Short filmTranscript
00:00Previously on Making Canada's Team, we were introduced to all eight of our athletes pursuing
00:10Olympic or Paralympic glory. We're in the Hoggy Canada jersey with our last team in the backwoods
00:16league. We'll lead literally the world to me. I'm dominating but not in the conventional way.
00:25To me, domination is not just about results. To me, dominating is just putting my stamp on the
00:32sport and I'm not the only one doing it and we're doing it as a team also. So I think that's just
00:37great. Johans, everything gets a lot faster, everything gets a lot heavier. So he's got to
00:41be able to just survive and hold on. We're trying to keep it as consistent as possible. You know,
00:45my every day, if I can show up, put in the work, walk away, return tomorrow and try and elevate but
00:50stay consistent. That's the key at this point. Natalie Spooner and the Scepters lost a critical
00:55final game of the PWHL season. I had totally blown up my ACL. I would love to say that like,
01:04you know, I'm back and I feel that good but I think that maybe people thought I'd be able to
01:10step right back into that role but at the same time, like I've, you know, I've been through a
01:13major surgery. And Mikel Kingsbury missed out on his 100th world championship. Went away from 100.
01:20I'm not thinking about it. I didn't think about it all day. A little bit in the last
01:24gondola ride because I was like, ah, you're there. Like, don't mess up the last one. But
01:30yeah, I'm not thinking about it.
01:32The Olympics and Paralympics are more than competitions. They're a pulse, a rhythm that draws people
01:52together. Moving in concert, layered, harmonized, not across keys and octaves, but across countries,
02:06across time, across relationships.
02:22Strong relationships are the truest measure of success. And over each four-year Olympic and
02:34Paralympic cycle, the strength and depth of those bonds is tested and tested and tested again.
02:48Important as they are, those connections are in the background.
02:52Semi-tones beneath the melody.
02:56Is your mom the best hockey player?
02:58Family, friends, mentors, some visible, many unseen. They are the load-bearing cords.
03:09The strength that keeps the composition upright when the chaos of a live performance threatens to
03:16collapse it.
03:16Every champion's journey is scored by the rhythm of family. They are the metronome. Steady, certain.
03:28Their voices, sometimes quiet as a lullaby, sometimes bold as fanfare.
03:34Create the chorus that carries the athlete from first rehearsals to final spotlight.
03:47Preferably, atop a podium.
03:49Sometimes, being an athlete isn't as glamorous as it seems. And if you're Will D'Ingenue, it means you have to pick up some ingredients on the way home for lunch so you can cook with your roommate.
04:10And when your roommate is another short track stirrer, with a packed schedule, it's best not to be late.
04:19Hi, Victoria. It's the reason that we live together. It's like he says that for me.
04:24It's something to be stressed, and he does a lot, and I love it. Even if I don't call him, he will text me. It just makes me reset because he has more experience than me, and he can calm me. It's really nice.
04:39After lunch, Will does what he does every day. Training at the Olympic Park. Guided by his support staff, making sure his strength stays at its peak.
04:50Do you have a set of warm-up, or...?
04:52Yes, I have a set of warm-up, or...?
04:55We have an idea. When I arrive and I see the trainer program, he can smile, it's a little bit of a smile.
05:00All right, let's go.
05:02Up. Nice.
05:04Attention, up. Up.
05:05Come on!
05:06Come on!
05:09What's I got on with, Mark?
05:10Is this what...?
05:11It's there.
05:12There, there.
05:13Yeah, there.
05:14Up.
05:15Up.
05:16Come on.
05:17Come on, come on.
05:18It's getting straight.
05:20Oh-oh.
05:22Aye, big boy.
05:29Up, up, up, up, up!
05:32Come on, push it, push it!
05:34Fuck, fuck, fuck.
05:36Come on, hop hop hop hop hop hop!
05:48Good job!
05:50Good job Willie.
05:59That's why we work, it's why we work,
06:01so we work for the bad and we don't have bad luck.
