00:01This is it, I'm here in Zambia, this is insertion day, and I'm super excited to meet my partner.
00:08I know what I brought to the table.
00:09And I'm respecting her.
00:10You've not respected me in any way.
00:12So I'm about to get dropped off and meet my partner.
00:15Did I listen to you bitch and complain?
00:17Yes.
00:18I hope she's cool down to earth.
00:20Look at my point of view.
00:21I brought you here.
00:22You didn't get me here, I got myself here.
00:24If my partner is a bossy alpha, I think I can work with that.
00:28You're all right, I'm done talking to you then.
00:30Like, let's be clear, you're so full of .
00:32Really?
00:33Yeah.
00:34If my partner is bossy, then I'm just going to have to show them that I wear the pants.
00:41I'm just not sure anybody can survive here for 21 days.
00:45Oh my God.
00:48Two strangers.
00:49Ha!
00:50Go, go, go, go, go!
00:52No food.
00:54Ah!
00:55Ah!
00:57No water.
00:59Ah!
01:0121 days.
01:02Don't tap.
01:03Ah!
01:04Die first.
01:05Naked and afraid.
01:09Ah!
01:11Ah!
01:14Ah!
01:16Ah!
01:17Ah!
01:20It's crazy what these elephants are capable of doing out here.
01:24They just break everything and keep walking.
01:28I think you've got to be crazy to be out here.
01:33I think the thing that scares me the most is, like, it's really hard to see a long distance.
01:37I think you just have to have your head on a swivel all the time.
01:46Zambia's Luonga Valley is one of Africa's last untamed frontiers.
01:57The region is now at the tail end of the rainy season, when sudden storms rip across the valley
02:02and trap rainwater as floods recede, drawing prey and predators from across the area, including
02:09the seven-ton African elephant.
02:11This unpredictable giant is capable of reaching charging speeds of 25 miles per hour, crushing
02:18anything in its path.
02:25I'm hoping to be able to hunt some impala out here and some puku.
02:28There's definitely a lot of places for these animals to hide, so it's not going to make
02:32getting to them very easy.
02:33But it's also an advantage to win your stalking game.
02:38All right, this is it.
02:49Here we go.
02:50I'm so nervous.
02:52I think because I have a deeper awareness of how hard this is going to be and what it's
02:57going to take to get through it, I think that's what makes me so nervous.
03:06All right, sorry, Mom.
03:09Pretty naked right now.
03:10And, um, we're in the bush.
03:13This is super excited.
03:14I, uh, can't wait to meet my partner and finally figure out what she's all about.
03:18Hopefully they're super cool and down to earth, laid back, and we can just have a good time,
03:24make this a vacation instead of a challenge.
03:26If my partner is bossy, then I'm just going to have to show them that I wear the pants.
03:31Yeah, this is wild how dense this is.
03:34Gosh, it's so thick back here.
03:37I'm just nervous for how hard it's going to be.
03:39Let's cross our fingers and hope that my partner is awesome.
03:43I hope they're cool because I have to spend three weeks with them.
03:50Hey, how are you?
03:52Thanks for being here.
03:54I'm Ali.
03:55Nice to meet you.
03:55Where are you from?
03:56I'm from North Carolina.
03:57You're from the south.
03:58I can tell already.
03:59Florida.
04:00So we're not too far apart.
04:01We're not too far.
04:02Hello, Americans.
04:04Anyways, what do you do?
04:05So I'm a wilderness instructor, so I, like, lead expeditions, and I hunt as well.
04:11I guess the theme for my life has been do hard in beautiful places.
04:18I take people into beautiful and also rugged wilderness areas and help them through various challenges in the wild.
04:27I've always just wanted to be outdoors all the time, even as a kid.
04:31And if you asked me at 10 years old what I wanted to do when I grow up, I would
04:36have told you that I wanted to live in the woods off the land.
05:08So you got a lot of experience, though, like, survival life.
05:09I think it was trapping, shelter building, fire skills, and hunting.
05:13And this right here is our setup for killing some South African Zambia bad mother truckers.
05:23Man, being a tree climber, I love that.
05:25So I just hope that we can both work together and, like, I'll pull my weight, you pull your weight.
05:30We'll just work together and balance it.
05:31And send it.
