00:06So the Jane Doe who was on the train tracks was actually a biomedical engineer working at Thor
00:12labs. That tech company that made the news for 3D printing human organs. They're talking security
00:19clearances. Marino says you think Matt Peterson might be involved. If he really did have something
00:23to do with this, then Gwen's death is on me. You know you can't tell your wife any of this,
00:28right?
00:28You mean my wife, the chief medical examiner in charge of the case? Aren't you supposed to do that
00:33in your bedroom? This is, uh, my niece Lucy. Lucy, this is Benton. Why is Abby Turnbull always nipping at
00:40our heels? It's the job of public servants to bring truth to the people. There is a serial murderer on
00:46the loose. I have till Friday to catch him before he kills again. We can trace the soap, narrow our
00:53scope of suspects. You still think it's Matt Peterson? Nothing yet that tells me otherwise.
00:57See what I sent you? You've got to be fucking kidding me. Peter. I'm sorry, I gotta go.
01:01I think I just made a big mistake.
01:06Marino, stop! How did you know Gwen Haney? I wanted to find out if it was ever even going
01:11to be possible. What? Fully functioning, compatible synthetic organs. When people die, that's it.
01:18They're gone. They're gone. They're fucking gone.
01:34They're fucking gone.
04:05Thank you, Dr. Scarpetta. Thank you for coming.
04:07Well, it's not like I had a choice, is it? So what do you need from me?
04:11Well, we need a medical examiner to do an out-of-the-box autopsy.
04:15Word has it you're the best.
04:17No need to flatter me. I'm here.
04:22So three months ago, Thor launched an experimental biomedical lab to 3D bioprint human organs in orbit.
04:29Apparently, conditions in space optimize growth.
04:33Microgravity, the tiniest of blood vessels, can stand on their own.
04:37So earlier today, ground control lost all contact with the orbiter, and some three hours after that, we detected an
04:43unknown object re-entering Earth's atmosphere and completely disintegrating.
04:47The orbiter. So, um, what happened to it?
04:51Well, that's, uh, what you're here to tell us.
04:58As far as we can tell, the orbiter started losing speed, causing it to free fall.
05:03Then the Earth's atmosphere did the rest.
05:05At nearly 17,000 miles per hour, the friction of the air would have caused it to start burning up
05:10almost immediately.
05:11The Thor orbiter had nine modules, but the lab was the only one fitted with extra solar radiation shielding.
05:17Three individuals lived on that orbiter, two commercial astronauts, an American and a Russian to run the station, and a
05:24biomedical engineer from Thor Labs to perform the experiments, Jared Wharton.
05:29Using meta-allergic x-ray, we've determined there are two bodies inside of the lab wreckage.
05:34In the entire history of our space program, we've never had a death in orbit.
05:39We must find out as quickly as possible what happened to these men, what caused their deaths,
05:44and for this reason, we've brought in renowned expert Dr. K. Scarpetta to be the first to examine whatever remains
05:50of them.
05:53Gwen Haney, also a biomedical engineer at Thor, was found murdered in Virginia this past week.
06:03We believe that Gwen was killed in her home.
06:06Her body was then moved and staged on Dangerfield Island.
06:09Haney came on the Bureau's radar last summer when intelligence was received that she was selling sensitive trade secrets to
06:18our foreign competitors, the Russians.
06:21Two days after Gwen Haney's death, Jared Wharton placed a brief call to her cell phone from the Thor orbiter.
06:35Hello from space, my dear.
06:37How are you?
06:38What does that mean?
06:40Well, we believe it means that Jared Wharton and Gwen Haney were partners shopping biotech to the Russians,
06:48and that her murder is somehow connected to the two dead men inside that orbiter.
06:57I want to speak to your supervisor.
06:59Why not the sales department?
07:01Because I already spoke to the guy in Borowash sales and accounting and the dumbass in PR twice.
07:08Actually, do you know what?
07:10No more transfers.
07:11You, sir, are going to be my hero.
07:14Because I'm trying to look for a serial killer,
07:16and there's 100,000 women in this city who are running out of time.
07:20Borowash is non-toxic, ma'am.
07:22What?
07:23It can't kill you.
07:25Okay, I'm going to need you to really listen.