06:04it's this exact type of effort that gives all our athletes their best chance of meeting the moment
06:14moments like the pwhl playoffs opening in toronto a stage where heartbreak still lingers
06:24the season previous minnesota and first overall pick taylor heise eliminated the scepters from
06:30the playoffs while natalie spooner could only watch from the sidelines injured now both stars are back
06:39healthy hungry and ready for the rematch rowdy crowd cheering on this board battle where you
06:48blair comes out in comes turnbull she scores toronto with the first goal of the pwhl playoffs
06:57the mood is electric as toronto takes game one at home but game two arrives with bad intentions here we
07:21go super quick wall the politeness gone replaced with hostility
07:26body her body her nat
07:38the door is shut by gamble and we're getting into it
07:52the door is shut by gamble and we're getting into it
08:04everyone winning
08:06uh decent and all
08:08you want to click it
08:09went to like round for like something that's going to be like catch mock guard because they've been sitting for a little bit
08:13and they're getting into it
08:14i think that won't be a little bit
08:15there for the money
08:16yeah
08:16yeah
08:17yeah
08:18yeah
08:21yeah
08:29yeah
08:31yeah
08:33yeah
08:38yeah
08:39yeah
08:40yeah
08:41yeah
08:42They got one.
08:56Natalie Spooner and the Scepters head to Minnesota for games three and four
09:00with the series locked at one game apiece.
09:03The next victory means precious momentum for one side
09:06and the pressure of survival for the other.
09:09The Rova to Liz Shepers.
09:12She scores!
09:16A chip.
09:17Darrow Watts.
09:19Izy feeds it to Steckline.
09:21She scores.
09:24They down, down it.
09:25They score.
09:27Did you think you'd say it that many times?
09:30Space, the one-timer from Jake's.
09:32It pops up and they put it away.
09:34The Frost, a dominant game three win.
09:39Highest scoring game in PWHL history.
09:44Game four in the state of hockey.
09:47Must win with the Toronto Scepters.
09:50Spooner getting to work below the goal line once more.
09:53Miller rips and scores!
09:56Game four heads to overtime.
09:58Toronto, this is their chance to stay alive.
10:01Trying to keep Minnesota to the outside.
10:03Taylor Heise with the shot.
10:04She scores!
10:08Minnesota Magic in overtime.
10:12The reigning Walter Cup champions are heading back to the PWHL finals.
10:18People have asked me this, like, what they thought I was, like, kind of playing at.
10:33And, to be honest, I probably started off, like, 50%, 650, 60%.
10:39But, like, probably by the end, I felt about 70% of myself.
10:41I think, like, mentally, probably, like, just not the same amount of confidence in my body to, like, be strong enough getting into battles and stuff.
10:51And I think, like, probably watching people probably tell I was a little bit hesitant.
10:55You know, not just, like, driving through people as I normally would, but kind of, you know, avoiding a hit to make sure my legs were still attached.
11:04Right now, if you were to look at my legs, you'd probably be like, wow, you have no left quad muscle.
11:11Like, where did your leg go?
11:13Whereas I'm hoping by the end of summer, my legs are a little more even.
11:17My teammates would have loved for me to come back and just been my same self.
11:21But I think that's a little unrealistic in a sense.
11:25Like, this whole season was really a rehab season.
11:28Like, Emily Clark, I was out of practice and I was, like, so frustrated.
11:33She was like, you've got to give yourself grace.
11:35Like, you know, you're just coming back.
11:37Like, it's part of the process.
11:38I think it's just, like, realizing that it's going to take those game minutes, take that time on ice to just feel good and confident again.
11:47Yeah, there's a lot of fears.
11:49Fear of failing, like, fear of not feeling good, not feeling like I can get there.
11:54Fear of not making the team, stakes are high.
11:59I obviously want to make the Olympic team, that's the goal.
12:03But I think, you know, I just need to focus on one day at a time getting back to where I want to be.
12:10For Natalie, this off-season isn't rest.
12:14It's redemption.
12:15The Olympics don't wait.
12:18The clock never stops.
12:19And before the torch is lit, Natalie must rebuild both her strength and her confidence and prove she's ready when the world is watching.
12:32While Natalie's fortunes on the ice don't pan out this time, Raphael is looking for insight into her own with a group of friends.
12:40I'm very lucky to have this in my life, that a group of friends, no matter where I'm going to end up, they're always going to be there.
12:50And that just means the world to me.
12:53It's, like, scary to know what's going to happen soon or not.
12:56But it's exciting to get to know yourself a bit more.
