Rural Northern England, early 1970s. Richard, Juliette, and their kid Owen are living on a farmhouse that came with family history and zero emotional stability. At first it’s the kind of quiet that makes you notice everything. Owen then starts acting wrong in a very specific way. He talks about a whistling boy. Everyone else? Crickets. No voices. No sightings. Just Owen insisting there’s something there, and reality quietly losing the argument. So Richard does what any reasonable person would do. He digs into the region’s mythology, hoping knowledge will act like a protective charm. Instead, he finds something unsettling enough to be both a way out and a bigger problem. Starve Acre is basically panic with folklore seasoning, and it commits hard enough to make the dread feel earned.

Nordengland, frühe 70er. Richard, Juliette und ihr Sohn Owen wohnen auf einem Bauernhof, der durch ein ziemlich langes Erbe-Chaos in der Familie gelandet ist. Erst wirkt alles wie beschauliches Landleben mit zu viel Wind im Ohr. Dann fängt Owen an, sich komplett daneben zu benehmen. Und zwar so sehr, dass er von einem pfeifenden Jungen erzählt. Problem: Niemand sonst bekommt davon was mit. Spoiler: Das wird nicht einfach „Kinderphantasie“. Richard fängt an, tiefer in die lokalen Mythen abzutauchen, in der Hoffnung, Kontrolle zurückzukriegen. Statt Antworten bekommt er etwas, das gleichzeitig wie Rettung und wie Verdammnis riecht. Wenn du gern Filme schaust, in denen Nachbarn schweigen, das Haus knistert und Logik langsam auszieht, ist das dein Ding.