07:28I'm Dr. Kay Scarpetta.
07:30I'm the chief medical examiner of Virginia, and I investigate deaths.
07:35Do you follow?
07:36So, like a coroner?
07:38Uh, no.
07:39No, no, nothing like a coroner.
07:41Look, I need a list immediately of every Borowash client in Alexandria.
07:47And if I don't get that list, you're going to see a court order on your desk with your name
07:52on it.
07:54Do you know my name?
07:56What?
07:57Oh, shit.
07:59Uh...
08:00Um, I do.
08:02I have it written down.
08:02Can I place you on a brief hold?
08:04No.
08:04No, no!
08:06No!
08:07No!
08:12These Abby Turnbull articles aren't helping much, just as far as people feeling terrified.
08:18Gun sales are through the roof.
08:21First thing you know, we're going to be in a city full of quaking cowards all armed to the teeth.
08:25There'll be a rash of accidents, and everybody's fucked.
08:30Publicity can inflate a killer's ego.
08:33It can lead to more bodies.
08:34So you're saying he strikes tonight?
08:36We're screwed.
08:38Borowash is used in 73 city and state buildings in Alexandria and D.C.
08:43Courthouses, county hospitals, DMV.
08:45I haven't even gotten started on the private businesses yet.
08:48So at least 10,000 employees across the city.
08:52At least.
08:52Jesus Christ.
08:53You want A to H, I to O, or P to Z.
08:58And what, interview 10,000 people?
09:00Yeah, well, obviously I have to narrow it down.
09:02I just don't know how to yet, but we will.
09:04You realize it's already 6 p.m., right?
09:07I mean, we ain't going to get no one on the phone until Monday.
09:09Well, what do we do?
09:10It is Friday night.
09:12Women are afraid to go home.
09:13You should get home.
09:14To your niece.
09:15Lock your doors and the windows.
09:17Well, look, I ain't just going to sit around.
09:19I'm a cop.
09:20It's the night he strikes.
09:22I'll patrol the fucking streets.
09:23Look, let's hope that all this attention does the opposite of what we think.
09:28Encourages him to lay low.
09:29Can we at least agree to page each other, the first son of trouble?
09:33Okay?
09:36Doc, you need a ride?
09:38I'm heading that way myself.
09:39Well, I could follow you if you feel more comfortable.
09:43I can get myself home.
10:05Hey.
10:09Who are you typing?
10:12Lucy?
10:13Lucy?
10:15No?
10:15Nothing?
10:27Luce?
10:28We're going to go see a movie.
10:29Okay?
10:33He's always been a little rough around the edges, Pete.
10:36I mean, we all know he's not really domesticated.
10:38But, man, I have never seen him lose his cool like that.
10:42Have you?
10:45Like, was he going to kill that guy if we hadn't shown up?
10:55I am sure he didn't mean any of the things he said.
11:01Just lost his cool, you know?
11:03I actually think he did mean it.
11:05And I think it's something he's wanted to say to me for a while.
11:14You know, I, um, I saw what was on your screen, well, who was on your screen when I came
11:22over to your place the other day.
11:26She's beautiful, Lucy.
11:28And I just, I want to say, it's okay.
11:34You know, everybody deals with grief their own way.
11:38And it's honestly nobody's business, really, but your own.
11:48Hey, um, I have a bottle of something not too terrible on the shelf over there.
11:54If you want to maybe have a drink, hang out.
12:00You know, I think I should go home.
12:02And, uh, check on Pete.
12:04Yeah.
12:05Yeah.
12:06No, yeah, of course.
12:08That's, that's a good idea.
12:09You should do that.
12:10Count me in on the next one, though.
12:13Yeah.
12:15Hmm.
12:22He just got up.
12:23He left.
12:24He was so embarrassed.
12:26He didn't even touch his fish.
12:27But I guess it was the, um, eyeballs.
12:32Probably a no-go.
12:33But, you know, hindsight is, uh, 20-20.
12:37What are you looking for?
12:39I'm looking for a cigarette.
12:40I would like a cigarette because I'm a little drunk and I like to smoke.
12:43Okay.
12:44Well, uh, you're never going to find those in Lucy's house.
12:46Oh, really?
12:49What's this then, hmm?
12:51That's a joint.
