00:00So the perfect product to help you keep your game sharp this winter is a putting mat. Now
00:05there is plenty of variety out there but I have chosen the best eight to help you narrow down
00:10your search to find out which one is best for you. If you like any of the products that you
00:14see in
00:15this video I've put some handy links in the description box below so you can check out
00:19these products in your local area at the best price for you. Right let's get started.
00:28So before we talk about any of the individual products in this video let's talk about why you
00:32should consider purchasing a putting mat. Well to start with a lot of these will fit anywhere in
00:37your home a lot of them are thin enough that they will fit in hallways in your lounge in your
00:41conservatory you get the picture. Secondly you don't need power to be able to get better at putting
00:47you don't need the speed and strength in order to hit a ball like you do off a tee so
00:52literally
00:52anyone can improve their putting with the help of a putting mat. And lastly putting literally
00:58makes up about 50% of the shots you take on the golf course. The majority of the mats span
01:04over
01:04eight foot and the reason behind that is that eight foot is the 50% make percentage mark on the
01:10PGA Tour.
01:11So if you can improve your putting and become bulletproof from that distance in you're likely
01:15to see your scores drastically improve on the golf course. So one of the first things you need to think
01:21about is how much space you have on hand. These mats range often from 6 to 15 foot so depending
01:28on where
01:28you're thinking of putting that putting mat you need to make sure that you have the adequate space
01:32so the room doesn't feel too congested. Also about what type of putting mat that you're looking to
01:37purchase. Some do look more premium than others so if you do have maybe a slightly more posh room you
01:42might want to look at the more premium option. The second thing to think about is the features. Do you
01:48want
01:48this mat to be slightly more realistic or do you really want to just improve your putting?
01:52Some are more realistic than others but there's a lot of features on offer such as being able to
01:58practice breaking parts, having different distance markers as well as the premium quality of that
02:03putting mat and how realistic it actually is. The next thing you're going to want to think about is
02:07price. These mats range from just north of $50 to $500 plus so you're going to really want to think
02:14about how much use you're going to get out of your putting mat and what features it contains.
02:19The last thing you want to think about is storage and where you're going to put your putting mat when
02:23it's not in use. A lot of the smaller mats do roll up to a very manageable size and come
02:28with a
02:28drawstring bag making them very easy to put away but some of the larger more premium mats are best to
02:33be left out so you need to think about where you're going to actually place your putting mat when you
02:37do buy one. When shopping around make sure you have a budget in mind and pick a mat that meets
02:43your needs and
02:44has the features you want within your budget. To help you narrow down your needs I have split these
02:53eight putting mats into five different categories. Now the first of those is the most realistic.
02:58The first mat I want to touch upon is the Prime Putt putting mat. Now the turf itself is a
03:03synthetic
03:04nylon turf that most closely resembles what it's like to put on a real green. The fact that there are
03:09no
03:09markers on this mat as well makes it really feel like you are out on a putting green and for
03:14me
03:14that really helps me practice my putting. It doesn't feel too false or fake. The holes themselves
03:21will lip the ball out if hit too hard or too close to the edges which I think is a
03:25really nice feature
03:26and this putting mat is endorsed by the number one putter on the PGA Tour, Taylor Montgomery. So that
03:33says something about the quality. Now with the quality does come a fairly heavy price tag. These mats
03:39range from $300 to $550 plus depending on what size you get. So if you are after a realistic experience
03:47this is a good mat. Now if I was pushed to pick a most realistic putting mat it would be
03:53the Putt
03:54Out Airbrake putting mat. Now the reason I have picked this mat is again the fact it has no markers
03:59so it does resemble a real green but also the fact that you can practice breaking putts. Putt Out claim
04:06that
04:0680% or more of the putts that we face on the golf course do have break so they have
04:10made a mat that
04:11allows you to practice just that. There are eight pumps that circulate the putting mat itself. They
04:17inflate airbags underneath which then alters the slope of the putting green. The slopes themselves
04:22range from 3% from front to back and 7.5% from left to right or vice versa. The
04:28speed of this
04:29putting mat can be altered by creating uphill or downhill putts and the platform can be changed
04:35in order to level out your feet with the mat itself. There is also a real life lip out experience
04:41by this cleverly designed cup. So if you're looking for the most realistic putting mat experience
04:46these are the two mats that I would recommend. Right before we move on if you're enjoying the video
04:52don't forget to hit the like button and subscribe to Golf Monthly's YouTube channel. A big thank you to
04:56Burr Hill Golf Club today for hosting us. Right let's get back to it.
05:03Now the next category is best budget putting mats. If you're looking to spend as little as possible
05:08but improve your putting the first one I would look at is the Putt Out putting mat. This mat itself
05:16is a really good entry level putting mat and is available in three colors so you can add a little
05:21customization if you like. There are alignment lines throughout the mat which really help you square
05:27up the putter face as well as your foot alignment and there are foot distance markers across the mat.
05:33The mat itself is just under eight foot long so it's not one of the longer putting mats.
05:37It does have a durable heavier base which does help keep this mat in place when on carpet. Now while
05:44the
05:45putt out putting mat doesn't feature a direct cup a really good idea would be to purchase the putt out
05:50pressure putt trainer. This is a really nifty little device that would just slot on top of the cup that
05:56you see on this putting mat and allows you to practice your putting under pressure. It goes up the
06:01ramp and the idea is that you would try and land the ball in the little hole until it stays
06:06there. It's a
06:06really tough little challenge but a great way to improve your practice on this putting mat.
