53:46and others
00:53:47don't
00:53:48and I
00:53:48think he
00:53:48was absolutely
00:53:49magnificent
00:53:50in what for
00:53:50me was one
00:53:51of the best
00:53:51games in
00:53:51Champions League
00:53:52this season
00:53:52and I think
00:53:53for Michael
00:53:54Lise as well
00:53:54the player
00:53:55with the most
00:53:55assists in
00:53:56Europe so far
00:53:56this season
00:53:58it's a very
00:53:58very impressive
00:53:59marker that he's
00:54:00put down
00:54:00we expect to see
00:54:01a lot more
00:54:01from him
00:54:01in the
00:54:02coming games
00:54:02as well
00:54:04thank you so
00:54:04much
00:54:04let's have a
00:54:05quick look
00:54:05at the
00:54:06European
00:54:06papers
00:54:07after that
00:54:07colossal
00:54:08clash
00:54:09contra
00:54:09las
00:54:10cuerdas
00:54:11or against
00:54:11the ropes
00:54:12is Mundo
00:54:13Deportivo's
00:54:13headline
00:54:15Madrid
00:54:16with an
00:54:16image of
00:54:16Vinicius
00:54:17Junior
00:54:17with his
00:54:18head in
00:54:18his hands
00:54:19the AS
00:54:20front page
00:54:21is slightly
00:54:21more optimistic
00:54:22they say
00:54:22a goal
00:54:23that brings
00:54:23hope
00:54:24after
00:54:24Kylian Mbappe
00:54:25second half
00:54:26effort
00:54:26halved the
00:54:27deficit
00:54:27and of course
00:54:28the mood
00:54:28was quite
00:54:29different
00:54:29over in
00:54:30Germany
00:54:30with
00:54:30Bills
00:54:31match report
00:54:31carrying
00:54:32the headline
00:54:32Buenos
00:54:33Dias
00:54:33Bayern
00:54:34conquers
00:54:35the
00:54:36Bernabeu
00:54:38Nadam
00:54:3949th goal
00:54:40of the season
00:54:40for Harry
00:54:41Kane
00:54:41Thomas
00:54:41Tuchel
00:54:42as we've
00:54:42mentioned
00:54:43a little bit
00:54:43earlier on
00:54:43the programme
00:54:44was there
00:54:44watching that
00:54:45one
00:54:45he knows
00:54:46what his
00:54:46player can
00:54:47do
00:54:47but he'd
00:54:48just be happy
00:54:48to see him
00:54:49on the pitch
00:54:49scoring and
00:54:50fit
00:54:50yeah
00:54:50absolutely
00:54:51I think
00:54:51given the
00:54:51fact that
00:54:52he didn't
00:54:52get any
00:54:53minutes in
00:54:53this last
00:54:53international
00:54:54break
00:54:54to see him
00:54:55back and
00:54:55being fit
00:54:56and doing
00:54:56what he's
00:54:57done so so
00:54:57well this
00:54:58year
00:54:58it's a
00:54:59great omen
00:54:59for say
00:55:00Kane
00:55:00for England
00:55:01and what
00:55:01could potentially
00:55:01happen this
00:55:02summer
00:55:02I don't think
00:55:03it was at
00:55:03his absolute
00:55:03best in my
00:55:04opinion
00:55:04but the fact
00:55:05is when
00:55:06the moment
00:55:06was there
00:55:06for him
00:55:06lo and
00:55:07behold
00:55:07he did
00:55:07exactly
00:55:08what he
00:55:08does
00:55:08as well
00:55:08yeah
00:55:08there's been
00:55:09talk of
00:55:09like a
00:55:10minor ankle
00:55:11problem
00:55:11so he didn't
00:55:12start the
00:55:13away game
00:55:14against Atalanta
00:55:14in the last
00:55:15round
00:55:15he missed
00:55:15a game
00:55:16against
00:55:16Freiburg
00:55:16at the
00:55:17weekend
00:55:18he's been
00:55:18in and out
00:55:19and obviously
00:55:19the England
00:55:20camp he didn't
00:55:20play
00:55:21Bayern are clearly
00:55:22managing
00:55:22the Harry Kane
00:55:24fitness issue
00:55:24I mean this is
00:55:25like what
00:55:25three months
00:55:25before a
00:55:26world cup
00:55:26this all
00:55:27feels very
00:55:27familiar
00:55:28the England
00:55:29captain's
00:55:29got an injury
00:55:30to manage
00:55:31but Bayern
00:55:32I think
00:55:33need to
00:55:33manage it
00:55:34but you saw
00:55:35at the
00:55:35Bernabeu
00:55:36how important
00:55:36he is to
00:55:37Bayern
00:55:37he is their
00:55:37cutting edge
00:55:38he's the
00:55:39player that
00:55:39makes the
00:55:39difference
00:55:40it suits
00:55:40England
00:55:40that Bayern
00:55:41are managing
00:55:41him well
00:55:42as well
00:55:42yeah it's
00:55:43synergy
00:55:45everyone's
00:55:45sitting from
00:55:45the same
00:55:46him sheet
00:55:46it's nice
00:55:46and on
00:55:47more England
00:55:48news
00:55:48a more England
00:55:49watch for
00:55:50Thomas Tuchel
00:55:50of course
00:55:51he'd had his
00:55:51eye all over
00:55:52Trent
00:55:52what did you
00:55:53make of his
00:55:53performance
00:55:54yeah I mean
00:55:55one thing we
00:55:55know about