13:00I can't think of anything.
13:01I don't want to ask those big questions, like, am I going to make it the perfect game?
13:05I don't know, maybe some stuff about my love life and big question, like, that, I guess.
13:12The group is meeting with a psychic medium to shed some light on the road ahead.
13:17What?
13:18Mmm.
13:18Excellent.
13:19It's fun to record.
13:21Because it's a lot of info.
13:23Okay.
13:24Perfect.
13:26It's a little bit, a little bit.
13:28A little bit, but you're very emotive.
13:33Mmm.
13:34Very.
13:35Emotive.
13:37Okay.
13:39Okay, c'est quelque chose que tu veux faire depuis longtemps, okay?
13:43Et, ici, comme je disais, ça va aller plus vite que...
13:46Tenez, Roger, go for it.
13:49Ça va bien aller.
13:52Puis arrête de mettre la pression.
13:54Mets beaucoup de pression.
13:56Lâche-prise, ça va bien aller.
14:01Voilà , merci beaucoup.
14:03Merci.
14:03Although the reading checks out at first glance, Raphael needs a second opinion.
14:09Yeah, it was pretty accurate, I think.
14:11Yeah.
14:12It does check out, and actually check out what she told me, so that's a good sign.
14:16It's a good sign.
14:17Mmm.
14:17Mmm.
14:18We'll see in the future, but yeah.
14:20So, apparently I have a high ability to feel stuff through me, and my feeling is always
14:28very good.
14:29You two?
14:30Family thing, I guess.
14:31I'm one of the 15th person of people around the world that has good values.
14:38Justice is very important to me, which is definitely true.
14:42I don't mind doing a lot of sacrifice.
14:45I'm born to be a boss and a leader.
14:48Mm-hmm.
14:49I'm going to have some great news around October and January.
14:54I'm probably going to get an answer of something.
14:56So, yeah.
14:59Let's leave it there.
15:01Let's leave it there.
15:04Yeah.
15:04On the heels of the World Cup loss in Lovigno, Mikel is back home in Saint-Sever, Quebec.
15:15Being an athlete is a life full of arduous workouts, heart-stopping competition, and regimented
15:21routines.
15:22But rest is just as important for the body and mind to stay sharp.
15:26One, two, one, go.
15:29Mikel takes this opportunity to volunteer at a kid's ski camp to inspire the next
15:34generation of moguls skiers.
15:36We're going to be better than him.
15:38We're going to be better than him?
15:40Yeah.
15:40Yeah.
15:43You're perfect.
15:44You're right, you're atterri.
15:46Have you been atterri?
15:47I said I'm really good.
15:49For nothing?
15:50No.
15:50Voilà .
15:51It's not me who...
15:53You know, if I can make a mini difference in their career, I find it super cool.
15:58Yeah, and I bring my best friends.
16:01And the most of them have all the podiums in the Coupe du Monde.
16:06There's a good gang of my coaches who are Olympians.
16:10There's a lot of history with our sport in Quebec.
16:13Yeah.
16:14And all the best are here in the camp.
16:16That rich Quebec ski history is woven into the culture.
16:21Eighty percent of Quebecers live less than an hour away from a ski center.
16:26Most of the mountains are smaller, so there's a lot of repetition.
16:30Perfect for moguls and freestyle.
16:33Freestyle was a demonstration sport at the Calgary Olympics in 1988.
16:37In 1994 Lillehammer, Quebec's Jean-Luc Broussard wins moguls gold.
16:43He's just flying through the bottom section with great turns.
16:46I think Jean-Luc has a plane to catch.
16:48Wow.
16:49I don't think he's ever skied faster than that.
16:51The next generation takes over with Jen Heil.
16:54A backlift.
16:56Brenda, look at that time.
16:58Whoa.
16:58That is the run he's been dreaming of.
17:06The DeFore-Lapoint sisters.
17:09This is where she'll make it or break it.
17:11It's a gold medal for Justine DeFore-Lapoint and a silver medal for her sister Chloe.
17:16So aggressive.
17:18And then ultimately, Mikael.
17:20Mikael Kingsbury wins gold for Canada.
17:24Giving back feels good.
17:26But spring.
17:29Spring belongs to baseball.
17:31From the mountain range to the baseball diamond, Mikael refuses to sit still.
