Transcript
00:00:00After days of floodin' from the north, the bayou's water is fallin' fast.
00:00:22And as the waters retreat, new troubles start to rise.
00:00:35Those floods just brought a bunch of bulls in here, and they're all claiming territory.
00:00:40I just wanna take out males. We're gonna release the females. From the boat?
00:00:45From the boat.
00:00:46Now, with the gators on the move and boats scrapin' bottom...
00:00:49Fishing out here today is gonna be hard with this low water.
00:00:52The hunters call on decades of experience to get the job done.
00:00:58I just wanna take out males and release the females.
00:01:01Come to hell...
00:01:03We're on fire! We're on fire!
00:01:05On low water.
00:01:06Wait, the boat's on fire? Hold on!
00:01:09Run these battles out of your life.
00:01:16All the pain through the struggle and the strife.
00:01:19Now there's just one thing you've got left to do.
00:01:22Light them ass, let it burn, and break them through.
00:01:26Like a wild horse run, you're out of control.
00:01:37Like a loaded pistol, like a raging spell.
00:01:40You've got thunder in your veins.
00:01:43You won't stop till your dying day comes your way.
00:01:51as day breaks over the bayou king of the swamp troy landry and his son jacob head out to a
00:02:08favorite honey hole trying to fill their tags before fallen water levels shut down this proven
00:02:14spot it's a really tough situation when that water falls out because a lot of places that
00:02:19you were fishing the day before you can't get to or you you just tear up the equipment trying to get
00:02:24to them lines so we like to go in there and try to knock out all the tags as much as possible and as
00:02:28quickly as possible to make sure everyone brings their a game jacob challenges troy to a father-son
00:02:35bed just to be clear biggest alligator wins today not the most but the biggest now we're gonna have
00:02:42the most in the big all right be with right right baby that's right to the biggest gator goes the
00:02:48glory and in true landry fashion the loser has a price to pay jacob and i we're hunting the place
00:02:55together and of course jacob want to have a little bet to see who can catch the biggest alligator but
00:03:01of all things if he wins he wants me to be the cashier at duffy's at the store did you watch youtube
00:03:08last night on how to work their cash register no i didn't watch youtube on how to work the cash register
00:03:14maybe a few weeks could be the cashier i'm used to the old time where we had the that's not the bet
00:03:20that's not the deal this ain't got nothing to do with me and willie that's y'all two whoever catches
00:03:24the biggest alligator wins and if he loses he has to work at duffy's behind the counter for an hour
00:03:29no pay and he has to wear a duffy's uniform so i'm really really hoping i'm praying to god that
00:03:36i catch the biggest alligator because i really think this is going to be something to see
00:03:40if we catch the biggest one you got to wash my truck learn how to run that register that's all
00:03:46i'm going to tell you okay we got to go to work we ain't got time to play good luck to y'all
00:03:50we got to win this bet willie be nice to pick up another 11 footer right here today
00:04:02yeah it would be nice look like we got some right here
00:04:07whoa whoa whoa what's that up there really
00:04:37whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
00:05:07eight and a half nine footer this nine footer is a solid start for the hunters
00:05:17but jacob knows he'll have to haul in much bigger gators if he wants to avoid washing
00:05:22troy's truck this is a state park area it has a lot of big alligators there's 13 footers that
00:05:29are swimming around so i know what what i have in the boat is not going to win the competition
00:05:33against my dad i hear mr troy just took a shot uh-oh that ain't good not as good as this motor
00:05:44must have not had his coffee this morning
00:06:03a half mile down the bayou so far troy and pickle only have two small gators in the boat
00:06:10and the king of the swamp isn't about to come in second place
00:06:15mr troy is very very proud of who he is and the image that he's built
00:06:27and so he's going to be strong through and through till the day he dies he's going to win
00:06:33regardless of what happens
00:06:36right there right there right there oh yeah he saw it with me oh we got a tree shaker pee-wee
00:06:49oh we got a tree shaker pee-wee
00:06:59bring him in

00:07:26good job
00:07:39bring him over here
00:07:41this nine-footer is a step in the right direction
00:07:45but troy knows jacob will be tough to beat
00:07:49after all he is a landry
00:07:51in the landry family
00:07:53we just go get it we make it happen
00:07:56and i think that's what separates the landry from the rest
00:08:00we are all willing to work harder than the next man
00:08:05all right
00:08:06you good up there
00:08:07yeah
00:08:07come on pee hush
00:08:09i don't want to be a cashier
00:08:11it's out of your comfort zone huh
00:08:13i don't want to embarrass myself
00:08:14but i made the bet
00:08:16and you made the boy that made the bet
00:08:19meanwhile in bayou purdue
