00:00Not to give you more to stress over, but we are getting into the stuff that
00:02doctors wish you would take more seriously. Hi, I'm Carly Stern. I'm not a
00:06doctor, but I know one. Let's go ask an expert.
00:14What do you wish your patients paid more attention to when it comes to their health?
00:17So I do wish my patients would take their blood pressure more seriously.
00:21Blood pressure is one of your vital signs and high blood pressure is known as the
00:25silent killer because we don't know when our blood pressure is high. High blood pressure
00:30can be associated with heart disease, heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney disease,
00:35vascular disease, lots of problems if it goes untreated. It's very easy to take your blood
00:41pressure. Everybody has a scale at home and weighs themselves, and they basically don't need a scale
00:46to weigh themselves. You can look at yourself and kind of know what you weigh, but you can't look
00:50at yourself and know what your blood pressure is. So I believe every adult should have a blood
00:54pressure machine at home and check their blood pressure regularly.
00:58Okay, what else do you wish we cared more about?
01:00We also need to pay more attention to routine screening, and screening for different people
01:06at different ages is very appropriate. For example, start having routine pap smears at age 21,
01:14mammogram at age 40, colonoscopy at age 45. Screening saves lives, and everyone should do their
01:21routine health screening. If you have more questions, go to NYU Langone Health Online to find an expert.
01:26Come take care!