06:11Now the next mat I'm going to talk about and the best budget option is the PGA Tour putting mat.
06:17This mat does offer plenty of alignment and distance markers. There's a really nice t-zone
06:21at the six foot mark which I really think helps square up the putter. In terms of distance control
06:28I really like this mat because there is a lag zone which helps you work on your pace putting throughout
06:32but
06:32overall it's fairly basic. It does claim that it runs 10 on the stint but I think it runs slightly
06:38lower
06:38than that due to the thickness of the mat itself but despite it being fairly thick the mat doesn't
06:45always lay out quite as flat as some of the others so it will need some pressing down.
06:49So those are the two options if I was looking for an affordable putting mat.
06:57Now the next category is which putting mats are most fun to use. So the first mat that I
07:03want to talk about is the Eyeline Golf Roll the Rock putting mat. Now this mat features
07:09tall grain velvet surface which is said to mimic real greens although it does run scarily fast
07:15if brushed towards the hole. Now a really fun feature about this putting mat is that you can
07:20actually brush the mat back the other way which will slow the ball down and make it a much more
07:26realistic experience. This does leave a track from where the ball rolls though and it can be quite
07:31annoying because then your next putt will get caught in that track so you do have to brush it back
07:35every
07:36time. The pace of this green as well also makes it fairly challenging to hole putts and as you can
07:41see
07:42that the ball doesn't always stay in the cup despite being what you think is quite a good pace.
07:47But the most fun I had while testing these putting mats was the Me and My Golf breaking balls putting
07:53mat.
07:54Now this mat itself comes with three breaking balls that come in different ways and the screws on the side
08:00indicate which way the ball is going to break. Now the different colour options indicate how much that
08:06ball is also going to break and there are lines on the mat that you can line up in order
08:10to calculate
08:11how far left or right of the hole you need to start this ball. There is a scoring zone at
08:16the end which
08:17you wouldn't want your ball to land or finish in after it rolls over the cup and the mat itself
08:23has foot
08:24distance markers the whole way throughout and despite it being an 11 foot putting mat the mat itself only
08:30really offers putts up to eight feet. So if I was to choose the most fun putting mat to use
08:36out of all
08:37of these that I've tested the Me and My Golf breaking balls putting mat is certainly the one I would
08:41go for.
08:46Now the next category I want to touch upon is what putting mats are best for their features. Now the
08:51first
08:52mat that I want to talk about is the perfect practice putting mat. So the reason I want to
08:56talk about this mat is firstly the graphics it really does make it look like you are practicing
09:01on a real green when looking down at your putt. There are distance markers the whole way throughout
09:05this mat itself and there are two hole sizes which really make you zone in when practicing. There is a
09:12ramp leading up to the holes as well so if you do leave a putt short the ball will always
09:15roll back
09:16but if you do make it or hit one slightly too hard there is a ball return feature down the
09:22side so
09:22the ball always ends up back at your feet allowing you to just use one ball while practicing which I
09:27think is a really neat feature. But if I was pushed to find the best putting mat with the best
09:33features
09:33it would be the putt out airbrake putting mat. Now the reason behind that is obviously the fact that you
09:39can adjust this mat in order to practice different putts whether that be uphill or downhill left to right
09:44or right to left and it even has the ability to help you practice double breaking putts. There is
09:50a ball return feature also actually built into the cup which fires the ball back at you. There is also
09:56a rubber backboard that pulls up and slots back in place so if you were to hit putts slightly too
10:02hard
10:02or you miss the hole it will stop the ball rolling off the edge. And additionally there is a platform
10:07it's the only mat that does have a platform that enables you to level your feet with where the ball
10:12is actually
10:13placed. And so for that reason the putt out airbrake is the putting mat that wins for the best features.
10:23Now the last category is value for money. These two putting mats are certainly not the cheapest but in
10:29my opinion do offer you the most bang for your buck. Now the first one I want to touch upon
10:33is the
10:34perfect practice putting mat. Now we've talked about the features of this putting mat but I think it looks
10:39really premium. This dark wood looks amazing and wouldn't look out of place anywhere. Along with
10:43the practical features it has I think this offers really good value for money. But I think the putting
10:49mat that wins the best value for money is the me and my golf breaking balls putting mat. Again it
10:55has
10:55distance markers the whole way throughout and it's one of the few mats that actually allows you to
10:59practice breaking putts the same that you would face out on the golf course. But don't forget you can
11:04also actually just use normal balls and practice your putting with the ball that you're likely to
11:09play on the golf course as well. The real value of this putting mat is that it comes with a
11:13QR code
11:13giving you access to a series of video lessons with Piers and Andy helping you really get the most out
11:20of this putting mat and helping you improve your putting at a quicker rate. Hopefully this video has
11:25given you some really insightful information as to which putting mat meets your needs and budget.
11:30Don't forget if you liked any of the products in today's video they are going to be in the
11:33description box below. If I was pushed to pick my favourite it would have to be the putt out airbrake
11:39putting mat. I think it looks superb, is really realistic and allows you to practice breaking
11:43putts making your practice all the more fun. But that's all from me here at Burhill Golf Club. We'll see
11:49you next time.