12:52Oh, even better.
12:54Even better.
12:55Um, do we think that this is wise?
12:59Mm.
13:00It is not just wise.
13:02It is necessary.
13:05Ah.
13:07Janet.
13:09Thank you, thank you, thank you for telling me.
13:11Of course he's in love with her.
13:13Why else would he do these things?
13:15No, no.
13:17I never should have said that.
13:19I, I didn't mean it like it was true.
13:22Like a real feeling.
13:23More like one of those unrequited doohickeys that lingers a little longer than you.
13:28No.
13:29No.
13:30Because he didn't even stay for the baked Alaska and he loves meringue.
13:35Okay, and even if it were true, and I'm not saying that it was,
13:39it's so obvious who Marino loves now and who he wants to be with.
13:45Me.
13:46Yes, of course you.
13:50Yeah, I thought that at one point.
13:52At the beginning.
13:53Now I'm a fucking consolation prize.
14:00The fuck am I looking at?
14:01Oh, hi baby.
14:03What are you doing here, mother?
14:04What are you smoking?
14:05Oh, I don't actually know.
14:08I found it in your drawer.
14:10Does anybody want to tell me what's going on here?
14:12We were just talking.
14:15You.
14:16Oh, oh, no.
14:18You're the only one who's allowed to talk to her.
14:19Yes, yes, especially when you treat me like a lunatic for doing it in the first place.
14:23No, I love Janet.
14:25Mm.
14:26I love her.
14:28Janet talks to me like I'm a person.
14:31Like a person she wants to talk to and not just like some encumbrance that has to be tolerated until
14:41the end of time.
14:42Oh, wow, for God's sake.
14:44And I was lonely.
14:45Where's my husband?
14:48Where's my fucking husband?
14:50Where's Peter?
14:59Got anything that's not dead?
15:03Uh, I'd say the flowers here generally fit the circumstances.
15:07Wife or girlfriend.
15:11Not that it's any of your business.
15:13Either way, those daisies will do the trick.
15:16Sadder or better, if you're playing that angle.
15:23If you really want to win her over, though, scratch hers, my friend.
15:27More than anything, chick stick hope.
15:28One thing my wife definitely does not need is more money.
15:32You're married to a woman who doesn't need more money?
15:35You're one lucky SOB.
15:44Give me a pack of premiums, too.
15:47Come on, I'm in a fucking things up kind of mood.
15:50Yeah, live it up.
15:52No telling where this pack will lead.
15:56I love you.
16:13Hey, Doc.
16:14So, good news, bad news on the Peterson front.
16:18You were right.
16:20He didn't do it.
16:24So, the past is the past.
16:26We can put it behind us.
16:29The bad news part is I, uh...
16:35Shit.
16:35Delete.
16:38I delete message.
16:40Delete.
16:41Delete message.
16:42Delete message.
16:44Delete message, you piece of shit.
16:47Shit.
16:48Shit.
16:49Shit.
16:50Shit.
16:51Shit.
16:57All right, Pete.
16:59Pull yourself together.
17:02Jackass is right.
17:04You are lucky SOB.
17:11Look, uh...
17:12I know you're upset,
17:13but I only knew about Gwen for a couple of days.
17:17For a couple of days?
17:18Oh, great.
17:19Okay.
17:20Well, that makes me feel better.
17:21Just a brief portrayal, huh?
17:23I know.
17:24You're angry.
17:25No, I'm not angry.
17:28I'm in a fucking rage.
17:30Well, when you say it like that,
17:31it sounds far more chilling than if you just screamed it at me.
17:34Yeah, well...
17:36I'm a professional.
17:45I mean...
17:47I was questioning everything, my whole career.
17:50Everything, my first case, all of this.
17:52And all that worry and fear you could have taken away in an instant.
17:55Okay.
17:55You could have stopped all of that suffering,
17:57but you didn't.
17:57And you knew.
17:58You knew.
17:59Who does that?
18:00Who does that?
18:01That camera up there is streaming directly somewhere.
18:04More than anything in the world.
18:04People are paying very close attention,
18:06probably in the White House.
18:07Okay.
18:08Well, great.
18:09I'm sure they've seen two people fight before.
18:29All yours.
18:33After you.