05:32Yeah, just send it.
05:34Yeah.
05:35For sure.
05:36Well, um, you want to see what we got?
05:38Yeah, I do want to see what we got.
05:39Yeah.
05:40Uh, this looks like yours.
05:42Yeah, that's mine.
05:43Uh, I got my bow and arrows.
05:46I actually have the same bow.
05:48Yeah, let's check out what you got.
05:49So here's what I have.
05:50I actually had a custom knife made.
05:53That's awesome.
05:54Um, yeah, so this is the blade.
05:55Okay.
05:56And then we do have a little baby saw blade just in case we need it, so.
06:00Perfect.
06:00In addition to their survival items, Allison and Tyler have been given a pot to boil water and a fire
06:07starter.
06:07So I have one more thing in here.
06:09We've got a map.
06:10Okay.
06:13Looks like that's where we are.
06:14Okay.
06:15And then we've got maybe two water sources.
06:18Yeah, that was definitely closer.
06:20So we'll plan to come here, stay here for a while, and then we'll bounce over.
06:24It'd be nice anyways towards the end to be a little closer to extraction.
06:27Oh, right, yeah.
06:28So, well, I guess it looks like we better start getting going.
06:31You want me to lead?
06:32Yep, go ahead.
06:32Okay.
06:34Allison and Tyler have decided to trek to the closest water source, four miles northeast.
06:40The hike will take them through tangles of thorns and areas of grassland, prime hunting grounds for lions, Africa's most
06:49feared predator.
06:56There's a big cloud right there.
06:58Looks like it might rain soon.
07:00Yeah.
07:01A bunch of really tall grass here.
07:04Maybe we should be your left.
07:06Okay.
07:07I'm stuck.
07:08Let's catch a game trail.
07:10If you come right here.
07:11Do you see one?
07:11We'll make one and then we'll be there.
07:13We'll make one.
07:13Yep, this is pretty light grass right here, so we won't have an issue.
07:17I'm a little bit concerned about the fact that he's already telling me what to do.
07:21Let's go this way, let's go that way, do this, do that.
07:23You know, I teach survival and I spend so much time living in the wilderness.
07:28Yep.
07:34We're going to cut right again right here.
07:36Okay.
07:36It's getting a little thick up here, so just watch your step and what you're coming into.
07:40Okay.
07:41Oh, yeah.
07:42Thorn.
07:42Oh, there's some under your feet right now, too.
07:44Yeah.
07:45Just be careful on the step.
07:47Oh.
07:48Watch your step right there.
07:50I think we should go left.
07:53I'm going to cut over there, right here.
07:54Okay.
07:54I just...
07:54Oh, yeah.
07:55I personally didn't want to cut through that right there.
07:57Okay.
07:59Let your boyfriend, they watch you coming on the shelf.
08:01Oh, he's really excited for me to be here.
08:02He actually was...
08:04He was like, I hope you get some, like, alpha bro who thinks you don't know anything and he
08:08has to take care of you and, like, doesn't realize that you have a good amount of skills.
08:14I can be bossy sometimes.
08:16Yeah, I kind of am the alpha one.
08:19What?
08:20Yeah, it's just funny.
08:21I'm kind of the alpha one.
08:22Oh.
08:23Okay.
08:29Oh, thunder.
08:31Yeah, I heard that.
08:34We must be getting close.
08:35And we're dipping down a little bit.
08:37We are getting lower, that's for sure.
08:39Yeah.
08:39Oh, yeah.
08:40Look at here.
08:41Oh, yeah.
08:42Starting to rain.
08:43Yeah.
08:44The weather is about to on us.
08:45We need something to keep us safe, something weatherproof.
08:48I like the look of that rock overhang over there.
08:51Do you see the big one behind the tree?
08:53Seeking protection from the impending storm, Allison and Tyler have decided to shelter under
08:58a rock ledge.
09:00With the exception of maybe, like, I don't know, baboons and leopards, maybe lions, it's
09:06kind of hard to get in here.
09:07We can make it work.
09:09So, hopefully, quickly, cliff fire going.
09:11I've got maybe two and a half hours of daylight.
09:16So, what's your idea here?
09:18I'm just blocking this entrance.
09:20That's all I'm doing.
09:21That's it.
09:22What do you think?