00:08:32veteran hunter bruce mitchell and his deckhand and a rebeck are heading out on a special mission
00:08:39to help their community
00:08:40where was it
00:08:42right here
00:08:43we got to catch that gator
00:08:46so kids can come swimming
00:08:48yesterday
00:08:49what's up y'all
00:08:51the hunters were flagged down by a group of locals
00:08:53with a serious concern
00:08:55how y'all doing
00:08:56we have a big gator by the camp where we're camped out
00:08:58uh-huh
00:08:58and the kids are trying to swim
00:09:00the animals and everything
00:09:01and just wonder if y'all can come over and take a look
00:09:03maybe get him out of there
00:09:05he big
00:09:05big gator
00:09:06yeah he's pretty good
00:09:06i'd say about 10 maybe 12
00:09:08we can come over there
00:09:10i can set a few lines around in there and we'll get rid of him
00:09:13what do you think
00:09:13i'd appreciate it
00:09:14we're gonna get rid of that gator i guarantee you that
00:09:16we're gonna do our best
00:09:18away and away and away they go
00:09:21i feel like we got a responsibility to help the neighbors out
00:09:26i mean you know he's worried about his dogs
00:09:28his kids
00:09:29and uh
00:09:29you just don't want nobody to get ate down
00:09:32with six decades of gator hunting under his overalls
00:09:36bruce isn't surprised big gators are moving in as the waters fall
00:09:40when you get to high water the gators go back in the swamp
00:09:43when it's low they come out to the river
00:09:45so that's why these the gators go to a lot of these camps
00:09:48because the water's low
00:09:49that's the reason
00:09:50i think it's over there
00:09:54to the left
00:09:55to the left
00:09:56oh golly
00:09:59see the line moving

00:11:26uh-oh
00:11:30he ain't got a leg
00:11:32one i couldn't grab the leg
00:11:34look at this
00:11:35look up
00:11:36look look look
00:11:36see all that
00:11:39yeah
00:11:39now the gator's shooing on him
00:11:41ooh
00:11:42yep
00:11:42i bet that nuisance gator's somewhere around here
00:11:44yep
00:11:45we're gonna get him
00:11:46this seven footer isn't big enough to be the gator terrorizing camps
00:11:52but with bite marks and a missing leg bruce knows they're on the right trail
00:11:57when i seen it i told anna that big gator's out here somewhere
00:12:00sooner or later we got to catch him
00:12:03that little dude was feisty but i know he's not the one
00:12:08we just kind of keep looking for him
00:12:10he's right here
00:12:11over at bayou lefou
00:12:24that one need to be a little longer
00:12:26we gotta put them all the same length
00:12:29veteran swamper joey edgar is counting on his daughter cali's improved sharpshooting
00:12:34to help deal with the unpredictable water levels
00:12:38that could have been an alligator right there
00:12:44with the water dropping like it is
00:12:46it's gonna be harder to find these alligators
00:12:49they spread out
00:12:50so i'm gonna try to get cali to shoot one or two
00:12:52while we in between lines
00:12:55set up
00:12:57go ahead and set up
00:13:00they got some big ones
00:13:01that's a giant up ahead
00:13:02you ain't gonna be able to get no wide
00:13:14here here here
00:13:16boat don't move
00:13:18oh he's flat
00:13:23we gotta get close
00:13:25okay
00:13:26oh we're on fire
00:13:30we're on fire
00:13:31wait the boat
00:13:32the boat's on fire
00:13:34oh my gosh
00:13:36hold on
00:13:38back in bayou lefou
00:13:44the boat's on fire
00:13:45we're on fire
00:13:46hold on
00:13:47joey and cali are scrambling to put out a fire before their day goes up in smoke
00:13:52oh my gosh
00:13:54hold on
00:14:01hold on
00:14:03hold on
00:14:06all right
00:14:06we got it
00:14:08they got gas and exhaust
00:14:10it was on fire right on top of the muffler
00:14:12this one was on fire
00:14:13this one was on fire too
00:14:14my side was on fire
00:14:15oh no joke
00:14:16yeah
00:14:16i tried to start the motor
00:14:19and she dumps gas right before she pops off
00:14:22and it starts afar
00:14:24that wasn't that wasn't too fun
00:14:26i was really concerned about our safety at first
00:14:29i was worried that we wouldn't be able to stop it but we did get it stopped
00:14:33don't start the motor
00:14:34you're scaring me dad
00:14:36let's maybe let it evaporate
00:14:38we're still gonna catch gases like oily
00:14:40we got some hiccups but we go get it
00:14:43that was too dangerous
00:14:54but thank god it didn't happen again
00:14:56the hunters escape unharmed
00:14:59but joey knows better than to push their luck with this boat
00:15:03we have a bunch of alligators on the line
00:15:05and we got a day's work to put in
00:15:08i'm gonna have to make a phone call and get another boat
00:15:11we gotta figure this out
00:15:13because that was scary
00:15:14meanwhile over in bayou tbaton
00:15:29with water levels receding
00:15:31daniel edgar and his deckhand zach katcham
00:15:34head out to an alligator nesting area that's facing big trouble after the recent floods
00:15:40right up here
00:15:42it's why i've got a lot of nests
00:15:44so we'll check it out and see
00:15:46daniel relies on the extra income he earns from harvesting gator eggs to make it through the offseason
00:15:53zach and i are fishing alligators in an area where i pick eggs