18:42Your show now, Dr. Scarpetto.
19:07What are we looking at?
19:10Organs.
19:11Lots of...
19:14Biosynthetic organs.
19:25This is what you want to see?
19:27Yes.
19:30What about Dr. Doolittle?
19:32No.
19:33I want to see Scully.
19:35Scully?
19:36You know, Mulder's partner.
19:39She's a doctor like you,
19:40and an FBI agent like I want to be.
19:42Well, since when?
19:43I thought your whole life was computers.
19:45Maybe.
19:45I want to catch bad guys like you,
19:47but with less dead bodies.
19:51Um, two for...
19:52for X-Files, please?
19:54Yep.
19:56You're hissing at me?
19:57Yeah.
19:58What do you want, pizza?
19:58Are you hungry?
19:59Yes.
19:59Okay, will you stop hissing at me?
20:01No.
20:01Okay.
20:03Hey, Luis, you know, um...
20:05You know that guy that you met the other night?
20:08Benton?
20:09Yes, Benton.
20:10He was nice.
20:11You worked together?
20:12Actually, he worked for the FBI.
20:14Wow.
20:15Um, I just want you to know that...
20:19whatever you saw...
20:21that won't happen again.
20:23I don't care, okay?
20:24My mom has guys stay over all the time.
20:26He didn't stay over, Lucy.
20:29And he won't be in the future.
20:31We can do whatever we want.
20:32Right, Aunt Kay?
20:33Mm-hmm.
20:34And right now,
20:35I think I would really like some ice cream.
20:38Abby.
20:39Hi.
20:40I guess we had the same idea.
20:42Better out than home, right?
20:44I didn't know you had a daughter.
20:47Uh, no.
20:48I-I don't.
20:48Uh, Lucy, this is...
20:49She's my niece.
20:50She's my sister's daughter.
20:51And she's just staying with me.
20:52While my sister is...
20:55Say no more.
20:56I've got one of those.
20:57She's staying with me right now.
21:00So, um...
21:00Abby.
21:01Don't.
21:02What?
21:02Do that.
21:03You know I can't talk to you.
21:05Like, these optics are really bad.
21:07And I know that my office has been gagged.
21:09Your office is gagged?
21:11Oh, shit.
21:13Look.
21:14Just tell me this.
21:16Do you really think the hubby did it?
21:18Abby!
21:19I can't talk to you!
21:20Fine.
21:21Fine.
21:22You guys be safe.
21:27What hubby did what?
21:30You once,
21:34twice,
21:36three times,
21:39a lady,
21:42and I love you.
21:51I love you.
21:59I love you.
22:01I love you.
22:05When we are together, the moments I cherish.
22:19I love you.
22:21I love you.
22:24I love you.
22:29I love you, too.
22:33I love you.
22:35I love you.
22:36I love you, too.
22:43And now I'm coming to the dark.
22:57Hey, hey, do you guys have any sugar here?
23:00Do you have anything with sugar?
23:02Do you have chocolate?
23:02You ate it.
23:03What?
23:04Lucy doesn't like to keep too much junk in the house.
23:06I know.
23:07She won't keep my lucky charms.
23:08Certainly not lucky charms.
23:10Because she stress eats.
23:11She doesn't need to know that.
23:13I've known that for a long time.
23:15Why are you in my house getting stoned, Mother?
23:19I just thought maybe it would, you know, balance out the fact I'm a little drunk.
23:27We've had a chin waggle two of late.
23:29And usually she's fine.
23:31You're chin wagging with my mother?
23:33Yes, Luce.
23:33We've been hanging out a little.
23:35Everyone else is suddenly gone all the time.
23:38And it's been quite nice, actually.
23:41Hmm.
23:42It's a nice thing for you to say.
23:45Really nice.
23:47Back at you, J-Dog.
23:49Luce.
23:49Luce.
23:50Usually she's fine.
23:51I mean, we talked about her books and...
23:55And then I maybe accidentally gave her the impression that, um...
24:00Yeah, it doesn't matter.
24:01No.
24:02No.
24:03What?
24:04What?
24:06Well, that Pete might kind of, sort of, have always been in love with your Aunt Kay.
24:13What?
24:14Which I've explained was totally false, by the way.