09:24What do you like?
09:24I probably wouldn't worry about that entrance, because once we get a fire going.
09:27We can just call it a day.
09:29All right.
09:30The trek has been a lot longer than I thought it was going to be, so we're having to move
09:34faster than I really would like to.
09:36We have no control over the weather, and we only have a few hours of daylight left.
09:41Sunset's pretty early here.
09:45I want to get some water going.
09:47That way, we stay hydrated.
09:48All right.
09:55Rain.
09:56Can't do without a fire.
09:58I just want to go ahead and try to get something for the water.
10:01All right.
10:04Right now, I'm going to focus on one big fire, keeping wood dry.
10:08And keeping the fire going is going to be extremely important because of safety and keeping
10:13our water boiling and keeping these animals away.
10:16Nice.
10:17If you don't have fire, you probably won't be here long.
10:20That's what I'm talking about.
10:21Yeah, if it was raining today, we got to fire sort of quick, somewhat easy.
10:25I think it's a success.
10:26We got water we can blow now.
10:28Yeah.
10:32Looks like it stopped raining.
10:36Super windy.
10:38It's, I don't know, smoke's rough work.
10:42Smoke?
10:43My eye's watering.
10:45You good over there?
10:47Oh my God, I can't handle this smoke.
11:05Oh my God, you need water, you need anything?
11:15Yeah.
11:16The smoke is kicking her ass out here.
11:19It's, I don't know, smoke's rough work, so.
11:22Okay, well, don't walk over there.
11:24You don't, you got to sit right here?
11:25Yeah, I'm just going to sit right here.
11:27It'll be better before you know it.
11:31So, um, I feel a little bit better after throwing up.
11:35The more I talk, the worse I feel.
11:37So I'm just going to lay here and, um, so hopefully I'll feel better in the morning.
11:51Um, so we just woke up.
11:54We had a bit of a rough night.
11:56Um, me, I think more than Tyler.
11:58Um, the smoke from our fire went, like, straight into where we were sleeping.
12:06And I was coughing like crazy.
12:08Um, and eventually I threw up.
12:11Thus, we need some options for sleep.
12:13And move the fire to there.
12:16And we just barely made it through the night with enough firewood.
12:20So we really, we want to, like, have double that amount for tonight.
12:24Because, uh, elephants, I know they're around.
12:26Yeah.
12:27You think this is enough for the night?
12:28No.
12:29Do we got enough stuff to, to get us going bare minimum?
12:33For sure.
12:34Let's go out and get more firewood.
12:36Uh, no, that ain't happening.
12:37I want to try to get some food.
12:39Strange, because I thought we were getting firewood.
12:42Then, uh, you can, you can do it.
12:43Seeing people firewood doesn't make sense.
12:46Whatever.
12:48So, Allie didn't like that.
12:49But my plan for today is going to be some foraging that's going to be very beneficial for us in
12:55the long run.
13:01Today, you know, we had, like, we woke up and we made a game plan of, like, hey, we really
13:07need more firewood this time.
13:08We'd like to have a lot.
13:09And then he just, like, went and foraged.
13:12It takes way more firewood to have a big, nice fire, which is what we need to keep the animals
13:17away.
13:17I hope this is enough firewood to get through the night.
13:20There's a bunch here, a bunch there, and then some over there.
13:24So, yeah.
13:29Hmm.
13:31I don't know what the f*** these are.
13:33I found some type of fruit or nuts, um, and they're almost squishy.
13:40Don't know what they are yet, but we got some puss coming out of this one.
13:45But it's definitely a fruit or a nut.
13:48Just don't know.
13:50Come on, pick them all.
14:00I brought goods.
14:01Did you really?
14:02What'd you got?
14:03You ever seen these?
14:04I have, yeah.
14:05You know what they are?
14:06Yeah, they're the other kind of cucumber.
14:08Oh.
14:08I think there was some type of fruit.
14:12Nope.
14:13Hmm?
14:14Mm-mm.
14:16They're super bitter.
14:18You wouldn't want to eat that.
14:23Yeah.
14:24Mm-hmm.
14:27That one's really bitter.
14:29So, he just went foraging, and he comes back, and he has a bunch of fruit, but it's all from
14:35the same plant, which was weird to me, of like, well, if you don't know if we can eat
14:40this or not, why did you bring all of them?
