00:00What have I let myself in for here?
00:01For some reason, I've decided to build
00:03Bryson DeChambeau's full US Open winning golf bag
00:07and enter a professional event.
00:12I've fatted it into the bunker.
00:14What a lemon, tip.
00:17Oh, Joe.
00:18So here's the deal, I'm here at Saunton Golf Club,
00:20one of the UK's top 100 courses,
00:22and I've entered the Devon PGA Alliance
00:24to test these clubs out.
00:26But before we get on the course,
00:27which we will do in a minute,
00:28I just want to give you some context
00:29about why I'm doing this
00:30and how I've accumulated these clubs.
00:32So I've been watching an awful lot of Bryson DeChambeau
00:34over the past year or so,
00:36from winning the US Open, nearly winning the US PGA,
00:39shooting 58, and of course,
00:41on his incredible YouTube channel.
00:43I've been so impressed with his golf,
00:45and particularly his ball striking.
00:47I just, I've been more and more intrigued by his equipment
00:49and then it just hit me.
00:51I thought, right, why don't you just build his set?
00:53I'm a club maker, I can do that.
00:54Let's build his set.
00:56Let's go and play a professional event
00:57and let's see how they go.
01:01Every time.
01:03Every time.
01:04And somehow, I've managed to get hold of his actual backup set of irons.
01:09Just to give you the top line of what's in the bag here,
01:12I've got his crank driver and three wood with LA golf shafts.
01:15I've got his incredible set of Voda golf irons and wedges,
01:18and the sick arm lock putter.
01:20For those of you who want more information and details on all these specs,
01:23I'm probably going to stop halfway around the round
01:24and do a more detailed what's in the bag,
01:26but I can't put it off any longer.
01:28I'll have to hit a few warm-up shots,
01:30and then we've got to get on the first tee and play this professional event.
01:32I feel very exposed.
01:33Let's do it.
01:37Yeah, that's about what I was expecting.
02:07I'm going to do it.
02:14Any ideas, anyone?
02:16Yeah.
02:26A ripper!
02:28A little ripper!
03:02So hard to know what to hit, 1.54 out the rough, down and off the left, but normally to
03:07me
03:08it would be the hard wedge, or little nine.
03:12But I don't know.
03:23Oh, you little...
03:28That's a good boy.
03:58Right, well, little, not mid-round update, where are we? We're on the 7th now. Going remarkably, remarkably well. Got
04:05off to a serious hot start.
04:07Four birdies on the spin, including some ridiculous putts.
04:11I'm all over this Bryson putting thing. I'm just having to be quiet because I'm going past the green here.
04:17But yeah, sort of settled down a few pars.
04:20Found some tough holes, to be fair. There's a lot of wind out here, but yeah, going well.
04:24I'm finding, predictably finding the irons, extremely hard work, just so stiff, so heavy.
04:32So I'm having to really sort of manage that.
04:34But I'll tell you what, that left dash Pro V1, in this wind, is really, I'm finding that very easy
04:40to control.
04:41It's super low spin, so that's really good.
04:43And as you see, the putter's been behaving itself so far.
04:46So yeah, fingers crossed, long may it continue.
04:48In the meantime, check out the more detailed what's in the bag of what I'm actually using today.
04:54And we'll get back to some golf.
04:55So what's in the actual bag, full details.
04:57So starting with driver, we've got the Crank Formula Fire, five degrees.
05:01I got on the phone to Leslie from Crank, who really hooked me up here.
05:04She got me the driver and three-wood, fitted with the LA Golf Bryson Series shaft and his Jumbo Max
05:10grips.
05:11This one, I mean, you've seen probably half of the video so far, but I'm a bit concerned about the
05:15dispersion on this.
05:17This might worry me.
05:18Three-wood, it's got 13 degrees, but it's actually a 12-degree measured loft.
05:21Same Bryson Series LA Golf shaft and the same Jumbo Max grips.
05:27This is quite a powerful three-wood, so it could be a good backup if that driver does start to
05:31go awry.
05:32And then in the full what's in the bag of the irons, this is where it got really interesting.
05:36I went for a fitting with Avoda Golf and got fitted in some one-length irons.
05:41They're Origin Series irons, which are absolutely beautiful, by the way.
05:44However, once I'd been fitted and we got discussing what the video was going to look like,
05:48a couple of weeks later, I got a call from Avoda and they said,
05:51would you actually like to use his actual backup set of irons with the progressive face curvature,
05:57the grips, the full shamanca, these are the exact spec that Bryson uses.
06:01And within about two seconds, obviously, I said yes.
06:04Now, these things are incredible.
06:05For full details and specs on these, head over to my other video on Golf Monthly,
06:09where I do a full range session. I'm talking specs.
06:12I'm giving you all the details on how they feel.
06:14That's well worth a watch.
06:15Wedges are slightly different.
06:16Bryson generally has played the Pinglide 4.0, which I couldn't get a hold of,
06:20but probably even better.