24:18But now I can't seem to unroll that thread.
24:21So all of this is about Moreno?
24:23Yeah.
24:25Yeah.
24:25Okay.
24:25Okay.
24:27Mother?
24:27Wake up.
24:29Hey.
24:30Look in my eyes.
24:32And answer me.
24:34Do you love Moreno?
24:38Do you?
24:41All my marriages have meant something to me.
24:47Oh, my God.
24:48You do.
24:50I do.
24:53You love Moreno like...
24:57Love, love.
25:04Are you guys having a slumber party in here or something?
25:06Hi.
25:07Hi.
25:08Wait.
25:09Are those for me?
25:10I mean, yeah.
25:11But only if they're gonna make you happy.
25:12Which, I mean, they're ugly as shit.
25:14No.
25:15The best I could do at one o'clock in the morning.
25:17They're so beautiful.
25:17Oh, they're not...
25:18Okay.
25:18The most beautiful flowers I've ever seen in my life.
25:21Is that weed I'm smelling?
25:23Yes.
25:24Are you gonna arrest me?
25:25No, no.
25:25I'm not gonna arrest you.
25:26But how about we, uh...
25:27How about we go see if there's any of the Doc's delivery?
25:29Delicious lasagna in the fridge.
25:31Oh, fuck her.
25:31Fuck her.
25:32No, no, no.
25:33Come on.
25:33All right.
25:34Where were you?
25:35Where were you?
25:36But it was so late.
25:37I know.
25:37No, but where were you?
25:46Walk us through what you're seeing.
25:49Intensive damage to the interior of the module.
25:53The walls of the cabin seem to be covered with what appears to be...
25:57Blood.
25:58It's blood.
25:58It's fine in some parts as aerosol.
26:02When a liquid gets released into microgravity, it's suspended like a small ball.
26:08These weightless balls would then float around in the cabin until they were sucked into the
26:13ventilation system, where they would then be hosed out, causing them to spray everywhere.
26:17Any sign of the third crewmate?
26:20Nope.
26:21Just fake organs.
26:22Everywhere.
26:23Biosynthetic.
26:24Not fake.
26:25Non-human.
26:26Partially human.
26:28Thermometer.
26:28Yeah.
26:31Yeah.
26:31You'd think if you wanted to make something non-human human, it would require more than science.
26:39Magic.
26:40It would require magic.
26:41Well, I was gonna say God, but magic will do.
26:45I got a reading.
26:49Well, based on the temperature comparisons and rigor, I would say they have been dead 10 to 12 hours.
26:57So before they crashed, they were killed in orbit.
27:01That's right.
27:02Yeah.
27:03The question is how.
27:07Sorry.
27:08Sorry.
27:12So that woman, Abby, thinks the man married to the doctor lady was the one that killed her?
27:20Um, so, Abby's a reporter, and it's her job to write about crimes that happen and make
27:27them exciting, and she was just trying to get information from me.
27:32Are you friends?
27:33Do you like her?
27:34I...
27:35Actually...
27:37I don't really know her.
27:42I wanna get some popcorn.
27:44Uh, we just sat down, and you had pizza and ice cream for dinner.
27:47Well, what's a movie without popcorn?
27:50Okay.
27:51Fine.
27:52I have money, and I can walk 10 feet to a popcorn line by myself.
27:55Okay, Lucy.
27:57Shh.
27:59It hasn't even started.
28:06Hi.
28:07You got a beer?
28:08I think she's here.
28:11I think she's here.
28:15Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
28:18You getting M&M's?
28:19Can you get M&M's?
28:24It's for my mom.
28:29It's a good meal.
28:32It's a good meal.
28:42It's great.
28:45It's a good meal.
28:48Where we bring the stars to you.
28:56No popcorn. What happened?
28:58Nothing.
29:00Lucy, the line was too long.
29:08Why do you keep checking that?
29:11Sorry.
29:25No drink with wife killers.
29:42Shit.
29:52You hit the ground a little hard there.
29:56Nice hat.
30:00You following me?
30:01Of course I'm following you.
30:03You're suspect numero uno.
30:05And tonight is, you know, Friday night.
30:09I can't even drink over my grief in peace.
30:12How do I know this isn't readying with liquid courage
30:15before you go out and kill someone?