14:42It should taste just like a cucumber.
14:43If it doesn't taste just like a cucumber, it's not the right thing.
14:46So, that was a waste of energy.
14:49Mm-hmm.
14:57Mm-hmm.
14:59Mm-hmm.
14:59Mm-hmm.
15:01Mm-hmm.
15:01Mm-hmm.
15:01Mm-hmm.
15:01So, um, we have a fire right here under our rock shelter.
15:09Another little fire over here, and we're about to try to get some more sleep, so peace out.
15:24I think it's two, and I think we have enough wood to get through until six in the morning,
15:29so.
15:30We're hoping it'll burn really slow.
15:35Anyway.
15:37What the f*** was that?
15:39A rock fest.
15:40Yeah.
15:41Get up.
15:42The fire was just super, super hot underneath that rock.
15:46Is that what it is?
15:47That's what it is.
15:48That's super dangerous.
15:49It's because there's so much water that comes through here.
15:51There's a lot of water in the rock.
15:53We'll just have a tough night's sleep is all.
15:56I don't want to get crushed.
15:57I don't want to sleep here.
15:59Figure it out tomorrow.
16:01My concern is either the bottom is going to pop, and we're going to get shrapnel,
16:04or the whole thing comes down.
16:06Well, my aspect is, is like way over here, we have a little spot we can sleep.
16:10Tyler, like, I'm really frustrated with you because these things that I'm telling you are
16:14pretty dire.
16:15My aspect is-
16:15You know, if this rock separates, everything's going to go a different direction, and you
16:19can easily get crushed.
16:20I totally get what you're saying.
16:22I just don't look at fear in this thing.
16:25Give us my-
16:25I'm not- I'm not being there.
16:27I'm analyzing the bricks.
16:29All right, so we move the fire from out under the rock to the outside, so-
16:37Just looking out, that's all.
16:41So, move the fire into the opening out there, that way we take the hill off the rock, and
16:48our partner is right over there, right outside of Obama, because, yeah, this rock probably
16:55isn't safe to be under, but I'm technically not under beside it, so, yeah.
17:06I had such a rough night.
17:08I'm exhausted.
17:09The fire, it destabilizes the rock.
17:11Can't sleep under it.
17:13It's too dangerous.
17:13And Tyler was not concerned at all, so I don't really know, like, what's going on in his head.
17:20Our night last night, well, we put our fire under the overhang of a rock.
17:26Started, like, crack-a-lacking all night, so we had to move our fire.
17:30Allie was definitely flipping out.
17:33She was definitely stressing a little bit.
17:36Um, I guess you could say I was a little bit frustrated, a little bit pissed off.
17:41She complained about everything.
17:43First, the smoke, and then it's the wall, rather than just accepting it and keeping your
17:47mouth shut.
17:48I'm pretty committed to the challenge, but you never know.
17:52Um, anything can change, especially with what, with what I'm feeling.
17:59How long do you think we should stay here?
18:01I think we've been, we're going to burn so much energy just getting firewood from further
18:05and further away.
18:07I don't like anything about this spot.
18:08Yeah.
18:09You can't build a stable structure when you're on a slope.
18:12You know, it ain't going to keep you no warm under there.
18:14You can't make any type of fire, so you don't want to move.
18:19Yeah, for sure.
18:20When we got here, I was really excited about the overhanging rock because it was an opportunity
18:25to have an instant dry shelter and a place to have a fire out of the rain.
18:30But now, we can't build underneath the rock anymore because it's too dangerous.
18:36So, we have made the decision to leave.
18:40So, here's our map.
18:42We're here.
18:43Yep.
18:43We're going to have to cut up.
18:45It'll definitely be a major advantage, I think.
18:47I like going this way because then we will have less sun exposure, like, at the height of
18:52the day.
18:52Absolutely.
18:53Let's hit the road.
18:54Think we're good?
18:55Yeah.
18:57Allison and Tyler have decided to move to the second water source in the area, a lagoon
19:03five miles east that draws animals from miles around.
19:07To get there, they must travel through a dry, rocky riverbed, deeper into prime ambush territory.
19:17And you got a heavy step over here.
19:20Watch your step.
19:21Good?
19:22Yeah, I'm good.
