Iran's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is reportedly unconscious and unable to govern after being seriously injured in a US-Israeli airstrike on February 28.
According to diplomatic documents based on US and Israeli intelligence, Mojtaba is receiving treatment in the holy city of Gom and has been unable to participate in state decision-making. This is the first time his whereabouts have been specifically confirmed to the outside world.
Since being elected as successor last month, Mojtaba has remained completely out of the public eye, fueling speculation. Iranian authorities have claimed they are following his directives, posting messages in his name on social media. A recent condolence message blamed Israel and the US for "terrorism and assassination."
Meanwhile, preparations for the funeral of his father, former supreme leader Ali Khamenei—who died in the same airstrikes—appear to be underway. Intelligence sources have detected signs of at least two graves being prepared in Gom.
The power succession in Iran remains uncertain and chaotic. As President Trump recently said: "I don't know if he is alive." 🇮🇷⚕️💥