00:15:57one nest of eggs is worth more than 70 dollars she can do that for 30 years
00:16:03i want to sustain a level of females so i can continue to pick eggs
00:16:09but those floods just brought a whole new bunch of bulls in here and they're all claiming territory
00:16:17when waters in the atchafalaya basin rise fast like they did a couple days ago
00:16:23big bulls swim into new hunting grounds and when bulls move into a new area they kill females and destroy nests to wipe out future rivals
00:16:34so daniel and zach need to eliminate the males without harming the females
00:16:41i just want to take our males
00:16:43so what we're going to do we're going to just catch and release the females
00:16:47from the boat
00:16:48from the boat
00:16:49we're going to snag the gator
00:16:50yes
00:16:51on the side of the boat
00:16:52yes
00:16:52and you're going to sex them
00:16:54yes
00:16:54while they're in the water
00:16:55yes
00:16:56it was really nice knowing you my brother
00:16:59that part is a little bit dangerous because certainly the female doesn't want you touching her
00:17:06death sentence
00:17:07but that's the only way that we can correctly determine if that's a male or a female
00:17:14is this your property
00:17:25yeah i can i can throw right here
00:17:28let's get him
00:17:29no wait why is he on top of the water
00:17:35it's just so shallow he's not going anywhere
00:17:37i can throw the big hook from right here
00:17:38the one that doesn't have barbs
00:17:40we have a barbless hook over here that daniel welded together
00:17:43with another little ring back here so we can pull on this
00:17:47and get it out of the scales of these giant reptiles
00:17:51there's no barb so it does minimal damage it's like getting a little shot
00:17:54it's the best way to release and sex a female out here in the swamp otherwise there's just no way else of doing it
00:18:00you just moved on this
00:18:01look right here
00:18:06that's one right there i don't know how big he is
00:18:11that's another one
00:18:19might be a good one
00:18:23he might
00:18:23okay that's him zach
00:18:25point to the bank
00:18:26all right
00:18:27that's him
00:18:27oh money shot
00:18:29money shot
00:18:30let's see it
00:18:36call him zach
00:18:38call him zach
00:18:39call him zach
00:18:40call him zach
00:18:41don't give him no slack
00:18:42no barb
00:18:43come and help
00:18:44yeah
00:18:45call him buddy
00:18:46oh he's biting
00:18:47he's biting
00:18:48let me check
00:18:49hold on
00:18:50all right
00:18:51oh
00:18:52watch out
00:18:53i'm gonna check that one
00:18:55this is a lot harder than shooting them
00:18:59be careful
00:19:03oh look at that thing looking at you better check
00:19:07that's the line of these right there
00:19:09it's a female a big one too
00:19:11okay you gotta turn it loose
00:19:13hold on hold on
00:19:14we're good we're clear
00:19:15i understand what daniel's trying to get at
00:19:19the bigger female alligators lay the most eggs and make the most money for mr daniel in his off season
00:19:24i can't afford to kill that
00:19:27what about afford getting a new finger bro
00:19:29but wrestling a live alligator and releasing it is not something you want to do ever to be honest but
00:19:35this is crazy you got me out here doing some crazy stuff
00:19:38all right let's see if we can find us a meal
00:19:41i got the hook let's keep going
00:19:49back in bayou park ruse
00:20:00troy bet jacob he'd catch the biggest gator today
00:20:04or else worked up his cash register
00:20:08oh you motherfucker
00:20:12but troy's boat is struggling to navigate the low water
00:20:15one day it's two foot higher the next day it's two foot lower
00:20:20you just can't adjust
00:20:22you adjust for it and then it changes overnight
00:20:26you keep juicing it though you're gonna overheat your motor
00:20:30then we ain't going nowhere
00:20:32man i'm terrified i don't want to be no cash here we gotta hustle
00:20:35i've been working with this man for six years
00:20:37high water low water all day long he's pushing pushing pushing
00:20:40we gotta get the biggest one we gotta get the biggest one i gotta get that i gotta beat jacob
00:20:43he's extremely competitive
00:20:46oh yeah
00:20:48lord
00:20:50is that an alligator?
00:20:52it sure is
00:20:53i don't see nothing

00:21:47yeah this one could save us pee we
00:22:00jacob's gonna save some money now
00:22:01i'm not worried about jacob saving the money now
00:22:03i'm not worried about jacob saving the money now
00:22:07This one could save us, Pee-wee.
00:22:09Jacob's going to save some money now.
00:22:12I'm not worried about Jacob saving money.
00:22:14I'm worried about me saving embarrassment.
00:22:17Ready? One, two, three.
00:22:20One, two.
00:22:22This massive 11-footer is their biggest gator of the day,
00:22:26but the hunters are still expecting stiff competition
00:22:29for Jacob and Willie.
00:22:32I think we're doing pretty good with our lines,
00:22:34but our big competitor over there
00:22:38is Lil' Willie with that treble hook.
00:22:40We're catching pretty good,
00:22:42but Lil' Willie, he's the treble hook master, you know?
00:22:44He's a big old boy, and he's got some strength,
00:22:47and if he's throwing a hook, it's on a 12-plus giant.