06:22I got the original Avoda wedges that were designed for this set
06:25with the exact same grips, exact same shafts, the total same specs.
06:29I've got them in 60, 55, 45, 50 before you even get to the pitching wedge.
06:34That's an incredible wedge setup.
06:35We're going to have to work really hard to figure out those yardages.
06:38We already had the sick putter, the arm lock putter at Golf Monthly.
06:42So we just sort of dragged this one out of the cupboard ready to use.
06:45That's going to be an interesting endeavor.
06:46Managed to source the Titleist Pro V1 left dash golf ball that Bryson plays.
06:50So I think I'm fully kitted out.
06:52Let's get back to the golf.
07:13that's cool.
07:14Huh?
07:15That's correct.
07:16That's correct.
07:19That's correct.
07:24That's correct.
07:32I'll see you next time.
08:06we back right little update it's going remarkably well like it's taking me by surprise i'm having
08:12to almost adjust my expectations a little bit i'd have i probably snapped your hand off a 75
08:17before starting and now i've got that ridiculously hot spot hole in putts all over the place four
08:23under through four plateaued a bit made some really good saves from pretty bad positions and then just
08:29really snuck on there after a bad drive on the par five it's weird it's um the irons are so
08:35difficult
08:35in particular they're beautiful they feel great when you flush and they're so solid but they're so
08:40heavy and so stiff but it's almost good though because i can't miss the ball left i can't get it
08:47to go left i can't physically get the club base working through enough to miss it left so i've
08:51only got one side of the course to play with which is as difficult as they are it's really reassuring
08:56to know that i can't hit the ball one one way so that actually is arguably making things a little
09:00bit easier so i got away with them there hold a putt we're on 14 i think now so got
09:08knuckled down
09:08for a knock it down for a big finish
09:18so
09:24so
10:10I can't get it to go left. I can't physically get the club base working through enough to miss it
10:15left. I've only got one side of the course to play with.
10:26Come off like an absolute rocket. That's another thing, because you've got so little loft in your hand, what you'd
10:33normally bump with becomes two times stronger.
10:41Come on, man.
10:44That is as wasteful as it comes.
10:50Go, go, go, go.
10:54Not in there.
10:56All right, last on. When I started, if you'd have offered me 75, I'd have absolutely snapped your hand off.
11:02It's so weird playing with these just incredibly different clubs to what I'm used to.
11:08But then you get it going, and I've hold a lot of putts to do what I'm doing, and I've
11:13just got a little sense of I've wasted a couple here.
11:15That par five just then in particular, I've absolutely launched a drive about 350 down there. Should have hit nine
11:22iron.
11:23Couldn't convince myself because I'm so used to the nine iron in this. I had 180, and I just couldn't
11:28convince myself nine iron was the right club.
11:31But I've got to get out of the thought that nine iron's a normal nine iron. It's not. It's got
11:35ridiculously strong loft compared to mine.
11:38So I tried to dolly an eight, pulled it, didn't get up and down as you saw.
11:41So yeah, I stayed at four, and I've just hit what I thought was a good tee shot there. It's
11:46gone five foot right at the pin, taken a little hop right, and it's gone in a bunker.
11:51So now I'm scrambling to try and stay at four, and it's so weird with golf how emotions change where
11:59even if I don't get up and down and make a four or three under,
12:02I'd have absolutely laughed at you if you'd have said I could have done that last night and completely snapped
12:08your hand off.
12:08But then that's what golf does. It changes. Your expectations get up because things get going.
12:14But I've got to get my head on, get back in the game, and try and get this up and
12:17down.
12:19Oh yeah, that's a good one. See what I mean? You land it shorter.
12:23Yeah, it goes further.
12:24It goes further.
12:30It's good. It's good. It's good.
12:32Yes! Joe!
12:33You didn't get it.
12:35Some finish that, mate. Some finish. Well done.
12:38Right, so just to round it off, I'm going to tell you where I finished in a moment.
12:41But my reaction, four under, I am absolutely chuffed with that. The whole day was so difficult.
12:48It was like relearning the game from trying to find strike with clubs this heavy and this stiff.
12:54Trying to get the right yardages was just an absolute minefield.
12:58I couldn't switch off for a minute and when I did, I hit a bad shot and that's where I
13:01made my bogeys.
13:02It was just such a tough day. I found it so enjoyable using this stuff.
13:07It was just, yeah, like a voyage of discovery. Really enjoyed it.
13:11And I expect you all probably want to know where I finished.
13:13Well, it turns out that putt on the last for par there after that little bunkers eight was very important.
13:18There was a few people on three under par, so we've won. Four under par wins the tournament.
13:23I've just won a PGA tournament with Bryson DeChambeau's backup set of golf clubs.
13:28Couldn't be happier. See you next time.
13:30Right, Bryson, if you're watching, love the clubs. Give me a call. Let's have a game sometime.
13:35I'll use yours. You'll use mine. Let's get it on.