19:23And you're trying to kind of stay out of that longer vegetation.
19:26Oh, are you okay?
19:27Yeah, I was looking at you and not looking where I was stepping.
19:29Okay.
19:29Trying to be real light-footed.
19:30Be very careful putting your foot down.
19:32Well, it wasn't like I do step pretty light-footed.
19:35I just stepped on a big, sharp rock.
19:36So, we just try to keep, like, a continuous pace, but stay a little light-footed, especially
19:42being on these rocks.
19:43Might I remind you?
19:44I do lead, like, trips through things like this.
19:49I know, I'm just saying.
19:50Pretty comfortable walking through this kind of terrain.
19:52Well, you're the one that complained about your feet, not me.
19:54So, I'm just looking out for you.
19:56Tyler is talking about managing our risks and our energy.
20:00And I was like, okay, that's cool.
20:01I'm glad you feel really comfortable walking.
20:04But I just chose to give him some grace and not be snippy.
20:08For now, I'm going to just move on.
20:10And we need to turn left.
20:12Looks like this is the best spot.
20:13Yep.
20:14This could be the cut-up that we need to get to that new spot.
20:19Okay, so, light-footed and alert.
20:24Bunch of ants on the ground up here.
20:27They don't look like they're our friends.
20:28I'm trying to just step over.
20:29I think I might go this way.
20:31What?
20:31The trail goes this way.
20:32I think this way looks better.
20:33Well, we shouldn't stay far apart, so.
20:36We're pretty close together.
20:37It's okay.
20:38I'm worried about Allie.
20:39I don't know.
20:40She's carrying her weight, I guess.
20:42But I'm not sure I want to stay here any longer.
20:45Especially with her complaining about everything.
20:47I don't know.
20:48This looks a bit clearer over here.
20:50I mean, you can think that.
20:51And then you've got to cross mud hole up there.
20:53No.
20:54Just drive this way.
20:55Okay.
20:55I'm just following later.
21:02Well, I found our water source.
21:05Yeah, it looks full of interesting things.
21:08Move away that top layer and just pull a 15-minute roll,
21:11and this water will be okay.
21:17We're getting close to where we should put a camp.
21:20Yeah.
21:20There's an acacia right here.
21:22Yeah.
21:23That's great.
21:24Yeah, you want to dip in here?
21:25Yeah.
21:26We could use, like, you know, this space in here.
21:29Um, yeah, I would not do this.
21:32I would not put it anywhere near the middle of where a game would walk.
21:37We could go right there and under the acacia thorns.
21:40I'm talking not building on a game trail.
21:44So I'm very aware that I am in a hostile environment.
21:49There are prints everywhere here.
21:51Everywhere.
21:52You can't take a step and not see a track.
21:55Let's take a look around this outside, maybe right here.
22:00We cleared the inside of this.
22:01But look, there's elephant prints literally right here.
22:04This is not off the trail.
22:05Okay, well, we're in Africa and there's elephants everywhere.
22:07Hey, buddy, you were saying that we needed to get off the game trail.
22:10That's off the game trail.
22:12I'm talking not building on a game trail where they walk.
22:14Right, for sure.
22:15Their tracks are here.
22:17Not there.
22:17They're not walking there.
22:18We can create a ring around here.
22:20Once we have a fire going, it's going to help us a lot.
22:23I just feel like we need better sight line.
22:25What is wrong with this?
22:26You are the one who's like, we can't be by a game trail.
22:28We can't be by a game trail.
22:29Well, there's two game trails right here.
22:32We're in the middle of them.
22:33Okay, and there's a game trail here.
22:34And there's a game trail here and here and up here.
22:37I mean, they're everywhere.
22:39You're not avoiding the game trail.
22:40No, I...
22:40Okay, I'm just...
22:42I'll let you make this call.
22:44This is for your comfort.
22:46Dude, you don't like anything I've said.
22:48Look at my point of view.
22:49You have a bow.
22:50You have fresh water.
22:51I brought you here.
22:52You didn't get me here.
22:54I got myself here.
22:55Did I listen to you bitch and complain about the smokes and everything else last night in the shelter?
22:59Yes.
22:59You're so f***ing full of s***.
23:02Really?
23:02Yeah.
23:03You know what?