00:22:50I don't want to be a cashier.
00:22:51You're so worried about having to push some buttons.
00:22:54Would you forget how to count?
00:22:56I don't know how to work my phone
00:22:57much later than you cash writers.
00:22:59I don't want to have to teach you how to use it,
00:23:01so I'm on your side.
00:23:04Meanwhile, in Bayou Perdue,
00:23:13fallen water levels have forced giants
00:23:16out of their backwoods holes,
00:23:18and now Bruce and Anna are tracking a monster
00:23:20that's terrorizing nearby camps.
00:23:23I hope we get that gator today.
00:23:25I hope we can, too.
00:23:27I want those little kids to be able to swim.
00:23:29Yeah.
00:23:29I tell you, I know, back in the day
00:23:31when we were kids, we'd have a gator by our camp,
00:23:34and we'd have to wait for Pawpaw to take care of it,
00:23:37and we ate good that night.
00:23:40But if we could get rid of that gator,
00:23:42it would really help them out.
00:23:43An old man's scared that he's going to lose his dogs, you know?
00:23:45Yeah.
00:23:47And his grandkids, so we don't want that to happen.
00:23:49No, we can get him.
00:23:51The community really depends on alligator hunters down here
00:23:54to take care of their big gators around camps
00:23:56and things like this,
00:23:57because not everybody has gator tags.
00:23:59You can't just go out and shoot an alligator if you want to.
00:24:01It's illegal.
00:24:02So, you know, we have tags in that area.
00:24:04We're going to do our best to help you out.
00:24:06Mr. Bruce, that line's moving.
00:24:23Oh!
00:24:24It's pulled out to the left.
00:24:26I know, I see it.
00:24:27That's a big gator.
00:24:28I can tell the way it's moving.
00:24:29It could be him.
00:24:30This has got to be him.
00:24:31Woo!
00:24:32He's still moving.
00:24:32Look at the tree shaking.
00:24:34I got the pole.
00:24:35I got the pole.
00:24:36Get the pole.
00:24:37Get up there.
00:24:38Let's see.
00:24:43Uh.
00:24:48You good?
00:24:50Scott.
00:24:51Mr. Bruce, he feels big.
00:24:53Oh, no!
00:24:57In Bayou, Purdue...
00:24:59Mr. Bruce, he feels big.
00:25:00Oh, no!
00:25:02Bruce and Anna are tangling with a feisty beast.
00:25:05Bruce, let's go see him out!
00:25:09I don't want to lose him.
00:25:10Nope.
00:25:11Get him!
00:25:12Let him go down.
00:25:17Mr. Bruce, something's going on.
00:25:18Can't get him up.
00:25:22Let me get this.
00:25:23Just so heavy.
00:25:24I'm going to push this out.
00:25:29You're on his head.
00:25:30Get him up.
00:25:30Get him up.
00:25:31Whoa!
00:25:31Get the gun.
00:25:32He's heavy.
00:25:36Get him up.
00:25:37Get him up.
00:25:38Whoa!
00:25:38Whoa!
00:25:39It's him.
00:25:39It's him!
00:25:42Come on, buddy.
00:25:43You want to get him up?
00:25:46I got a good shot.
00:25:47I got him.
00:25:49I got him.
00:25:58That's a nice gator.
00:26:00Yep.
00:26:00You think it's him?
00:26:02That ain't him.
00:26:03I guarantee you, this ain't him.
00:26:05He might be able to eat a small cat or something.
00:26:07Ain't a bad gator.
00:26:08It just ain't the one we're looking for.
00:26:11We're going to get him up.
00:26:14Good.
00:26:16Swing him in.
00:26:16Ready?
00:26:17One, two, three, go.
00:26:19This nine-footer is a good catch, but it's not the beast they're looking for.
00:26:24There's a lot of gators around this camp, and that's a huge problem, and we needed to
00:26:28get him out of there.
00:26:29But it's certainly not this 12-footer that he's talking about.
00:26:32So I'm hoping this morning we got a 12-footer on that line.
00:26:34We can go back and show him, like, hey, we did this.
00:26:37We got it out.
00:26:38All right.
00:26:38Hold on, girl.
00:26:39We got to go.
00:26:40I hope we can't take gators today.
00:26:42I hope we can, too.
00:26:44I want those little kids to be able to swim.
00:26:47Meanwhile, in Bayou Dresour, in their competition with Troy, Jacob hasn't caught anything over
00:27:0210 feet on the lines.
00:27:04Mine ain't doing too good, Willie.
00:27:07A lot of bait still hanging.
00:27:09That water fell a good foot for the house.
00:27:11But the hunters still have an ace up their sleeve.
00:27:16Fishing out here today with all these stumps is going to be hard with this low water.
00:27:21The alligators ain't biting.
00:27:22We're going to make them bite.
00:27:23With the lawns not producing or nothing, trouble hooking is the one way that we know how to put
00:27:27alligators in the boat.
00:27:28Look at that pile of bubbles over there, Mr. Jacob.
00:27:31We're the sniping and trouble hooking kings out here.
00:27:34Mr. Troy and them, they don't do a whole lot of that.
