00:07:37when you get into the lives of some of these beautiful people we learned that the struggles

00:08:13born and raised there and i'm 22 years old tell us a little bit about yourself goodness i was
00:08:20raised by my grandma um i've had a great childhood and the fact that i'm here right now is it's

00:08:25awesome i'm really excited so good since i was two years old i was put into full custody
00:08:31with my grandma and i grew up calling her mom
00:08:36she is an amazing woman i mean i was a mischievous kid i put her through so much
00:08:45whoever i am reaches back to her always he was a kicker on the football team in high school
00:08:51played basketball and then all of a sudden he started playing the guitar he taught himself
00:08:57he's just really good he's very talented
00:09:04she made my life feel so normal and sacrificed so much for me she's my rock
00:09:10does he know that you're here no when he left i told him i was really sorry i couldn't be
00:09:17there for
00:09:18him and he said i understand and i just think that it was important to him and i'm
00:09:28i'm gonna cry and i think i really want to be there for him what are you going to be
00:09:34singing for
00:09:35us today i am singing a song a very meaningful song i wrote it it's called strong and i lost
00:09:43my
00:09:43biological mom when i was two years old my dad ended my mom's life oh oh it's about seeing my
00:09:51mom's picture for the first time and not knowing her and just kind of looking at a stranger and just
00:09:56pouring out my emotions of that through this song

00:24:40life but uh i used to hate
00:24:42home when i was growing up
00:24:43you know after coal crashed
00:24:45you know a lot of stuff was
00:24:46taken away and i was the
00:24:48first generation to really
00:24:48experience a hazard with not
00:24:50a lot
00:24:51when i first moved out of
00:24:52kentucky started playing
00:24:53college soccer
00:24:54and uh you know i started
00:24:56missing home
00:24:56tell me why did you run
00:24:59obviously being from
00:25:00southeast kentucky bluegrass
00:25:01is our genre
00:25:02and i started listening to
00:25:03the old albums you know
00:25:04and every time i hear it
00:25:05it transforms me back to
00:25:06the mountains whether i'm
00:25:07in cleveland or nashville
00:25:09it really transforms me
00:25:10back home
00:25:10but if you're
00:25:11you know listening to
00:25:14bluegrass really made me
00:25:14realize that i took
00:25:15appalachia for advantage
00:25:16for many years when i lived
00:25:17there and now i've changed
00:25:19i'm here 100 percent to
00:25:21represent appalachia when i
00:25:23play the music that's the
00:25:23sound of home when they see
00:25:24me that's the look of home
00:25:25and i walk with it every day
00:25:27you know i carry dirt from
00:25:28home on my boots
00:25:29i carry home with me
00:25:30and i carry here to
00:25:32american idol because i'm
00:25:33proud of it

00:27:19in other genres i think i can do about every genre i love music all across the board not just
00:27:26bluegrass because where i'm from but i love every bit of music
00:27:29you're old school as you can be i like your vibe thank you i just want to make sure that
00:27:33you
00:27:33understand in that character that you have of your voice you're going to have to take us on
00:27:38that journey where we don't get too comfortable knowing what you're going to do
00:27:43you're going to have to kind of guide us through it vocally i'm a little skeptical
00:27:48there was some stuff you did at the end where you had a little vibrato in there and
00:27:51it was really nice so i think you're still exploring a lot with your voice
00:27:57i feel like you deserve a chance to to prove yourself
00:28:01but if you should make it through you're going to have to work on your delivery and pulling us in
00:28:06and some of the softer tones just really emoting
00:28:11it's a yes for me i would like to see what you do

01:14:37We've grew up watching American Idol and he's really turned to music
01:14:42Kind of as his way of getting his feelings off his chest

01:14:49Yeah, I just feel so fortunate, like I'm so blessed, I've been given the greatest family in the world

01:15:34But it started to take a turn when I was 10 years old, my mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