23:03I'm tapping.
23:04I'm done.
23:10You're so f***ing full of s***.
23:12Really?
23:13Yeah.
23:13You know what?
23:14I'm tapping.
23:15I'm done.
23:16We could use like, you know, this space in here.
23:18I'm done.
23:20I'm done.
23:21I think you will do great things out here.
23:23And I think you're very capable and strong.
23:25I got you here.
23:26And I know you're here.
23:27You didn't get me here.
23:28I got myself here.
23:29I walked myself here.
23:31Do you want the f***ing bow or no?
23:32Dude, this sucks, man.
23:34Yeah.
23:35Like, let's be clear.
23:36I was hoping we would work together as a team.
23:38And I don't need you to tell me I've given you everything you need.
23:42There's water.
23:42There's shade.
23:43There's this.
23:43There's that.
23:44I can hold my own and I can pull my own.
23:46So, I was hoping that you just were making some assumptions about my skill level and abilities.
23:51Oh, yeah.
23:51And that in a few days, you would see like, oh, Allie knows her s***.
23:54You know what?
23:55And you would stop.
23:56That's okay.
23:56You know what?
23:57Take this.
23:58I'm done.
23:59Because I'm not arguing with you no more.
24:01I'm being genuine.
24:02Okay.
24:03That's, yeah.
24:03No.
24:04I think that I do have a lot of growing to do as a person.
24:09And I'm sorry I seem self-centered.
24:13But I'm done.
24:15I'm called a producer.
24:16So, I'm tapping out.
24:18What's going on?
24:20I don't know.
24:20I'm tapping out.
24:24You don't want to give it another day?
24:26No.
24:26I think that's it.
24:28100% sure.
24:29100%.
24:29All right.
24:30All right.
24:31Kick some ass.
24:32Good luck.
24:34I made my choice.
24:36This is it.
24:36I haven't struggled.
24:37I've had no problem with this.
24:39Physically capable.
24:41But I thought about it.
24:42She's made some slick comments all the time.
24:44So, I either said, you know what?
24:45With the smart comments that have came out of my mouth, I said, you're strong.
24:49You can do this.
24:50You're a survivor.
24:51You can build a shelter in the BOMO without nobody.
24:54Rather than continuing this challenge, I think I'm going to go home.
24:57Go hit some golf balls with my brother, drink some cold beer, sit down, relax.
25:04After just three days in the bush, Tyler exits the challenge.
25:08His PSR drops from 6.3 to 5.1.
25:18You know, it's more work for me, and it's scarier for me, but I can do it.
25:25It's okay.
25:26So, Tyler just tapped.
25:28Yeah, we kind of fought immediately, and I felt like I was just making suggestions.
25:32I didn't think I was being hypercritical of what he wanted.
25:37I think he took me kind of pushing back on him as, like, me fighting him.
25:42I hope I didn't.
25:44I can be bossy sometimes.
25:46I just had such a hard time communicating with him, and he refused to communicate with me,
25:51and that ended up in a big blow-up.
25:53So, this place is good enough.
25:56I might clear away just a little bit of brush, close that stuff in.
26:00I'm going to try to make this boma as small as I can, because the smaller it is, the less
26:04work I have to do.
26:05I think I'm going to go from this tree to that clump.
26:08It'll be like a triangle.
26:09I can get this closed in pretty well with acacia.
26:12I just have to keep working, and it's really just going to get this good enough to get me through
26:17the night.
26:18That worked fairly well.
26:23There.
26:24It is the next 18 days.
26:26It's going to be brutal.
26:31I need to keep that fire going all night.
26:34I have some wood right there.
26:43Elephants.
26:44Yeah.
26:45Really close.
26:46So, I'm hoping that my fire will be big enough, and they'll stay away.
26:50I'm not really expecting to get much sleep, because I'm kind of freaked out.
26:54To think about, there's all these big cats, and the only thing between me and them is, you know, some
26:59thorns.
27:23There are elements on both sides of me.
27:33It's a lot.
27:36Way too close for comfort.
27:38Just so scary to be stuck in this coma and have an elephant that close.
27:47Oh, my God.
27:57Well, me and my filthy face made it through the night.
28:01It was pretty noisy.
28:03I didn't get too much sleep.
28:04I just have to get just day by day on my own without Tyler.