30:16Stop, would you?
30:19Can you just stop already?
30:21Stop harassing me.
30:23Go find the son of a bitch.
30:25You killed my wife.
30:33I'm telling you right now.
30:36I need more cream cheese than that.
30:38You're gonna need more.
30:38More than you ever think you need.
30:41Okay.
30:42This is like the most bachelor omelet in the history of omelets.
30:48You know, you should call it that.
30:49Well, it's already got a name.
30:51The southern style New Jersey.
30:53A little ode to my old life and my new life.
30:58So what life was it an ode to out there on the farm today
31:01when you almost beat that Yama Mac guy to death?
31:03You heard from the doc.
31:06Both her and Benton's cars are gone.
31:08Find that a little bit unusual?
31:10Well, here's an idea.
31:11Why don't we worry a little less about them?
31:14Maybe a little more about you?
31:15Me?
31:16Hmm.
31:18About me, I'm fine.
31:20Really?
31:21There's a lot of subtext slash anger in those punches you threw today
31:25for a guy who is fine.
31:26Listen to me, okay?
31:27I'm sorry as hell that you had to be there for that.
31:30I am, okay?
31:32People think that I'm dumb.
31:33It's a little bit my sore spot.
31:35And that fucking guy just jabs at it with a red-hot poker
31:38every time I ever fucking see him.
31:40Pete, there's not anybody who knows you who thinks you're stupid.
31:43My mother thought that.
31:45No, she didn't.
31:46She did.
31:46And that's enough about it.
31:51The point is, don't take nothing I said out there too seriously.
31:54Okay?
31:55Look, you are allowed to say whatever you want.
31:59And believe it, too.
32:02You know, people say things sometimes when they're angry
32:06that they don't really mean, you know?
32:08Or have even ever thought about, you know,
32:11regarding other people's...
32:14other people's loved ones.
32:21It's okay, Pete.
32:23To say what you feel about Janet.
32:29I just feel sad that she's gone.
32:38You know what? I think I'm Richard.
32:51Give me another plate there, yeah?
32:55Hey, what's going on with your mother, by the way?
32:57What was...
32:58What was all that about?
33:00You know, honestly, wow.
33:03I think it was about you.
33:05Me?
33:06Mm-hmm.
33:07What did I do this time?
33:09Well, don't take this the wrong way, but...
33:12I think she really loves you.
33:17Huh?
33:19Yum.
33:22Two dime-sized punchers on the upper torso.
33:27Perfectly round.
33:28Yeah.
33:29Well, that's not what you'd expect from shrapnel or space junk.
33:33Or anything natural.
33:35Yeah.
33:37Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
33:42Moving to the second body.
33:45One puncher wound, upper torso.
33:50One on the leg.
33:53Perfectly round.
33:54Dime-sized.
33:56So what are you thinking, Dr. Scarpetta?
33:59Bullet holes. I'm thinking bullet holes.
34:02I'll need to do an ultrasound.
34:03Do you have the equipment here?
34:05Uh, Tron?
34:08Uh, Tron?
34:12We're watching footage of a Russian spacecraft landing in Kazakhstan.
34:20The Russians are rescuing our missing astronaut.
34:25Jared Horton is alive.
34:28The bodies of the two astronauts will be transported to ACMI offices in Virginia where I'm going to conduct the
34:34autopsies.
34:35So I can't definitively say we'll kill them at this time.
34:38Come on, Dr. Scarpetta, you must have a pretty good idea.
34:43What I will say is that the initial ultrasound review indicates that there was a high-speed projectile that penetrated
34:51each of the victims' bodies where it fragmented into birdshot.
34:54This, um, pattern is indicative of glazer safety slugs.
34:59Type of ammunition that when penetrating the body ricochets inside without exiting.
35:07This, of course, is the perfect ammunition to kill someone in space.
35:11We believe that these, uh, glazer safety slugs were brought on board the orbiter for the specific intent to murder.
35:18And if Jared Horton is indeed alive and well in Russia, then, uh, I am inclined to think that Jared
35:24Horton murdered his crewmates, sabotaged the orbiter, and then escaped on the Soyuz.
35:29And when will we know for sure?
35:31Uh, the autopsies will leave us without a doubt.