00:27:37They run a lot of lawns.
00:27:38So I think this is going to be an easy, easy competition.
00:27:42The way it's bubbling, it looks like a big one.
00:27:46Don't get me excited, Willie.
00:27:48We're about to find out.
00:27:49Fixin' to be on like Donkey Kong.
00:28:01Yes, who that is.
00:28:03Keep on, Willie.
00:28:06Hey, you dead suck a type.
00:28:10Wee, wee, I see a big old deal, Willie.
00:28:14Wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee.
00:28:18Wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee.
00:28:21Wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee.
00:28:22Wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee.
00:28:23Oh.
00:28:28Over there by that tree, Mr. Jacob.
00:28:33Seen back there by that tree?
00:28:37He's right here.
00:28:48Got him.
00:29:00Yeah, he broke it.
00:29:01Ah.
00:29:03You all right?
00:29:04Man, he about tore my fingers off.
00:29:06I know.
00:29:07Thought he was going to pull yard the boat.
00:29:09The shallower the water, the harder alligator will pull a stocky 12-foot alligator in shallow
00:29:14water, he'll, he'll take a hook and a heartbeat.
00:29:18That was a big gator.
00:29:19That was a big gator.
00:29:21Man, he broke my rope.
00:29:22With no more treble hooks on board, the hunters must rely on their lines to beat Troy.
00:29:29We're trying to catch some big, big gators, and right now I'm a little iffy about it,
00:29:33because if his lines don't perform, he might have us beat.
00:29:37Well, I guess we'll have to see.
00:29:39You don't think he's still right there, huh?
00:29:42No, that gator.
00:29:44Gone, gone, paton.
00:29:45Went out there somewhere.
00:29:47Damn it.
00:29:48Really?
00:29:48Across the bayou, after their airboat caught fire, Joey and Callie were forced to change
00:30:09boats, costing them valuable time on the water.
00:30:13All right, Betty, are you ready?
00:30:14Yeah, I'm ready.
00:30:16Let's roll.
00:30:16You got your big rifle?
00:30:19Yeah, I got, I got all my stuff.
00:30:20I got our tags.
00:30:21I made a phone call to my cousin.
00:30:24He brought me another boat, and now that Callie and I are hunting with the big skiff, fishing's
00:30:30going to be tough today because that water's so low.
00:30:33An airboat glides across the top of the water, making it ideal for shallow swamps.
00:30:38But this skiff relies on an outboard motor with a propeller that must run nearly a foot below
00:30:44the water line.
00:30:46Got a lot to do today, Joey.
00:30:48We're just getting, it's late, and we're just getting started.
00:30:50I know.
00:30:59Unbelievable.
00:31:00What?
00:31:00How stumpy it is.
00:31:02Yeah.
00:31:03How many lines we got, Dad?
00:31:04Oh, probably about 17 left.
00:31:07You got to work.
00:31:10Yeah, I got to work.
00:31:11A lot to do.
00:31:14I'm ready.
00:31:19Line's tight.
00:31:20I know.
00:31:20It might be a big one.
00:31:27Decent alligator.
00:31:27Oh, my gosh.
00:31:37Hey, could it get you a shot?
00:31:42Where the alligator?
00:31:44Hold him, Daddy.
00:31:45Whoa.
00:31:46Whoa.
00:31:47Whoa.
00:31:49Oh, my gosh.
00:31:52Hold him, Dad.
00:31:53Got him.
00:32:08Good job.
00:32:09Working hard for that money.
00:32:11Hard, hard money.
00:32:15I'm mentally frustrated with everything.
00:32:18This is a solid eight-footer, but the hunters need to hustle to make up for lost time.
00:32:24And Joey worries their new boat could slow him down in shallow water.
00:32:28With the water dropping like it is, I'm really concerned about the day we're fishing in the outboard.
00:32:34So it's going to be tough.
00:32:35We got our challenges ahead of us, but we got alligators to kill, and we have a job to do.
00:32:41Survival mode.
00:32:43God is good.
00:32:44We got another boat.
00:32:45Meanwhile, in Bayou-T-Baton, Daniel and Zach are trying to protect a nesting ground from big bull gators that moved in during the early season floods.
00:33:09Come on, baby.
00:33:10Come on.
00:33:15See there's one in there?
00:33:18I can't tell how big he is in the shallows.
00:33:22There's a monster going down the canal the other way.
00:33:25You see it to the right?
00:33:28But I think we should chill here a second, because I'm pretty sure one went down to the left of that stump.
00:33:34All right?
00:33:35We're out here just targeting the big male gators, but to do that, you've got to check to see if it's a male or female.
00:33:42Our wife's going to be pissed at you if she has to raise those twins on her own.
00:33:46We have to pull this gator in alive with the catch-and-release treble hook and sex this alligator.
00:33:53These gators are going to be super pissed off coming anywhere near this boat and being dragged out of the swamp.
00:33:58This pocket looks so good.
00:34:00There's got to be a big one here.
00:34:02It's right against that stump.
00:34:05All right.
00:34:05I think he's right here.