28:08It is scary, and it would be nice if there was someone else.
28:12But if I wasn't scared, then there's no opportunity to be brave.
28:18I've been watching this pond, and I haven't seen any croc eyes and snouts coming up out of the water.
28:24That doesn't mean that they're not here.
28:26Basically, all night, I heard, like, flopping of fish.
28:30So my plan is to try my hand at some fishing and see if I can catch them.
28:41Oh, hey, there's a tree.
28:44I'm going to make an improvised fishing rig.
28:47There we go.
28:49I'm going to do cane pole fishing.
28:51So I caught a cane, and I got a bunch of strips of bark that I made a big, long
28:57fishing line.
28:58So I just need to make the right hook, and hopefully I'll get a fish.
29:06I have an acacia thorn right here that's shaped kind of like a hook.
29:10Plus, this wood is really hard, which is good for making a hook.
29:14And I have a worm and a praying mantis as bait.
29:18So maybe this will work.
29:25I'm really hoping that this works, because it's going to suck to not get any food.
29:31I don't know what I'm going to feel like in, like, 10 days.
29:34That's a little scary for me.
29:38Is it a duck?
29:40I think I can shoot that.
29:45Oh!
29:49He broke the hook.
29:51The hook that I was using, I think, is not strong enough for these fish.
29:56So I'll try to shoot a duck.
29:58Kind of a bummer.
30:01I think that duck wants to land.
30:04Here he goes.
30:05See if I can get that duck.
30:08I've got Tyler's bow, and he's got some bird heads for his arrows.
30:13If I'm really hungry, a duck for breakfast would be pretty awesome.
30:1730 yards or something?
30:18Man, that's a tough shot.
30:2830 yards or something?
30:30Man, that's a tough shot.
30:37Oh, man.
30:38It's so close.
30:41I'm really, really, really hungry.
30:43I wish I could have shot that stupid duck.
30:57Oh, there's a lion.
31:05I can't tell how close or how far a lion is from me based on the sound.
31:10The big cats, they like to hunt more at a full moon.
31:17Lots and lots of people have been eaten by prides of lions.
31:23But all I can do is keep my fire going.
31:40I hear lions.
31:47This morning, I woke up and heard a bunch of lions
31:52kind of in the woods in that direction.
31:55They're pretty loud, and it sounds like there's a lot of them.
31:58So that's scary.
32:00I would love to be able to hunt again,
32:03but I am worried about the lions.
32:06It's definitely a hard hunting scenario.
32:09I don't want to get eaten alive.
32:19I don't want to get eaten alive.
32:24Hyena?
32:25It's kind of close.
32:27Woo!
32:30Woo!
32:30Ah!
32:31Woo!
32:33Woo!
32:34Woo!
32:35Woo!
32:36Woo!
32:37Woo!
32:38Woo!
32:38Woo!
32:38Woo!
32:38Woo!
32:38Woo!
32:39Woo!
32:39Woo!
32:39Woo!
32:40Woo!
32:41Woo!
32:43This place does not make it easy.
32:52Having not eaten, it's making me feel a little dizzy.
32:55I am very, very, very hungry.
32:58I've lost tons of muscle.
32:59Having energy for extraction is crucial.
33:02I'd love to find some food.
33:04While this is exciting, there's a monkey finger
33:07literally right here.
33:14First monkey finger fruit.
33:15Oh, I'm so excited.
33:21Ugh.
33:21It's like, it's kind of herbal-y and tart.
33:26There's definitely sugar in here for sure.
33:27Any kind of food is a morale boost, so I'm hoping when I'm, like,
33:31feeling really low, I'll be able to eat some of this and feel a little better.
33:35It's nice to find some calories.
33:37It's nice to find some calories.
33:37You wouldn't have just, like, a handful of calories.
33:49I love you.
33:50I love you.
34:04Okay.
34:22I'm going to try to last all night until I just saw a clown, but I feel like I have
34:32enough
34:33firewood. It's just too much. I just want to see.
34:55Oh, it's getting so less than me.
35:03You know, one of my close friends asked me, he was like, you're always taking all these wild opportunities.
35:09Like, what drives you? Death. Death is what drives me. And like, you're not going to be a badass if
35:16you don't do badass stuff.