35:33Uh, we'll extract the fragments, analyze them, and if they are indeed glazer safety slugs, then I would agree with
35:40Agent Wesley that this is murder.
35:43And what does this mean for Gwen Haney's murder?
35:45It means we now know why Gwen Haney was killed.
35:51Jared Horton and Gwen Haney were working together to bring technology and information.
35:59To the Russians.
36:04Thank you, sir.
36:14You want answers, you deserve answers.
36:16Anything you want to know, it's, it's all on the table now.
36:20You knew Matt Peterson had nothing to do with Gwen Haney's death and you said nothing to me.
36:24I asked you and you lied to me.
36:26That was a choice, Ben.
36:27All I knew was that Gwen was likely a spy, that's all I knew.
36:31So you knew there were many more suspects more likely to have done this than Matt Peterson.
36:34Yeah, I couldn't share that.
36:36Oh, this is a marriage.
36:37It was work, for God's sakes. I swore an oath, Kate.
36:40It's not black and white.
36:41I understand government secrets, but you could have hinted at something.
36:44You do.
36:45You know exactly what I mean.
36:46You could have hinted at something.
36:47What is your obsession with this guy, anyway?
36:50This case.
36:51The Peterson case was solved years ago.
36:53It was my first big case.
36:55And he didn't kill his wife.
36:56We know that.
36:57So what is it that's making you so crazy?
37:00Don't change the subject.
37:01You knew.
37:03You knew you should have said something to me.
37:06Then would you have kept it to yourself?
37:08You wouldn't have shared it with Pete.
37:10Oh, come on.
37:10Is there anything you don't share with Pete?
37:12So that's what this is about?
37:13You're jealous of Pete?
37:14That is ridiculous.
37:15Yeah, I think you are.
37:16Should I be jealous of Pete?
37:25Are you sleeping with her?
37:28Well...
37:28Well...
37:29Are you sleeping with that girl?
37:30Oh, my...
37:31Come on.
37:32Just say it.
37:32Same.
37:33Same.
37:34I've never seen this color on you.
37:36It's happened before.
37:37Why wouldn't it happen again?
37:38Oh, come on.
37:38It's different.
37:39No.
37:39You're married.
37:40I was young.
37:41What's different about it?
37:42My whole life was different.
37:43Everything was different.
37:46Do you regret it?
37:48That's not the point.
37:49Come on.
37:49Answer the question.
37:50Do you regret?
37:51No, I don't regret it.
37:52Do you regret leaving your wife and kids for me?
37:54Hey, what are you doing?
37:55What are you doing?
37:56Well, now, so many years later,
37:57and you see what this really is, huh?
37:58Please, stop it.
37:59Stop it.
37:59Well, it would make sense.
38:00I mean, you're living here with my crazy family,
38:02and it's sort of...
38:04Just say it.
38:06Is that what you really feel?
38:07I can take it.
38:08Just say it, Benton.
38:10Say what you fucking feel for once.
38:12Say it.
38:13Just say it.
38:14Tell me the truth.
38:15Okay, listen.
38:16You fucking once.
38:17I agree with your sister.
38:18I think she's right.
38:19I think you have a codependent connection to your niece.
38:22I saw it when she was 11, and I still see it,
38:24and I think Lucy would be better off away from you.
38:26Away from all of us.
38:28Just free.
38:29Free to make her own choices,
38:30free to fail on her own,
38:32and free to...
38:33I'm the one that took her...
38:33Free to learn how to pick herself back up again.
38:36Is that what you want?
38:37Oh, fuck you, Kay.
38:38Fuck you.
38:39You asked me to say it, I said it.
38:40I don't want you sleeping in the house tonight.
38:41I don't want you sleeping in the house tonight.
38:42Well, I don't give a shit what you want!
38:49It is my house, Kay.
38:51And I am not going anywhere.
38:53I think there's something deeply emotionally wrong with you.
38:56What did you say?
38:59You know what I said.
39:01And you know it's true.
39:14I'm appearing.
39:16It was the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life.
39:20Seriously.
39:21It is...
39:21Come on.
39:22...way better than anything my shit-sister made for me.
39:25Listen to me.
39:26I am sorry I screwed up that lunch yesterday, babe.
