Did Pete Hegseth mislead the public with his explosive claim that Iran “begged” for a ceasefire? Speaking after the intense US–Iran conflict, Hegseth projected a decisive American victory—but emerging reports and analysts suggest a far more complex reality.

While the U.S. touted massive damage to Iran’s military infrastructure and pushed the narrative of dominance, critics and officials have raised doubts, pointing to continued Iranian capabilities and battlefield incidents that challenge the “crushed” narrative.

00:00To the precision campaign that obliterated Iran's nuclear sites in Operation Midnight Hammer,
00:04to the decisive military victory we just achieved in Operation Epic Fury.
00:09Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield.
00:16Iran has been a threat to the United States and the free world for 47 years.
00:22Chance of death to America, targeting our people, killing Americans,
00:26lying and blackmailing their way toward a nuclear weapon, so they thought.
00:32No longer. Not on our watch.
00:36Other presidents marked time and kicked the can down the road.
00:40President Trump made history.
00:43From the strike that took out Qasem Soleimani,
00:47to tearing up the disastrous Obama-Iran deal,
00:50to the precision campaign that obliterated Iran's nuclear sites in Operation Midnight Hammer,
00:55to the decisive military victory we just achieved in Operation Epic Fury.
01:01No other president has shown the courage and resolve of this commander-in-chief.
01:07President Trump forged this moment.
01:10Iran begged for this ceasefire, and we all know it.
01:14As a president truth this morning, a big day for world peace.
01:20Iran wants it to happen.
01:21They've had enough.
01:23Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield.
01:31A capital V military victory.
01:36By any measure, Epic Fury decimated Iran's military
01:40and rendered it combat ineffective for years to come.
01:44You see, in less than 40 days, one of our combatant commands, Central Command, CENTCOM,
01:52using less than 10% of America's total combat power,
01:56dismantled one of the world's largest militaries.
01:59The world's leading state sponsor of terrorism proved utterly incapable
02:04of defending itself, its people, or its territory.
02:09We untied just a fraction of our strength, and Iran suffered a devastating military defeat.
02:17Together with our Israeli partners, America's military achieved every single objective,
02:23on plan, on schedule, exactly as laid out from day one.
02:28Iran's Navy is at the bottom of the sea.
02:31Whether it's the Soleimani class, their frigate class, their prized drone aircraft carriers, submarines, mine layers, sunk.
02:41Iran's air force has been wiped out.
02:44Iran no longer has an air defense, any sort of a comprehensive air defense system.
02:49We own their skies.
02:52Their missile program is functionally destroyed.
02:55Launchers, production facilities, and existing stockpiles depleted and decimated.
03:01And almost completely ineffective, Iran shot hundreds and hundreds of missiles and attack,
03:07one-way attack drones, at our aircraft carrier.
03:09They were obsessed with it, and they never got even close.
03:14Every single one of those shots easily shot down miles and miles away from the Abe Lincoln.
03:21They were blowing ammo into fantasy land.
03:25Contrast that with most significantly, in last night's wave of more than 800 strikes,
03:32we finished completely destroying Iran's defense industrial base.
03:38A core pillar of our mission objective.
03:41What little they have left, buried in bunkers, is all they will have.
03:47They can still shoot, we know that.
03:49Their command and control is so decimated, they can't really talk and coordinate.
03:53So they still may shoot here and there, but that would be very, very unwise.
03:58But they can no longer build missiles, build rockets, build launchers, or build UAVs.
04:05Their factories have been razed to the ground, set back in historic fashion.
04:12You see, had Iran refused our terms, the next targets would have been their power plants,
04:18their bridges, and oil and energy infrastructure.
04:22Targets they could not defend and could not realistically rebuild.
04:26It would have taken them decades, and we were locked and loaded.
04:31They couldn't defend against it.