17:37He joins the Capadelle de Quebec at one of the biggest games of the season
17:41to throw the first pitch and connect with the community.
17:49So try to dig into the seams here.
17:53And then when you release it, you're almost going to go like this.
17:56Yeah.
17:56But do you use your wrist or no?
17:58A little bit.
17:59Stay close though.
18:00It might be ugly.
18:02Oh my God.
18:03It moves so much.
18:05Okay.
18:06So.
18:07It's much more fun to throw in a softball.
18:09After a quick warm-up with the team, the stands are getting packed and spectators are fired
18:16up with anticipation.
18:17For him, it's really, really wow to come to the state canaxe.
18:22It's like a dream of a child.
18:23If it makes him happy, for us, we'll be able to get him as soon as possible.
18:27So for me, it's a model for the baseball community, for the young people who visit the
18:33centers on the roster.
18:43Turns out, the king of moguls has a decent fastball.
18:48finally some peace after the game Mikhail sticks around to sign autographs and hang out with fans
19:18the game is back hey Canada Cabbie Richards here thrilled to be your host this year's edition of the game the nightly trivia game

20:34time off the track doesn't come often
20:48but when it does Johan spends it with his grandfather
20:54to give her the keys
20:57today we're here in cochrane for the car show that they have annually here with my grandpa who's taken out his 1957 thunderbird I have a hard time getting in this thing with the top on Johan it's really quite comical watching him get into the thing
21:15as you became a teenager we started doing a summer road trip we would just pick somewhere to go for a week or two and then drive
21:25my grandparents play a key role in like making all of what I do possible
21:30there's been a few times where sport gets expensive or really difficult and they're there to look out for me
21:37and support me through this patina is that what it's called look like you're in better condition than this is
21:43I kind of hope so
21:44moments like these are rare most days Johan juggles training and two jobs one of which takes him to the racetrack where he swaps his bobsled for a camera
21:56Johan has picked up a freelance gig with his friend Jackson a photographer who brings him along to help out at the racetrack
22:05and then there'll be a hard right hand and that's like a dip in so we'll have to take a little hike
22:10all right but always down for the water yeah being constantly on the move leaves little time to connect
22:16today is a rare opportunity for Johan to catch up with an old friend man didn't you say last time we
22:23talked about this you were saying like it's not a steering wheel in there it's just like you're pulling
22:27a string or something yeah like yeah there's a string that comes forward and then you're sat right there and
22:32you pull on one side this tower will go back and it pulls that that way Loki on the two-man sled
22:38the two-man sled the breaking hole is there so it's like you get a little like see you see the
22:42ice just going it's going like just like that like you know you're like 10 feet off the ground
22:48horizontal going 120 and you're like this it's just not natural bro dude that yeah it must be a thrill
22:57though yeah that's why it's like you know you know me man you know it's like that as Jackson absorbs
23:02the intensity of Johan's bobsledding life their conversation turns to an even tougher truth Johan
23:09has to work two jobs because Olympic training doesn't pay the bills you can't just be a full-time
23:15athlete right like yeah to do other things that because yeah I feel like the resilience is something
23:19that like you got to have and I feel like no matter like how hard times have gotten like here and there
23:24like I've always been like I'm gonna continue yeah I don't know how you do it but while Johan keeps
23:31pushing those close to him start to worry my grandma even asked me the other day like are you happy with
23:37the path you chose part of worries me is how he handles the mental side of things probably never
23:42realized how much time and effort that goes into it I think the hard part for them is that they see
23:50kind of what it does to me like as far as just being like completely crushed at the end of the day
23:54everyone pay attention I don't feel super social I don't feel super outgoing season starts pretty
24:00soon here thank you and if that's the cost and I'm willing to accept that cost it always impresses me
24:09it makes me extremely proud never get used to that feeling it's not like that I'm sad or anything like
24:16it's just hard underneath the highlights and performances Kala and Sierra are just people in
24:29their early 20s here in Toronto they take a breath and hang out before a huge press day oh yeah getting
24:40ready for Italy my sorbet oh Sarah's my guide for the people that might not know what a guide is I'm
24:47visually impaired Sierra is essentially my eyes when it comes to ski racing everything that I can't see
24:53she tells me about how exactly do you ski with a guide a para-alpine team communicates with headsets