39:29No, that was a grade-A gesture,
39:31and I blew it.
39:33But I'm gonna make it up to you.
39:35I'm gonna make it up to you, like, tenfold.
39:39Okay?
39:41That's so nice.
40:08Okay, way too early for FaceTime.
40:11Well, you look great, so...
40:14And you texted me.
40:16Okay, that's a good point.
40:17Mm-hmm.
40:19Actually, I was just a little worried about you.
40:24And Pete.
40:25Oh, Pete's fine.
40:27I mean, he made omelets.
40:30And I'm just...
40:31And I'm just...
40:33Dealing with Mom.
40:35How are you?
40:38You know, just...
40:40Waking up to face the day.
40:43And your first thought was of me?
40:49Busted.
40:53So what was that like, huh?
40:55I mean, talking to Janet on that thing, I always thought you thought it was creepy.
41:01No, it was...
41:01It was...
41:02It was...
41:02It was a little weird.
41:03But, you know, I'm...
41:05I'm...
41:06A little lonely.
41:07And I was bored.
41:08And so I went in.
41:09And you know what?
41:10It was fine.
41:11We...
41:11We just...
41:12Started talking.
41:14And...
41:14And she asked me about my books.
41:16Which was really sweet.
41:20And, uh...
41:21You know, I realized I missed her.
41:23Yeah.
41:24And I felt bad that I hadn't gotten to know her better, really.
41:29And then I just thought about Lucy.
41:31No, it's...
41:32Hey, come on.
41:33Hey, listen to me.
41:34Listen to me.
41:35This...
41:36This is why I love you.
41:39This is why I love you.
41:41My sweet man.
41:43Oh.
41:43Hi, baby.
41:44Hi.
41:46I'm gonna go in.
41:47Are you...
41:48Yeah, here we go.
41:50Nope.
41:51Nope.
41:51I'm not going to go close.
41:53But no cigar.
41:56Oh, God.
41:57I was hoping this batshit omelet tastes better than it looks.
42:00It's delicious.
42:00Guys, it's just an omelet.
42:02It's not just an omelet.
42:03He puts cream cheese and bacon.
42:06You're up.
42:07Why?
42:08Oh, hi.
42:08No, we...
42:09We haven't gone to bed.
42:11Oh.
42:12What's that smell?
42:13It's an omelet.
42:14Pete made it.
42:15Where you been, Doc?
42:16Um, I just...
42:17I need two hours, so...
42:19I'll fill you in later.
42:21Can't wait.
42:21No, not you.
42:22You know what?
42:23I'll be right back.
42:23Hey, Doc.
42:24Hold on.
42:25Listen.
42:27Uh...
42:28Look, I got to the...
42:29I got to the bottom of the whole Peterson part of this thing.
42:32Yeah, it turns out that he did know Gwen.
42:34But, you know, in his crazy way, he had more to gain from her being alive at that point is,
42:40he didn't do it.
42:43So, you know, we're good on that front, right?
42:50Yeah.
42:52Okay.
42:52Yeah.
42:53Thanks, Pete.
42:54Yeah.
42:54Go get those two on ours.
42:58Bye, Doc.
43:01Night.
43:01Good night.
43:38Good night.
43:45Good night.
43:59Bye.
44:06Good night.
45:06I don't know.
45:31I don't know.
46:10I don't know.
46:34Did you have fun tonight?
46:36Yeah, I really did.
46:39It was so nice to spend time with you.
46:44Good night, Lise.
46:46Night, Aunt Kay.
46:48I saw your friend, the FBI guy, at the movies.
46:53You did?
46:57You didn't say anything?
46:59I didn't know he was married.
47:02Did you?
47:07Uh, yeah.
47:08Yeah, I did.
47:13Um...
47:16But thank you for telling me.
47:33Life's complicated.
47:36But you know that already, don't you?
47:39Yes.
47:40Everything about my life has been complicated.
47:42I'm used to it.
47:49Okay.
47:52Good night.
47:54Sleep well, sweetie.
47:56Night.
48:07Good night.
48:20Lucy.
48:21Good night.
48:22Good night.
48:23Good night.
48:24Good night.
48:26This is a comenzenostat.
48:48Oh, my God.
48:56Oh, my God.

49:24Hannah?
