00:00Have you always wondered why most of us are right-handed?
00:03There is a good reason why righties dominate.
00:06Was it because left-handers kept smearing ink across the page in grade school?
00:09No, it was evolution.
00:11Eons ago, our brain's left hemisphere, which is in charge of language, was developing rapidly.
00:16And it also controls the right side of our body.
00:19It's as if early brain development looked at ancient humans and said,
00:23You there, see that spear? Throw it with your right hand.
00:26Plus, if most people use the same hand, then tools and weapons could be standardized,
00:32which made things much easier.
00:33So righties wound up dominating the population.
00:36And lefties stuck around because evolution said,
00:38Eh, sure, why not?
00:40So in the end, we are all equal.
00:42Except when it comes to mechanical can openers.
00:45Why is this thing backwards?
00:48Always wondered. Stream it now, wherever you get your podcasts.
