“Gaucho Gaucho” is basically a love letter to Argentine gauchos. Not the postcard version, more like the people and animals that stubbornly keep living beyond the modern world’s rules. The film opens with this perfectly framed, monochrome shot of something you can’t quite place. A dark mass on a scrubby, tangled patch of grass under an enormous sky. Then it moves. A man hauls himself up, tall boots, wide-brimmed hat, layers of tough fabric. And right after, a horse’s head emerges from the same confusion, shakes itself off, and somehow gets its legs back under control. It’s a simple visual point, made with style: these folks are welded to their land and livestock, not “inspired” by them. Dry, patient, and weirdly satisfying.

„Gaucho Gaucho“ ist kein Marlboro-Trauerfilm, sondern eine Hommage an die argentinischen Cowboy-Cowgirl-Crew, die sich nicht für moderne Kalender interessiert. Der Film legt los wie ein Rätsel. Erst liegt da im Gras etwas Dunkles. Dann bewegt es sich. Ein Mann rappelt sich auf, Stiefel, Hut, Arbeitstexturen. Und aus demselben Klumpen taucht auch noch der Kopf eines Pferdes auf. Ziemlich unmittelbar wird klar: Hier gehören Mensch, Tier und Landschaft nicht zusammen, weil es nett klingt, sondern weil es sich im Bild einfach so anfühlt. Viel monochrom, viel Atmosphäre, null Zeit für Ausreden. Wenn du auf Lässigkeit stehst, die sich nicht erklären muss, ist das dein Ding.