35:19My goal is to, you know, be the most badass of all my friends. But at the same token, I
35:25feel death at my heels all the time.
35:29We have no idea how much time we have left. And so when I have an opportunity to do something
35:35incredible, I take it.
35:43Oh, I just got the stung of my something.
35:49My thumbs.
35:52I'm so mad.
35:55I just thought I could do this, right?
36:00I'm so mad.
36:03I'm so mad.
36:04I'm so mad.
36:06I'm so mad.
36:13Day 21 and I got stuck by a scorpion.
36:17But I guess I didn't get a full venom load because my thumb feels, it just feels like I burnt
36:22the crap out of it.
36:23But it feels way better than it did a few hours ago.
36:26So I had a pretty rough night, but I made it through.
36:30This is the final little challenge.
36:32And once I'm done, then I can say I actually did it.
36:35So it's just the last little push, the last little bit.
36:38I am right here.
36:40And I'm headed to here.
36:42So it looks like I need to ultimately go that way.
36:46After 21 brutal days in the Luangua Valley, Allie makes her final trek through the deadly Zambian bush.
36:52Her extraction point lies three miles south, atop a ridge overlooking the valley.
36:58She must follow an elephant game trail through the mud-soaked terrain, while keeping an eye out for the numerous
37:03herds that roam the area.
37:05Equipped with 200 million scent receptors and acute hearing, they're capable of detecting humans from over a mile away and
37:12can charge without warning.
37:22Walking through this field with all these elephant footprints is absolutely exhausting.
37:26It's really hard.
37:27I can never tell which one I'm going to completely fall into.
37:32It's just hard to walk right there.
37:36This is hard just because of the mud.
37:38It's not even uphill.
37:46There's elephants over there, and there's buffalo over there.
37:55So I'm going to try to go kind of around the buffalo, because that's safer than going towards the elephant,
38:01because they'll just charge you.
38:04I'm telling myself like I shouldn't be scared.
38:08I'm usually pretty good at managing my fear.
38:14But that is a big, dangerous animal, keeping an eye on that elephant, because I don't want to get too
38:19close getting through this.
38:26The buffalo ran off, so it's a clear shot across this field.
38:56I can't believe how many thorns there are, no matter what kind of ecosystem I'm in.
39:01There's just thorns everywhere.
39:06I have a thorn in my toe.
39:08It's killing me.
39:10But it's been 21 days.
39:12I've been through so much.
39:14There's nothing that the hike can throw at me that I'm not going to tackle.
39:18One foot in front of the other.
39:20Except when I step on a thorn.
39:22And then it's hot for a second.
39:25Getting through this.
39:32Getting close.
39:35Can't see the top, but that's got to be my hill.
39:37We're definitely climbing.
39:38As much as I would love to charge up that hill.
39:41I can't go faster.
39:47That's so epic.
39:49Whew.
39:55Oh, there's the...
39:57Oh.
39:59That's definitely a truck for me.
40:03Woo-hoo!
40:05Woo!
40:06I did it.
40:08We're done.
40:09Oh, man.
40:10All done.
40:11I'm so happy.
40:12Elated.
40:13Proud of myself and thrilled and all the things.
40:19Woo!
40:21I did it.
40:22I'm done.
40:25I did that like almost all by myself, almost the whole time.
40:31Sometimes the attitude that helps you get through the challenge is being able to control that mental game to accomplish
40:38what you need is, I think, is the most critical.
40:40Having my partner tap early was one of the best things that could have happened to me for this challenge.
40:45My comfort with being alone definitely grew.
40:49Amazing to be on the other side of the hardest thing I've ever done.
40:54And I've done it.
40:55So, when I didn't tap, I made it through everything.
41:00It's just really incredible.
41:02I tried to think of it as an opportunity to be brave.
41:05Being brave means being scared and doing it anyway.
41:09Allie completes the challenge, shedding 10 pounds, while her primitive survival rating jumps from 6.7 to 7.2.
41:18This is epic.
41:20You know, the way you approach things and your mentality makes, can really make or break you.
41:26Woo-hoo! I did it!
41:28Woo-hoo!
41:29Woo-hoo!
41:29Woo-hoo!
41:30Woo-hoo!
41:30Woo-hoo!
41:30Woo-hoo!