25:02built into their helmets Sierra is always one step ahead and provides Kala with instructions about
25:08navigating the hill a team like this needs to be tight the bond between guide and athlete is
25:15extremely important trust built on and off the snow I met Sierra I was first started ski racing just
25:24after I started losing my vision back in 2021 and at the time I was skiing without a guide this kind of
25:32sending it solo just lost just super lost first time I met Kala I was like oh this guy's awesome like
25:38we were just like immediately really close friends but how close exactly we don't cross the line and try
25:48and mix them too much like obviously we are dating we are athlete guide but try not to get it too blended
25:54um that things get messy I mean I feel like people know but it's not talked about I think it was like
26:01just acting and like this is a normal day but you know we're not like all PDA and stuff it in a
26:08professional setting nor are we those people so just keeping a professional like it's our job and
26:13knowing that we're going in there and talking about what we have to talk about and yeah not being weird about
26:18it what I love most about Kala honestly probably his patience and he like throws me so much for this
26:26because I can't say I'm the most patient person but this guy has so much patience for me um and I
26:32should probably reciprocate it a bit more but that's definitely what I love most about him one of the
26:37benefits of dating your guide is that work trips can have romantic outings there's nothing more romantic
26:43than you know ice cream at sunset downtown Toronto next to the Hooters did you see that over there
26:56after taking in the beautiful sights downtown Toronto has to offer Kala and Sierra have a jam-packed press
27:03day full of interviews and photo shoots their success on and off the hill seems fueled by the same thing I
27:11think the trust in one another trust in communication like right from the get-go we clicked really
27:19quickly the trust came really naturally between us that guy was super cool so yeah very very close I
27:27mean best friends so it makes it really enjoyable CPC summits are a new experience for Kala and Sierra
27:34their first press day as a team but for mark all of the lights and cameras are routine we're gonna go
27:42through a whole day of sharing my story and different ideas and just trying to get everyone a sense of who
27:48I am mark start your movement bear in mind anyone who's watched the last four Paralympics knows
27:57exactly who mark is your favorite cheat day meal oh I eat cheat day meals every day because I'm trying
28:02to gain weight tagliatelle is a little thinner than spaghetti I believe what's your favorite uh that was weird
28:14hey while Kala Sierra and mark wind down a long day at the CPC summit another athlete is well on their
28:22path to recovery media is undeniably a core segment of an athlete's schedule equal in prominence is
28:30maintenance and nobody has had a larger slate of schedule repairs than Natalie Spooner the work has
28:37been done here at the elite performance and injury center here hockey Canada and the scepters have
28:50designed her workout and rehab routine to accelerate her progress back to the Olympic level
28:56yeah I have a knee again I have a muscle again so it's like from where I was at the end of the season
29:16to now it's like night and day Natalie's gym is conveniently built into the Kamoka Center home to an NHL
29:30sized ice surface and a few old friends who can pop by for moral support I was unique healing it's good
29:37now you're hip no no no it's hip too didn't you no well never mind but were you like every time I turned
29:42on the TV or like scoring winning goals last year I mean you can't dominate the league every year they
29:48catch up to you every once in a while well she's come a long way we had nine months and we started
29:55back from recovery with baby steps public skating and worked our way up you gotta go pick it up she
30:02wasn't allowed to do it in the gym we could not do it on the ice so that is why it is such an amazing
30:07story for so many young girls coming out you're big enough you're strong enough to mix up your
30:13skating patterns she has the fight and with that fight she will get back she's almost there now and
30:19everyone's behind her excellent better every time Natalie's high performance athlete life filled with
30:30workouts and therapies and private on-ice sessions actually mirrors that of a traditional nine-to-five
30:36she's been at work all day you're not gonna help mommy bring in her hockey stuff and now on the way
30:42home picks up her son from daycare her second career as mom and wife begins probably the most difficult
30:50was really just starting a new phase so everything was new and getting my body used to all the new
30:56movements really I guess it's like equally as exciting as it is hard I see like a light at the end of the
31:01tunnel in a sense I guess like I see it getting better which is a great feeling to feel like okay
