00:00I think that what made it so popular right across the world had a lot to do with this woman.
00:16So many young women looked at Andy and her dilemma of finding...
00:26I would have said this even if I had gone first. I think it's you.
00:32I think it's the same. It's because of Mary.
00:38How could it not be? How could we not all fall in love with the greatest actress of all time
00:44playing this iconic character with these unbelievable lines looking so beautiful and wearing those brilliant costumes and to see the
00:53way you would approach this character.
00:56The two of you are curious about is that our daughter was 8 years ago to Korea.
01:01Mary Strip is the first Korean character in Korea.
01:04Can you tell us about your story about Korea?
01:11Mary?
01:13Oh, it's wonderful to be in Seoul. My gosh. It's just beautiful.
01:19We spent the day doing press in a beautiful hotel but my family got to go out and sightsee and
01:25they reported back that they just had the most wonderful time.
01:28The food was incredible. The art was incredible. The whole experience. And so we just had the loveliest, loveliest stuff.
01:35And now this. Now receiving all of this love and getting to share this with you is just so special.
01:41Thank you so much.
01:42We're here with you. Thank you for coming out tonight.
01:45We love you. Especially the ones who stayed overnight.
01:53We love you. Especially the ones who stayed overnight.
01:57We love you.
02:00Well, I'm very interested in Korean barbecue.
02:04Because I live part of the time in Los Angeles and we go to a place in Downey which is
02:13near a hockey rink where my son used to play.
02:15We have Korean barbecue and I'm very into it.
02:21Yeah, I think if I were... I completely agree with everything you said about what comes to us in the
02:29press in the United States is youth culture.
02:33I have six grandchildren. They all know every word of K-pop demon hunter.
02:39The messages that you thought of wanting to convey with the second film?
02:47I don't want to be in any way disrespectful of the question because I respect your interest in that idea.
02:58But I am so loath to put out the idea like a chyron at the bottom of the television screen
03:07that says this is the message of the movie.
03:10We love the devil wears Prada too.
03:12We love the devil wears Prada too.
03:15I think that everyone will take their own message from it.
03:21You know, and I do recognize that young women especially took some courage from Andy's story in the first film.
03:34Well, you followed your dream and congratulations on being a journalist.
03:39I agree with you. You know, I think that the world is changing. I think there's a lot more freedom
03:48available. It's not easy. You gotta fight for it. You gotta work for it.
03:52And I think that economic freedom is something that I really wish for every type of person, especially people that
04:01have historically been denied access to it.
04:04But in terms of how it manifests itself in this film, Andy Sachs has paid for every bill that's come
04:15her way her entire adult life.
04:17You know, I think that her attitude about all that stuff is, if the right person comes along, wouldn't that
04:24be fun?
04:25Thank you for this warm welcome. And we're here to promote a film we love very much. And so I'm
04:32happy that the first time I come here, it's with something that I'm proud of.
04:40It's so exciting to be here, but I have to admit it's also bittersweet because being here is so special
04:48and I wish we were here for longer so I could do some of the things that I really want
04:52to do, like go to the Starlink Library, which has been on my bucket list for so long.
04:57So, for me, it's such a gift to be here, but it feels close, but I can't quite get it.
05:05But maybe if we do a good job here, we'll have time and I can run out and do it.
05:08I think, first of all, I agree with everything that Meryl just said, and you can't overestimate just the effect
05:16the digital revolution has had on all aspects of our lives, but in particular when it comes to journalism and
05:22fashion journalism.
05:24Looking at it from a character point of view, you know, Andy Sachs is 22 in the first film, she's
05:30just graduated from college, so she's full of ideas, but a little light on life experience.
05:37And in this film, she's had 20 years to go out and live the life that she's wanted to live
05:44to the best of her ability. And so I think that she's acquired skills, she's acquired a point of view,
05:49she's acquired experience.
05:51Well, the film we made in 2006, I think, came out the year before the iPhone. There were no iPhones.
06:03I mean, that thing that you all have in your pockets, or whatever brand you carry, has changed everything.
06:13It's changed everything in publishing, it's changed everything in our business. And so our business has become atomized, and we're
06:25all sort of in a shifting landscape of how to maintain.
06:31The areas, in particular music, and in particular, I think a lot of fashion, skin care. So I think those
06:44areas of interests that are very interesting to people, of course, Korea is so much richer than those particular subjects,
06:51but if I was a features editor, and I wanted to appeal to a lot of readers, I would probably
06:56focus on...
06:59Hi everybody, I'm going to see you.
07:03You may be changing in building in the beta Club.
07:04Ah, oh, oh.
07:06Uh, I'm going to go on and say hello about how to learn the other kids.
07:13I got a lot of magic and don't forget, so I'm going to open a uptree.
07:22And so the public news is very unfortunate.
07:24Yeah, and I thought there was, I got a lot of confused people about it before our story, we could
07:27be coming together, but we could be future kids about their teacher, Rightly.
07:28Oh, yeah.
07:28Very, very clearly on our husbands, we're catching the letters from why we're hearing.
07:30Here on stage
