00:00These type of rescue missions are fraught with the potential for disaster.
00:05And in this particular case, the United States was able to pull it off.
00:10For all the times that we've attempted to do this in the past, particularly in Vietnam, success rates are usually
00:18very, very low.
00:19Well, it is extraordinarily complex.
00:22Even though the United States essentially has control of the airspace,
00:27you've got the Iranian military roaming around the ground looking for this gentleman.
00:33You also have some members of the Iranian civilian population looking for him.
00:39He's got capabilities to communicate with the air crews that are looking for them.
00:44But at the same time, all it takes is for one person to spot him.
00:49And for some reason, he was able to stay hidden.
00:52And it's a very, very tough situation to find yourself in where, you know, one minute you're in the safe
00:58confines of an aircraft, you're an expert flying.
01:02And the next thing you know, you've been hit.
01:04You're parachuting out.
01:05You get that shock to your system.
01:07You land.
01:08And the first thing that hopefully is going to kick in is your training and the ability to maintain a
01:15degree of mental stability.
01:18You cannot panic under any circumstances.
01:21It's an extraordinary difficult situation for anybody to find themselves in.
01:26But I think it's a testament to his training.
01:29It's an accepted fact that you are going to lose aircraft.
01:33You're going to lose.
01:34You're going to have casualties whenever you engage in combat operations.
01:38I think it's going to be a morale boost.
01:40But then again, those military operations are going to be ongoing.
01:44So we may find disappointment right around the corner in terms of casualties or more aircraft being shot down.