00:55:56Trent is he
00:55:57divides opinion
00:55:57and Thomas
00:55:58Tuchel is at
00:55:59the moment
00:55:59saying that
00:56:00he's not
00:56:00in his
00:56:01plans for
00:56:02England
00:56:03and what
00:56:03we'll see
00:56:04is the
00:56:04bad side
00:56:05of Trent
00:56:05which is
00:56:06the defensive
00:56:06side
00:56:07he sees
00:56:07where
00:56:07Luis Diaz
00:56:08is here
00:56:08so he's
00:56:09got an
00:56:09eye on him
00:56:10then he
00:56:10doesn't get
00:56:11back in
00:56:11quick enough
00:56:12this position
00:56:12now
00:56:13when you
00:56:14watch
00:56:14Unai Emery
00:56:15talk about
00:56:16his defenders
00:56:17he spins
00:56:18them round
00:56:18the other
00:56:18way so
00:56:19they actually
00:56:19see the
00:56:20man
00:56:21if you
00:56:21can see
00:56:22the
00:56:22defender's
00:56:23number
00:56:23you're in
00:56:24trouble as
00:56:25a defender
00:56:25and Luis
00:56:26Diaz can
00:56:27make that
00:56:27run at
00:56:28any time
00:56:28he wants
00:56:29because he
00:56:29can set
00:56:30off
00:56:30and Trent
00:56:31does not
00:56:32know what
00:56:32he's doing
00:56:32but this
00:56:33is the
00:56:33other side
00:56:34of Trent
00:56:34this ball
00:56:35is unbelievable
00:56:36just puts it
00:56:37into an area
00:56:38where upper
00:56:38Meccano is
00:56:39thinking
00:56:40if I touch
00:56:41this
00:56:41it's going
00:56:42into my
00:56:42own goal
00:56:42the goalkeeper
00:56:43is thinking
00:56:44if I go out
00:56:44and push it
00:56:45out
00:56:45I'm going to
00:56:46push it
00:56:46into
00:56:47Prangar
00:56:48series
00:56:48running
00:56:48and there's
00:56:51an opportunity
00:56:52so it's
00:56:52such a
00:56:53difficult
00:56:53ball
00:56:53but we
00:56:54know that
00:56:54quality
00:56:55he possesses
00:56:55that wasn't
00:56:56the only
00:56:56ball
00:56:57he played
00:56:57in the
00:56:57game
00:56:57his influence
00:56:59when he's
00:56:59in possession
00:57:00is huge
00:57:01I mean
00:57:02personally
00:57:02I would be
00:57:03taking him
00:57:04to the
00:57:04World Cup
00:57:04because I
00:57:05just think
00:57:05even in
00:57:06games where
00:57:07you need
00:57:07that quality
00:57:08something to
00:57:09happen
00:57:09whether you
00:57:10do push
00:57:10him into
00:57:10a little bit
00:57:11more of a
00:57:11midfield role
00:57:12or somewhere
00:57:12I just think
00:57:13there's got to
00:57:14be a place
00:57:14for him
00:57:15that was
00:57:15Mbappe's
00:57:1514th
00:57:16Champions League
00:57:17goal of the
00:57:17season
00:57:17even if they
00:57:18don't go on
00:57:19and progress
00:57:19through this
00:57:20time he's
00:57:20likely to
00:57:21finish top
00:57:21isn't he
00:57:22because I
00:57:22think he's
00:57:22about four
00:57:23or five
00:57:24goals above
00:57:24the next
00:57:25player down
00:57:25but anyway
00:57:26Jude Bellingham
00:57:27also came
00:57:28on and that
00:57:29was positive
00:57:30news for
00:57:30Thomas Tuchel
00:57:31yeah he was
00:57:31really influential
00:57:32when he was
00:57:32on the pitch
00:57:32I think there was
00:57:34a little bit
00:57:34of controversy
00:57:35over the fact
00:57:35he didn't
00:57:36start it
00:57:36seems relatively
00:57:36obvious to me
00:57:37he's clearly
00:57:38not at full
00:57:38fitness yet
00:57:39I don't think
00:57:40Alvaro Abolo
00:57:41prefers an
00:57:4218 year old
00:57:42midfielder
00:57:43over Jude
00:57:43Bellingham
00:57:44but he did
00:57:45kind of do
00:57:45enough in
00:57:45those 30
00:57:46minutes to
00:57:46suggest that
00:57:47when he's
00:57:47in the team
00:57:48in Munich
00:57:49next week
00:57:49which we
00:57:50presume he
00:57:50will be
00:57:50it does
00:57:51kind of
00:57:52change the
00:57:52balance of
00:57:53the tie a
00:57:53little bit
00:57:53I think
00:57:54Alvaro himself
00:57:55you mentioned
00:57:56him there
00:57:56and he's
00:57:57never been
00:57:58told he's
00:57:58got the
00:57:58job permanent
00:57:59he's always
00:57:59been kind
00:57:59of an
00:58:00interim
00:58:00but that
00:58:01defeat
00:58:02means that
00:58:02his win
00:58:04percentage
00:58:04is only
00:58:05just below
00:58:06Alonso
00:58:07but actually
00:58:08he's lost
00:58:08more games
00:58:09sorry he's
00:58:09lost as
00:58:09many games
00:58:10in less
00:58:11time
00:58:11so it's
00:58:13taken him
00:58:13less time
00:58:13to lose
00:58:14as many