00:34:06I think so, Zach.
00:34:08Right on this side of that tree.
00:34:09Yeah.
00:34:13Yeah, look, he's right on the side of you.
00:34:15I might still have him.
00:34:17I'm stupid.
00:34:18Is that him, Zach?
00:34:20Yep.
00:34:21That's him, Zach.
00:34:21Oh, my God.
00:34:22That's him.
00:34:23Oh, it's you.
00:34:23Oh, it's a big one, Zach.
00:34:25Oh, my God.
00:34:26Pull him, Zach.
00:34:28Don't give him no slack, no bar.
00:34:30I thought he was small.
00:34:31It's not.
00:34:31Oh, it's a big one, Zach.
00:34:56Oh, my God.
00:35:00He's so big.
00:35:04Oh, my God.
00:35:05You take him off.
00:35:06Oh, my God.
00:35:08Oh.
00:35:08You didn't kill me.
00:35:10I just pissed him off.
00:35:11Shoot him again.
00:35:13Pull him, Zach.
00:35:14It's slippery.
00:35:16Shoot him.
00:35:18You got it.
00:35:19Shoot him.
00:35:19That is not a female, son.
00:35:28Oh, my God.
00:35:30I thought it's one of our little females.
00:35:32No, there's nothing a little about that.
00:35:35Oh, that's a fool.
00:35:37At 12 feet long, this is exactly the kind of bull gator they were looking to remove from the area.
00:35:43Look at this man slid right out.
00:35:47I mean, it's working.
00:35:49You have to protect your population of fish or animals or alligators.
00:35:54All of that comes from females.
00:35:56If they're males, I'm going to kill them.
00:35:58Because now there's less chance for these females to be eaten by males.
00:36:03This program, I'm feeling pretty good about my program right now.
00:36:06I think we're going to need a bigger boat for this mission.
00:36:12Oh.
00:36:13The fact is that that's the easy gator because we didn't have to sex that one alive.
00:36:18Yeah, you're right.
00:36:20I don't know about this, D.
00:36:21In Bayou Perdue, Bruce and Anna are searching for a giant gator terrifying kids at a nearby camp.
00:36:39And every minute he's on the prowl is another opportunity to wreak havoc.
00:36:44He's got to be around here, right?
00:36:46Oh, he's right here somewhere.
00:36:47He's watching us.
00:36:48We've got to just make him bite on the hook or see him where we can catch him.
00:36:51Hopefully we can catch him.
00:36:53Because a big gator like this would just grab a small chaw and just run with him.
00:36:56Whatever hits the water, they're going to grab it.
00:36:59And once he grabs you, it's over.
00:37:03I think we've got a gator on this one.
00:37:07Hold on.
00:37:10Mine's down.
00:37:18Oh, boy.
00:37:23Get him up.
00:37:25How's he feel?
00:37:26Seen him?
00:37:26I've seen him.
00:37:27Where's he at?
00:37:31Hang on.
00:37:32He's coming up.
00:37:32He's coming up.
00:37:33Whoa!
00:37:34Whoa!
00:37:39Oh!
00:37:40Get him up.
00:37:40Come on.
00:37:41Get him, Mr. Bruce.
00:37:44Whoa!
00:37:45Dang it!
00:37:51Hold him.
00:37:52Hold him.
00:37:52Hold him.
00:37:53Hold him.
00:37:53Hold him.
00:37:54Come on.
00:37:54Get him up.
00:37:54Get him up.
00:37:58Go!
00:37:59Get him.
00:37:59Get him.
00:38:09That's not him.
00:38:10Nah.
00:38:10He's too small.
00:38:11But, hey.
00:38:12It's a gator.
00:38:12This seven-footer put up a big fight.
00:38:15Look, Mr. Bruce.
00:38:16He doesn't have an arm.
00:38:17The other gator didn't either.
00:38:18That means...
00:38:18That means he's in the area.
00:38:20He's right here.
00:38:21I can guarantee you that.
00:38:22If his arm's gone.
00:38:24But it's clear there's a much larger monster lurking nearby.
00:38:28He's nice size, but just ain't the one they're talking about.
00:38:31I know they got a big gator here somewhere.
00:38:33We just got to catch him.
00:38:34That's all I know.
00:38:34We got to catch this gator.
00:38:36There you go.
00:38:38It ain't him, but he sure was a battle.
00:38:40He's here.
00:38:41Don't worry.
00:38:41We're gonna get him.
00:38:42We're getting closer to him.
00:38:44That's for sure.
00:38:44Yep.
00:38:56Back in Bayou Park Rouge, Troy is trying to hedge the biggest gator bed he has with Jacob.
00:39:03If I lose the bed and I got to be the cashier, you're gonna have to help me.
00:39:07That's him.
00:39:08How'd I get mixed up in this?
00:39:09But Pickle isn't taking the bait.
00:39:12It's funny to sit back and watch Jacob and Mr. Troy kind of bicker, because I'm usually
00:39:16the one bickering with him.
00:39:18And it's like, I'm looking at Jacob and it's kind of like, tag, you're it.
