Thomas and Oscar look like the “everything worked out” version of a gay couple. Thomas shoots photos for a living, Oscar works in acting, they’re genuinely in love, and then their long-awaited chance at a child finally lands. For a hot minute, it’s almost annoying how happy they are.
Then a court steps in. Their adopted son is supposed to go back to his birth mother. Just like that, the fairytale paperwork ends and the emotional math starts. Thomas spirals, Oscar buries himself in work, and the big question becomes uncomfortable: do they even agree on what “family” is supposed to mean anymore?
The film’s real comfort blanket is their circle of friends. Especially Leah, Thomas’s best friend, and her partner, who stick around when the future stops looking guaranteed.

Thomas und Oscar wirken wie der perfekte Familien-Postkartenentwurf. Fotograf und Schauspieler, verliebt, und dann klappt auch noch der lange ersehnte Kinderwunsch. Wirklich. Zu schön, um wahr zu sein. Denn plötzlich kommt das Gericht und entscheidet, dass ihr kleiner Adoptivsohn zurück zu seiner leiblichen Mutter muss. Von jetzt auf gleich kippt die gemeinsame Zukunft. Thomas rutscht in eine Krise, Oscar flüchtet sich in Arbeit und tut so, als würde man Gefühle einfach wegplanen können. Währenddessen fragt sich Thomas, ob sie als Paar jemals die Familie bauen können, die er sich so sehr wünscht. Die Rettungsleine ist ihr Freundeskreis. Vor allem Leah, Thomas’ beste Freundin, und ihre Partnerin, die in dieser Dauer-Unsicherheit wenigstens Halt geben.