31:06I can I can do this like I'm getting there Natalie's focus is very much on herself as much as any mother
31:13and partners can be her husband Adam Redmond manages to see the bigger picture of the time put in the
31:19sacrifices made we both know that there's a finite amount of time to be a professional athlete it's
31:26important to have goals and be driven and have a passion and the reason to get out of bed in the
31:30morning and I want him to understand the value of pursuing your dreams and hard work and resilience
31:37and and all those things that I mean she's really demonstrated the last well three years of his
31:43life right where I really get caught up is you know when Roy's sitting in next to me at a game
31:49and he's glued right in and he sees his mom walk out the tunnel and onto the ice and people cheer for
31:57her and that's pretty special and that's really when it hits I don't want to call it her last go
32:02around but I mean inevitably it likely could be to share that experience with him and watch his mom
32:09at the highest level uh potentially for the last time I think it'll be pretty memorable and special and
32:15uh just something we'll be able to look back on forever
32:19we have Olympic training blocks coming up um and they're gonna be huge for me I think just to
32:26continue my training but also get to you know play and practice with the best in the world so um I think
32:32that's really going to be the way that I'm going to get back you know to where I want to be is being
32:37able to train every day with them and um get that speed back because I'm gonna have to play at that speed
32:41every day so I think it will come back a lot quicker because of these training blocks which
32:45will be great speed is critical in the game but right now after this day and these weeks Natalie
32:53can enjoy slowing down for an evening
32:57cbc's the game is back answer trivia questions for a chance to win one of four all-inclusive beach

33:21at practice with the women's team rafael pushes a bit too hard
33:39and re-aggravates a shoulder injury the injury is a thorn in her side as she navigates these crucial few
33:47months but with support staff on-site physiotherapy and restorative workouts rafael is cautiously
33:55optimistic about the road ahead
33:57so the reason why i'm doing pre-ab and mobility for my shoulder is because i injured myself during a
34:10practice
34:14so basically i have an ac sprain injury so my clavicle pop out and all my ligaments are torn around it
34:20they told me it will be around eight to twelve weeks to be fully like to fully recover from that
34:30injury everything happened for a reason literally in life like i had cancer and now i'm being like i'm
34:37professional athlete i play for canada i travel the world so i think that's the mindset that i'm
34:42trying to have with this injury after a quick workout rafael heads to her physiotherapist
34:48and hopes for some good news the news that i'm expecting today is probably the okay to
34:54go practice on the ice again i'm not talking about like full contact
34:59game but more like going to the ice see how it feels
35:05like that at the gym it went super well
35:07yeah for real i'm really happy that i've never had a record that i was really satisfied
35:14right now she'll be at the canadian championship and then maybe who knows maybe i would have been
35:22at the world championship next week with the men's team while rafael focuses on recovery the men's team
35:30prepares to head to the world championship in buffalo playing with them would have been a huge step
35:36towards the paralympic dream but for now her goal is just getting back on the ice
35:41with the official okay from her physiotherapist
36:03rafael takes to the ice with a renewed spirit yeah i don't know it's it's so peaceful i kind of like it
36:21i was really looking forward to it the ice this afternoon um like you never know what to expect and
36:27to know that my shoulder is doing well now um i can now build on that and go back home and train and
36:35i can get excited for worlds and like i'm convinced now that i will be back to my full potential back
36:42like until then so i'm very excited it's very nice
36:51setbacks are inevitable for all high performance athletes while rafael will miss the para hockey
36:57world championship in buffalo she's making the best of her situation like she has her entire life
37:07pushing through is critical whether it's a bad shoulder or a bum foot well i can't feel the
37:14underside of my big toe so my physio is gonna take a look at it when did you start feeling this
37:20the day after i saw you last what testing do you have today strength and power which involves what
37:26lots of lots of jumping i was gonna say like are you force plate jumping all day recovery is just
37:33one part of the process next up baseline testing a data-driven check that shows what's working and
37:40what still needs work she's trying to get warmed up do a little bit of core then we'll do uh fitness
37:46testing so at least one day of the year at baseline testing alex has run through a series of drills