00:39:21But at the same time, me and Willie try to stay out of it as much as possible.
00:39:25We're not in this deal.
00:39:26It's kind of fun to just sit back in the sidelines and watch it all unfold.
00:39:29Is that one?
00:39:34It's pulling.
00:39:35What'd you say?
00:39:38It was.
00:39:39It's a good one.
00:40:03In Bayou Park Cruise, Troy and Pickle had locked horns with a giant.
00:40:33What are you waiting on?
00:40:35I gotta get a shot, I gotta get a shot!
00:40:38Shoot the damn thing!
00:40:40Give me a shot, give me a shot!
00:40:46Juno, what are you doing?
00:40:57Yeah, you almost lost a deckhand.
00:40:59What happened? Almost lost my little pee-wee one.
00:41:02What? You didn't see what happened?
00:41:04Uh-uh.
00:41:06Oh, the branch, the alligator almost took my boot.
00:41:09I was caught up in a, almost in a treble hook.
00:41:12No, I didn't see that.
00:41:13I didn't see that.
00:41:14Of course not.
00:41:15You don't know what I do up there.
00:41:18You ain't got a clue.
00:41:20This could be him. He's big.
00:41:25This is their second monster over 11 feet,
00:41:28but Troy's not sure it's enough to beat Jacob.
00:41:31It can go either way.
00:41:33I catch a lot of big ones,
00:41:35and Jacob had a real good teacher.
00:41:37He catches a lot of big ones, too.
00:41:39That's a good one.
00:41:43Oh, yeah, I'm happy.
00:41:44Might save me from being a cashier.
00:41:46Yeah.
00:41:47Good job, Pete.
00:41:48Where to hunt?
00:41:49Over in Bayou LeFou, after an airboat disaster this morning,
00:42:07Joey and Callie are hustling to make up for lost time and money.
00:42:12No sick days in the swamp.
00:42:14You got to work.
00:42:15No doubt about it.
00:42:16Hard money.
00:42:17It ain't easy money.
00:42:19And it's getting harder and harder.
00:42:22With the bull catching on fire,
00:42:24I knew it was going to be a hard day,
00:42:26but when things happen,
00:42:27you got to roll with the punches,
00:42:28because I'm a hard worker,
00:42:29and I was brought up that way.
00:42:31So whatever dad's asking of me, I'm going to do.
00:42:40Might be a good one.
00:42:41Looks like he's got it tight.
00:42:55Two rifles, Teddy.
00:42:56I got it.
00:43:01Big alligator, Teddy.
00:43:06Whoa.
00:43:09Don't lose them.
00:43:10Whoa.
00:43:11Oh, that's a nice one.
00:43:12Hold him, Daddy.
00:43:13Hold him, Daddy.
00:43:17Got him, Daddy.
00:43:18It's a nice one.
00:43:19Hard money.
00:43:20Hard money.
00:43:21This 10-footer helped turn their day around,
00:43:24and Joey's impressed by his daughter's resilience.
00:43:36There you go.
00:43:37No matter what, Teddy, we're going to get the job done.
00:43:39Yeah, we got to.
00:43:40We got money to make.
00:43:41I'm really proud of Callie.
00:43:42She adjusts real easy, and it didn't bother one bit that we had to change boats.
00:43:58But now we're halfway through the day, the boat's starting to fill up, and we're back on track.
00:44:02Callie and I, we make a great team, and we just, we never give up.
00:44:07Well, Teddy, like my papa used to say, there's always a problem.
00:44:11Always something.
00:44:12You got to be ready for anything.
00:44:15Go with the flow.
00:44:28Back in Bayou Trashour, Jacob and Little Willie's lines haven't produced enough to beat Troy.
00:44:34And Jacob's starting to suspect he knows why.
00:44:38All right, Willie, do you see the line?
00:44:40I see where the line was tied.
00:44:42I see our clothes pinning off.
00:44:45There's only one contrary I know that uses white flag, and that's Troy Landry.
00:44:49That's our line, though.
00:44:51Look at your knot up there.
00:44:52The old Troy Landry pulls a slick one.
00:44:54He don't want his son and Little Willie to outdo him.
00:44:57Them motherfuckers.
00:45:00Look, look in the water.
00:45:03I thought he'd be smart enough to at least get rid of the evidence.
00:45:06I know my dad better than anybody else, and I know he's not one to want to lose.
00:45:11So he's going to do whatever it takes to come back with the biggest alligator.
00:45:14We found our poachers.
00:45:16Took two of our lines up the bow right there.
00:45:19Where?
00:45:20Right there.
00:45:21For real?
00:45:22Took both of them.
00:45:23What?
00:45:24Huh?
00:45:25Why you said we ran your line?
00:45:26Because where we had a line, they got a white flag now, and the blue flag's floating in the bayou.
00:45:30I don't know what you're talking about.
00:45:32No, I didn't pull no little tricks to me.
00:45:35I wouldn't do that to Jacob.
00:45:37We picked a flag up for fingerprints.
00:45:42So we're going to need your fingerprints by the end of the day.
00:45:48Poor babies.
00:45:49That's all right.
