00:00A Philippine Statistics Authority survey shows women in the country are having fewer children.
00:05The PSA's 2025 National Demographic and Health Survey shows the country's total fertility rate
00:11fell to a record low of 1.7 in 2025, down from 1.9 in 2022 and 2.7 in
00:182017.
00:19The PSA defines TFR as the average number of children a woman would have by the end of her
00:24childbearing years if she were to bear children at the current age-specific fertility rates.
00:30The age-specific fertility rates are calculated for the three years before the survey,
00:34based on detailed pregnancy histories provided by women.
00:37University of the Philippines Population Institute Director Elma Laguna says this
00:41reflects decades-long efforts to address overpopulation.
00:45The survey also shows 57.3% of married women said they want no more children,
00:50while only around 13.4% want to have another child within two years and 16.2% want another
00:56child beyond two years.