37:54spotting hall this gives a snapshot of where alex stands now and how she compares to last season
38:01top three two two one push push push push push good good i'm walking
38:14after a day of data and drills it's time to unwind at home alex's parents host their annual barbecue
38:35a tradition that brings the whole ski jumping team together anyone who has participated in the fry
38:42gets a special cards and they join the brotherhood of the fry cheers to that
38:49all our coaches are from europe so we're gonna give them a little taste of canadiana
38:54typically she gets two times a year when she gets to come home so it's extra special for us
38:59this time she's here with all her teammates and all the coaching staff and all the parents are going to
39:05come over hallelujah in the middle of all the laughter and noise alex and her mom find a quiet
39:15moment and realize just how much they've missed each other it's nice to be able to get together
39:21you know it really only happens once a year when the coaches come into town
39:24we cry a lot whether we're happy we're sad or angry mom and i cry alexandria lute sometimes you feel
39:34like you've given up your child for the sport right she left when she was 15. she needs a good one here
39:41i've always felt like she's doing what she wants here we can cry she's got a good one wow that's a great
39:48one for alexandria but getting to go and watch her compete and watch all the successes she's had and
39:55is fulfilling as a parent see your kids winning or not winning which she doesn't like that part
40:04i like to win yeah
40:05will dangenou lives most of his life in the fast lane from daily workouts to physio from a buzzing
40:31social calendar to constant travel abroad and that's where his parents step in reminding him
40:37to stop and smell the flowers before returning to a busy life
40:41like we have a very healthy relationship where we make each other better and that's that's well said
41:10yeah
41:20last course there's no future
41:22i'll do a lot of activities and they lead to sleep so that's what they love
41:29at that
41:33when we speak about distance also understand the how that is thatャons are evolving
41:37So to be present to make corrections if necessary, but also to be present and to enjoy the present moment and to be remembered with the souvenirs.
41:51That was one of my first competition.
41:53That's right.
41:54That's my first competition. I remember because I had a bronze medal.
41:59I was a little happy.
42:01I was never happy to have a bronze medal.
42:04I don't know what it is.
42:07Does it tell you something?
42:08Yes.
42:09That's what it is.
42:11It's a Saint-Michel.
42:14Yeah.
42:15It's okay?
42:17Just...
42:21What do you think about it?
42:23Well, I can't believe it.
42:29I'm just a lot of emotions.
42:33Ah!
42:34It's worst, but it's hard to see it.
42:38It's beautiful, but it's hard to see everything.
42:40It's hard to see.
42:41It's my memory that I had completely forgotten.
42:43that I could never forget.
42:48There's been things difficult, like all the others.
42:50I imagine all the families who live in separation,
42:53where the children are in a situation of shared guard.
42:57And it's hard for a child.
43:01When we separated, his father and I,
43:04he told me, in the auto,
43:06what do you mean when parents are separated,
43:09is that we become orphans?
43:11So, I think it's that it's that it's that we will always be there for you.
43:20In this period, yes, there were high and low,
43:24but the memories are positive.
43:27You chose your first lap lap lap.
43:29Ah, yes, I remember this moment.
43:31Wow!
43:33That's hysterical.
43:35For me, it's always been a liberator, the father.
43:38And then, I don't think about it in terms of life after that,
43:44but it's like a person for me,
43:48like a friend, almost like a friend.
43:51That's why when I talk about passion,
43:54it's not just at a superficial level,
43:56it's really deep for me.
43:58And I like sports a lot.
44:00So, it's true.
44:02I love sports for my heart,
44:05and I'm very privileged that my parents have allowed me to participate.
44:09So, yeah, that's it.
44:11Will's parents have been a steady metronome of love and support for a lifetime.
44:19A perpetual meter marking time with the inspiration and support that's allowed Will to reach this precipice.
44:26The tempo quickens now, and behind every crescendo of effort stands a chorus of parents, partners, coaches, and friends.
44:40They steady the tempo when the world feels offbeat.
44:44Papa, a little American.
44:49Papa, she's lying in my bacon.
44:57In this final stretch, success will depend not just on strength or speed, but on harmony,
45:05the delicate balance of body, mind, and the unwavering support of those who make the music possible.
45:27In this final stretch, success will depend not just on strength or speed in the music possible.
45:45Here we go.
45:48I love soccer.
45:52Wait, what can you say?
45:56You don't have to be stressed.
45:58Yeah, it's okay.
46:03But the balance is that?
46:05Especially with one ball?
46:06No, no.
46:07After you gave me a shot...
