00:00Preview.
00:00She knows she's got it.
00:02They just all love fashion.
00:03Preview's not just a magazine.
00:05Through the whole disruption.
00:06She just wanted to rebel.
00:07That's the one thing that has stayed the same.
00:13It was 1994.
00:16Liza just came back from New York.
00:19So, sabi niya,
00:19oh, why will I hire you as an editor?
00:22I said, I don't know anything about computers.
00:24How will I do layouts and stuff like that?
00:26So, I kept on thinking, what will I do?
00:27So, you know what I did?
00:28I got magazines.
00:31Cut the blurbs.
00:32Cut everything.
00:33Cut and paste.
00:34And posted it in my photos.
00:36Physical paste.
00:38Physical.
00:38100 pages.
00:40Physical paste that comes out of the…
00:41Physical one by one.
00:42Yeah.
00:42So, and…
00:43This looks cheap.
00:45How will I do this?
00:46I really wanted to convey that fashion has joy but power.
00:53Also, that you can revel in your style.
00:56But you can also have style as a weapon.
01:00And that the most fashionable people have interests outside fashion.
01:05So, I really wanted that diverse editorial mix.
01:09I always visualize like, the preview girl, she's got her style.
01:13She knows she's got it.
01:15But she knows there's still more she can learn.
01:18Like, so it's never a talking down.
01:20You're never condescending to the preview girl.
01:23All in this together, we all love style but we also love life in general.
01:28I just wanted to rebel.
01:30At that time.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Against everything.
01:34Because there was nothing really available that speaks about, you know, fashion.
01:39That, you know, that talks about that era.
01:42Talagang wala.
01:43And that captured the world.
01:45I realized, they just all love fashion.
01:47And I love fashion.
01:48And I can be part of this.
01:50And I think that's the moment I realized that if I can be here, if I can share my vision
01:58with the team, there can be more people who can be part of this conversation.
02:02The more important question is always, what are we adding to the conversation?
02:06Because there's also so much noise and the way you cut through the clutter is genuine connection.
02:14I handled both print and digital.
02:17It was so interesting to see the impact of, like, hearing feedback from our readers and, like, on how they
02:25resonate with the brand.
02:26Like, whether it was just the start with the hashtags and, like, you know, just seeing them post and then
02:32add the hashtag.
02:33And it was just a way of saying, I see myself as a preview girl or as one with preview.
02:41And, you know, that was so heartwarming.
02:44It was such a nice way of people saying, like, this is, like, preview encapsulates who I am.
02:54Or it's like, it's a perfect adjective or hashtag to use to also put myself out there.
03:00And for...
03:01Because it became more than just a magazine.
03:03That's when you really see, like, how the brand impacts people.
03:06Because for them to feel, like, this brand resonates with me enough for me to add it as a hashtag
03:13onto my own personal posts, that makes such a difference.
03:16Somebody said, you know, I grew up in the profits.
03:20And I always felt like I was a freak.
03:22Nobody understood me.
03:24But I saw a copy of preview.
03:29And in the library or in the salon or whatever.
03:32And that became the lifeline.
03:35She was saying that until then, she didn't realize how she would find like-minded people through fashion.
03:44Because when she opened up the magazine, it was like fantasy.
03:49But I could connect with a certain, not just with the content, but there are people out there who live
03:57this stuff, who believe in this stuff.
03:59So, it was really heartwarming for me to see how it became more than a magazine.
04:07It became more than a brand.
04:10And it really is a community.
04:13And not in just the, you know, the standard speak, right?
04:17It's a living, breathing community of people who have their own lives.
04:23And then just regularly, you know, get together to bond over their love for fashion.
04:31The preview spirit lives on.
04:34And it's about representation.
04:36It's about giving space for everyone.
04:40I think that's very important for people to see themselves part of the conversation.
04:46That's what we always imparted.
04:49And I think that's something that I am happy every time I see it being reflected in the stories.
04:55There's always something special about firsts.
04:58I'm happy to see Preview continuing to do a lot of firsts too.
05:02That is something that opens a lot of doors.
05:05Like for me, the pride covers.
05:07Because the visual is there.
05:08The aesthetic is there.
05:09But the message is so much powerful.
05:12That once everything is locked in together, that becomes the impact.
05:18Preview is at the zeitgeist of Filipino fashion.
05:22And, you know, at the time I was like, okay.
05:27I mean like it means we're okay.
05:30It's such a big word.
05:32It's so highfalutin.
05:33It's like how do you really like understand it.
05:36I really feel I grew up full range of Preview.
05:42And, you know, I really see how it's really kept staying at the zeitgeist.
05:50By continuously evolving.
05:52By continuously sticking to its brand values.
05:56It may be through a different medium now.
05:59Yeah.
06:00And it may be featuring new people.
06:04Because it's capturing the culture of today.
06:08It's capturing who are the people today.
06:10How are people thinking.
06:12And now with 4 million, you know, users, monthly users.
06:16You just see the impact of that.
06:21Because this magazine has really been there through the height and the glory of print days.
06:28Through the whole disruption of when new media came in and when digital came in.
06:35So how social media forced us all to begin producing content in more ways than just the standard print form.
06:47To have, you know, a community come in.
06:50Now, the turning point for me was realizing that it's not just about, it's not really about where we publish
06:57our stories.
06:57It's about what stories we tell.
07:00The platforms may have changed, but I think the rigor has remained the same.
07:04At the end of the day, like preview, during print and now in digital.
07:09We're always just trying to create content that resonates emotionally, visually, and culturally.
07:18Because that's the thing also with preview.
07:20You try to chronicle the culture as it happens.
07:26I think that's the one thing that has stayed the same.
07:28Today we're reminded that preview is not just a magazine or a website.
07:33It's a movement, a connection, the peg.
07:38And it's a place where creative expression meets what's really happening in the world.
07:43And it's fabulous.
07:44It's fabulous.
07:45And it's fabulous.
07:46Thanks.