00:45:50We're going to go catch y'all at home.
00:45:54Jacob knows if he doesn't turn his day around, he could wind up washing his daddy's truck.
00:46:00All right, Willie.
00:46:13We might have a giant right here.
00:46:17Looks mighty muddy.
00:46:20Feels good?
00:46:21Or is it just a log you hooked up on?
00:46:23Ooh, that's a big one.
00:46:28Oh, no joke, it's not just a log?
00:46:30No.
00:46:32Ooh, now you got me excited.
00:46:34Ooh, look at the bubbles coming up, Willie.
00:46:44In Bayou Trishore,
00:46:50Jacob and Willie hooked a giant that could be big enough to beat Troy.
00:46:54That is a hammer-shalammer there, buddy.
00:46:59Come on, Willie.
00:47:00Do it for the tic-tac.
00:47:06Oh, dang, Willie.
00:47:12Oh, jeez.
00:47:13I'm pulling up real slow.
00:47:15Ooh, Willie.
00:47:16That's a good one, Willie.
00:47:17Ooh.
00:47:18He's going on top of the pile.
00:47:20I'd say he's going to go 11.
00:47:2111-something.
00:47:22At over 11 feet, Jacob's hoping this beast is big enough to win the competition.
00:47:30He tried to take one of our alligators, but it's going to take a hell of an alligator to be bigger than this one.
00:47:37So my confidence is up.
00:47:38You know, I'm ready to get back to Duffy's and get that triple-X shirt for him to wear.
00:47:41I think this is what's going to make him be the cashier at Duffy's.
00:47:43Whew.
00:47:44Whew.
00:47:45Whew.
00:47:46Whew.
00:47:47Whew.
00:47:48Whew.
00:47:49Whew.
00:47:50Whew.
00:47:51Whew.
00:47:52Whew.
00:47:53Whew.
00:47:54Whew.
00:48:00Whew.
00:48:01Whew, Whew.
00:48:02Whew.
00:48:03Wow.
00:48:04Whew.
00:48:05Whew.
00:48:07Whew.
00:48:08Whew.
00:48:09Huh.
00:48:10띡gh.
00:48:11Whew.
00:48:12Weird.
00:48:13Whew.
00:48:26Haw.

00:50:23monster 12 footer into submission took every ounce of the hunter's strength but for daniel the extra effort
00:50:30is worth it to protect his gator nests yeah look at that that's how you know he's a male oh yeah
00:50:37i don't have to check no this is not real easy but it's good that i'm doing this i don't need this

00:53:55put a line right here somewhere we did yeah we missed a line somewhere i think it was too shallow
00:54:06over here i thought i'd put one over there where we just turned around at
00:54:10yeah i think we only put three because it got shallow to the back i forgot it was too shallow
00:54:14okay man the water's low but we have to run every line because if you skip one you can bet that's
00:54:24gonna be the biggest alligator of the day it's gonna be on the line you skip
00:54:27do you see the line yes i do see the line where is it to the left i don't see nothing
00:54:42oh come on got something yeah we got something can you bring it to the side of the boat no

00:56:27to the east in bayou lefou after fighting through breakdowns and bad luck joey and cali are searching
00:56:41for one more beast to redeem their day one more alligator one more teddy
00:56:49you may think you have one thing planned and it can totally go the whole wrong way but i'm gonna
00:56:59come do it no matter what i'm an edgar you know i got a name to live up to whatever you need me to do
00:57:04i'm gonna do it might be a big one
00:57:15it's tight the line's tight today we can see
00:57:19all these alligators are all wrapped up
00:57:22i can't hardly fight him hold on gotta shoot this
00:57:53oh my god
00:57:56in bayou lefou joey and cali are wrestling a powerful gator
00:58:16hold on gotta shoot this thing
00:58:22good shot got him dad it's a nice one that's a nice one for the last one yep this nine footer is
00:58:32the perfect way to wrap up a tough day lucky we had another boat to come finish our day and for the
00:58:40edgars today's struggle turned into a powerful lesson from the swamp you might think you know the
00:58:46plan of the day but it changes on us you know what life is it's like that for everybody you can live
00:58:51in the city if you call break what you're gonna do you still got to go to work you better get on
00:58:56the bus or call for a ride of course it's very important to keep it moving and these kids
00:59:02they have to learn that ali didn't get emotional and give up on me we filled this other boat with
00:59:08alligators and i felt good as a father just that lesson being taught yeah we still made a day's worth of
00:59:15work daddy i think you're ready to be your own captain next year what you think yeah me too
00:59:21you're ready huh yeah i'm ready
00:59:24back in value t bought home lord it down buddy daniel and zach have already cleared six bulls

01:00:55he's not shaking back from that six big bulls today removing another 12-foot bull isn't easy
01:01:12come on get my hook back son but for daniel it's well worth the effort success in life for anything and
01:01:20anyone is normally an extra effort today it was a challenge but we had a good day
01:01:29and we did a good thing all at the same time everything has to be managed so taking these bulls
01:01:36out that really helps a lot they can run but they can't hide for long
